A Suitor for the Spurned Mail Order Bride

Rate this book
Anna Dawson thought she had the perfect man. She had the perfect life planned out with her perfect man. She was marrying the town’s most eligible bachelor. Until she wasn’t. Suddenly, on her wedding day, she’s spurned. What’s a girl to do but run away, her head tucked low in shame?

Aniel West’s got a problem. His uncle’s will states that in order to inherit his own parents’ property, Daniel’s got to have a wife before his next birthday. Before his next birthday? There doesn’t seem to be time to find and woo a wife. Until his sisters concoct a plan involving placing an advertisement for a mail order bride.

Seemed like a great idea at the time, but it seems Mother Nature has other plans. No sooner had Daniel collected his mail order bride than an earthquake struck and destroyed the town, sending the two into a head-spinning day of search and rescue. Among all the ravages inflicted on the town, can Daniel and Anna find what they are seeking and rescue their attempts to find love?

Sweet and clean story.
It's a very nice story, but It felt very fast-paced after the earthquake, which made me feel that I was missing pages or paragraphs for the plot to flow really well.
Still a good read

I usually don’t write a review but this book had such glaring errors I can’t help not commenting. It seems the time frame is after the Civil War but conversations and attitudes seem too modern. The family lawyer has 2 different names and seems to easily work for rich Uncle Clarence in NY and the nephew and nieces in Utah. He announces to Daniel his Uncle has died and they must attend the funeral and reading of will the next day…how do they get from Utah to NY in a day? Anna is the spurned bride. Her friend gives her a bridal shower, did they even have those in the 1870’s. She’s not suspicious when her groom to be pays her no attention for 2 months and she lets his mother plan the whole wedding. Is this girl and idiot? Then suddenly when she travels to Utah to meet her new groom she is trained in first aid by her long dead father and confidently helps the injured after a violent earthquake. This makes no sense. The author had a good idea for a story but lost her way and who ever her editors were failed her.

"Where is the pens in there?" (chapter 8, page 49)

A preposterous beginning to the story. Glaring grammatical errors. Redundancy. Whose lawyer is whose? A name shift for a sister.

No defined setting. The uncle lives in a mansion in NYC. The nephew and nieces drive to the funeral and lawyer's office in horse drawn buggy. So they must live near NYC. Then the ad describes the H as Utah bachelor. We'll, that's a jump of some many miles.

While that was some missing needed data, there were many non-essential inclusions.

The intent of the story is nice enough, but is mediocre. If it were reworked a bit and polished, it might have more worth. Get an editor and a proofreader.

Anna thought she had found the perfect man to marry only she gets jilted at the alter and made to look the fool by her ex’s new wife who’s super nasty! She wants away from the town she lives in and when she comes across Daniels ad in the newspaper looking for a bride she’s quick to send him a letter. They correspond back and forth until she moves to Utah to begin her life with him. Once she gets there a huge earthquake shakes the whole town destroying buildings and many people are hurt. Daniel and Anna work together helping the injured or the people who are trapped. I know the title is different but it was a fast read.

The perfect pairing

Anna never expected to arrive in the town of her husband to be Just in time to experience an earthquake! Daniel turns their horses around in a rush to return to town, knowing that everyone will be needed to help.
What a way to start a relationship, fighting to rescue friends and neighbors and save lives! A fast paced, novel filled with the kindness and caring that a close rural community shares. A feel good must read.

Jilted and found new love

Anna was jilted on her wedding day and was devastated. She had to leave Lerner, NY. Daniel's uncle just died and he found out h we had two months to get married or his inheritance would go to charity. His three sisters told him to find a mail order bride. He sent for Anna. The day she articles in Utah there was an earthquake. He was sure she was going to want to to back home but she pitched in helped the injured. Daniel loved how helpful she was and how she told him it wasn't his fault that there was an earthquake on the day she arrived. This is a very nice story with the usual predictable ending. If you want a fast read this is a good book.

Rejected before the wedding

Anna was in the church waiting for her friends to to arrive to help her get ready for her big day. Their was a knock on the door when she opened it was a woman named Nan. Nan proceeded to tell Anna that she wouldn’t be getting married today. Anna is stunned. She decided to leave her home in New York. She found a man who was seeking a mail order bride and sent him a letter. Soon she was on her way to meet him and his sisters. Her first day in town was extreme. Their was an earthquake and she and Mr. West spent their first day together rescuing and treating the injured. Very well written account of the earthquake.

Nice try, but...

The story is sweet but the writer treats the quake as a tornado with a totally ridiculous framework. All rescue first respondents would cringe w these statements. After such devastation sleeping inside is a death wish. Granted some errors are quite humorous like the use of a self adhesive butterfy bandage or the use of "taking a knee" instead of kneeling to speak to a child etc etc. Issues raised were left unresolved and the uneducated bride to be turned out to be an ER nurse because her father had talked about what needed to be done. No training, no experience necessary!!!

Inconsistent and Badly Written

While the plot is interesting, this reads like a first draft, not a professionally written book. There are glaring grammatical mistakes, extraneous information that is unconnected to the plot, inconsistencies such as a character being described as a childhood friend in one place and a newcomer in another, and the story is told, not shown by vivid action. If you are on a budget, do not waste your money on this.

Unrealistic

Mail order bride. Was such a artificial story. Everything unbelievable, the ending even more unbelievable. A good story is a story that could actually happen in real life. No way for this one. She gets duped on her wedding dat. Becomes a mail order bride. Immediately they have everything perfect, exchange I love you within two weeks. Then a baby in 9 months, everything is beautiful! Get real!

Anna Dawson is set to marry a man she feels she can trust until the day of her wedding when his mistress shows up to end the wedding. Anna feels she has no choice but to leave town and decides to answer a mail order advertisement leading her to Utah and Daniel West who must marry or forfeit the family money. Love the chemistry between Daniel and Anna from the start and how they work through a tragedy together and only grow stronger.

This is book one in the Westbound Hearts. Anna was treated horribly by her fiancé and wants to leave town. Daniel needs a bride and quick otherwise he and his family will lose everything. I thought this was a unique story instead of just a slow burn romance. The day the two meet a massive earthquake hits the town. I thought this was a unique take on a mail order bride story. I could have used more romance but still a good read.

Very sweet mail order bride story

Lovely mail order bride story that you can recommend to anyone to read without worrying about the craziness that some authors feel the need to put into their work. Interesting background story about an earthquake in Utah territory and the damage done to the local infrastructure. Nice world building, nice characters, recommended!

Wow the title grabbed me on this book. I had never read this author before. I loved the storyline and the characters. I would have given the review 5 stars but it needs more editing, sentence structure and word usage.
I loved the story and I read it in one sitting and bought the rest of the series to see how it ends.
So I'm now on to Book #2

Left at the Alter

Anna can't wait for her marriage to Shawn. She goes to the church to get ready only to receive a note that Shawn doesn't want to marry her. She applies for a mail order bride and begins a new adventure.
This is a good story, free from any steamy scenes and I recommend this book.

This was a free e-book I got since I like mail order bride stories and marriage of convenience stories....It was a fairly decent read. I liked the characters in it and the plot, but I found the writing style a little off....can't really put into words what I found lacking....but I did like it well enough that I may read another book by this author.

Not much of a story here. I could not figure out where or when the story was set, no real background or description in the writing. Lacking character development and communication between the two main character. Just the barest of emotions.

Loved the book!

Even tho mail order brides stories are usually rather predictable this created more interest and did not go back and forth forever. I read it in a day and would recommend it.

More action than expected

The book started out a little slow. Once it took off it was full of drama and even a little action. It wasn't love at first sight but close. I really enjoyed this one.

A heart warming mail order bride romance!

Strong intelligent women, and a kind intelligent man make a wonderful pair. These two made for a wonderful story to read. Working together during a tragedy helped make them enter their happy ever-after, thank you, Jack.

A better choice

Mail order brides are one of my favorites, I don't know why but they are. Perhaps its the courage it took to step out into the unknown and take a chance on someone and something totally new. This book explores all that, I enjoyed reading it.
