This book features Shannon Storm from the "Storm For All Seasons" series. Fall Fury is also Book 2 of that series. Shannon Storm is the feisty, independent director of Public Relations for her family-run hotel, The Rising Storm. She's less than thrilled at the arrival of Max Devlin, hotshot PR guru from Boston, but has no choice other than work with him on the new casino venture. Like the magical elements of fall that she possesses, Shannon's emotions run hot and cold where Max is concerned. She guards her heart under leaves of indifference, but beneath she's boiling with need for what only Max can give her. Max Devlin is on more than just a PR mission on his trek to New Orleans. Not only is he there to work on the casino project, but he's setting down roots in Louisiana. And the first step is to find a mate. The trouble is, Max harbors a secret that he's going to have to very carefully reveal to the woman he's chosen. That woman is the cool on the surface, hot within Shannon Storm. He wonders if Shannon's feelings are powerful enough to accept who-and what-he is. By the light of a full New Orleans moon, their magic will merge, and two people with secrets to hide must learn to trust in their love before their destinies can unfold.

Shannon Storm has a chip on her shoulder about the fact that her family brought in another PR expert to improve her own plan. And Max Devlin is arrogant enough to make that chip even bigger. What she doesn't know is that Max is a werewolf, setting up his family's interests in New Orleans and that Shannon is his intended mate. He wants her and although she is physically attracted to him, she resists his commanding attitude and his insistence that he be in charge...that she submit to the alpha. Max is at a loss for how to get Shannon to admit that she belongs to him. He'll have to make a grand gesture if he's to finally win her.

Notice I didn't say much about love here. Yeah, that's because i didn't feel it at all. Given Shannon's personality and the huge iceberg she's encased herself in, I find it really hard to believe that Max could love her. She doesn't exactly share much about herself with him. And he's driven by the feeling that she's his mate, so it isn't even love that has him going back to her over and over, so much as its the knowledge that she'd be the perfect alpha female. And honestly, it's not like he was really all that willing to accept her for who she was (considering he keeps trying to find a way to get her to accept obedience). It wasn't until the very end there that he realized what he had to do and that gesture at least showed growth for Max and made him a better character, even if he was somewhat infuriating in his arrogance throughout the story. Shannon though was a bit too convincing in her "leave-me-alone" arguments and I really started to believe that she was NOT interested in a relationship and it bugged me that Max (and her family) refused to listen and even went so far as to mate with her without telling her. Don't get me wrong, she wasn't faultless here at all...she gave mixed messages, she was outright mean to Max and her attitude was pretty annoying. So not my favorite story from this author, but I won't give up on the series yet.

Max and Shannon

This is book 2 for both the Storms and the Devlins, bringing their families together. Max knows Shannon is his fated mate even before they actually meet, but she resists anything serious with him. They finally realize they are meant to be because of love, finding their HEA.

A new wolf is born

Shannon has been hurt before. Can she left go of the past? Can she open her heart again? Max was hired to help with PR and he has his sites set on Shannon. Can he do it? I really like paranormal aspect. Well written.

I'm a fan of werewolf stories and of alpha male heroes who are utterly focused on their heroines. Happily, this book falls into both of those categories. At the beginning of the book, we discover that Max has begun to sort of long for a mate and after merely seeing a picture of Shannon, he's positive that she's the one. From that point on, as they work together and butt heads, he acknowledges the obstacles in their path, but he never loses his focus and he never gives up on her.

From the start of their journey to an HEA, the chemistry between them is intense and palpable and culminates in a few passionate, lengthy, and very explicit sex scenes. As mentioned by other reviewers, there aren't necessarily as many of those in this book as there are in other works by Jaci Burton, but in this case, it's quality over quantity. Jaci Burton really knows how to write those kinds of scenes to ramp up the tension and the heat without going overboard into cringe-worthy, eye-rolling territory.

The progress of the relationship is fraught with issues, but as is to be expected, the end of the journey yields a great emotional payoff.

With all of the high-points of a great alpha hero, super hot love scenes, and a good HEA aside, we come to the reason why I gave this one 3 stars. That reason, in a word, is Shannon. I feel like a lot of writers have responded to the glut of simpering, spineless heroines of the past by going pretty far in the other direction: super-assertive, fierce, independent, strong women, and I think that's a great thing and I much prefer those kinds of characters to their counterparts in, say, the 80s. However, I do think there's a kind of danger in going too far in that direction, to the point where the heroine is pretty much an attitude with legs, and for most of this story, Shannon fell into that category for me.

She fought Max at every. single. turn. Throughout the book, she has a pretty big chip on her shoulder, even going so far as to say some truly cruel things to Max. Now, the reader is made aware that she lashes out out of fear and because, as someone who feels the need to be dominant in every aspect of her life, she has a difficult time giving up control to anyone. She basically feels like Max wants to take over her life - and, to be fair, there are times he does get a bit ahead of himself and that understandably freaks her out - and that, coupled with her assumption that he doesn't love her, results in her behavior. I understand those issues and there is definitely some basis for them, but there came a point where her attitude was just too much for me and I really wondered why and how Max remained so totally committed to being with her. I mean, had he somehow gotten a glimpse of her personality instead of seeing her face in a photo, I have to think that he would have turned tail (pardon the quasi-pun) and run in the opposite direction since she puts him through so much and makes every single bit of forward progress in their relationship like pulling teeth.

So, I hit my saturation point with her attitude relatively early on which resulted in the rating that I gave this book. I wish that that could have worked out differently because I've loved so many of Jaci Burton's books in the past. This isn't a bad book at all, and Max is wonderful - I'd recommend it just for him. I see that a lot of other readers didn't have an issue with Shannon so the lack of love for her unrelieved attitude is just a personal quirk of mine that could very well not bother those interested in giving this one a read. I'd say to give this a try, because even an instance of a book that may not be Jaci Burton's absolute best is still vastly superior to a lot of other offerings in this genre.

A mildly erotic romance and second in the Devlin Dynasty series as well as in the Storm for All Seasons series. The couple focus is on Max Devlin and Shannon Storm and is set in New Orleans.

My Take
I was more impressed with the short story that began this series, Running Mate (found in the anthology Primal Heat). Still, it's a sweet romance that made me feel rather wrinkly thinking of all that storm water Shannon generates during sex that soaks the bed. I felt much better when Burton later claims that Shannon's storm powers also dry the bed out afterwards...LOL.

You'd think being in PR, Max would have a better idea of how to convince Shannon to move in with him as opposed to simply ordering her especially when they've only had sex a few times! And I so did not buy Max turning Shannon into a wolf shifter simply by getting her to admit she was his...gimme a break!

The Story
Max has been assigned to the South and he is not happy. He would much prefer Boston with its snow and the Red Sox to all this humidity. However, there just might be some compensation. After seeing that photo of Shannon Storm, Max needs to physically meet her and this PR campaign he'll be coordinating with her is a perfect opportunity.

True to her nature, Shannon and Max's first meeting is stormy and it just gets more so as the confrontations escalate for Max has some good suggestions for the campaign Shannon has already created and pushes her to go national if not international. Any strong emotion from Shannon sets off stormy weather with all its rain, wind, lightning, and thunder.

A strong and confident woman, Shannon is unwilling to give up the power to or for anything whether it's her plans for the ad campaign or sex with Max. A power Max fully intends to claim as a very dominant alpha wolf shifter but, for such a good PR man, with such a lousy way of convincing Shannon.

The Characters
Max Devlin is in public relations and is fulfilling the Devlin family/pack's mandate to spread out and multiply.

Shannon Storm runs the advertising for her family's company, The Rising Storm, and she's not happy that her brother has brought someone in from outside. Aidan and Logan are her brothers, Kaitlyn is her sister, and Angelina is her mother. Melissa Cross is a friend of Max's and she's about to marry Aidan Storm.

The Cover and Title
It's an adequately sexy cover but it's not one that resembles the story. It is the spirit of it with the balcony overlooking a huge, nightlit city but it didn't need the leather and laced bathing suit the woman is wearing to tell us that the man with the barbed wire tattoo around his bicep is a dominant.

The title is accurate enough as Shannon keeps telling us that autumn is her season and with a storm power I can see where it could be a Fall Fury.

I could have loved this book if the heroine was less of a bitch and was more willing to give the hero a chance. Of course, he was super alpha-holey which seemed to get worse the more she pushed him away which made her even more shrewish, so it was kind of a circle for awhile. And it was a bit funny to see him at a loss because the female didn't just fall at his feet as expected. But for me she never actually gave him a chance, went into self-protection mode from the moment they met, and I would have like to see them develop some sort of relationship outside of the almost 'fated mates' aspect of the story. In the end, he was able to give her what she needed to trust her giving up control, and the scene was almost sweet.

It surprised me how she was able to turn and I don't remember this from the first book, but it's been awhile since I read it, so maybe that's why. I think he bit her in an earlier bout of sex, but he alluded that she wouldn't turn unless she chose to, which seemed a bit off to me. But then, who am I to say what the rules are about werewolves and shifters??

In Fall Fury the family member to be hit by the Cupid’s arrow is Shannon Storm, the woman responsible for the fall, or of course, the hotel public relations.

Max Devlin, a handsome and canine man is about to move to Louisiana to be part of the public relations plan of the Storm’s family hotel-casino thing permanently .

As always the characters will try very hard to avoid the whole destiny talk - and soon discover that they really were meant to be with one another. And as well - the characters feelings are always hot and cold with many doubts that will surge from the first to the last page of it.

I enjoyed this book better than the first. Maybe because it was longer and there was more character and plot development in it. I liked Shannon but her stubbornness and quick judgement were annoying. I also liked Max. He really cared about Shannon and was going to make their relationship work no matter the cost to himself. Its was a nice read.

I didn't connect with this book as much as I did the first. I enjoyed it, but I thought the heroine's reticence lasted a little too long and her acceptance came a little to easy. I still plan to continue the series and think it may have been more issues with the one character than the rest of the others.

This book didn't flow. The characters didn't have chemistry and the sex scenes seemed to broad side me. They just kind of got thrown in with no real build up. I LOVED Summer Heat but I HATED this one.

Okay. It was great, up until the end. It's your typical stubborn female who refuses to lose control and your typical alpha male who's whipped for his mate. Seriously, after what she said to him, she should have been the one crawling back and apologizing. Not the other way around.

Great second book for both series (storms & devlin). Loved the alpha male trying to convince the magical uptight alpha female to trust and give away her heart. Great HEA. I hope there's some babies in the next few books. Make the family's even bigger.

Oops I actually finished this a day or 2 ago & forgot to write my review. This book was GREAT. It not only brought 2 wonderful families together but it brought with it one of my most favorite types of paranormals, Werewolves! Again it was GREAT!
