I was recently diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and have been looking for more information about it, this was about the only book my library had on the subject.
This book is awful, most of the chapters repeat again and again, the same terrible statistics of how people with sleep apnea are at much higher risk for stroke, heart attack, heart failure and hypertension. It is blatant fear mongering and something I've found prevalent in the sleep industry.
There is only one chapter devoted to women, the rest of the book assuming male sleep issues and sexism when it comes to sleep is obvious when the book states that 'women's sleep has only been studied since the 1990's'.
The book does give some helpful information about the testing process and surgery options.
286 pages can be summed up as "CPAP is the only way." There, now you can read something else.
As the chapters go by, one starts to wonder what the author's financial relationship list would look like. I was hoping for an in depth look, not a commercial.
Might as well the author had just said we should see a sleep specialist and be done with it. There is no information on how to self diagnose, no techniques on how to cope for the mild cases. Easy read and learning of the terms.
I think that this book really teaches you about sleep apnea. It is a good book to turn to if you need to know the syntoms of sleep apnea. In this book you can also tell what kind of sleep apnea you have. It is a good medical book.
