The last four books in the Dark Days post-apocalyptic series. Kate Crawford's world was shattered when the Collapse came. One moment she was a university professor, and the next she was running for her life from rippers and a group of Dark Angels. She plans on traveling across the state, back to her home town in the mountains, a place she vowed never to return to. But before she can even get out of the city, she's trapped on the roof of a building with a possible madman as thousands of rippers overrun the streets below. After escaping the city, Kate rescues a small girl, and then meets Max and Petra. The four of them stay together, deciding to travel to Kate's home town, a place she feels might be safe from both the rippers and the Dark Angels. But there are dangers waiting for them there, dangers they can't even imagine.Ray and the others he's with work their way south, eventually crossing paths with Kate and the ones she's with. They band together to make one last stand against the Dragon and his Dark Angels, but Ray still has plans to find a place called Avalon, an underground bunker run by the CDC, a place he believes may have a cure for the Ripper Plague, or at least the answers he was promised.
This is a collection of the last four books in an eight book post-apocalyptic series. The earlier four books are collected in another volume. I don't appear to have liked the series as much as others. I enjoyed many of the characters. I thought the stories meandered a bit. My main problem with the books is the author tends to over explain things. He either over describes activities that should take a word or two, or he will describe a scene and soon after, describe it again. I believe his eight books could have been cut down to four better books with some good editing. Still, I read them all. I thought the ending was abrupt compared to the rest of the books.
This book series is the best I've read in a long time. I have Been obsessed with the characters, their stories and their lives. I don't usually read apocalyptic stories because they make me worry. This one has hope. The people never give up. It makes me wonder how we would do if faced with similar circumstances. I have an emergency bag ready to go but I don't think I could outrun ripper. Maybe you can. Happy Reading!!
Just finished this collection and have to say it didn’t disappoint, if you liked Stephen King’s “The Stand” you’ll like these (I think) no shortage of action, strong characters and a good story to boot!
