In the next few lines, Sharmeen Farooq is going to pretend it's not awkward at all talking about herself in the third person. Sharmeen is a Canadian High School teacher with a certificate in Creative Writing. Currently, she lives with her husband and three-year old son in Germany and is glad to be over the cultural shock. In her free time, if she gets any, she likes to read, write, travel, paint, do arts and craft, and feed her obsession with Korean shows. Sharmeen loves to write because it allows her to let go of the past, be completely herself, and live out her fantasies.

“Think of your mind as a puzzle, all the pieces filled with your one-of-a-kind experiences, memories, perspectives, and ideas.”
How the Hell Do You Fill that Blank Page by Sharmeen Farooq is just the tool all writers need (whether you are just beginning or have advanced your craft)! This easy-to-use workbook is full of thoughtful prompts, helpful tips and best of all, anyone can read and use at their own pace and in any order. These exercises take several different forms: text prompts, image prompts, fake new article headlines, even prompting the reader to pull inspiration from dreams or song lyrics. They are open-ended and ask you questions designed to get the creativity juices flowing.

I’ve already gone through and circled several of them and wrote notes in the margins. This is a very well thought out guide and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to keep notes for any and all future works. She included some great templates too - for storyboards, mind maps and plot diagrams, so you can start brainstorming right away. My only suggestion would be that I would have loved this to be spiral bound so that I could keep a page laying flat, and I would have loved to have had some more loose leaf blank notebook pages to jot down general notes (she included one in the very back).

Writing is one of the most tedious tasks and we all will agree on how tough it is to fill the blank pages. It's the greatest battle between our thoughts and blank papers where our duration and success are uncertain. The only weapon which can ensure our victory is creativity and perseverance.

Sharmeen's book "𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘋𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘗𝘢𝘨𝘦" is like a recipe that enlightens how to use the exact combination of ideas and writing style in various story formats. It's not a writing guide with instructions but a stimulating book that supports our creativity. The lovely orientation of quotations, passages, images, etc will assist you to think and develop stories in your way and you'll see in the end how your blank sheets are full of incredible stories.

Enjoyed it!

After I got the book, I can say that she takes those playful IG prompts on a whole different level!
It contains so much more than just prompts. It has writing advice, inspiration, and writing resources.
You can tell that a lot of hard work and thought went into the creation of How the Hell Do You Fill That Blank Page?
I think it's a wonderful tool for any writer to have.
I'm sure I'll keep revisiting it every time I get stuck :)

I discovered this author on IG and was fascinated at the concept of this book. As an independent author, I sometimes struggle with having to fill that blank page. I got Sharmeen’s book and it’s now my go-to whenever the muse in my head goes quiet. If you’re a writer, or toying with the idea of becoming a writer, I strong recommend buying this book. Read it all the way though, then keep it handy when you sit down to write. You won’t regret it.

A great starter book

I loved the prompts and the steps to get started. I have always wanted to start writing stories and poems again but lacked motivation and creativity to initiate. This book gave me that kick start.
