When Stella Hunt returns to the abandoned orphanage where she was raised for one last goodbye, she finds herself in the middle of a pouring rainstorm with a broken-down car and no gas. Homeless, with no job and no money, Stella has come for one final look at the only home she’s ever known before the beautiful old place is torn down to make way for progress.
Grieving the loss of one of the nuns who raised her here, as well as the impending destruction of the orphanage, Stella’s life takes an unexpected turn. As she explores a small closet, she suddenly finds herself thrown back in time to 1878—when the glorious old orphanage was the grandiose home of Trent Leighton, the owner of Leighton Ranch.
When Stella opens her eyes, she’s met with the none-too-friendly greeting of Mr. Leighton—a man who does not believe in nonsense like time travel. He’s certain she’s making up this wild tale—but why? Stella wants only to return to her own time, over 140 years in the future. But how can she convince Trent Leighton of that?
A jealous neighbor sets out to cause Stella and Trent trouble, but it’s the article in a newspaper from the future that lets Stella know what she has to do to make everything work out right to save the orphanage. Falling in love with a man from another time could be devastating—but if she wants to keep her heart from shattering, there might be no return back to STELLA’S TIME…
An enjoyable story even if the cover looks “too modern”. One bugbear was that one of the character’s names kept changing between “Spunky” and “Stumpy” from about halfway through to the end. This could have been picked up by a proofreader.
Lots of suspense, action and a very good plot! Characters were well developed. I highly recommend it. I loved how the families interacted with each other. Laura is a devious one!
The story is ok. I liked it. It's clean and sweet. But the dates are off. If Stella is 20 when she goes back from 2020 she'd never be interested in a 14 year old boy. Nor do I think even in 1874 could an 10 year old inherit. If the woman who found and raised Trent was in Atlanta when it burned that was Nov 1864. She then had to get to Texas as a Mail order bride so she likely got there in or around 1865. So if Trent is found as a baby at the earliest he's born in 1864. Making him 14 in 1878 when Stella arrives. Ew gross!! Plus this book is riddled with typos or odd words. And while most likely won't notice the age thing as most won't know war dates most will notice so many typos. They got worse as the book went on as if the editor got too tired to finish. It's annoying and lazy.
An orphan, raised by nuns, Stella had fallen on difficult circumstances once her loved ones were laid to rest. Desperate for physical and emotional comfort, Stella seeks shelter in the last place she felt secure and accepted...until things got completely upended. Stella awakens to find herself in an old time, in a former culture, but with new friends and a new love. It's an inspirational tale of how God does not make mistakes.
The premise sounded so intriguing . I was so disappointed in the writing. I forced myself to finish it. There were incorrect spellings and incorrect use of words. She never developed the characters and then would explain to you that the two main characters really did love each other. It just didn't click. No reason to read this one.
I know it is fantasy, but I like reading about it, especially when someone goes back in time before electricity, automobiles, etc. Dealing with lack of modern luxuries can be difficult and causes one to appreciate what we do have today! It’s culture shock and I like how the author brought that out in Stella’s character!
This book is one of the best I've read in a long time. It grabbed me from the start and didn't leave me wanting more, not cause it wasn't good but, because it didn't leave any loose ends that you didn't know what happened. Maybe a mistake missed by the proof readers but, easily over looked.
Stella was found as a baby at an orphanage. When she became 20 and on her own she went back to the orphanage to look around. The house started to shake and she landed in 1978. Meeting the man that owned the home that turned into the orphanage. They married and author Agnes Alexander at the end lets them see that the home will be taken care of in the future.
I love time traveling into the past. This has all the makings of a good western(except no Indians. Lol). A romantic ranch owner with a jealous rich girl. I couldn’t put it down
I love western stories, and mixing them with time travel is a big favorite! The old mansion helped bring the parts together also. Churning butter isn't neat as fun as Stella seemed to think, all I remember is the blisters!
A lot of twists and turns to this story. Many different things to keep you reading. I always like time travel stories where the characters get a chance to travel back and forth once in a while. Did not happen here shut still a good story.
An awesome story. It has everything a person could want to read in it. Mystery, drama, adventure, terror and romance. A wonderful time travel story. I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a great time travel book.
From an orphan raised by nuns to a rancher's wife, our heroen Stella lives in 2022 and in the1880s. She finds love and acceptance. She also learns that after everything her beloved home will be restored by their great, great, great, grandson.
Well written but bland time travel story of Stella and Trent. The cover doesn’t represent the feel of the story at all. Stella is a very meek woman and he is not a tough cowboy.
