I've read most of Corinne's books and I've loved so many of them, but this has to be one of her best. She really brought the feels, angst, and emotion with You Loved Me Once. This is an addicting and compelling read all about the choices we make that can be wrong even if they're right, and right even if they're wrong.

Serenity is a doctor who has a passion for what she does. After losing her mom to cancer, it solidified that this is what she was meant to do with her life. Now, fourteen years later, she's running her first clinical trial that could change the lives of so many women fighting for their lives (and fertility) with ovarian cancer. With this trial comes a blast from her past and some complications she never saw coming.

Serenity has been a bit standoffish since not only losing her mom, but her college fiancé. She's spent the last few years being casual with another doctor, Westin Grant. Westin is everything and works hard to break down the walls Ren has put up. She swore she'd never let herself fall in love again because she didn't want to experience that heartbreak but Westin doesn't give her much choice. He's pretty incredible.

As I said before this book is about choices. Ren has to make a choice that could effect her career, her relationship, and her world as she knows it. It's a situation I wouldn't want to be in and that choice keeps us on pins and needles seeing how things would work out for her.

I loved watching the growth and changes Serenity made throughout this book. There were so many great scenes with her family and of course, my favorite part about this was the romance. Though the romance isn't always first and foremost in this story it plays a large part. Westin is most definitely my favorite hero of Corinne's (sorry, Mark) and he was incredible, patient, and so loving. This story touched me and made me think, feel, and fall in love. Highly recommend this one!

... In the world of medicine and love.

Damn. What we have here is a real gem. A remarkably remarkable story about love, loyalty, and sacrifices. Each of us has the freedom to choose. You can always choose the right and you can choose the wrong however you feel like. But what if you chose the wrong one because you believe that it was the right thing to do? It might be wrong in the eyes of the other people but you know that it was an act of love from the depths of your heart. Open your senses and let Corinne Michaels tell you a story.

Note: This is a contemporary romance.

"You loved me once, and I hope that someday, you find someone worthy of all you have to give.”

Serenity shut out herself from romantic relationships after losing someone she loved fourteen years ago. After her last heartbreak, she vowed to never let herself attached with another man again. Serenity was a gynecological oncologist whose greatest mission was to find cure for ovarian cancer. She got her inspirations from her mother who died from the said condition.

Westin was a neurosurgeon at the same hospital Serenity was working. He was in a "beneficial" relationship with her for two years now. Westin wanted more. But because he was Westin, he waited two years for her. He showed her along the way that he was sincere and he was different from the man who left her fourteen years ago. When Serenity eventually started to lower her walls and let Westin in, someone who could ruin everything was back. But it was up to Serenity to decide what she's willing to risk. Her heart and her career or the person who needed her the most.

“You know, when a man truly loves a woman, he’ll never move on. We all have that one person. Sometimes we marry them, spending an eternity trying to prove we’re good enough for her. Other times, we lose them and spend our lives wondering how we were so stupid to let that woman go."

Before you think of the worst, there is no emotional or physical cheating between the main characters or any characters. Also, there is no smut, sorry to disappoint. No problem though, their chemistry will save your day. If you are looking for stories with soulful characters, riveting storyline, and serene ending. Plus, angst-fest, nerve-racking, and definitely capable of making your pretty eyes bloodshot, I promise you this is your book.

Now, let's have a conversation regarding our main characters. Serenity was a strong and determined woman. Every choice she made was selfless and I adored her so much for that. Serenity defines life itself and that family is always first no matter what. Westin, on the other hand, was a deeply devoted and patient man. The fact that he'd been faithful to Serenity for two years without any reason to solidified his character for me. He was a man of showing not only telling.

“I would die for you, Ren. Do you know that?”

Moreover, I would like to include Bryce in the conversation. He's that important in the story and I really want to say my thoughts and feelings about him. Frankly, I had a hard time liking him. I blamed him for everything that happened between him and Serenity. I found his reasons ridiculous and immature. I hated him for not waiting. He simply had to wait. It was simple as that. Serenity's mother was fighting for cancer at that time and he should have supported her decisions by waiting, but sadly he didn't. He said he truly loved her but it wasn't the real love kind of thing. Regardless, Bryce was young and his actions was absolutely understandable. Eventually, I liked him at the end.

“Don’t ever allow someone else the power to break you. The man you love, the one you share your heart with, should always treat it with care. He shouldn’t forsake it.”

It was emotional watching these characters developed, especially Serenity. Her journey to finding herself was heartwarming. It was an utter joy seeing her having closure with the past and forgave herself and had total acceptance.

Lastly, without the other characters, this book would not end up like this. The worth-mentioning names are: Mrs. Whistley and her son John for showing us the importance of time. Allison and Bryce, for showing us that there is always hope, just smile, and second chances in love is without limits. Rich and his wife Ester for showing us what the real love kind of thing is. And Mick and Everton, Serenity's father and younger brother, for showing us that it may be impossible to recover from the greatest loss of our lives, but it will always be possible if we are together.

Overall, I extremely loved the book. Every character in this story are three-dimensional and each serves a purpose. Gorgeous writing Corinne Michaels style and unique storyline. This story should not be missed.

I highly recommend this to those who loves romance with life.

“I will love you, until my last breath,”

Trigger Warning: Vivid depiction of a death of loved ones.

She loves her job and is passionate about it. So much so that her personal life kind of takes a back seat to her professional life. She's been casually seeing a neurosurgeon at her hospital for the last two years. They've kept things easy with no expectations. Over the years she's learned the hard way feelings make you vulnerable, so she's not emotionally available. Westin Grant is a great guy, and they have an agreement that works well for them, but when he suddenly changes the rules will she finally let her guard down and open her eyes to what's right in front of her?

While busy balancing her career and romantic life one moment changes her path and makes her question everything. When the past and present collide everything she cares about is put on the line. Soon it feels like the weight of the world rests on her shoulders. She's doubting herself as she is met with impossible decisions and situations. She's conflicted and in over her head as her life feels like it's falling apart. With a job that is both rewarding and at times devastating she's pushed outside her comfort zone and feels reckless. As her world gets more complicated will what doesn't destroy her make her stronger?

"I will love you, until my last breath"

It's been a really long time since I've been this torn over a book. I always prepare for the worst when it comes to Corrine's novels because I know that she doesn't shy away from the hard stuff. She has made second chance romances her bitch, and it shows.

It wasn't until 20% in that my heart took the first drop. Corinne likes to put her characters through hell and it wasn't until about 50% way through that I knew where my heart lied. But I will admit that I wavered back and forth about what choices Ren had to make. Now being a romance reader for years, there was a clear cut path for Ren to go one way, especially given the circumstances, or there could be the harder choice. The kind of choice I don't think everyone will love, but what fits for the character.

Thankfully, that aligned with what I wanted for Ren as well. That last quarter about did me in because Ren's life was beginning to crumb before her. She has shielded herself for years so that she could stay safe, but she was in the most danger and losing everything.

I almost have to dissociate from my normal self when I read Corrine's books because I know that she likes to bring on the heartbreak. I'm definitely an empathetic reader. An although her novels always tear me apart, they always put me back together.

From New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels comes a heartbreakingly beautiful standalone story about letting love in.

If you are on the fence to read this then don't be.  If the words woman's fiction scares you don't let it. This book is a Corinne Michaels book through and through. I knew it would be emotional but nothing prepared me for this story but I'm glad I took the chance.

Julie Whelan put so much energy and emotion in this story bringing Serenity to life. She was amazing and couldn't have been more perfect to narrate this.

This story was heartbreakingly beautiful. It made me cry, broke my heart but then Corinne but it back together. This is a unique storyline and I'm so glad Corinne took a chance and published this book.

ARE RULES MEANT TO BE BROKEN?

YOU LOVED ME ONCE is a story that demands an answer to that question. And once rules are broken who must pay the consequences. The making of a choice to save one person over another is something the majority of people don't have to do daily. But for those in the medical field, they are faced with that reality.

Serenity, a gynecologist oncologist, is running a drug trial that has the potential to help a lot of women. Everything was going well until it wasn't. Her ex showing up with his wife who is part of the trial makes for a messy time of decisions.

Serenity is faced with many choices once she realizes she knows someone involved in the trial. But that is only the start of a hard decision she'll have to make. And with each choice, she makes there's the potential for a major ripple effect.

Westin, a neurosurgeon, is a in relationship with Serenity. He's ready for a full commitment but Serenity is scared of having her heart broken so she holding him at a distance. When things with Serenity's job start to go sideways she holds onto the idea that Westin is better off without her.

Serenity's journey created a lot of stuff to think about in regards to ethical decisions that needed to be made. Lots of questions beyond the are rules meant to be broken? come into play as the story continues on. Would you stand by the person who broke them? Is a person deserving of a second chance at life, love, and happiness?

I usually can expect a certain type of Corrine Michaels book, but on this one? This one is something else, on every single level. You Loved Me Once is a once in a life time kinda book that pushed boundaries and rung every single emotion out of my body.

As always, I will never get tired of this authors work. Her writing in general is out of this world, and I know I shouldn’t be surprised that she ups the ante every single time, but daggone it, You Loved Me Once is something special and the writing was phenomenal.

Michaels took such a complex storyline and complex main character and crossed every ‘T’ and dotted every ‘I’. I mean, talk about great world building. The development was flawless, set at the perfect pace. The depth pretty much carved out my soul to the point of no return, (but in a good way). The dialogue was rich and beautiful. The slow uptake onto ‘more’ than the spicy times showcased how these characters really feel. It shows that nothing worth having doesn’t come without its ups and downs.

I loved the main characters. They were simple, but they were not. The devotion that both Serenity and Westin had showed through every word, every move and made them feel so authentic. They had truly beautiful hearts both professionally and personally.

I foresee, You Loved Me Once being my favorite book by this author, “ Until My Last Breathe.” and to be perfectly clear, Shonda Rhymes ain’t got nothing on Corrine Michaels.
** I recommend this book.

Everything this woman writes is freakin fantastic! I especially loved it because of the medical references since I’m a nurse. Serenity swears she’s done with love because of a bad breakup, ends up deciding to give love another chance, only to have history walk back into her life… in a hard, heartbreaking way. The triangle between Westin and Bryce is hard for Serenity to navigate through because she’s left treating the last person she’d ever want to and brings many conflict of interests. This book was amazing, heartbreaking, heartwarming all in one.

5 heartwrenching, beautiful stars!

OMG this book! An angsty, heartwrenching, heartbreaking, but absolutely beautiful story with a romance that stole my heart. This book had me feeling all the feels, and I loved it.

This book is marketed as ‘Women’s Fiction’, I’m thinking that probably means that there’s less sex than a usual romance novel, but it’s still a passionate, romantic book, with all of the emotion and intensity that I expect from a Corinne Michaels novel.

Serenity is a talented and highly regarded surgeon whose work is her life. After experiencing a traumatic heartbreak in her 20s, she’s kept her life free of complications, and has no time for a relationship, and no place for love in her life. But she does have a friend with benefits – fellow surgeon, Westin, who is a stellar lover, and a companion who understands the pressures of her work, and though she suspects he wants more, he’s never pushed her for more than she is ready for.

He’s really perfect. There are times when I hate myself, and right now is one. I wish I were a bright-eyed girl who believed that love could save your soul.

Serenity gives all of herself to her patients, and the hospital where she works, and she’s about to embark on the highlight of her career – a clinical trial for a treatment that she has designed which will change the course of treatment for her patients, and will hopefully save lives. Her life is ordered, her career is fulfilling, and she’s at no risk of having her heart shattered again, and that’s the way she likes it. And then her past comes crashing into her present, sending her defences tumbling. It feels like her life is rocked completely off its axis, and she’s forced to face all of the emotion she’s been hiding from for so many years.

I’d rather never feel those emotions again. I’d rather heal people, make things better and erase the damage life can cause instead of inviting it in.

At the same time, after years of slowly breaking through Serenity’s walls, Westin wants more, and oh, my heart, the man is pure perfection! He’s patient, gentle and understanding (and sexy as all hell), and he knows just how much to push, I had full-on heart eyes over him, and I freaking love him!

“I’m doing what I should’ve done a long time ago,” he says, watching my reaction … “I want more and I’m tired of waiting for you to be ready.”
I gasp as the fire burns in his gaze. “What if I’m not ready now?”
His lips turn into a sinful smile. “Then I guess I’ll have to make you ready.”

“It’s been two years, and I’ve been a patient man. You’ve got issues with love, and I get that, but I’m not him, Serenity. I’m not the guy that fucked your head up. I’ve been the guy who held you when you cried, supported you, and if you don’t see that we’re more than fuck buddies…I don’t know what else to say.”

There are moments of such sweetness between these two, that I read with a huge smile on my face, my heart full and excited to see things so effortlessly changing between them. But at the same time, Serenity is spiralling as she tries to keep on top of her emotions. And through it all, Westin is by her side.

“If I fall, are you going to catch me?”
His eyes close, and when he opens them again, there’s not a trace of doubt. “Always.”

But one devastating moment will change everything – risking everything that Serenity holds dear, professionally and personally. It wasn’t a huge surprise where the story was going, but there are definitely shocks along the way that I wasn’t expecting, and there were moments where I had no clue what was going to happen. It’s all so well written, I could absolutely understand where Serenity was at, and my stomach churned with anxiety for her, and I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it, desperate to know how it was all going to end.

I felt so much reading this book. I ached for these characters, and there were scenes that had me sobbing at the gutwrenching pain of it all. But the hurt puts you right into the heart of Serenity’s life as our brave heroine faces her past, her present, and her fears, and fights for her future. Her growth as a character is really satisfying to watch.

The side characters are also fantastic – from Westin to Serenity’s family, friends and patients, I came to deeply care for these characters, and again, I felt so much for them.

Through all of the drama, the love story is a key focus, and is beautifully woven into the story, and the different plotlines blend seamlessly to create an intense and emotional read that owned my heart in all the ways.

Even with all of the drama, there is blessedly a happy ending, and I finished this book with a healed heart. It’s an intense read, and so beautifully written. I loved it.

5 stars

P.S. This book is absolutely a standalone, but I would love to see a follow-up book. There is a character just screaming to have their story told, and I’d love to see them get their HEA.

An Advanced Reader Copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. That is my first thought when I think about this book, in addition to how much this story gutted me. ( and I rarely get emotional when reading a book). Serenity is an physician who wants to save the world to try make up for the loss of her mom. She also lost her first love during that time and her coping mechanism was to focus on medicine and her career. Westin (also a focused physician) and Serenity have been dating for awhile but she hasn’t wanted to move the relationship forward. Everything starts to change when her old love is thrust back into her life. This is a gut wrenching story of love, loss and trying to find your way out of darkness, but there is also hope. As a medical professional, I will comment that Corinne took some liberties on what would actually happen in a medical trial, but it was not different that what would be seen in a medical drama. Do not miss this book!

Only got 30% in but what in the world am I reading??!

I have ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE to read about the heroine's past relationship ESPECIALLY in the format of several flashbacks AS WELL AS the heroine still having feelings for her ex whilst we are supposedly rooting for her to be with her f*ck buddy

No thank you...this is a shitstorm waiting to happen and that doesn't even include the messed up ethics going on with her job

I am more angry than I realised about this. I feel deceived. The blurb is missing key information

I'm finding it so hard to discover contemporary romances that don't make want to throw my kindle against the wall

“I love you. Until my last breath.”

Holy crap. My stomach dropped 5 chapters in.

You Loved Me Once was not quite what I was expecting, but Serenity's story was an emotional rollercoaster of a professional struggle. What is selfish and what is selfless? Is it morally okay to do something ethically wrong when your intentions are in the right place? This story had my thoughts all over the place as Serenity's past collided with her present during the biggest professional moment of her medical career.

You Loved Me Once definitely falls under the category of women's fiction rather than contemporary romance. There is a romance between Serenity and another doctor, Westin. And her past failed engagement -- which broke apart at the same time as her mother's death from cancer when Ren was in college -- overshadows everything she does. It's why she keeps Westin at a distance, why she's so determined to be successful with this medical trial. But it is Ren's professional struggle that is at the core of this story. I loved the choices she had to make, and her journey is full of anger, passion, elation, and tears as she finally comes to her happily ever after.

All of the characters were richly developed, and Ren has great, deep connections with her father and brother, an elderly patient, and young Allison, one of the patients in her trial. My heart broke so many times during this story! And where I thought Ren's story was going to go is not where it ended up... and I was pleasantly surprised that the unexpected happened!

Narrator Julia Whelan was brilliant in bringing Serenity's story to life.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Corinne did it again with another amazing story with ALL THE FEELS!! There are moments you truly feel for the characters as they struggle with life.

Serenity is an awesome character to read! She has the strength and drive we all love in a character. But to see her struggle with her own demons and makes her even more of a person you will love. I love it when the characters battle with themselves on things.

She has this amazing job and loves it as much as she loves to breathe. She works so hard to be this amazing doctor and she has a drive to to be the best.
Serenity also has the love of a great man but can't let go of her past to truly let herself go.

Even though this is only from the female POV, I still loved it!!

Westin is the kind of man we all want to have, supportive, loving, caring, and successful with whatever he does. He is the perfect match for a character like Serenity and you hope they find love in the end!

I couldn't stop reading this book once I started. I read it in a matter of hours. I had to know how it all ended!!

I have so many thoughts & feelings about You Loved me Once. It’s not your average swoony romance story. It’s a real, gritty & raw story about life. Serenity is faced with so many choices & challenges with her patients, family and self. Her struggle is real, raw & beautiful. She finds her true self and in the journey heals her heart and finds the man who was always there.

I was lucky enough to listen to the audio first & was blown away by Julia’s performance. As with all Corinne books be prepared to cry but trust me it’s so worth it. 💓

Honestly, if there was a way to give this book more than 5-stars, I would.

This is Corinne Michaels best work yet and my new favorite. I believe this one my stay on the top of favorites list for a long time.

I listened to the audio version and I loved Wes and Ren.

I have already purchased me a paperback copy. This one must be added to my collection.

Corinne Michaels really brought her A-game in You Loved Me Once! This story was absolutely fantastic! It might be considered women's fiction, but that did not bother me at all. It was just a beautiful and emotional story that had quite a few gut-punches that I wasn't sure I would recover from., and I was hooked on every moment of Serenity's story. It was one of those stories that truly made me think - would I have done the same thing if I was in Serenity's position? Maybe, maybe not. But she did what she felt was right and there's nothing wrong with that.

This truly is just a wonderful story with one of the swooniest heroes in Westin, and while it may not have the steam factor that some of Corinne's other stories have, you will love it just the same.

You Loved Me Once is truly brilliant and this is Corinne Michaels at her best. I was spellbound by this heartbreaking, beautiful, deep and thought provoking book and I can’t let it go. It’s realistic on so many levels, it’s soul crushing yet hopeful, the heartfelt moments really touches home and the intensity of it all nearly did me in. My emotional level was at an all time high and I lost count on the amount of tears that I shed. They’re times when this book can be complex, unbearable and frustrating but it’s worth it and so much more than what I thought it was going to be.

And while I certainly appreciate the storyline, I don’t care for the heroine, Serenity Adams. However, this in no way hinders or takes anything away from the story. She just isn’t my cup of tea. To date, this my favorite Corinne Michaels book and it’s one of my favorite books of 2021. I strongly recommend having tissues, a few alcoholic beverages and a do not disturb sign when reading it. Again it’s definitely worth it.

This book was so unexpected because it starts out a bit slow but I kept reading and at about the half way point it becomes a complete roller-coaster of emotion that I could not put down, wow not what I expect but in a good way.

And I really have to add this, one of the characters uses the same endearment with his wife as he did with his ex girlfriend, so tacky of him new girl new endearment it's not that hard.

Oh I’m so glad Corinne decided to publish this story. Absolutely fantastic and so typically “Corinne” in every way.

She got my tears, as expected, on a number of occasions…. So much so I was a sobbing mess!

The characters of this story were simply amazing. I could feel the emotion pouring from the pages, their passion, their beliefs, trust, and pure determination…

The secondary characters were also simply fantastic, but again, the emotions that ran alongside this had me going.

At one point and as the story progressed I did wonder which route the events and storyline may follow. But I’m so pleased with the way everything turned out.

This was an amazing romantic love story, but with grit. It was a complete page turner and I devoured it!

Hands down...a must read for 2021! I have been a fan of Corinne Michaels from the beginning of her writing journey, and each book by her is a great read. But this story, y'all this story is hands down her best one yet! It's so different from any story I have read in a while. It's not your typical trope, with your predictable storyline and ending. It has twists and turns, and tough decisions and tough love. And the heartbreaks...goodness the heartaches this one causes. I stayed up late, and got up early to finish this one. Do yourself a favor and do the same...you will not regret it!

I received an arc for a honest review.

DEFINITELY ONE OF MY TOP READS OF 2021!!

This book deserves all the stars!! It gave me all the feels, and it gutted me to the core. I was so scared diving into this book because everything Corinne writes is always so emotional especially when she said Grey's Anatomy meets This is Us. I honestly can't keep track on how many times I've cried. There were times when I wanted to cheat and read the ending first, BUT I didn't do it. Lol It hurts but keep on reading.

Serenity tries to help everyone around her, but she herself was still struggling trying to move on from a past that broke her. She lost her mom to cancer so she just have her father and a brother who is struggling with life. Serenity and Westin were both doctors. They were definitely friends with benefits, but Westin started to want more. Ugh. I LOVE WESTIN so much!!! He's definitely goals! But Serenity just wouldn't gave in to Westin. Ugh. I was so irritated of her at times, but I see where she's coming from. Makes me feel so bad for both of them. My heart!!!

But what would Serenity do when her broken past came knocking on her door?

You need this book in your life!!! HIGHLY, HIGHLY Recommended.

NOW LIVE!! Go buy it, you won’t regret it!

You Loved Me Once is an emotional journey through love, loss and finding oneself. It is heartbreaking as much as it is heartwarming.

I really connected with Ren as a character - she was likable and has struggles in life just like anyone else. The angst between her and Bryce was palpable!! And what a circumstance to find themselves face-to-face in again!!

But the character that made this book for me was Wes. His strength, unwaivering devotion to his job, patients and to Ren and his utmost loyalty and patience with everything makes him the ultimate book boyfriend. By goodness, I was rooting for them HARD!

I am so pleased that Corinne decided to go ahead and publish this story - it is a definite favourite as you just simply get lost in the words and the world Corinne has written for you as is so easy to do with her books.

When Corrine releases a new book, sign me up. Let me be the first to say, she did not disappoint!! This book is amazing. Its heartbreaking and heart powering individually and at the same time. Renn is a smart string will women g willing to go the extra mile doing the work she loves. Renn learns to truly find closer for herself while also finding what truly is important to her. West is the underdog that I truly was rooting for the whole time. When you find a string man willing to fight for you, hang on to him. Great read!!!

I am sitting here absolutely stunned.

This book was phenomenal. Wasn’t what I expected one bit. There was a few moments I literally gasped. I could not put this book down.

The emotional that Corinne Michaels put into this book, you seriously feel every single one.
I’ll be the first to admit, I haven’t cried in one of her books in a while….. yeah that all changed with Serenity’s story.

This is one of those books that will stay with you. You will be thinking about it long after you complete it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for this one emotional masterpiece!

You Loved Me Once took me on an emotional rollercoaster from the first page and consumed my mind and heart til the last one. Corinne this story was as heartbreaking as it was beautiful and I am so grateful that you wrote and released this book. I feel like everyone can relate to this story in one way or another. We all have that first love, that lost love, that last love and that once in a lifetime love that changes us forever. We also have that person, whether it be our soul mate, family member or friend that we can’t, but have to live without. I shed a few tears and I felt like I cleansed my soul a little bit. You Loved Me Once is filled will hope, heartbreak, betrayal, forgiveness and so much strength and perseverance that I believe it will change every person that reads it! It’s absolutely breathtaking and a story I will never forget.
