Can Clementine, a sharpshooter in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, escape her abusive “manager” to find true love with Kurt, a Texas cowboy?

Kurt Armstrong, a wanna-be trick shooter, runs away to join Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. But his aspirations exceed his skill, and he fails to make the grade. Instead, he’s hired as an extra, and he meets Clementine Campbell. Kurt falls in love with the red-headed sharpshooter, and she turns his world upside down.

Clementine is the warm-up act for Annie Oakley in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. But she’s not performing by choice; she’s been sold by her uncle to an unscrupulous and dangerous man who acts as her manager and controls her by force. Clementine doesn’t know how to break free until she learns a secret about her manager, George Byrnes. When she meets and falls in love with Kurt, she finds the courage to try to rid herself of the men who enslave her, George, and her uncle Angus.

To retain her reputation and liberate herself, Clementine needs to prove George’s unnatural and abusive tendencies. But George is one step ahead of her, and he marries her to retain control of her earnings as a sharpshooter. Forced to repudiate Kurt, so his life won’t be in danger, she’s trapped in an abusive relationship. Can she free herself and regain the love of her life, Kurt?

MORE THAN A PERFORMANCE

The series will be multiple stories by various authors, but each story will read well as a stand-alone. The story is a clean western historical with a touch of history. The story is a spin-off from this author's book, Zach, featured in the Bachelor and Babies series. Zach, a sergeant in the military, had investigated a murdered couple and found their infant son, who he decided to raise—and eventually marries a widow. Now, that infant, Kurt Armstrong, is a grown man with his dreams—to be a performer in a wild west shows. The story will pick up in Chicago, Illinois, in July 1983 at the Columbia Exposition where Wild Bill Cody and Annie Oakley are headlining.

At the show, before the main events, another young woman, Clementine Campbell, will start the crowd off with her sharpshooting skills. This will be where Kurt will first see her. He has been practicing a maneuver he is hoping would be a draw, but it doesn’t work out—yet, he manages to be hired by the show because he is from Texas and can ride—performing in a reenactment of Custer’s Last Stand.

The story will have Clementine working the show but under the guardianship of a man who knows her Uncle Angus—George Byrnes. She has been instructed to say that he is her half brother, and he takes most of her earnings, passing some on to her Uncle and taking most of it for himself. Clementine has a few female friends, like Maggie, and then one of the Indian girls, Flora, or ‘Flies Like A Bird,’ whose father is in the show.

The story’s plot will have Kurt traveling to Chicago and seeing the Wild West show and meeting Annie Oakley, who will ask Clementine to assist Kurt. While he doesn’t have what it takes to do the trick riding and shooting routine, he and Clementine develop a friendship that George isn’t happy about. As they get to know each other, he is open and honest about his family and his dreams, but she has had to tell lies for so long, that she is afraid to tell him the truth. With the help of Flora, it will be that they pass notes back and forth, trying to avoid trouble. Just when things seem reasonable—it all comes crashing down.

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. I loved the history and how the author worked Clementine and Kurt into this excellent timeframe using characters like Wild Bill Cody and Annie Oakley. The chemistry between Kurt and Clementine develops into a sweet but secretive romance that doesn’t end as they want. Their little cupid, Flora, is a smart girl who wants them together too. But evil interferes, and Clementine isn’t willing to risk anyone else to escape George. Sometimes in life, bad things happen, but with due time, maybe good can happen.

This story takes place in the 1890’s and has an engaging historical visual of the Wild West and its famous entertainment show, including Annie Oakley. Clementine has a heartbreaking past, and Kurt is the son of Zach and Johanna, who we met in book 1, Zach. The plot holds a lot of drama standing in the way of Clementine and Kurt finding their happy ever after. Their romance is heartwarming. The story includes an interesting cast of characters. Flora (aka Flies Like A Bird) is a delight in every scene she appears in. The author does a great depiction of the villain by giving the reader a reason to dislike him yet doesn’t push his character too far. I highly recommend taking a weekend walk into the past with Kurt. A good read

Kurt - ends up joining the wild west show while a another was injured.
Clementine- her uncle and manager huge greedy jerks. She is a sharp shooter.
I enjoyed reading this entertaining story that is well written with charismatic characters. This story had a fun and intriguing insight to the wild west shows and interesting tidbits of Annie Oakley. The ending seemed a bit rushed and somewhat unfulfilling. Their story has an adequate HEA.

This series is a follow up to the stories in the Bachelor and Babies series. Hebby Roman brings us the story of Kurt who had been adopted by a soldier who found him after his parents had been murdered. As do many young people, Kurt wanted to do something different and tries to join Buffalo Bill Cody’s show as a trick shooter. He meets and falls for Clementine, a performer in the show. Kurt and Clementine’s story is one of heartbreak, romance, tests and evil. The characters come to life and the story will keep you reading. An excellent story.

Stuck in a Bad Situation

Interesting story set in the world of wild West shows. Clementine is a sweetheart who seems to have it all, but in reality, she's trapped by wicked men and convention. Kurt is a likable character, far different from George. The author set up an interesting scenario for her plot that added suspense and conflict, which I found interesting. A sweet ending made this a fun read.

Wow

Wow, what an involved tale full of historical figures and ideological events surrounding the West. There are some who would say that sheep farmers are not strictly cowboys but Kurt shows his mettle and Clementine too.

Time has flown and the baby boy, Kurt that Zach rescued from the bushes in the book "Zach" was now all grown up and instead of heading for another year of college like his parents believed, he went to Chicago to join the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, where he became one of the calvary men for Custer's Last Stand. As a member of the show, he became more acquainted with the introductory female sharp shutter, Clementine Campbell. Kurt had noticed Clementine when he sat in the audience watching her performance as a sharp shooter with her beautiful red hair prior to Annie Oakly. They had an extremely strong attraction toward each other from the moment they met, they had to keep their relationship secret for her reputation and from the man that controlled her. Many adverse things had happened in Clementine's past that had put her in the situation she was in and none of them was good. Being under age left under the guardianship of two very unscrupulous men, she could not get away from. This story will keep you on the edge of your chair with all the twists and turns. Just about the time you think you got it figured out here comes another curve. Will Kurt and Clementine ever get there happily ever after. You will have to read the book to see.

I enjoyed this historical western romance story with all of the characters. The two main characters were Clementine Campbell and Kurt Armstrong.

Clementine Campbell has had a hard life. Her uncle has sold her to a man that has took her to Buffalo Bill's Wild West show so that she can earn money for him. She learned how to shoot quite well before she was sold. Because she was afraid of uncle and his drinking. While there she meets a younger man that is quite nice.

Kurt Armstrong has wanted to be in the Buffalo Bill's Wild West show for awhile. He has been practicing a trick to show them but when he show it he fail at it. He also meets a young women.

This was a fun story to read. It has action, adventure, drama, secrets and suspense. It also had a few funny parts that had me laughing or giggling to.

I received a complimentary copy via Booksprout. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

Clementine works as the pre-show for Annie Oakley as the troupe travels around the country. Kurt tries out for a role, but it does not happen. He does fall for Clementine though and they start a relationship that has to stop when her guardian finds out. She has been sold into working for this man and he takes what she earns so she is trapped. Years later, they meet up again and the relationship has a chance to come full circle.
The characters are well defined and have great backstories. The storyline is a roller coaster ride of drama, lies, control, twists, surprises and romance. Loved the feelings and trust they showed each other when they reconnected. The ending is great.

This is a spinoff from Zach, an earlier book in the series. Clementine and Kurt are attracted to each other. But she's underage, with her uncle as her guardian, and he's rather unscrupulous. With some twists in the plot, it's an interesting story for these two to get together. It was fascinating to watch the secondary characters come to life in this old west setting. Kurt and Clementines story was interesting. It's different than ones I've read in a while. I liked that it took place during Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. The storyline was good and it has HEA ending. It was mostly clean (A bit suggestive and lots of heavy kissing). Good characters.

Amazing story

I really enjoyed reading this story. Kurt meets Clementine, but Clementine's "brother" doesn't like that. He's very mean spirited and nasty to Clementine. There's a big twist to the story that I didn't expect and had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen.

Kurt: (Cupids and Cowboys, Book 11)

I enjoyed this book by Author Hebby Roman. It's a cute series written by different authors and can be read as a stand alone. The storyline is based around the Wild Western Shows in the historical west. I was pulled into the story quickly, happy to sit back, relax and meet these interesting characters, following along with the twists and turns of a good novel to their HEA. Recommend. JudyE
