“Captive: Hook and His Darling Part 1” is my first experience with author Sarah Bale’s writing. And I am 100% hooked! (pun intended) Pay attention to that Part 1 bit of information. This is a duet with “Hooked: Hook and His Darling Part 2.”. I do not handle angst and cliffhangers well, so I waited for both novels to be released before reading Captive. And even with the wait, I had to give myself a day to get over the book hangover from Book 1 before jumping into Book 2. Captive is a dark romance that kept me absolutely captive-ated. This engaging re-imagining of Peter Pan has delicious elements of mafia and poly/reverse-harem woven through its tale. The engaging and conflicted personalities create an intriguing twist, with serious steam, solid heat, and the perfectly elevated level of angst I was hoping for. The characters are beautifully developed, building and blending through their interactions and internal musings. I cannot wait to jump into Hooked (after a short book hangover recovery period) because I am craving more of these characters, and need a resolution to the drama in book 1. Together, Captive and Hooked make up the first two books in Sarah Bale’s new series Bale’s Bedtime Stories, and based on my experience with just the first book, I am really looking forward to devouring the rest of this series.
Hook, Line, and Sinker 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Captive: Hook and His Darling (part 1) Bale’s Bedtime Stories, was my first read from author Sarah Bale. It won’t be my last. It has taken a few days to get over the cliff-hang-over after finishing this book. It was a cliffhanger done so right it left me a little broken.
“Captive” is next-generation, fairytale re-visioning at its finest. It is edgy, knife and blood play, wickedly steamy, full open door and come on in reverse harem encounters, and really not for shades of grey readers. Without a doubt, “Captive” is in the deep end of the dark pool but reads far more relaxed than it might... well done.
RH, kidnap, ... abuse and murder… that read like an epic fairytale so insidious, that just as you have leaned all the way in, perched on the edge of your seat, you find yourself falling hook line and sinker into the dark pit of the to be continued abyss, with only the gorgeous cover photo Hooked: Hook and His Darling part 2 for comfort. I loved this story. I can’t wait to see where Sarah takes it next.
If you love dark fairytales with dubious heroes and deviant villains, tons of unabashed steam, and a well-played cliffhanger, then this is the book for you!
Captive is my first read by Sarah Bale and it had me HOOKED until the end. I absolutely enjoyed this Captain Hook (fairytale) retelling with mafia ties.
Amelia’s life hasn’t been easy, since her parents died. Stuck living under her uncle’s abusive rule, Amelia takes one night for herself.
After a night dealing with business, Hook decides to unwind. Spotting the beauty in the booth, he decides she’s HIS. And after one steamy night she disappears. Finding out said beauty has family ties to his rival, well….now captive she will be.
I loved the story and the characters. The play on names is brilliant. I fell hard for Hook, Smee, Ivan, and Ronan. They each give Amelia just what she needs: Daddy Hook, Sweet Smee, and the terror twins. The scenes between them are steamy and the blood play kicks it up a notch.
Captive has everything you love in a mafia romance. I can’t wait for the next book to continue Hook and Darling’s journey. So good!!
There’s something powerful about looking the person you’re fucking straight in the eyes. You see things like heat and passion, but sometimes you see things that scare you, like now. There’s an intensity in Hook’s gaze that he probably doesn’t even know is there. In that look I see one thing—he’s never going to let me go.
Reasons why I loved this book: -Retelling where Hook is still a bad guy but he isn’t the villain. -mafia -our main female character, Amelia Darling is a plus sized wet dream who likes to push Hook’s buttons -reverse harem where Amelia not only hooks up with Hook but also his men: Kellan (Smee), Ronan, and Ivan -Hook is Daddy -knife and blood play -double penetration -“Who do you wanna fuck next?” -The writing was amazing. Hooked me from the very first page (pun intended), smut was *chef’s kiss*, and the pace was incredible. And all four guys were easily distinguishable which I need in a relationship with more than two people. -taking sexy photos while fucking -kidnapping and falling for the captors -“good girl” -spanking with a belt -using her thong to masturbate with
Yeah you need to read this.
TWs: drugging and kidnapping, physical abuse, blackmail, violence

What can I say? I’m a sucker for Hook romances. I’m definitely going to be picking up book two soon. Oh and warning: this does end on a cliffhanger
I’m dying for book 2! How Sarah manages to freaking reel me in EVERY time, I’ll never know, but dear god I’m glad she does! I LOVE this storyline, and each sexy male character had me jealous of a fictional female! Great job, Sarah! Again!
Umm yes please. This book was a light dark mafia romance. I would call it cozy dark ya know. Cliffhanger but thats to be expected. I cant wait for the yummy retribution and revenge violence.
Engaging, heroes, villains, murder and some steamy scenes make a great dark mafia romance! But I think this is the first time I've read one with a Peter Pan twist! I have read other books by this author and it never fails. I get sucked right in! There are a few different characters but I liked how the author makes them feel so realistic! Each one will give you a reason to like them and then maybe not. It will be interesting to see what the next book brings! Happy reading everyone!
Thank you Enticing Journey Book Promotions and Sarah Bale for sharing this book with me and for having me on this book tour!
Damn this book was amazing!!!!! I didn’t realize it was a RH book when I chose it. I actually thought it was a M/F mafia/captive book. Well…I am so glad I found Captured. I loved the other books I’ve read written by Sarah Bale and this did not disappoint. Onto to book 2!❤️🖤❤️🪝🖤❤️🖤
What a phenomenal story , I was completely hooked from the get go . Hook and Amelia’s story is so full of so much excitement, danger , steam , and of course alpha men . This was such a wonderful twist on the story of Captain Hook . I just loved the storyline so much . a
Hook walks in to the bars VIP section to unwind after killing one of Peters men. When he sees this beauty. He ends up taking her back to his hotel room and they have the perfect one night stand. When he wakes the next morning she's gone. Amelia leaves after her one night stand and crawls back into the window where her uncle finds her and beats her up. Later she finds out he wants to marry her. When Peters starts causing issues with in the Families and more focused towards Hook. When Hook's team figures out who Hook's one night stand was things get complicated. What happens when Hook and his men all fall for Amelia? What happens when they find out about Amelias past?
I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS BOOK! I fell for Hook, Smee, Ivan, and Ronan so hard! Each of them bring something great to the table! I loved how much they are all about figuring out how to protect her as well as getting her everything she needs. I love how well Sarah brought in all the (Hook/ Peter Pan) references.
- Daddy kink - Knife play - Blood play - Plus size heroine - Mafia Hook retelling - Double penetrating - Light BDSM - Reverse harems MFMMM - NO ⚔️
Warning: - Mental and physical abuse
This book was really fun, it was easy to read. This book really focuses on our heroine and Hook relationship and less on the other men in my opinion. I love all the men they bring different aspects to the group. This book really reminded me of Den of Viper and Malice.
Den of Vipers because each man has this close bond and they were willing to be together for her. Also, both groups of men have the same qualities of kink and dominance.
Malice because of the jealousy. Also, the possession and lead that Hook and Malice had in their storyline.
I enjoyed this twist on the Hook/Pan tale. It certainly delivered on the angst between the love interests. Ironically, Amelia finds freedom in the arms of her captors, Hook and Company, then we're left with a brutal cliffie where Peters gets the upper hand. A great start to this duet!
I am going to include a major spoiler at the end of this review because I was NOT ready for what happened and was absolutely devastated by how this duet turned out. I will add another spoiler alert later. You have been warned.
This duet had its ups and downs. But it did get me out of a serious slump.. that is worth mentioning. I feel like my review is long but that is only because of how INVESTED I became in this story.
I really liked the writing style of the author. I definitely see myself potentially reading more of her works going forward. I liked the flow, I liked the character development, I also really liked that this author wasn't afraid of breaking your heart and making you cry.. And you will cry. I promise.......
The characters were okay. Amelia was the perfect fmc for me. She was so strong, so determined, but she was also feminine and fragile in ways that we all (realistically) are. I thought she was super well written and I liked seeing her develop and adapt throughout the duet. (Side note: I almost dnf when she was all "I'm not a prostitute." but then proceeded to let Hook treat her like one when they first met. I was with the waitress on that one. But I am glad I gave her a chance.)
Smee was perfection. As much as I love reverse harem I wish this was just MF because he was the perfect book boyfriend and Amelia could have been so much happier with just him.
Hook had more downs than ups - overall I don't think he deserved Amelia AT ALL. First of all, his suspicion of her made NO sense. I hate when characters act stupid because it's like.. he had all the facts and they all pointed to Amelia being innocent but he was determined in making her seem guilty. (iykyk) Also can we not use sex as a form of torture and have the female be totally okay with it/enjoy it in the future? Thanks. Especially when a girl admits to being suicidal and then still decides it's okay to have s*x with four men that forced the confession through org@sms... okay. Oh and one last issue... the fact that Amelia used a safe word because Hook wouldn't respond to "no" and then he continued and sent her off with NO aftercare. Trash. The man is trash. I forgot how much I hated him..
Ronan and Ivan both fell through the cracks sometimes. I felt like Ivan and Amelia's relationship barely existed. Except when he told her she was the type of woman that asked to be abused... and then NEVER apologized. And Amelia was all "I know he is just trying to push me away." Like girl.. how?
When it came to Ronan he overcame not liking being touched because Amelia was different (obviously.) but it didn't feel like the revolution it should have been. I just wanted to feel more of the development that Amelia helped him with. It was there but it wasn't talked about enough, more of side note than anything.
For me it doesn't matter-but some people might want to know that there were more than a few editing issues throughout the duet. It could use another run through.
Spoiler time!! Stop. If you don't like MAJOR spoilers I don't want to ruin it for you! . . . .
Ivan's death completely blindsided me. I think this might be the first reverse harem I have personally read where one of the love interest ACTUALLY dies an stays dead. I wish I had been warned because I probably would have still read it but I wouldn't have let myself like him so much. I appreciated the Author's approach when even Amelia said "this isn't a fairytale." Because of course she was r@ped while being help captive and tortured. I APPRECIATED that the author didn't shy away from damaging the fmc so thoroughly. But Ivan? It was almost too much for me. ALSO the fact that it was so fast, mostly off-page, and SO much happened right after that it was just kind of like.. okay moving on. Like Amelia is just having s3x with all the guys later that day because they are all hurting from the loss. Which I would be okay with if that was why. But instead everyone was making up from keeping things from each other/fighting... so it wasn't even about Ivan.
Also Amelia being pregnant and somehow staying pregnant while starved, beaten, and raped for two months? That's not a fairytale ending?

☆☆☆☆☆ Captive was an exciting and engaging read from start to gut-wrenching cliffhanger. I’m loving these fairytale re-imaginings where we fall for the antihero and Hook definitely fit that role. “But passion leads to danger, Pleasure leads to problems, and the biggest one of all, they’ve got me captive, in body, in mind and in heart.” Hook may control the world they are all a part of, he may own everything but all he wants is Amelia. There’s a chance she’s the enemy but nothing and nobody will stop him from having her. Hook and his men – Smee, Ivan, and Ronan, will do anything to have her. Amelia works for a monster. In order to obtain her freedom, she’ll turn to his enemy, Hook and his men. This story pulled me in from the beginning and refused to let go until the cliffhanger, which just about destroyed me. I loved how both the heroes and villains towed the same dark line. All the sexual tension, action, thrills, twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, hanging on by a thread. This author is one talented and creative lady. I can’t wait for the next book. I highly recommend this story if dark romance is your thing. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
Amelia is stuck working got her abusive uncle-by-marriage, doing what she can to protect her cousins and grandmother from him. She starts out as his nanny but when he reveals that she’s being forced to marry him, she’s snatched away by Uncle George’s rivals.
Now that Hook, Smee, Ivan, and Ronan have her, she realizes she might have escaped the frying pan only to land in fire. Especially since she’s caught feelings. George is unwilling to lose and his sadistic streak has Amelia’s men on edge.
This was an interesting first foray into this fairytale retelling. I don’t love that it’s ended on a cliffhanger, nor do I love that Amelia is both too forgiving and not clever to have made it this far in life. George is quite the cliché BUT I really love Smee and Ronan’s characters and look forward to reading the next installment to find out what happens.
Hook is I don't even know how to describe him but I was Hooked on him from page one. He is strong, powerful, and Alfa. He has taken the life of one of the bad men that are trying to take over his territory well that won't work for him. When he goes to a bar that well he isn't really wanted at the last thing he expected was to find beauty in the rough. After an amazing night, he wakes up alone and can't stop forgetting about her. She's there in the back of his mind. Amelia oh this poor girl my heart just broke and hurt for her so much. She gets abused by her uncle and she is so strong because she just keeps trying to live. When she comes face-to-face with the one-night stand well things are about to change. These two will have to trust each other enough to survive. However, can they? Things are not what they seem and well it's a rollercoaster. Loved this story and couldn't put it down.
I ,for some reason ,didn't know this was a reverse harem book.So if multiple partners bothers you don't read this.I happen to like reverse harem books so I was surprised when the sex scenes became more than I first thought, but it was good.I am about to start book #2 which continues the story. This book is not complete so expect to buy the 2nd book.I like the backward twist on the Peter Pan tale. This book is the first book I ever read from Sarah Bale.I liked her writing style so I bought the Midas series as well.Well,I' m off to continue Hook' s story. 😀
An unexpected new favorite! Wow. I don't really even like mafia romance. Or reverse harem. Or fairy tales. But damn.
Captain Hook is dangerous and complicated and very, very hot. Amelia is intriguing. At first I thought her a little meek, but my opinion improved quickly. And the rest of Hook's team -- Smee, Ivan, and Ronan -- are each compelling in their own way.
I'm all in on this story and am cutting this short to download the next book and devour it.
Hook and Amelia’s story is a thrilling and captivating journey, with engaging characters. This is a well written story which is a dark fairy-tale and ends with a cliffhanger. This story is filled with intrigue, danger, revenge, redemption, violence, action, twists, passion, and is a steamy and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Love this author, found out about her on TT and I started with Captive. Lovely writing, details are right on point and story moves quickly making it impossible to stop reading. The plot is really good, mafia style with a lot of hot smutty moments. The male characters although tough and kind of mean are also caring and lovable. The female character is a very sweet normal girl (finally not a Victoria secret type of woman). Can't wait to read more from Sarah.
New to me author Sarah Bale captivated me immediately with this twisty and gripping fairy tale retelling of Captive: Hook and His Darling. Hook and Amelia have such a raw and emotional charged connection as we follow their extremely sexual and sensual journey. Bales well-built plot with twists and turns will keep you intrigued and entertained. Can't wait for Part 2!!
These books are...fine. Taking my own feelings out of the equation (Idk what I was thinking getting into a reverse harem), the characters are likeable in their own way. I like the representation of a mid size FMC. Not a big "call him daddy" girl but any author brave enough to kill off cast members gets an extra nod from me.

My goodness what a read. Hook and Amelia’s story is full of excitement, danger and of course all alpha men. I loved the storyline and cannot wait for book 2. Excellent writing.
This ended on a cliffhanger which I was not aware of. I will not be reading the next book because Hook makes such serious mistakes it's unreal. Then the h does something that makes me think she is TSTL. This was disappointing.
