Hi, welcome to my author page. I'm always looking for feedback for my stories, so if you want to read and review, just get in touch with me for a free copy!
A great quick and easy vampire romantasy read with an uncommon story ending! I really enjoyed devouring this. First modern time line book I've read and I really enjoyed the humour in it.
Heartsblood is Selina A Fenech's newest series and the first book is just as gripping a read as her previous books. I wasn't able to put down till I finished I was invested in the main character Kaitlyn 'Kitty' Owens. Kitty moved to LA to become an actress but so far she hasn't had much luck. Desperate for money she accepts a job at a Vampire club, not know it will change everything. She is kidnapped by an actual vampire Owen, as he drinks from her things change between them. Will it be enough to regain her freedom and in the end will it be what she wants.
I've been looking for a new vampire series and this was really not what I was expecting. I really liked the main character Kitty, a struggling actress who takes a job at a LARPing event where she's acting as a vampires victim. Only it turns out there was a real vampire there, and he gets obsessed with her blood and takes her prisoner. I did enjoy the slow-burn romance even though it is a bit Stockholm syndrome-y. I liked Owen's story too of how he became a vampire. There's not a whole lot more to the story apart from the romance and her being held captive and trying to escape, but there is promise for the series to explore more of the vampire world and Kitty's special blood. I found the ending very satisfying. A good, short vampire read.
I first heard of Selina Fenech as a fantasy artist who's work I rather liked (her Selkie picture is a personal favourite); when I discovered she was also a published author I thought I'd have a look at her books.
This one was not for me.
The plot: Kitty French is a struggling actress who dreams of being a star. She's behind on her rent and desperately needs money so agrees to take a job as the part of a victim in a vampire LARP. She assumes she'll be chased and pawed over and possibly nibbled on by wannabe vampires for an evening in return for much needed cash. But, wouldn't you know it, there's a real vampire in the group and the sweet, sweet taste of her blood provokes him into kidnapping her so he can keep her around for a bit, sipping on her over the course of a few weeks or months before draining her to death. But of course that's not what happens:
I thought the first part of the novel was interesting and showed promise; I mean, the awfulness of Kitty's life is over emphasized at the start (at least, I assume; has anyone had to live in a three bedroom condo with ten strangers? maybe this is what happens), but the idea of an extreme vampire LARP sounded pretty cool. Sadly, the 'romance' did nothing for me, and as that was the bulk of the book it wasn't ever going to gel with me. On the plus side, it is a very quick read - I read the whole thing in 24 hours.
I don't really know what I can say; this wasn't a 'bad' book as such, just not one that appealed to me at all. I generally prefer my vampires to be in the horror category, brutal villains rather than tortured bad boys. Maybe a YA reader who's outgrown Twilight would enjoy it, but other people who like their vampires as monsters would be best advised to give it a swerve.
Unlife Heartsblood #1 a audio book review Selina A. Fenech's 1st novel in the Heartsblood series Unlife. I was lucky enough to review the new adiobook for this title. Last year (2022) I got the chance to interview Selina A. Fenech she's a amazing artist and I'm delighted to say fantastic story teller. This audiobook is 5 stars, the reader did a wonderful job conveying all the emotions of Kaitlyn has in her sticky situation. The confusion of Owen is beautifully done as well. I highly recommend this audio book to anyone who love paranormal romance with a kiss of blood.
This is definitely a new take on a vampire story for me. On the one hand I couldn’t put it down because there was something about it that just kept drawing me back. On the other it’s kinda like omg how am I liking a story about kidnapping and imprisonment. There’s definitely an angsty love story vibe which reminds me a little bit of Twilight. Not in the sparkly vamp way but in the vamp who doesn’t believe he deserves anything good way. I know this is part one of a trilogy but I honestly like the way it ended here, for me that was a great way to roll credits. For those that are sensitive there is violence and the whole imprisonment thing so bear that in mind before reading. But if you like not your typical romance stories give this a go.

I received and advanced ARC copy of Unlife, the first book in the Heartsblood Series by Selina a. Fenech to give my honest and unbiased opinion. I am totally speechless and almost unable to put into to words on how enamored with this book I am. I was unsure if I was going to even like the book in the beginning because of how Kaitlyn “kitty” French and Owen Raine met. However, I, like Kitty could not resist Owen’s psychotically beautiful charm. Kitty was a down on her luck actress looking for her next meal along with her big break when her sleezy agent set her up to play a victim in a vampire hunting game. When Kitty met Owen, she was in disbelief of his true nature and trying to survive his hunger for her deliciously tasting blood. Unfortunately, she fell in love with Owen and Owen caught feelings for her. The book was a thrilling joy ride from stat to finish and it left you rooting for the villain. Unlife will have you immersed in the characters, setting, storyline and overall charm of the book itself. Owen and Kitty’s attraction and reactions to one another left little doubt of what turn their story would take. Even though Owen was the enemy/villain, he made you fall deeply enamored with him and root for his success. I truly loved this first book in the series, and I cannot wait for the others in the series to be published. Truly enjoyed reading this book and wish the author continued success. Highly recommend.
I loved this book, I started reading it one night and next thing I knew it was 6am. Oops... It is so different to the vampire novels that have come out in the last couple of years, and as quoted in the book the “stuff pop culture had told me about vampires.” I found it refreshing to read and with a major twist near the end. Do yourself a favour and grab a copy of the first book in the series, I was lucky enough and I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book was so refreshing to me. I was hooked on the story between Kitty and Owen. I am inlove with this book and I hope to get to read the 2nd book. I recommend this book to anyone that love stories about vampires, this is totally not like any other book I've read before.

Unlife, is the story of Kitty, a young Hollywood actress who unknowingly takes an acting gig where she encounters a real vampire. Captive to the vampire, Kitty tries to prove her humanity to avoid being seen merely as food. While I enjoyed the story, I felt it could benefit from more detailed descriptions to enhance believability and further develop the characters.
Partway through the story, Kitty finds herself attracted to the vampire, Owen. This development seemed sudden and unexplained. There is little information provided about Kitty and minimal details about Owen, such as their backgrounds. It would have helped if the author included initial descriptions demonstrating Kitty’s attraction to Owen’s features, which could explain her sudden feelings and evolving relationship. Otherwise, her emotions seem more like Stockholm syndrome.
**Spoiler Alert** I would have preferred a longer build-up of tension before the significant change occurred. More insight into why the change happened would have been nice, including whether Owen is fully human again or if he retains any lingering vampire powers. **End Spoiler Alert**
The book is set in Hollywood, with no indication that the characters lived anywhere other than the United States. However, the author is Australian, and a couple of Australian phrases are used in the book. While they didn’t distract significantly, having to look them up did momentarily take me out of the story:
- Page 6: “She even charged an ‘admin fee’ on top of utilities share. The whole thing was a rort.” ('Rort' is an Australian term for fraud.) - Page 139: “I turned back to see a grocer holding up a tray of strawberries to sample. ‘Try one. Best you’ve ever tasted. Get two punnets for the price of one.’” ('Punnet' is an Australian term for a small light basket or container for fruit or vegetables.)
I also found one error: - Page 82: Typo: “The vitality of being immersed in water in this dreamlike setting left my philosophical.” (‘My’ should be ‘me’.)
Overall, I’d give Unlife a 3 1/2 to 4-star rating. The premise is intriguing, but it could benefit from deeper character development and more detailed storytelling.

Review: Again, Unlife is the first book in the Heartsblood series by Selina A. Fenech. If you love brooding vampire men, sassy, food-obsessed heroines, and a HEA with a twist, sink your teeth into this fresh and fun vampire series now. Unlife is a refreshing take on a vampire romance book, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. In the beginning, I was a little worried about the storyline ending up the same as previous vampire romance stories that I have read before this one. However, to my delight and surprise, this was a whole new and different storyline. The characters are exceptionally well-written, and Selina makes them come alive in the readers mine. I would encourage adult readers who love a good fantasy romance story to check this book out. It was a page-turner from the beginning and I can't wait to read what will happen next in the series.

When I write a book review I do not like to give a opinion, since tastes differ. But I do like to offer some info that might help people decide if this book might be an interesting read for them.
This book was a surprise to me since it certainly was not a “vampire meets woman” story variation I have come across before. I personally had some problems with the involuntary blood draining, vampire style of course ( some descriptions warn for that as a trigger) That's becauseI have a problem with my own blood getting drawn for bloodtests. But that is my personal issue and not the fault of the writer, who describes it in a non offensive way. The two main characters start out being a little stereotype, a wannabe actress down on her luck lands in the claws of an unfeeling bloodsucker who really likes the taste of her blood. But the actress shows spunk and real acting skills and the interaction slowly changes for both main characters. The end is both predictable and surprising, thats all I can tell you about it without giving away spoilers. There are more books in this series but thiis one can also be read as a stand alone
I am struggling to categorize this book - it is billed as a vampire romantasy, and I suppose in the end it could fit that - but the experience of reading this book is not what most people are looking for in that type of book. It is an emotionally compelling read with luscious food descriptions, but not the angsty passion-filled seductive romance typical of the genre.
Kitty and Owen in some ways are the key to the other's salvation and the book is the story of them individually becoming more as they are drawn to each other. In the beginning, Kitty was desperate enough to take an ill-advised LARP role and Owen was nearly feral. Through the course of the book Kitty finds her strength, and Owen finds his humanity. In some ways it is a little bit Beauty and the Beast meets Robin McKinley's Sunshine. Not in plot, but in feel - what draws them together matures into respect and perhaps love, but it starts as need, hunger, desperation.
It is a book that is dark, is gritty, is ugly - but is laced with hope, resilience, and ultimately breaks through to something unexpectedly beautiful and tender. Like a flower blooming in the middle of an asphalt lot.
One of the most unromantic romance books I have ever read. If I hadn't been participating in a reading challenge and needed this book because it met certain criteria, I probably would have DNFed.
Kitty, an underemployed actress who is about to be evicted, takes a LARPing role because she needs money fast. She thinks she's playing dress up for a bunch of would be vampires but meets Owen, who is the real thing. Owen kidnaps Kitty because her blood is special and irresistible to him. At first, Owen is mean and unlikable but Kitty still manages for fall in love with him. Why, I don't know.
In addition to the characters being one dimensional, there are a few logistical snags that took me out of the story. Owen claims to be more than 400 years old but that doesn't seem to jive with the story he tells of when he was turned. Also, I'm left wondering how he procures the food he cooks for Kitty, since his housekeeper dies early on and he can't call Instacart because he doesn't have a cell phone.
The book is the first in a series and ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.
This is the first book in Selina Fenech’s Heartsblood series of vampire romance. The trilogy is about one couple and is best enjoyed in order.
I was initially irritated by our main character, down on her luck actress Kitty. She can be judgmental and often seems to have unrealistic expectations, but she does become more likable by the end of the book. Her vampire love interest, Owen, is interesting. I don’t want to say too much and spoil the surprise. I’m not usually a fan of books where the heroine falls in love with her kidnapper, but in this case, it works.
This was fun as an audiobook. Stephanie Németh-Parker was a great choice for narrator and really enhanced my enjoyment of the story. Her performance was well paced and easy to understand, expressing appropriate mood and emotions, and her voices really suited the characters.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author via BookSprout and volunteered to provide an honest review. If you like dark paranormal romance or romantic suspense, give this a try. I particularly recommend the audiobook.
If I'm being honest, this book did little more than strike me w/ Twilight themes, such as the MFC having this perfect, best in the world, gotta have it kind of blood to make the MMC vamp obsessed beyond reason w/ her. And, the "twist" of it all (no spoilers here) just left me going: Aw, come on...REALLY?!
It fell flat for me, really flat. Which is a shame because I generally like/love works from Selina - just not really this one.
Maybe I'm not the target market & that's ok - I'm sure many people will hopefully enjoy this series from her, this time, I just won't be one of them. I had a hard enough time getting through to the end of this book, & I honestly didn't care that it's set up to get you on to book 2. As the story goes, I'm good, no continuation needed. LOL.

This is the first book in the Heartblood series by Fenech and I have to say that the story lived up to the blurb. The story was told from Kaitlyn's point of view and every moment that we read from her shoes was believable. I personally hold vampire-human romance novels to a higher degree just because there are so many out there nowadays but this book doesn't disappoint. The pacing of the story made sense given all the situations that Kaitlyn found herself in. The book has a twist that most vampire novels don't do but this book pulled it off well. I'm looking forward to the next book. I even did a whole blog post about the book, so check that out if you want to read my full thoughts on the book.

This one was rather lacking for me. The details didnt match when we got them (vampire said he was turned 431 years ago, then describes being turned in Hyde park in Victorian England) and that wouldn’t typically bother me, but it was really all the story we got so it was glaring. Leaving the numbers vague would have been a better choice. The main character also never really gets a chance to talk, answer questions about HERSELF almost at all so the character development and romance felt so one-sided it was hard to find it believable. I really love this genre so I’m okay with a lot of the tropes involved, but this one missed the mark for me. Honestly my favorite part was the food descriptions, which really made me want to try some new dishes.
After seeing so many great reviews on this book I had to find out for myself. I can say with certainty that these are no exaggerations. There wasn’t a single moment in the story I did not love. Humor, romance, curiosity, sorrow. You truly get invested in both main characters. I only stopped reading after Kitty mentioned ice cream to grab some of my own and then devoured the rest of the book. The only way this story could be improved is with a dual POV, but the author does a great job portraying the thoughts and feelings of Owen without it. The second book in the series is not something I am going to miss out on!

Unlife is a refreshing twist on vampire romance, offering emotional growth, realistic characters, and a slow-burn love story that’s more about healing than lust. It’s ideal for readers who enjoy introspective fantasy, low-steam romance, and a narrative that balances darkness with humanity
Personally I was a little disappointed by the ending, I don’t think it makes much sense. But overall I liked the premise of the book. If you are expecting instant attraction, steamy scenes, or action-heavy drams this is not the right book. This is more emotional than thrilling, perfect for fans of vampire stories who are tired of clichés.

From the author: 'Unlife is the first book in the Heartsblood series by Selina A. Fenech. If you love brooding vampire men, sassy, food-obsessed heroines, and a happily ever after with a twist, sink your teeth into this fresh and fun vampire.' Such a true and accurate description.
The plot was intriguing and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. The characters drove the storyline and they were so compelling and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. All in all a great start to the trilogy. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

When I started to read Unlife by Selina Fenech I was a bit worried about the story line ending up the same as previous Vampire Romance stories that I have read before. I would reccomend this book to Adult readers who loves a good fantasy romance story. It was a page turner from the start and I cant wait to read what will happen next. Thank you Selina for giving me the oppertunity to be able to read and review this amazing book.

A unique spin on a vampire romance. Instead of the victim becoming a vampire, she changes the vampire to human. Initially he holds her prisoner only later to set her free. Now free, she proceeds to look for him everywhere she goes. Owen is a brooding but sensitive guy, a foodie, and billionaire. Kitty is an out of work struggling actress, a foodie, and a bit small-town sweetheart of a girl.
I enjoyed this story. It was well written, entertaining, with interesting characters. I like that it did not follow the typical vampire romance storyline. Narration was good.

Kaitlyn is an aspiring actress but not getting much work. Her agent sends her to a LARP for some extra money. Everyone is dressed as vampires. She plays along. One of them she is not so sure about. She gets bitten and awakes not knowing where she. Owen got a little carried away with her. He is going to keep her. Kaitlyn tastes of strawberries. As some time goes on she gets to know about his life. Something is happening to him and he's not sure what. Find out what happens to Owen and Kaitlyn. Good read
This is one of those stories where I wanted a book but had no idea what I wanted to read. Foregoing my usual rule about staying away from books illustrated with a skull on the cover, I chose this book and bought it. I avoided the book simply because of it's cover for a few weeks. But then, I opened the book. In two days I read it and am glad to hear of a continuation of Owen and Kaitlynn's story.
Kaitlyn 'Kitty' French is a struggling actress attempting to make a life on the B list movies her agent finds her. When said agent books her for a "LARP" night in a club pretending to be a helpless victim for vampires, Kitty is fed up. However, she doesn't really have much of a choice if she wants to eat. Owen Raine comes across Kitty in the club and is hooked on her blood immediately. Therefore, he decides to keep her and takes her away to his home. Over time, Kitty softens him and begins to learn more about Owen the man instead of Owen the vampire.
If you're looking for a vampire book with a bit of a twist, this is the book for you!
I have loved Selina Fenech's books for many years now, so I jumped at the chance to review this one and it did not disappoint. This book had me turning pages to see what would happen next. Kitty is a kidnapped actress, who thought she was just going to do a simple job, now she's fighting for her life. I had to keep reading to see how the situation would twist and turn. This is part of a series, but the ending isn't a cliffhanger. Loved it!.

Sadly the best thing about this book is the cover art.
I like me a good vampire novel now and again. I sometimes need a supernatural fix and vampires are some of my favorites. Mostly I picked up this book because it fit my "U" requirement for my ABC countdown.
I thought the premise was interesting, but there was too much Stockholm Syndrome and "seriously, really?" going on in this book for me. It wasn't my kind of vampire novel unfortunately.
