I had it all.
The rich parents, the top school, the girl and the best friend.

I use that term loosely now. Best friend.

The best friend that couldn't wait to stab me in the back and take what was mine without a single glance back.

But in this chaos, I found my light in my darkest days.
I needed her more than she could ever know.

I am here to tell my story, to tell you what really happened when I was left behind with the monsters.

I am scarred, I am broken, I am bruised.
But I am a soldier, a warrior, a fighter.
And it's my turn to be heard.

Please be advised that this book is only suitable for 18+ due to mature themes throughout. This book deals with PTSD and also talk of suicide.

I really don’t know what to write about this story, especially for its second half...
I think this book and I were not the perfect match at all.

Chase was a soldier who had been brutally tortured and after he returned home he had PTSD and a lot of demons to overcome.
The thought of ending his life was on his mind and his recovery was very hard.

His story was not easy to read yet his reactions were very well portrayed, it had twists and turns, filled with strong and heavy feelings and suspense.
I could feel his struggle and what he was going through!

The suspenseful side of the plot was not properly and sufficiently developed, and the new character who was the villain in the story appeared out of nowhere and made things even more complicated.
The way things resolved towards the end was messy and not clear, and everything was wrapped up quickly. As if the author was in a haste to end the story.

After I reached The End, there was a footer asking if the reader was Intrigued to find out who the three secondary characters were and read their books!! 😱
Shouldn’t be a note in the blurb about the existence of previous books??? 😤
Possibly, it would have made my reading easier!!! 😤😤

This is the first book I've read by Rose, and has someone who's lost someone to suicide she wrote it thoughtfully and beautifully.
Meet Chase the veteran facing ptsd daily and hard and his beautiful girlfriend Robyn.
Read Chases story of recovering and facing his demons.
There's so many twists and turns in this book and secrets i loved it.
Well done Ashlee it was great and can't wait to read more of your work.

It was amazing. So many twists & turns that I didn’t see coming.

Chase broke my heart. The angst & emotion in this is heartbreaking. Also, some lovely little surprises too, but no spoilers here. I am keeping quiet so you can read & experience this fabulous book for yourself.

description

English:
"Tortured Hero" by Ashlee Rose is a standalone book, but I think it is preferable to read "Promise Me" to know this story and thus situate you in the environment in which the characters are involved.

Chase Sawyer is back, and seeing how his best friend has stolen part of that life he had is heartbreaking. He will try to be the person who was full of happiness before he left for the army, but his scars and fears are still present. He has no other option except leave to find himself and not hurt those he loves the most.

I started this book not knowing what I was going to find in it. I also didn't want to know in-depth because I knew this book would be devastating, and it was going to provoke a lot of feelings for me throughout the book. And it did. I don't want to make any spoilers or talk about the plot too much because it is a book that impacts the first page and is very touching.

It's a book about overcoming a broken person and who has to put herself back together to be able to live happily with the people she loves and who love her the most.

I will always love you, Robyn. Enjoy your life, be free my angel. Find someone who deserves you, because I don’t. I don’t deserve you, and you deserve so much more than me. ~ Chase Sawyer

You suffer as he experiences everything he has been through, and you are thankful that certain characters are there to help him. They are all family. I'm grateful to hear from each of them again. I love them dearly.

One of those books that the more you read, the more you feel a closeness with the main character. Partly you don't want to finish it, the typical book that if there were a thousand pages, you would read them without complaint.

Tortured Hero is Chases story and the title is perfect for his book. I was super excited to start this, I’ve been wanting more Chase and to know more about him and what he’s been through so I couldn’t wait to dive in.

I struggled a bit at the start of Chases story. I didn’t have the instant connection that I was expecting to have with the characters and it did take me a little while to really get into this book. It was definitely a case of it’s me and not the book, I was distracted and struggling to concentrate which didn’t help at all . Once I’d hit the quarter mark it changed and that’s when I started to feel more of a connection with the characters and really started to get invested in the story.

Chases story isn’t always easy to read, he’s been through some truly heartbreaking things in the past and seeing how much he struggled really did hurt. He’s fighting his demons and there were times I did wonder if he was going to win the battle. His love for Robyn is what keeps him going, pushes him to want to be a better man and I was desperately hoping he’d get his own, much deserved, HEA after all he’d been through.

I can’t even put into words how amazing Tortured Hero was but I will try my best..

Warning this book talks about sensitive topics of PSTD and suicide attempt so read at your own risk!!

I was lucky to receive a ARC copy of Tortured Hero in exchange for a honest review!
……………………………………………………………
Ever since reading promise me i have been waiting for Chase’s story and Ashlee Rose did not disappoint!! I personally think this is her best book yet. It is so honest, real and raw!!

I thought She did Chase justice with his story. As i have witnessed PTSD first hand. She didn’t skim over how traumatizing PTSD can be for both the person dealing with it and the family.

While this book can be a standalone if you read all of Ashlee Roses other books you will see a lot of familiar names. While I already loved Carter and Xavier i love them even more now.

I cried, I laughed, I held my breath…..Chase and Robyns love with-stood the hard times. While Chase is being helped by Carter and even more Xavier! I absolutely loved how so many beloved characters came together In this book with one common goal, to help Chase with his demons.

Even tho Chase has so many people on his side, he has to realized that he Is the one that needs to want to change!

This book deserves so much more than 5 stars!!!

While its not the steamiest book of hers, honestly i didn’t even care because of how good the plot was. I was more Into following Chases journey than anything else. But just know there is some steam!!!

After reading my review I honestly don’t think i did Tortured Hero justice with my words, because it is simply too amazing for words. So if you can handle the trigger warnings I 100% recommend this book!!!
~I’m sick of the nightmares, i am sick of feeling like two different people. I just want to be me again. I want the old Chase back.

ARC Review

Yeah, turns out I was not ready for this one. This was my first book by Ashlee Rose, and it definitely will not be my last!

I just feel like there aren't enough powerful words to describe this. Tortured Hero is current and relevant, it's raw, honest, emotive and sympathetic.

I'm always in awe of writers who possess the talents of taking such sensitive topics and making their stories hauntingly beautiful. Ashlee you completely nailed it, it flowed effortlessly.

Our poor tortured hero, Chase, is suffering heavily with PTDS, depression and anxiety. This book deals with a great deal of triggering topics such a suicide and overdosing. But alongside that, it also covers off facing your demons and overcoming them. So yes as much as this book will get you right up in your feels, (as in, make sure you have some tissues at the ready) its also super humbling and reassuring too.

Robyn is such a great FMC, she's patient, loyal, understanding and strong. The love between her and Chase is so pure! I loved the flashbacks to when they were in school and falling head over heels for each other!

The actual plot of this book was amazing, the twists and turns in it I did not see coming at all! The suspense element was spot on, and the characters I wasn't feeling overly positive about initially did end up doing a full 180 on me!

Ashlee this was just fantastic! Thank you for writing this!

A beautiful dramatic story that tugs at your heart and makes you just want to hug Chase for the entire story. I enjoyed this book even though it wasn’t in all senses a romance. This is Chase’s story of overcoming his demons to welcome love back into his life after trauma.
I like the little twists that helped him realise he deserved love and seeing characters from Ashlee’s previous books in this made me swoon. It can be read as a standalone but is better if you’ve read the rest of the authors books. I definitely did not see that twist at the end coming. I would have liked a bit more story after that before the epilogue but otherwise this was a great read.

I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

This is the book I have ever read where the main character suffers from severe PTSD.
Ashlee wrote it in such a compassionate way and I could really feel the emotion and torture that Chase was experiencing. It had me so upset with what he was going through and I just wanted to reach out to him!
This book needs to be read as it’s hard to put into words how good this is and I’m not giving away any plot or spoilers! Only saying that amongst all the heartbreak there is also happiness you don’t expect!

Go read this, you won’t regret it if you met Chase in Promise Me.

I have heard nothing but amazing things about Ashlee Rose's work. This is my first read of hers, and I'm definitely planning to read more of her work. Tortured Hero is an emotional and heavy read; there are sensitive subjects mentioned in this book. In turn, this can be unsettling for some readers to read. Tortured Hero is navigated from Chase's perspective; his story, his every day battle with PTSD and his demons.  Its refreshing to read from a hero's perspective. However, its also dual POV. Robyn is Chase's girlfriend, more than anything she wants to be there for him, help Chase get through his trauma. It's definitely a turbulent journey for Chase and Robyn's relationship. The storyline beautifully was written, I loved how it unravelled towards the second half of the book. Chase took the first step towards healing his wounds. Accepting that he had a problem, and in order to move on he needed to it address it. And the next step was forgiveness. Chase began to let go all of his rage and pain, to forgive the people who are closest to him. It was definitely a heart felt read.

Chase suffers PTSD. Chase was a soldier, while serving his country he lived through a horrific incident. In turn, Chase hasn't fully recovered; he constantly has nightmares and flashbacks. When Chase accidentally physically hurts his girlfriend Robyn, he leaves Robyn, thinking she deserves so much more,  someone who isn't broken or haunted with his past. This incident pushes Chase over the edge. When Chase wakes up in hospital, he gets an offer to start over. A chance at rehabilitation in a new place/country and job with a new identity; a clean slate. He leaves everything behind. The path to recovery is not going to be easy for Chase. But he is not going to give up. Chase will do anything to get better, to be reunited with his other half, Robyn.

THIS BOOK. Okay, I will start this by saying please look up trigger warnings. This does contain the main male character suffering from PTSD due to being held captive during his time in the army. This is a spin-off of her standalone Promise Me. This book was so raw and filled with emotion that I had to just keep going to get to the happy ending. Chase struggles with getting his life back to "normal" once he is rescued and returned to his family. He holds a lot of grudges, pain and so much emotion that causes him to struggle heavily. Robyn who is his girlfriend also struggles with how to help Chase and understand what he is going through. This story is so much more than love. This is a representation of how someone can internally battle so many things that cause them to just lose sight of who they are or who they want to be. This is full of angst, heartbreak and lots of shock. I LOVED this book. I highly recommend this to anyone who can handle this type of read. It really puts things into perspective for you.

OMG!!!...this Book was EPIC AWESOME.
This is not a story of romance. Nope absolutely not. This is a journey of a man, Of a tortured man, a fallen soldier, one who suffers from PTSD, an utterly HOPELESS man who wants to end his own life. This is a story of one such man and how he wins his life back.(That is first if he wants to live first) This is by far the best book of Ashlee (definitely a tie between Xavi and Chase) and the twist at the end was just a cherry on top. Every time Xavier’s name came up I was having an internal fangirling moment. The bromance between Xavi and Dipshit was so adorable and I totally enjoyed it. I felt Robyn as more of a side character than an FMC. There was love and connection between them but these aspects took the backstage in the book. This is a must read if you want a broken hero or one with a military background who struggles to reconnect with life.
PS: Read 𝑺𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 and 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝑴𝒆 to understand the story better🖤

Ashlee Rose has done it again. I mean this book, wow this book! I will recommend it to everyone I know.

This book is not your regular romance love book, this is so much more. It has angst and it has triggers about PTSD and suicide. So it's not an easy book to read because it is darker but I have come to love books like this. It gives well written story about Chase Sawyer and his recovery from the trauma that he came home with after being held captive and tortured.

Chase has two choices, to fight his demons or give in to them. He has Robyn by his side but is that enough? Is his love for her enough to make him fight for his life or has he given up? That is where this book starts.

I was looking forward to reading Chase story after I had read the book Promise me and I'm not disappointed. It gives a story about a broken man that has his demons that he needs to fight, not just for his own sake but also for the love of his life and his family.

I don't want to spoil anything cause if you're gonna read just one book this year it should be this one.

Chase was captured in the army and tortured and suffers PTSD and depression whilst battling his demons. Robyn waited for him in the army and is his shining light through everything until Chase and his demons are too much and Carter Cole send Chase off to Aspen to sort himself out..will he let Robyn go in the meantime?

Ashlee once again breaks my heart and I just want to say THANK YOU. She knows how to toy with my emotions and write an absolutely beautiful book that touches some sensitive need to be talked about issues.

Chase goes through a journey of acceptance and forgiveness to conquer his demons.

The MOTHER of plot twists that I was not expecting just threw me a curve ball at the last moment. Just made me love this book even more, I went from clutching my heart to gasping within a few pages.

I love how all the books have some form of link, definitely this one to Savage Love which is a top fave along with Promise Me ❤️

This book…. Oh my god Loved it!!
Before you read this book even tho it’s not a series, I recommend you read “promise me” to understand the back story and then read “savage love” as characters from the appear in this.

After reading “promise me” I knew I need to hear chase’s story and I needed to know what happened and let me tell you i was not ready for this powerful, heartbreakingly beautiful emotional journey.
Chase is a Veteran suffering with ptsd, his story just grips you by the heart and soul. The pain, the fear, the despair chase feels is just heartbreaking, his family can’t get through to him but he won’t allow them, chase has given up he wants to free of the pain but Xavier (savage love) steps in and he comes with his take no bullshit, no filter attitude and he refuses to baby chase and it’s exactly what he needs. There is a brilliant plot twist that I didn’t see coming… it left me shook!
I was so happy for Chase and Robyn getting their happy ending they do deserved it

This whole series is my Roman Empire!❤️

Just wow, going into Chase’s book I thought it was going to told on how his family and love of his life helped him get better and I’m so glad I was wrong.

Seeing Carter and Xavier being a big part of his story made it 100% better, we love a Xavier appearance 😍😍

This book brings, trauma, brutality, revenge, betrayal and love!

Reading this was so informative in a way a lot of people don’t understand different issues people face, I actually felt everything Connor was feeling! The rage, the guilt, wanting to give up and missing his family! My heart really hurt for Chase and everything he had to endure while being in the army🥺

The twists and turns I didn’t see coming in this story, I’ve never gasped or screamed so loud in my life!!!! I was shook to say the least.

I love friendships and family within these books and carter and Xavier just make the books 10000%!

Seeing acceptance, forgiveness, support and love in this story was the best way to end the perfect story! 💖

Read in order to be able to follow the story better 😊

My Review

Beautiful - Tortured- Angsty Ride that you will not be able to put down!

Tortured Hero is a a truly great story! Chase is so broken and at the end of his rope when a stranger steps in an changes him for the better.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish and I can not say enough great things about. This is the 2nd book I’ve read from Ashlee Rose and I can not wait to read more.

Chase is the broken hero, he finally hits the end of his rope an Carter takes a chance and trying to help him through the darkest of times. The characters that come with being plucked into a new country he is faced with his demons head on and the twist an turns that come only want to make him try harder to get back to the man he once was.

Sometimes all it takes is one person to push you to the brink to make you come back to the life you deserve and I think that is what the friends he makes along this path had done for him.

This is such a good redemption story and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to read it.

* I received this book as an ARC read from the author for my honest review.

I thought that I was ready for Chase’s story but I was so wrong and it absolutely broke my heart. Chase suffers from PTSD due to him being held captive during his time in the army. I found the scenes showing his PTSD to be intense, raw, heartbreaking and traumatic.

The majority of the book is narrated through the eyes of Chase but it also features Robyn’s perspective as well. I haven’t read a lot of books that are written from the male characters perspective so I really enjoyed this.

The twists and secrets really blew my mind and I definitely didn’t see them coming. This book was intense, emotionally raw and breathtaking.

I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.

I was really excited to read Tortured Hero by Ashlee Rose and let me tell you this, you don't want to miss it. Go and pre-order that baby now. It's not often books move me to actual tears, but I cried several times during this story. Chase broke me! This poor soul is so tormented, you'd have to have a heart of stone to not be moved. And poor Robyn, she's also put through the ringer whilst being a rock for her man. There are also a few links to previous books by Ashlee, which I loved. I get a kick out of these characters we've met previously all existing in the same world 🤣 I would definitely recommend at the very least reading Promise Me and Savage Love before reading this book, in order to get maximum enjoyment. Bravo Ashlee, I loved it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

You will see how Chase struggles with PTSD and how friends and family are so important in recovery. I will recommend it 100%.
Carter and Xavier! OMG, they will appear and tried to resolve the problem with Chase without knowing how much trouble was coming their way.
Xavier is a beast and so powerful, and my Carter always so available to help. I'm in love again with these characters.

I've got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm kind of mad. Don't get me wrong, I thought this was a complete standalone, but turns out it "can be" interconnected with other author's books. I don't mind reading standalones as long as I know they are standalones and not a can be series. I've read one of the "interconnected books" savage-love-by-ashlee-rose and that book I truly loved! So imagine me reading this one and coming across Xavier's name, I was like what the heck? And then reading some other names that are from other books. Also something very connected to Savage Love happens here that I think you NEED TO KNOW if you read it!

I hope I won't sound like a stupid person, but hear me out.
I've read multiple interconnected series and I loved them all! I also read books which were interconnected but I haven't read the previous once and I loved that as well. BUT each time it was written that it is interconnected and could be read either as a standalone or as a series. Maybe I have missed the "notification" or info about this being connected to other books, but I checked all sites available.

On the other note, let's go to the book.
This book will get 3.5 stars from me.

I liked the book, I liked how Ashlee went into the PTSD side and kind of showed us how it could be for people. It's truly hard and horrendous! Wouldn't wish anyone. Also loved how in this book Chase had to find his way out of his nightmares and had to also find his strength and new way in life. It ain't easy, but with the help and a lot of push from certain people he's going on a "road" to try to righten himself. Not everything is as easy as it seems or not everything is a he thought it was. He has he ups and a whole lot of downs, but we will see if in the end he'll be able to pick himself up for himself and his beloved or if he's going somewhere dark and nonreturnable.

Characters in this book were amazing! I loved them all! Especially for me, I loved seeing Xavier yet again. He's probs my fave of all Ashlee's books, haha! I just love how dark, commanding and fearless he is!

Storyline was well thought-out from the beginning till the end. We have got some "What the heck's", gaping, crying and complete meltdown and epic highs!

I really liked the story, it wasn't exactly my type of tea, but I loved kind of learning more or seeing a side of PTSD.

Love chase and Robyn romance so much and chase has nightmares and PTSD from being kidnapped from the army and love that chase remembers his memory’s of him and Robyn together and chase has a lot of trauma and decide to go to Aspen to work with carter as a security guard at a posh apartment building. Love the spicy scenes between chase and Robyn. Love that chase calls Robyn angel and Robyn wants to help chase with the trauma, his panic attacks. Also carter, Freya, Xavier, royal and their kids appear in this book and while chase is in Aspen he has a new identity known as Enzo smith and not a big fan of Blair who works for carter and when chase is angry he and Blair make out and things get Hester but stopes it in time and I really like that chase was honest with Robyn about what happened with Blair and and Robyn appear in Aspen since she is carrying chase’s baby and I love that chase wants to be a better person for Robyn and there baby on the way and I love it when chase wants to take care of Robyn and chase has flashbacks from the past and someone is after Xavier for revenge and chase saves Xavier’s life in the process. And love the ending with chase family his sprints tanner and Zara, Conor and darcey and there daughter Arabella and darcey is pregnant with their second child, Carter and Freya and their kids, Xavier and royal with their kids and love that they come to Aspen for Christmas and chase propose to Robyn on Christmas Day and chase and Robyn have a baby boy called Rafael and he wants to be a better man for them both. And there were a few twist and turns at the end and I just love reading Ashlee rose books
