Book: 1CM Origin by Kim Eun-ju Rating: 4/5 Duration: May 12, 2023
sharing an airplane read! I read this while on the way home from Hong Kong. it's a light and refreshing read, it's a book about how we can improve at least 1cm or 1% everyday. it talked about imperfections, accepting life's realities and challenges, and how we can make the most of life! among all the Korean books I got, this is one of my favorites! adding sa thread 3 of my fave pages, it's so cute ❤️
Cute! Loved the illustrations the most. It's a mishmash of musings and life reflections, spurred by lots of imaginative metaphors. Some bits I found quite dated and heteronormative while some, I found quite progressive, thought-provoking, and genuinely moving. This is something I would have probably enjoyed reading as a growing-up teen.
My first impression while reading the book was, 'WOAH! THIS BOOK IS SO CREATIVE AND COLORFUL!' You know that feeling when you find a book cover that is so cute you want to buy it right away? Well, that's how I got lured in. Nevertheless, I don't regret buying this book. I love how the author was able to convey his/her words so effectively. It also motivated me to strive for self-improvement.
Now, you might be wondering why I rated it 6.5. Well, the reasons for this rating are:
1. It only took me 2 hours to finish the whole book, which I didn't like. I enjoy reading a lot, and I usually absorb what I read. I wanted to connect more with the author's thoughts, but I couldn't find the connection I was looking for.
2. It's too colorful, cute, and flashy. I would have loved to read more about the inspiring ideas and wisdom of the author, but the majority of the pages contain cute drawings.
I believe there's much to learn from the author of this book, Kim Eun Ju. I genuinely hope that her next book will be filled with inspiring ideas and motivational guidance. Nonetheless, Kim Eun Ju has done an admirable job! I still recommend this book if you are seeking for self-help books. 🫶🏻
"Believe that you can do something for the world. Seeing that you make this world a better place is the most invaluable thing in life. Everything has a purpose—your talents, your taste, your situations. Discover your purpose, keep it in mind, and take action."
A warm read. Some things said didn't make sense to me now, but I will keep coming back to it with a belief that somehow, some day, it will make sense—and it will be beautiful. :)
Saying "I'Il wait until I'm 100% ready” means "I won't ever start."
I’ve meant to read this one slowly, one page a day, only to be pressured to finish it in 1 hour. This book is heading to its new home! There are lovely passages and random activities. But I believe it was mainly designed for reflection, maybe after a long day, and not to be devoured quickly.
Another self-help book to find our truly self. Different with 1 cm between you and me which has long theoritical about the topic, this book is more simpler. I like this better. The illustration is cute too!
The content of this book is very spot on, I somehow regret I finished it immediately. It was a nice journey, especially the last part. I would love to read the sequel of this book!
I read the English version and some of the translation doesn't even make sense to me so maybe, this is better if read in Korean and I might try that if I get a Korean copy.
I have been obsessing with these Adarna Pop (Apop) Books recently!
I guess his has got to be my favorite of the ones they've published YET. I love books with illustrations in them. And what's fun about this is that this book is for "adulting." Ugh, adulting is hard but we gotta keep moving forward!
I love so many things about this book--apart from the illustrations, which are super cute! I love that it's divided in parts on thinking, loving, growing, and just simply existing. So just imagine how this book is helping me during these times (during my existential crisis lmao).
I recommend this book to anyone who just wants a time out from the world. This book is one helluva reminder that humans are humans. Not robots.
This is a light but meaningful read. It features a quirky collection of illustrations and insights, both speaking of simple truths that are easily overlooked in the bustle of everyday life. Some of the messages may seem overused, but they all are useful prompts for reflection. I also like how the book has some interactive features, some subtle enough to encourahe a bit of backreading to notice. Generally a fun and inspiring read!
