Everyone in Blue Falls, Texas, knows that the giant hulk of a man known only as Beast doesn’t speak. He doesn’t show interest or awareness of anyone, really, except for his family and the people closest to them.
So when he approaches me for help on dating of all things, I can’t say no. And when I find myself sucked into his quiet world of secrets and intrigue, (and washboard abs and Captain America-worthy smiles) I can’t stay away.

The only problem is I’m not going to be living in Blue Falls for much longer. I have plans to go back to New York to pursue my own dreams, dreams I had already put aside for someone else.

But if I ever want to be the superhero in my own story, it might mean giving up the one person who made me see that I’m worth the effort. It might mean losing my heart.

i hate the fmc and i had to suffer her pov only which was really bad👎🏽 i also hate the modern culture references, i wouldn't mind them if they were mentioned a couple of times but they just kept coming.
harry potter, dolores umbridge(her inner voice?¿), star wars, chris evans, jensen ackles, stranger things, game of thrones....i remember those but there were many more

also don't get me started on spoiling Buffy😡😡 i survived tiktok edits without spoiling anything and now this book ruined it for me 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

last thing i hate is CAROLINE !!!!!!!!! fmc tries to set her up with him then gets jealous and we see Caroline is actually a bitch because if she wasn't then the fmc couldn't be portrayed as a better person💞💞💞💞

and the worst part is.... he's shy....he blushes easily.... he can't talk(idk why tho)...and he's a virgin....can you see the wasted potential of a 5 stars book 😔😔

Edits have been finalized on Nerdelicious as of last weekend so I was able to push up release date to 10/30/2020!! :D

I had soooo much fun writing this story, and I hope you enjoy reading it. It was a new challenge to write a character who cannot speak, and I really hope I did Beast justice. Fred was a fun POV character for me because I am a HUGE fandom nerd. I cackled to myself quite frequently while writing and coming up with ways to slip in quips to all my favorite shows, movies, and other pop-culture references. I know not everyone is going to be into that part of it, but I hope you enjoy it anyway :)

And yes, (for those who have wondered!) I did pick the name Fred from Amy Acker's character on Angel--although she was Winifred and I went with Frederica ;)

2.5 stars- I have read a few of Mary Frame's books now and I have to say this one was my least favorite. There just wasn't enough of anything here. Not enough story, not enough character development, not enough likeable characters, not enough romantic development. It was easy to read and get through and light hearted for the most part, but it needed more.

So first, Fred and Beast. I mean could you have any two worse names? IDK but these were pretty terrible and when the characters have names I don't like it's harder for me to get into a story. Yes, we find out way toward the end that Fred is short for Frederika or however you spell it but terrible. She was supposed to be this funny nerd with all the references, and she was okay but just okay. I honestly didn't get a lot of the references and I'm plenty nerdy about a lot of things. The nerdy stuff I usually love and I feel like it could have been better if she explained some of the random references thrown in here and there. When you don't know, it can make you feel more detached from the story instead of thinking how cute it is. In other books by this author I have loved the nerdy vibe. With Fred it was like she was trying to hard to be nerdy or something. For some reason I just wasn't buying it.

Beast was actually super cute, I liked him for the most part. He was kind of one/ barely two dimensional. Super hot, huge muscles, enormous stature, takes care of everyone and everything to a fault, and couldn't talk. I thought this was an interesting and could have been a really cool, in depth character. Even when he finally shared his past with Fred which should have felt really bonding and giving his character more depth, it just didn't hit home for me for some reason. Again, something was just lacking, but he was my favorite part of the book.

Honestly with this one I felt like the author couldn't wait to get to the sex scenes and so she just threw other stuff in the middle to get her where she was wanting to go. The first kiss scene was super hot and I loved it. But there was little to no further development that would have led to the feelings these two were supposedly sharing before they went further. They just seemed like lust crazed teenagers who couldn't wait to get to the next part and then too many bedroom scenes, not enough development anywhere else, and then more bedroom scenes. I just skimmed through them mostly to be honest. They weren't that good and there was too many of them.

So yeah, I wish there was more good to say. The last book I read by her I absolutely loved, but this one makes me question if I want to try more of her books if this is the direction they are taking. Beast was a good character over all despite his name, and I did like the way this one ended, which is why I put 3 stars as my rating instead of two (Since Goodreads won't let me do a half star) but this story needed way more.

Really fun read with the serious underling issue of not feeling worthy. Beast, who was introduced in the Dorky Duet Series as a huge guy that does not talk, but has everyone’s best interest at heart is one of the main characters of this book. I thought it would be so interesting to read a book about a character that does not talk at all. How would this story develop? The answer is fantastic!

The author handles the situation with love and care and by the end of end of the book, I adore Beast more than ever. Fred (Fredericka) is staying in Blue Falls to heal her broken heart and ego after a bad breakup. Her goal is to return to her home, New York, once she is whole again. Neither Beast nor Fred were looking for a soul mate, but that is what they found. While Fred is trying to help Beast learn how to date, they fell head over heels in love with each other! Not an original theme, but it is carried out with the twist of Beast not being able to talk, so that makes it modern and quirky.

Fred is a very memorable character since she is a full blown Fandom nerd, always making references to movies or books. To be honest, I did not understand some of the references, so I looked them up while reading. So, I understood what she was very cleverly saying and also understood how other people did not “get her” sometimes.

Mary Frame seems to have great humorous personality and it shows so much in her writing. I have read all of her books and each one is full of her special gift of bringing her unique characters to life.

This is a standalone book, and can be read separately, but I do think reading the Dorky Duet Series would give the reader background information which would make this book more enjoyable.

My face hurts from smiling so much while reading. Nerdelicious by Mary Frame is like a breathe of fresh, funny, charming air! I was so happy that Beast got his own book and it was even better than I anticipated! It takes a skillful author to write a book with the male lead not being able to talk. Beast not only has a strong voice but his heart steals the book. Loved all the “nerd” references and laughed out loud while swooning at the love story that teaches us that self worth is the most important thing of all. The whole gang is here and lend humour and warmth to this sweet funny tale of a nerd and her beast. This is
feel-good reading at its best!

****Nerdelicious is an interesting play on insecurity and feelings of negativity about self. Socially insecure Fred says her best friends are fictional. She’s smarting from a breakup. Beast is insecure because he cannot verbally speak. Watching these two get beyond stereotypes and bloom is as delicious as all the food references that Ms. Frame makes. Young adult readers should especially enjoy this book which is filled with lots of pop-culture references. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

Adorable. Especially if you are a bit of a nerd about Mel Brooks, Lord of the Rings, Rocky Horror and other fandoms. Grace knows about all the fandoms and her sense of humour encompasses references to all of them. Personally, I found the references delightful even though they have marked her as weird by others. The story is about the romance between Grace and Beast. Beast (nickname) is very attractive but also very big. He is also mute as a result of emotional trauma. A sweet romance with a cast of interesting characters that kept me smiling and laughing.

I love the connection they have and how they got together. I recommend this book to anyone who just need that sweet romance and heartwarming feelings!!! Well-written and great character development! This is the second book I've read in this universe and I loved it. The characters are so relatable and funny. Their lives are full of everything and they get their happy endings. I loved Beast's story, which is funny because it's told from Fred's perspective. I can't wait to read about everyone else now that I've finally gotten to understand Beast! The twists and turns in this book were awesome, including Granny's subplot - I didn't see that one coming! But I loved it. I want to go back and read Jude's story now, since I missed that one. I want to see what happens with Grace. And we were introduced to a few people at bar/restaurant that I think I could get into reading more about as well. I'm curious about Scarlet and if she already has a story or if she's going to get one. I just honestly fell in love with the wacky cast of characters(which is a sign of a well written book) and want them all to have stories now. Definitely recommend!

4.5 stars…This was great!

I normally don’t love NA/YA stories since I can’t always relate or believe what I’m reading, but this story had two really mature main characters that didn’t feel young. I definitely would have preferred if Beast was a little older (he’s 19) but it didn’t completely ruin it.

This had so many things I love - slow burn, secretly yearning for each other, virgin hero who is scarred and had a tough past, wonderful dialogue and interesting secondary characters.

My favourite part is how mature the ending is. I loved that he moved for her and then suggested they live separately to learn how to be independent adults. This was so dang mature and it made my day.

Would have loved an epilogue in the future!

I was not expecting Beast to be the MC in this one!!! I loved it though, even if he only muttered a few words the entire book. It was great to finally get his back story and learn exactly why he didn't speak and to see that it wasn't a permanent disability per se, but rather he lost his voice from lack of use after some traumatic experiences. This gentle (when he wanted to be) giant stole my heart.

I wish there had been more romance or scenes with them later on into their relationship. The book pretty much ends after Beast utters a few words, which was disappointing. So I'd have liked to see how they actually lived in the real world as a couple once Beast began talking and they began spending more time together without a phone being the main communication tool between them.

Bookelicious!

There are so many things I liked in this book, it's overwhelming! Great things, wise things, small things, deep things, little things... I liked them all.

She is a burning flame, a sun spreading light and goodness. He sees her as a beautiful, warm, generous blaze, even though she thinks of herself as a little candle.

He is a deep, silent ocean, hiding unfathomable riches in its depths. She sees him as a steadfast, giving, rich mountain, even though he thinks of himself as a broken rock.

This is a delightful telling of how they built a magical bridge from the sun to the mountain in the ocean, with tenderness, goodness, determination, doubts, smiles and tears, safely crossing the pitfalls of hell. And the bridge is true and strong, and they and their loved ones can now cross the waters of life...

I liked their conversations best. If you want to know more, go read it, or you'll miss out.

This book came to me via an ARC program, and I chose it because I was in the mood for a romantic comedy. However it turned out to be less comedy than I had anticipated.

The Premise
Fred (short for Fredericka) returns to Blue Falls, en route to New York but in need of a respite to have a base while she looks for work — not to mention, to gather her wits after the end of a bad romance. Six months later, she winds up drunk at a party, with a slobbering mess of a kisser, and she is rescued by “Beast”, a seven-foot tall mute gentle giant who is the foster brother of Grace, who lives with Fred and her “Granny” with whom she’s been staying. Beast asks her to help him build his communication skills with dating, but this soon evolves into much more. Knowing she plans to leave, Fred is tugged between this budding romance and the call of the outside world. Beast can’t come with her because his damaged past ties him to Grace and their other foster brother Jude — but nerdelicious Fred still isn’t giving up hope.

The Pros
I really appreciated that this story had an unlikely hero and heroine. Beast’s lacking vocal communication skills are a result of past trauma, and Fred is the polar opposite: she can’t shut up. The nerdy fandom is running at a constant pace in her mind. Somehow, these two manage to find a middle ground where they communicate through technology and sign language. Apart from the romance, I also liked the side story of the foster children who stick by each other — this was endearing and very touching. As the story wound to its eventual end, I loved that Beast worked towards transforming himself and overcoming his past issues, so he could communicate better with Fred.

The Cons
While I liked the overall story, I was expecting more comedy. It started off hilarious, and I enjoyed the first scene — and then from that point, it was back-and-forth with a blossoming romance that was sweet, and sad, and sexy — but not really funny. Beyond that letdown, I was also hoping for more conflict between the two main characters, but Beast just seemed like the perfect boyfriend, and Fred the perfect quirky chick — their only challenge was distance, which was easily solved. Another issue for me was that the POV shifted coming down to the end — without warning. Suddenly we were in Beast’s head — WTF? Why? When this happened, I actually wished that the entire novel had been split half and half, rather than just this one solo chapter dangling there by its lonesome. This felt like a missed opportunity, as it could have made an even better story.

Conclusion
This was a good read, but I wanted a bit more. I liked the stream-of-consciousness narrative with dollops of references here and there (some of them over my head!) to align with the book’s title “Nerdelicious”, and I can see many readers thoroughly enjoying this book because they can connect with these types of characters. For me it was a bit lacklustre as I expected something different, but I would still highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a light read with refreshing characters.

Light read

I enjoyed the characters and the story. It was simple and sweet and funny. It didn't exactly suck me into the series, but learning more about the rest of their group could be fun. Overall, it was a well written, cute, light read.

This book uses Cyrano de Bergerac and ComicCon as inspiration for the story within its pages. No surprise, given the author, it works. One thing I know for sure is that this was a very enjoyable read.

I absolutely loved the characters. They are flawed in one way or another, but they overcome it by caring for and protecting each other. Beast is probably my favorite. He’s believable and wonderful. The writing makes this an easy book to zip through.

The story does get hot and spicy at times, but it’s innocent and heartwarming at others. I dare you to read this and not go, “Awwwww,” at the end. Know that there are no cliffhangers, and it’s a HEA that will leave you feeling good, and smiling. It’s truly a delightful read, engaging and interesting, a testament to what love can do.

I would suggest that this series be read in order as there are references to characters and situation that occurred in the earlier books in this series. The first book sets out all the relationship, so it helps to understand them. Unfortunately, if you haven’t read the earlier books, this book doesn’t offer many reminders of how people fit together. This book also has many, many, many popular culture references, primarily from comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, and other things I admit to not recognizing. While it’s still a great read, you might appreciate it more if your understand most of these references.

I've been wanting a nice easy romcom lately, but I haven't had any in my pile. And then Voila! I won one from Goodreads. Very exciting.

Nerdelicious is a cute, quirky, hot and totally predictable romcom with a bunch of nerdy pop culture references thrown in. I'd score myself about an 80% in recognizing them. Obviously I got the Harry Potter ones :). And my favorite reference was from HP. Whenever the main character Fred (the girl. short for Fredericka), had ugly thoughts inside her head, they were in Delores Umbridge's voice. That voice that tells you when you've done something stupid or embarrassing. The voice that tells you you're worthless. All Delores. Which is apt and brilliant in my opinion.

Fred is laying low in a small town in Texas following a break up. She's 22 and facing the rest of her life. She doesn't have a job, and most of her friends belonged to her ex and she's just not sure where she's going.

She's lucky to be surrounded by a super quirky and loving cast of characters. None of them are "normal" but they are all lovely. When Beast, a hulking young man who can't speak asks her for dating advice, they become super close.

It was cute. It was silly. It's part of a companion set of books that can all be read as stand alones, but I'll definitely put the others on my list.

A silly, but easy to read, light rom-com. The heroine Fred is a 22-year-old self-professed nerd. She loves all things comic, sci-fi, and fantasy and constantly works random fandom-related one-liners into her dialogue. (Most of which went straight over my head). She moved temporarily to the small town of Blue Falls from New York City when her boyfriend broke up with her.

The hero is known to all as 'Beast', the mute gentle giant who was a secondary character in the previous books in the series.

Beast convinces Fred to help him build his confidence with girls, as he's 19 and his inability to speak has meant he has no experience. Because she's his friend and wants to help, Fred tries to put aside her own attraction while platonically giving Beast 'love lessons'. Beast just needed an excuse to test the waters with Fred, who he wanted to date from the beginning.

They have a sweet, text-to-speech / sign language / text communication that shows Fred's ability to accept and love Beast as is.

There is mild angst when Fred needs to return home to New York, while Beast's family commitments keep him in Blue Falls.

This book contains descriptive love scenes.

Hello! This book was a three stars for me, meaning it was a good/ok or in between, it went a bit fast while the description of the book made me think it would be more of a slow burn because of the fake dating/ teaching him how to date.

I liked both of the main characters and the side characters (I only read this book not the ones before it), I felt like both of the characters should have gone more in depth and known more about themselves before getting into the relationship, such as beasts real name, or just telling more about themselves because it made me feel like their chemistry wasn’t the strongest.

I liked granny and how she added things in, I feel like the plot could have had more though. This is a new adult book because both of the main characters are over 18, but nothings really goes in depth.

Over all if you like shy/non talking hero’s this book is for you, also nice.

Get ready for a nerd rollercoaster of emotions! I love Fred, when she's around it's like living in a Gilmore Girls episode with all the fandom and pop culture references, and a whole book of her isn't enough!! I looove the face that Beast finally takes the spotlight he so much deserved and to see the caring and shy character finally bloom into his own person is amazing. I was beyond thrilled when i knew these two characters would be together because they are so perfect for each other, both convinced they are not worth the effort but so definitely worth it! They really can understand and take care of each other and are adorable!
And the plus for reading it multiple times? You will always catch a new reference you didn't notice before, be it from the nerd fandoms, literary or pop culture :)

Would have been 4 stars since I enjoyed the tone and the nerdiness of the characters but the audio book narrator kept mispronouncing words. That is a big pet peeve for me, I almost stopped listening about 7 mins in at the 3rd or 4th mispronunciation, a-cooter-mints. Also the southern accents that came and went were distracting. Lastly, I really hate when the author swaps POV and that information is not provided to the audio book listener.

Beast has been a silent, looming presence in previous installments to the series. While this is billed as a companion story to a duet of books, it can really be a part of the series.

Beast has always been an enigmatic, brooding presence in the series. We finally get to know Beast and when you hear his story and experience his resulting disability, you'll just want to reach into the pages of the book and give him a big old hug. Poor guy, for all of his good looks and imposing size, has had a really rough upbringing and came through to the other side a little bit damaged, but a whole lot kind and protective.

Beast's disability and his sister Grace's dependency on him are handled gently and with great sensitivity, making the reader become invested in Beast and his struggles to be more 'normal.' Meeting Fred, a quirky nerd/fangirl of all things comic books, really turns his world on its head. Until now, he has been content to take care of his family and go to school. Never believing he is worthy of big things, he doesn't really step too far outside of his comfort zone until Fred. Her acceptance and his attraction to her make him want more than the cocoon he and Grace inhabit.

Fred is simply lovely. She is a self-avowed nerd and always feels a bit like an outsider; so she is willing to accept Beast with all of his baggage and idiosyncrasies. This acceptance does more to help Beast strive to overcome his disability than anything before. Fred and Beast together are just perfect.

Five stars for this quirky romantic comedy wrapped around a touching story.

"I did the right thing. So why does it feel like I’ve lost everything?"


I have to tell you, I haven't read such a "feel good story," in quite a while. The characters are precious and so unusual, you fall for them like a ton of bricks. We have Fred. She is home in Blue Falls, Texas, after a bad breakup, in New York. She plans to regroup, refresh and then return to New York, to show her ex and all of her friends, that she is all that. Only, there's Beast. Yes, Beast. The silent giant, that gains her notice, intrigues her, and then asks for her help - in dating. Beast is a good young man, through and through, only he is non-verbal through trauma. What's more, he makes Fred feel like she has value, too. If only either of them understood how wonderful they truly are. Fred has just a little time to forget Beast, or convince him to go with her. Mary Frame's "Nerdelicious," has a way of allowing you to feel the emotions of her characters, whether it's dying a thousand deaths, cringing to your core, liking someone so much it hurts, or falling in love. This is my first-time reading Mary Frame. but she has given me characters that I need to put to bed. So, to speak. I actually HAVE a few of her books, that I've acquired through promotions. It's time to sort them, and figure out where to start. There's drama, angst, a wee bit of a mystery, opposites attract, broken heroes, character development, painful growth, a slow-burning romance, humorous situations, awkward situations, sexual situations, romance and love. A very touching, thoughtful, emotional, read. I received this book as an ARC from Hidden Gems Books, and I volunteered this review.

I would write this book a 3.25. There was not much to this book, but I was invested.

The title to me doesn’t really make sense for what this book is. There are references in the book here and there where the main character might mention a reference to some “nerdy” thing like speaking Klingon.

This is also a book that has quotes in the beginning of each chapter. There are more so like in the nerdy territory.

Anyways, so this story follows Fred (MFC) and Beast (MMC). This is actually the third book in the dorky series. I did not read the first two but you don’t need to read the first two to get to the third book because they follow a different characters and their love story.

So Fred, is someone who speaks with on her mind without really thinking about it when she says it. Beast, on the other hand does not speak. We do find out why he doesn’t speak later in the book, but for the most part, he uses text to talk, texting and ASL. This actually made me really curious because there wasn’t anything hinting that he has a disability which he doesn’t so it’s interesting. I don’t hate it.

Without going too deep into the story, basically Fred moves down to Texas. She’s from New York and that’s where she meets Beast and she stays at Granny’s house and it’s a whole ordeal, but not really. It seems kind of random.

Since this is a nerdy romance without really the nerdiness, you can guess how the book will end happy of course. I would recommend this to someone who is just looking for a short read.

I so loved this book! It’s nerdy, and sweet, and romantic and I was smiling like an idiot all the way through it.

Fred (Fredericka) has had her heart stomped on. To help her heal, she escapes New York and heads to Blue Falls where she works, saves, and tries to forget about her ex. All seemed to be going well and then Beast, big, attractive, and completely silent, asks her to help him with his dating. She agrees, figuring that she’s helping out a friend, but as they start spending more and more time together, she finds there’s so much more to the Beast than just his size.

Ugh, my heart! My heart reading this book! Seriously, it kind of went through the wringer with Fred and Beast, but I loved it. I loved that Fred was so geeky, and a little socially inept, but hell, she owns that and doesn’t try to hide who she is. I loved that Beast is this massive hulk of a guy who basically just glares and grunts, but has a heart to that is just as big as his body. These two fit together so well, and I absolutely appreciated that there was no unneeded drama in the mix. Just a love story between two people working through their insecurities to find love with each other.

Absolutely recommended if you want a feel-good, HEA story about healing after heartache and finding perfection in non-perfection. Thank you Voracious Readers and Mary Frame for my copy! I will definitely be looking for the Dorky Duet after this!

So if you like references from all things from harry potter, marvel, dc and sci fi then you will like reading this. We have the weird and wonderful Fredricka aka Fred who learns that her boyfriend was not faithful and she high tails it out of New York to Blue falls. She is there to save up money and to heal. Now Fred is smart, shy and in her own world. While she is in Blue Falls she makes new friends. One of them being Beast. Oh man is this guy freaking hot. However, he has his own issues. One being that he does not talk. Does that stop her from talking to him. No, she helps him learn of other ways to communicate. Beast has never had a relationship with a girl and ask Fred for her help to be able to talk and date girls. She says yes but can they stay friends. Especially since she offers herself up to teach him to kiss. Now this can go one of two ways. One they can remain friends or feelings are going to develop. Remember she is only in Blue Falls til she gets back on her feet. Can she still have fun and not give her heart away. Will Beast see that he needs to do things for himself now. He is the most generous person and will do anything for anyone. These two are a pair in their own bubble and cute too. Can they both follow their dreams and still love each other from close or at a distance. Will they both get a happily ever after? You may want to check it out to find out.
