Now that peace has been restored in San Francisco, Peyton and Marco are focused on their lives together. As Peyton takes on a leadership position with the Ghost Squad, Marco contemplates moving beyond the precinct into a political career.
However, peace and normalcy are tenuous for a couple always caught in the crosshairs of justice. When Peyton and the Ghost squad are called to Whistler to investigate the mysterious death of a professional skier, they aren’t prepared to contend with a fringe group that believes the suspect is less than human.
As the Ghost Squad confronts the reality that Sasquatch may in fact be real, Marco must decide if he has the calling to lead the City by the Bay into the next decade.

There's just something about this Peyton Brooks mystery. It's tough to put your finger on what sets Yetis in Whistler apart. Is it because we are nearing the end of the series? Is it because Peyton and, by association, Marco have been through so much throughout this 18+ book journey? Have these characters matured? Is it because writing another Peyton Brooks, FBI mystery is like wrapping one's self in an old familiar homemade quilt for author M.L. Hamilton? It's all of the above.
Peyton has a lot on her mind when she arrives in Whistler, BC with the Ghost Squad to investigate the death of an American freeskiing champion. Not the least of which is her possible promotion to head the new Hate Crimes Division. (Do we smell spinoff?) As always each chapter is headed with a titillating literary device; reports from an energetic, ambitious, and slightly annoying reporter ala 'Entertainment Tonight' who is covering the scene to highlight the upcoming Olympic Games. As Peyton becomes embroiled in this seemingly unsolvable crime, it foreshadows her possible absence at home for Christmas. Back in San Francisco, Marco is hard at work running the precinct AND running for Mayor. WHAT?
The murder that enthralls the homicide division back in SF is as stimulating as its Canadian counterpart. As Marco grasps at straws to find a killer, tension and irritation build as Harper and Devan coerce him to follow their straight and narrow for his campaign. When the two arenas collide at a televised Election Town Hall, sparks fly and spines tingle.
Yet, the texture of Yetis in Whistler has a luxe to it. There are deeper motivations at work; a depth of character and a longing that go beyond the glib, beyond the humor, for both hero and antagonist. The action in San Francisco is no longer a sub player to the FBI event. And what lies inside our killers on either side of the border gives us pause to consider what dire straights could compel all of us.
Recording offered its own challenge. The Canadian accent is elusive at best. Our northern neighbors have as many variations of dialect as we do. It is not a simple matter to select one or two substitutions for every character and stick to those. It would be as inaccurate as using the same dialect for characters from Alabama and New York.
When in doubt, turn to YouTube. I discovered Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas of SCTV's Great White North sketches. 'The McKenzie Brothers' - Bob and Doug - offer behavior and tone, as well as dialect. They appeared often on talk shows. This allowed two more versions of Canadian-speak on which to draw-the actors' authentic speech. Moranis and Thomas are a riot and the sketches a charming study in subtlety. If you haven't seen them-take a look.
And if you don't believe me about the equally compelling events in both San Fran and Whistler, take a listen to Hamilton & Hazen: Behind the Mic #6. ML and I spend an entire episode discussing the perfect recipe for a chilling bad guy and then realize we are talking about the 'other' villain!
Yetis in Whistler (Peyton Brooks, FBI #10) was a good read by M.L. Hamilton. It seems that peace has finally been restored in San Francisco. Peyton and Marco are focused on their lives together. Peyton is offered a leadership position with the Ghost Squad, while Marco is contemplating starting a political career. Peyton and the Ghost Squad are called to Whistler to investigate the death of a professional skier. They never thought they would be contending with a fringe group that believes the suspect may be a Sasquatch. I loved listening to Kelley Hazen'snarrations and can't wait to read more by the author.
Another book turned into a garbage pregnancy diary
On top of that the authors writing really suffered during this one, there was a constant mix of past tense third person pov and present tense third person pov which ruined the immersive experience of reading.
Back with Peyton and Marco as they are both working new cases. Peyton is offered a new job as heas of a new squad and is worrying about the pros and cons, the the ghost squad gets sent to the Whistler ski area in Canada to look into the death of an American free skier and an expected Olympian gold medal winner. Witness thing they saw a Yeti over the body from the ski lift to make things interesting. Meanwhile Marco has his own problems, his friends are pushing him to run for Mayor in the upcoming election and he is not sure what he wants to do. All the while he is getting the nursery ready for the coming baby and Peyton is trudging around in freezing weather and deep snow with the baby coming closer to his/her birthday. (Marco and she do not want to know which beforehand). A good read, I like this series.
Brooks and D’Angelo have to be one of my all time favorite couples!
As they are both working on important cases, Peyton and Marco are also trying to decide where they would like to go in their respective careers.
M. L. Hamilton has really hooked me with her Peyton Brooks series. She has so many fantastic characters that I have really grown to know and love.
Kelley Hazen delivers another top notch performance. Honestly, I don’t know how she does it… voicing so many different characters… she really brings these characters to life.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
An MLHamilton tour guide to murder migraines yetis mayhem. When she writes a book about a state or country you will feel as if you have watched the 30 minute travel channel special about that destination. Canada made me want to go see the mountains and breath the fresh air. The characters are witty memorable and have excellent roles. The storylines Of the SFPD and The Ghost Squad keep you turning the pages as the excitement builds. I hate fir the book to end leaving us with so much to look forward to.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and enjoyed it very much. As with all the other books, this book is suspenseful and action pack showing both the bad and good sides of society. Peyton heads to Whistler, BC after and American Olympic hopeful is found murdered by a Sasquatch, while Marco campaigns to be Mayor and investigates a murder of a young nurse. The author has a special talent to create characters and stories that feel real and the narrator brings every story to life. This combination of author and narrator creates pure enjoyment.
I started this series with the very first set of books just after a visit to San Francisco. Of course I bought the set and couldn't put it down till I had read every page. Then the FBI books were next. It was torture waiting for the next book and of course the last book I read had the most exciting ending. If you want to start please start with the first book. The characters are believable and described so well you can just picture them. Peyton certainly has a great support from her friends and family. Looking very forward to the next book in this series.
So glad to be back in Marco's and Peyton's worlds. I wish more time was spent with Jake and Abe and the banter that goes with those two and Marco. Sad to wait another 10-12 months for the next book.
I enjoy the works by this author and eagerly awaited this next book in the Peyton series. Very well written and a well-paced story. The plot and characters are fabulous.
The characters in this series not only become family to each other but to the reader … at least they did for me. Yes, there are murders and mysteries to be solved but it is relationships that just captivated me. I want to be in Peyton’s circle of friends!
It was so nice to have Peyton, Marco and the gang back. These books are so fun. The characters are fantastic and I have to laugh through the whole book. The stories are great and I look forward to the next one.
If you don't read all Peyton Brooks books there is something wrong with you! Seriously! Peyton & Marco are SO, SO special! ML Hamilton is a super-duper writer! Can't wait for Pirates in Las Vegas to come out!
Its never a disappointment to read about these wonderful characters and the storylines are out of this world! I love the twists and turns and most of all, i love the friendships.
Great stories. I hope this isn't the ending for this series. There is still so much more I want to know. This is a great series with great wonderful characters.
