Amazing debut novel, amazing premise and boy do I want more.
Katherine has magical powers in a world where magic users are reviled and burned at the stake. She has been a prisoner of her uncle’s ambitions for power and a pawn in his game for the throne. Escaping his mechanizations and turning her into a genie, Katherine runs to a neighborhood kingdom where she acts as a servant to her cousin (Princess Victoria) in a competition to become a royal’s bride.
Katherine spunk catches the seconds sons, Bregovi’s eye. He has her entered into the competition as the commoner’s entry to become his bride.
With the threat of her sorcery abilities being uncovered, Katherine is walking a tight rope. She’s trying to stay under the radar but can she contain her magic and keep her attraction for Bregovi at bay?
Snow balances funny and spunk with gruesome nightmares, evil sorcery, joisting and romance.

I received this book from Netgalley for my honest review.
I applaud Ms. Snow for her debut! It was really a fun book to read!
I couldn’t avoid imagining the princesses as Pocket Princesses! LOL
So we have our heroine, Kate, who runs away from her evil uncle who wants to cede and bind her powers to another sorcerer: Sylvan. So she dashes in the head Sylvan and runs away!
Sylvan, who we should see as a villain, seems not at all villain to me… just a little bit…slutty… Shall we say that there’s more to him than appear? LOL
So, Kate runs to her cousin, Princess Victoria and ask her to hide her. Thus Kate becomes Hildegard, Victoria’s maid.
Since this is a fairy tale, we have also the king of the neighboring kingdom who organized a competition where the winners will marry his second son, Bregovi, our hero, and his daughter, Rachel.
All the eligible princes, princesses, nobles and an occasional plebeian are invited to compete! Women with womanly art, such as music, literature, while men with manly arts such as joust, archery… There’re also dancing and banquets!
There’re lots and lots of fun situations, bloody nightmares, jousting feats, sneaking in the dark, clever banter, stolen kisses, more than kisses (steamy much!!!), duels, magical powers, evil sorcerers, kidnappings, spells… there’re everything you could ask for in fairy tale!
And obviously, because what fairy tale would this be without the Prince Charming getting the Princess in Hiding and… they’ve lived happily ever after…
The story flows as a combination of many, many fairy tales I’ve read when I was little and Ms. Snow’s mastery is in combining them all seamlessly in one whole story!
I hope Ms. Snow will write Sylvan’s story… I want to know how she will redeem him and his slutty ways….

Reading about the synopsis of this book, I was so intruiged...
Gifts? What gifts?
Prince? What prince?
I wanted to read it and I enjoyed the elements of magic and the plot. Kate was running for her life and I really wanted to know if she could succed escaping her evil uncle and Sylva...
But for me, the romance of Prince Bregovi and Kate slow a bit the pace and some chapters were not so much nesessary.
But after I finished it, I was left with a feeling of happiness and satisfaction so this read will get three stars.

Let me just start by saying that Bregovi was incredibly difficult for my mind to think it right, it's like I was trying to pronounce it in my head, and the only thing I managed to say every time was Begrovi. So, for the sake of my sanity, I'll just call the guy Begrovi throughout this whole thing.
Now, if I had to say how I felt about Forbidden, I'm not pretty sure what I would say, and I realized it was because, to me, this felt like two books in one. Let's just say that about the first 70% was book one and the other 30% was book two. And, in the first book, I could not stand Begrovi.
But what kept me interested and wanting to read more was Kate. She is amazing, her past is really sad and I felt so bad for her. She's had to put up with so much, and pretty much being a slave, which is what she really was all those years. And now that she's run away (once again), she struggles to stay hidden and get as little attention as possible, which proves to be a lot of work.
Begrovi was very selfish and didn't think about her feelings. He just wanted his new shiny toy, and he had to have it no matter what, even if he wouldn't get to keep it in the end.
I thought it was so wrong to see him insist and encouraging Kate, so she would fall in love with him before he had to choose his actual bride... For real? You think Kate's just a toy to entertain yourself with for now? How nice of you to not think about her feelings and wanting to leave her heartbroken. How kind.
He is a rake, it's very obvious he loves seducing women, and there was actually a point in the story where he was all "my affection for Kate be damned" and really wanted another woman, even though she was mean and annoying (and also after he said he liked Kate!). Wow, what a shallow guy. And he loves to play the victim as well, he always does everything right (according to him), and can't understand why Kate would be mad at him whenever he did something wrong.
I wanted to punch him in the face.
On the other hand, Begrovi's sister's love interest was adorable! Rachel had been writing to a man, Sebastian, for a while, and he actually showed the same interest as her, but the king surprised her and had the same tournament organized for both his children, at the same time, which meant that Rachel had many guys fighting for her hand, and the one who won the biggest amount of games, would become her husband. Sebastian was so cute, he was so nervous about losing her that he kept messing up all the time, and he was so sweet to her, and respected her and said such nice things... Begrovi's complete opposite, as you can easily tell.
But you see, I did mention that I couldn't stand Begrovi in what I call the first book, but I did like him a lot in book two! I don't know what happened, but suddenly he was so sweet and not selfish at all. It's like he had an epiphany or something, because I can't understand how that happened.
And not only that! But this second book included so much action and fantasy, it was amazing! Kate's powers were very interesting and I kept wanting to know more. And we also meet other people who have different powers as well, and they're very cool! It was a real shame that we only get to see most of this at the very end. Seriously, if the whole thing had been like that, I would've loved this.

It's been quite a while since I've read a book in one sitting. I just couldn't bring myself to put it down!
Perhaps one of the best romances I've read in quite a while. I'll admit the premise of the book - Gifts and far-off kingdoms and mischievous princes - absolutely drew me in. I will say this: if you are looking for a rich, well-developed fantasy with hints of romance, this one is not for you. But if you are looking for delicious romantic tension with all the feels and a hint of fantasy, then yes. Yes this book.
I am a sucker for character-driven novels, and even more so for a cast of characters that I truly enjoy. And I adored the main characters Kate and Bregovi - Kate because I could absolutely relate to her and Bregovi because he most certainly checked off quite a few of the book-boyfriend requirements. I even enjoyed the secondary characters, though I wish there had been more explanation of the villains and their aims - but I think that goes hand-in-hand with wanting more world-building in general.
If you're looking for a story to sweep you off your feet for a few hours, I'd definitely recommend this one!

A fantastical, and magical romance! Full of Magik, spontaneity, quick wit and humor.
Who knew genies do exists, and in the form of an alluring young woman??
What’s the problem you say? Well imagine being robbed of your life or being used solely for the purpose of somebody else's gain.
Well lady Katherine Durant is exactly that. A Genie in the making. She has magik that she will bind so she won't be discovered and traced by her awful uncle, and flees for the ninth time in hopes of escaping her new found fate! She will belong to a master!!! A master that can turn invisible, that can make her do anything he wants. But the ceremony while binding isn’t yet complete.
Fleeing is her only hope, but to where? So she turned to a cousin for help, and ends up becoming her cousin's hand maid. As Kate, a maiden full of spunk, quick wit, and snarky humor.
“Would you like to know why as well, Kate?” “ Of course,” she said with batting eyelashes and a honey-sweet tone. “Please pontificate.”
Their set their course to the competition for the hand of the prince!!
And well, here we find another lovely character!!! Bregovi!!!
A complete jokester with a heart of gold. The bandit prince, who has to marry accordingly, and was entered by his father in a bid for his hand. Turns out all he ever needed was the love, humor and intelligence in a maiden that was not supposed to love him back.
Falling in love has never been this fun, or this perilous. And can Kate keep the love of her life after he knows the truth?
Romance flows from the pages!! I read it in almost one sitting!
Katrina Snow will transport you to a time full of wonder, and magic, balls, and beautiful dresses. Definitely a book to read, and there is a little teaser at the end hinting that there will be more to come. If there are, I will definitely read them!
It very well written an excellent debut book!

"Forbidden" is a historical fantasy romance. I can only say: another great read for a debut author. The heroine Kate is an engaging protagonist. I’m a sucker for characters who have extraordinary powers and choose to use them only for good, especially when doing the opposite is so tempting. Think Luke Skywalker, King Edmund and Harry Potter all rolled together, written as a female character, and dressed in a beautiful lavender gown. What’s not to love? I’m looking forward to the next installment. Thank you for a fun read!

Forbidden by Katrina Snow was a little bit of a pleasant surprise for me. After finding it on NetGalley I decided to go for it because I really liked the premise. Initially I was a little turned off because the opening dialogue is a bit strange and usually if I am not in love with a book within the first few chapters it isn’t going to go well. Also, there is something about the cover that just doesn’t do the book justice. I am super glad that I powered through the first few chapters because I really dug the rest of the book.
Forbidden is the story if Lady Katherine Durant, Kate for short, a very powerful and very naive sorceress that is being completely manipulated by her family. With her parents gone, her dark and power obsessed uncle is dead set on selling her to another dark sorcerer to further his own power. As part of a hidden and hated race, Kate decides to run away from both her uncle and the man she is promised to in an effort to thwart both of their attempts at using her against their enemies. While attempting to hide in plain sight, Kate must secretly use magic to bind her powers nightly to prevent being discovered. Not fully understanding the gravity of the situation or exactly how powerful a pawn she is in her uncles game, Kate tries to balance blending in and surviving the ever-increasing attention she is receiving from the one person who shines brighter than the rest: the Prince.
There is a nice balance between the fight for Kate to escape, her relationship with the prince and her own self discovery. Not completely overpowered by the elements of love, there is plenty of action to keep the reader’s attention. The characters are well written and have depth. The love connection between Kate and Bregovi is sweet, develops slowly and isn’t annoying at all. The sexual chemistry is tasteful but still intriguing. The world building is descriptive and helps the reader understand a lot about where they live and why each group of people’s differences are so significant.
This is a great read, I would recommend it and will be reading it again in the future I am sure.

I'm glad I decided to give FORBIDDEN a chance when I saw it on NetGalley, I had no issue enjoying both the world and the characters in this story.
I liked Kate right away. She was brave, determined and easy to connect with. She finds herself in some hard positions, but manages to keep herself on track with her head up. Kate and Bregovi are so great together. You can see the connection between them growing at every turn of the page. There was just something about them together that kept me reading to find out what would happen between them next. I couldn't imagine one without the other so when they were apart all I wanted was to see them back together. Rachel and Sebastian were really cute together too. We don't see their whole romance like we do Kate and Bregovi, but it was a sweet side story.
The story as a whole has a great flow and pace. The world isn't super complex, but it's really easy to picture a scene. I do wish that some of the myth's that were introduced in FORBIDDEN were explored more than they were.
I have no clue if there will be more books in this world and it seems like the author wrapped up the Kate and Bregovi storyline in FORBIDDEN, but I would love to read more.

I couldn't imagine one without the other so when they were apart all I wanted was to see them back together. Rachel and Sebastian were really cute together too. We don't see their whole romance like we do Kate and Bregovi, but it was a sweet side story.
The story as a whole has a great flow and pace. The world isn't super complex, but it's really easy to picture a scene. I do wish that some of the myth's that were introduced in FORBIDDEN were explored more than they were.
I have no clue if there will be more books in this world and it seems like the author wrapped up the Kate and Bregovi storyline in FORBIDDEN, but I would love to read more.

Forbidden was such a pleasant surprise! I loved this book from start to finish. Forbidden flowed seamlessly from start to finish. With a balanced mixture of action,romance,suspense and all the lovely bits of magic and sorcery thrown in the mix. I cannot wait until the next installment in this wonderful series.

Having recently devoured Forbidden, I have no qualms in saying that this book is one of the best I’ve read all year, easily keeping me up until all hours of the morning—something that doesn’t happen very often. Considering I was unsure what to expect heading into the story, Snow absolutely blew me away and sucked me in with Kate and Bregovi’s sensational chemistry and sharp, witty banter. Their’s was some of the best chemistry I have read in a novel in a long time, if ever and I ate up every shared moment, touch, kiss and sentence shared between them.
Katrina Snow has simply outdone herself with the chemistry and connection she has written into the story between Kate and Bregovi. This alone could have easily made me adore the story with so much wit and sizzle written into their developing relationship. I loved the push and pull, the determination Bregovi had to be with Kate—it made me swoon. Yet, at its base Forbidden also features a very vivid storyline that weaves all the best elements of fantasy combined. Magic, sorcery, romance, humour, friendship, family…everything blends together with fire, flair and sensational dialogue that is pretty much perfect.
Even the characters I couldn’t fault, especially the leads. Kate was a sensational heroine to follow; strong willed, intelligent and vocal—refusing to bend for anyone. She had fire inside her and personality and I loved that Snow wrote her so likable. You were one hundred percent behind Kate all the way. Bregovi was charming and dashing, and really, really sexy. He was cheeky and adventurous and adored his sister Rachel too, something that won points with me.
Forbidden was well written; Katrina Snow’s writing painting a lovely fantasy world that unfolds through alternating POV’s between Kate and Bregovi and a few minor characters too. I loved the cast of characters Snow littered Forbidden with. Bregovi’s sister Rachel was a true sweetheart, as was her love interest who was simply perfect for her. Bregovi’s friend Wolfe intrigues me with his cheeky personality, as does Kate’s cousin Victoria who seemed to go back and forth between helpful and kind, and well….not.
I’m highly intrigued by the world of sorcery and genies Snow has created. Underneath Kate’s plight, there seems to be another sub-story brewing that makes me excited for possibilities with future books and the chance to follow other characters in future tales, some of which I’ve mentioned.

Review title: Love this little gem absolutely.
This is my first review written in English, therefore you may forgive me for any mistakes made in my review. You can keep any you find here as a welcome present to my first English review.
What's the story about?
Lady Katherine Durant - Kate in short - is a sorceress, her uncle wants to give to his right-hand man as a genie. Not wanting to be a genie, Kate flees from her home right into the arms of a bandit. Not knowing he is Prince Edmund from kingdom Florian, she exchanges a kiss with him. Prince Edmund is about to select his bride: the winner of a fierce contest with several challenges will be his princess. Cannot forgetting Kate's kiss, he manages to lure her into taking part in the battle for his heart. So Kate not only fleeing from her uncle, but also has to deal with the handsome prince and the envious contestants, one of them she has to help to win the prince's heart.
What do I think about this story?
I haven't expected this to be such a wonderful, lovely and fantastic story. Having read a not small amount of romantic love stories set in the highlands or London Regency area, I haven't encountered such a love story embedded in the epic fantasy genre yet. This is the first one and I am completely satisfied with the result. The author managed to tell such a romantic, heart-wrenching and beautiful love story which left me speechless after finishing the book. The mix of an exciting plot, passionate romance and character development, different point of views got me on a hell of a ride like on a rollercoaster of joy and left me after a well written happy-ending with the feeling craving for more.
Kate and Edmund are two very fascinating and surprising individuals. I fell in love with both from the first page I met them. Kate bewitched me with her strength, her wit, her smartness and the incredible skills in different subjects. Edmund is a sweet and handsome adventurer who likes to seduce Kate to fall in love with him. Instead, he fell for her first, as she managed to impress him with her fighting and kissing skills at their first encounter. Reading about his sweet moves to conquer her makes me melt like ice-cream in the sun.
The contest reminds me a bit of the "Selection"-triology by Kiera Cass, but other than that the story concept is refreshing and surprising.
I like the author's writing style really much, I adore her wit and her poetic wording choices. Below are some quotes from the book:

This book was perfect in any matter: writing style, the light atmosphere, the fantastic elements, the romantic love story and the nice plot. This story is so charming, it held me captured from the first to the last page - and I didn't regret it. I am so looking forward to the next book "Fractured" by Katrina Snow, the continuation of this fantasy saga.

Forbidden in 5 words: Fast-paced Happily Ever After
Storyline: I was slightly confused in the very beginning, but a couple of chapters later it all made sense and I was fully immersed and didn't want it to ever end.
Characters: My favorite was of course Katherine. I instantly connected with her. She's relatable, realistic and despite all of her hardships she doesn't let herself become jaded. I did feel bad for her though, she wants happiness so badly but doesn't think it's attainable with her situation.
The Romance: I just love a forbidden romance! Not only were there plenty of steamy moments between Katherine & Bregovi but also plenty of humorous ones that had me laughing out loud.
Comparable to: Julia Quinn's The Bridgertons. (One of my favorite romance series EVER!)
All-In-All: A wonderful, renaissance era fairy-tale romance with plenty of action, evil villains, enchanted lands and of course a happily ever after! I cannot wait for the second book in this series titled Fractured!

She was a genie on the run, living under a false name. She was a maiden with no home, no refuge and an unknown future. She was a sorceress hiding what she could do for fear of the burning stake.

This book was once again different to what I've read for a while. This book has romance, fantasy and in a couple of places it can get steamy. I felt sorry for Kate in the beginning as she didn't know what she was actually capable of. When she ran away I might of had a slight fist pump moment and I thought "Go Girl!".
She quickly meets Prince Edmund (disguised as a bandit) and they are all en route to his fathers castle for 2 wedding festivals. A series of tasks and competitions to find a bride for Prince Edmund and a groom for his sister Princess Rachel.
As you can imagine the story line after this becomes quite predictable. Kate falls in love with the Prince, even though she knows she can't have the Prince. The Prince falls in love with Kate, even though he knows he can't marry her.
The middle of the story was slightly dragged out and then it was over all too quick. It was a quick and enjoyable, although predictable, read. You can't help but route for Kate and hope she does get the Prince.
I'll give this book a rating of 3/5, it was enjoyable, but predictable and dragged out and was over all too quick.

This book was a great read full of adventure and romance. The fantasy element of the book was really good and the plot was great. The only thing that was a little bit over the top was the romance; I think the author could have stripped back some of the more physical descriptions and thoughts by both Katherine and Bergovi about how irresistible the other was and focused slightly more on the fantasy element in particular it seemed that Bergovi accepted too quickly that Katherine was a sorceress yet sorcery and magik were supposed to be banned and feared. This is only a slight complaint however and didn't really detract from my enjoyment of the book. I loved the interactions between Bergovi and Katherine especially the scene in which he shows Katherine his library and his pet turtle Galileo. The whole intrigue involved in the festival to win the prize of marriage to the royal siblings was really interesting and added another layer to the plot. I really hope that in the next book in the series, however, that more is explained about the Order Master, Magik and the Zafarians.

What a delightful debut novel!
I would probably give this one 4.5 stars, but that isn't an option, so rounding up.
Cinderella is one of my favorite fairy tales of all time, so I am always looking for good re-imaginings. And this was definitely a good one!
This book was full of action, adventure, romance and the requisite Happy Ending.
It sets up nicely for a sequel without leaving you hanging off the edge of a cliff.
The only things that took away from perfect enjoyment are what I would classify as rookie mistakes. There were a few places where it was unclear who was speaking or being spoken about though I figured it out eventually. Also one particular character's name bugged me. Not that I didn't like the name, I just didn't understand why they kept calling him that instead of his real name. (Trying to avoid spoilers here.)
This book got me out of a week long reading slump and I highly recommend it. I look forward to reading the next installment from Ms. Snow.

When I read the description for this book, I thought I was getting ready to read a romantic fantasy full of adventure and action. Although I did think that the romance was nicely done, that's really all it was. There were hints of expeditions across oceans to far away lands and at the beginning I thought that's where the characters were headed, but the majority of the book took place at the same castle and I was disappointed. The writing was decent and the characters were likeable enough, although somewhat flat at times. There were a few instances of humorous banter that had me chuckling. But overall I thought the story lacked substance. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a feel good type romance and doesn't really mind it if the fantasy aspect doesn't go much deeper than to serve as backdrop.

Fans of Romance and Romantic Fanatsy you will love this debut novel by Katrina Snow. Engaging characters keep you from putting this book down and several woven story lines move seamlessly together to produce a memorable book. Magic, adventure, romance, and suspense all can be found in Forbidden. You will laugh, cry, and even hold your breath at times. Kate and Bregovi are delightful and compelling. The secondary characters will also grab your heart. You will root for them through the the entire story. The world the author created is so enchanting, I wished I could have been at the festival trying to win the hand of some dashing man. I highly recommend this book to lovers of Romance, Fantasy, and Medieval/Renaissance Romance and I can not wait to read more from Ms. Snow.

From their first meeting involving a bartered kiss, Kate and Bregovi are meant to be together—all that stands in their way are an evil Order Master, a heartless man with the gift of invisibility, a father in need of alliances promised by royal unions for his children, and a dozen determined princesses competing for a prince's hand in marriage. Loved Rachel and Sebastian's parallel romance as well. In fact, each character was so beautifully described that this story is a magical gem from start to finish. And, oh my, what a breathtaking finish this story has in a daring escape and then a battle with the most interesting choice of weapons!

I usually don't go for the romance genre because it bores me. This time though, I made a good choice. This first book of Katrina Snow proved to be worth the read mixing magic, romance and adventure in an historical reality. The book is very compelling and it was very difficult to stop reading it.

This is a well-written, fast-paced plot that moves from one dilemma to another...with beautifully written scenes that blend romance and action. It has a storyline that will have readers cheering for the hero and heroine's HEA. This review was originally posted on Books In Brogan

Forcing yourself on someone so heavily isn't romantic to me. Even though I'm sure he'll eventually love her and not just want a roll in the hay it has such a rough beginning as to be cringe.
Also pages of a single kiss scene? I skimmed once I got the point.

A classic romance novel set in a renaissance fairy tale world, complete with princes, ladies, sorcerers and swordfights. Kate is a feisty heroine and Bregovi her dreamy prince charming with a heart of gold. Particularly intriguing was Sylvan, the secondary villain with a sub-plot of his own that promises to take readers somewhere interesting in future installments. Highly recommend for readers who enjoy a bit of steam in their well-developed fantasy world romances.

was a great fun read, I liked the back and forth between kate and bregovi, their introduction was really fun and flirty a very enjoyable read. I'm interested in learning more about Sylvan, I am a sucker for a dark bad character with a softness inside. I want to know more about him and his background and about this portal and seems like world traveling? I think I want a bit more world building on the next one. But overall really fun read!

"Magikally" Wonderful Book!
Katrina Snow does a fabulous job creating a world you believe in and can picture so well you feel like you've visited. Kate and Bergovi's love story captured me, along with the numerous subplots and secondary characters I rooted for as well.
This was a book I read well-into the night because I couldn't put it down. I definitely recommend it!
