I was born to wealth and privilege, and I hate it. You have no idea what it’s like to be me. My mother and father have planned my life out for me, and now they want me to take part in the family business to run it one day. They also want me to marry Penelope, who I once thought I loved, but now we are more like brother and sister. What I want doesn’t seem to matter to anyone except for the foul-mouthed sexy as shit, Lisa, who gives me a hard time, all the time. She reminds me of a chick I met online six years ago. Yes, I have a crush on my online connection. We may never meet, and I know nothing about her, but she will always have a piece of my heart. I am Lucas Gates, and they call me the prince of fashion. ** I work harder than anyone to get what I want and don’t care what anyone thinks of me. No one tells me what to do or how to do it. I have plans for my future, and I’m not afraid to chase my dreams. I wanted to buy the boutique I work for and rebuild its reputation, but it seems fate has other plans. Mrs. DeBarber, my evil boss, has decided to sell the store to the House of Bijioux, which puts me face to face with the hot wild man who has stolen my heart and killed my dream. I may have to develop a new plan for my future and for my heart, but the prince of fashion will always own a piece of it. I am Lisa Nicole Gates, and I tell it like it is.
Lisa and Lucas have been online friends for years. Lisa dared Lucas to do things that would get him into hot water with his mother. The final dare would be what breaks the camel's back and have Lucas shipped off to Dallas, TX. This time, Lisa will come face-to-face with Lucas, but only one will know who the other person is.
While I like the author's writing, I dislike how she doesn't resolve things on canvas. Like we should have been able to see the outcome of the DeBarber women. We saw their treatment of Lisa, so wrapping upon seeing those women get the seed they sowed would have wrapped things up nicely.
This modern-day retelling of a classic fairytale was a good read; however, the many grammatical errors and mix-up of character names distracted the book's flow. Where the story could have sung out a sweet melody, the errors made it sound like a scratched record. This is my perspective.
This was fun & funny. Lisa seemed more immature than Lucas. I love the supporting characters. Lisa was borderline insufferable. I was almost rooting for Penelope. She acted a fool the whole book. It's interesting how secretive she was with her sister Asia. I acted like a 15 yr old virgin not a young smart ambitious adult.
A hidden jewel. It’s a interesting twist to the Cinderella story. I loved both the main characters and the supporting characters. It’s a clean read that keeps you asking what’s going to happen next.
