Sheltered in the lap of luxury, Mila is eighteen when her world dissolves in flames around her.
War. A utopia swallowed in a single night.
Orphaned and alone, terrified of being captured, Mila flees the conquerors who have come to claim. To snatch up those gifted few called priestess―Tritan women born with magic in their blood. They are healers. Peacekeepers bound and chained, used as living batteries, they become the fuel that feeds the Caledonian army and creates unstoppable warriors.
The elite.
Warmongers. Dogs of the state, they are the perfect soldiers―everything a Tritan priestess isn't, wielding power that does not belong to them.
But Mila is an enigma. A priestess hidden from her own people, hers is a secret her father died to keep. One Mila will use to fight from the shadows, striking against the empire in any way she can. An army of one, with the power of many...
Until she is betrayed. Captured. Sold. To Captain Asher Rawlings.
Captor. Villain. Elite. Even without a priestess of his own, Asher's power lashes at her senses. Dark flames lapping at her nape, whispering of untapped potential Mila didn't think possible.
Helpless, subject to Asher's every whim, Mila is made to obey his every sordid command. Left with nothing but her secret.
That she is a Tritan priestess―the one thing he needs to seize a legendary power that could tip the scales of the war and ensure an everlasting Caledonian rule.
Now Mila must navigate a world of villains and political conspiracy, endure anything Asher throws her way, and above all else... never reveal what she is.
USA Today Bestselling Author of The Last Tritan, Atom and Evil, The Feral Court, and many more to come!
Raised by her awesome parents in Canada's snowy north, Myra learned perseverance from an early age. She learned to speak in third person via extensive reading as a child, because... well... Northern Canada gets a LOT of snow. And when one isn't snowboarding, building quinzees, or waking up to teddy bears frozen to the floor (true story), one tends to read about places that are warm--even if being cold is preferable to being hot, every-damn-time.
All that reading gave Myra the gypsy bug. So, after college, (where she majored in professional gypsying) she moved to a ski resort in British Colombia to be a ski bum and chase the winter, because the cold was in her bones and it never bothered her anyway.
But then life caught up with her, as it does, and now she's stuffed full of enough life experience to write until transcendence (where she will be first in line to get a sweet android body and travel the universe until the end of time). So that's what she does when she's not listening to the voices or taking apart the electronics just to see their insides.
Cool right? Come be my friend on Goodreads, and have a free book for your troubles!! It's called Swallowed by Darkness, and it got me my USA Today Bestselling rank, baybee. Enjoy!!!
So I've never read the Triton Evolution series and as such was going into this as a blank slate. I have to say I really enjoyed this. I mean it invoked terrible feelings of anger, hate, and the urge to rage kill. But invoke feelings it did. I was highly entertained as I sped through this, in my simmering rage of course. I had this mantra floating through my head for the last third of the book of "I can't wait for her to f**k him up!"
Strong and fierce, Mila is a survivor. Compassion and a fighting spirit has her thwarting the slavers and helping poor refugees escape to freedom. Until an unsuspecting snare finally traps her. Everything that she has sacrificed and stayed hidden to avoid, comes true, with horrifying detail.
Asher, oh sexy, disgusting antihero. I hate you and want Mila to punch you in throat, but I have a feeling you will redeem yourself somehow. But I am going to continue to picture your demise until that day.
Needless to say I can't wait for Frost to Dust, and know my impatient self is gonna have to go read the Titan Evolution series to maybe glean what happens.
Even though this is an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Please heed the warnings: This is dark. There is slavery and Non-consent. There is physical violence. If you have an issue. Please don't read.
I first read this iteration of Tritan many years ago on a free website and to this day, it remains the best story I have ever read. I squealed when I found out that Myra was going to publish this version and I dropped everything to read this entire book in one sitting!
If you like your books dark and smutty, you need to do yourself a favour and read this one RIGHT NOW. Set in a war setting, Flame to Frost starts by exploring Mila's backstory. She's fierce, she's a survivor, and I'm rooting for her from the get-go. We're later introduced to Asher, who's every bit of an a-hole, but there's so much to unpack in his character that I can't wait for the next instalment to watch how their power struggle unfolds (even though I know how it ends, I can't wait to be taken on this ride all over again).
As with all of Myra's work, she builds this fantasy world so vividly that I felt like I was living in it as I was reading. This Tritan book was everything I remembered it to be and more, with bonus scenes for those who have read the OG! I'm going to be rereading it for years to come.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This one is just the set-up. Ends right when it gets going. One thing to note is the author makes it clear she published this very popular Literotica story in its original viral form for her fans. She apparently rewrote the story after its Literotica fame but decided to publish the OG too.
Can I just say thanks to the author for doing this? I feel like that goes to show how much the author cares about her fans. And honestly this is a pretty damn good story. Entertaining and good pacing.
Side Note: This reminds me of Meg Xuemei where I feel like there are two stories of her forbidden angel’s lust story that are available. Wasn’t clear to me which one was earlier or later but it was clear it was the same story but one was revised.
As a huge fan of the Tritan's Evolution series, I was really excited when I heard that there was an earlier unpublished version of the story that was going to be published. This series is based on the same characters, however, the storyline is its own. I have to say that I did not expect to love this as much as I did. This story was gritty, raw and full of brutal sensuality that Ms. Danvers is so good at delivering. I adore this version of Mila. Asher is truly a villain at this point of the story, albeit a very hot and intriguing one, and I can't wait where Ms. Danvers takes his character. This version definitely takes the heat and depravity to the next level! My only complaint is how short the book was. I was so invested in the story that I couldn't believe it when I turned the page and it was over. It's my understanding, however, that the rest of the books in the series are quite a bit longer. And I'm definitely here for it!
I adore darker reads. I especially love reads where the heroine (h), has to overcome a hopeless situation. Flame to Frost check all my boxes to fulfill all my darker angsty reading needs. It’s a fanatic start to the Tristan series. The author mentions it’s a rereleased and revised version of her early works, but it’s new to me. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Loved this book! I don’t like to post spoilers or restate the whole synopsis of the books I review. I prefer to just review books like would recommend them to a friend. 10/10 would recommend.
- Dark Fantasy - Women With Powers - War between kingdoms
🔸 This book contains triggers about psychological and sexual abuse, enslavement of women. Read with caution.
🔸 Our young lady after fleeing possible enslavement by her enemies (the story begins with her narrating what happened when an army of men with magic invaded her country) stays for years living in the forest, learning how to survive on her own, this doesn't last long when she is betrayed and soon captured. Her life is horribly transformed.
🔸Our villain is the army general, known for training slave girls, he becomes interested in buying the wild girl with sharp teeth, he soon finds out that she is a rarity, something his people went to war to have: A Priestess.
🔸 This book is a dark fantasy, with the theme of women being used for their powers, of course in every war many suffer but here it is clear that women have an important role in both war and slavery. It has strong descriptions, it has a bit of our little girl trying to stay sane and it also has a sense of being something straight out of an "Omega verse".
*Omega verse was known for violence and as always it is divided into categories, almost like of a pack. It is not a light novel, you see. *
🔸 I'm going to keep reading as I want to know what will happen with the Girl and the General (the hype was that he resembled the Darkling)
Good as hell. I can't wait for the next one. Asher is completely evil. This was an original with a huge cult following on Literotica and I can see why. Since then it's been removed and now being published. I wish I had known about so I wouldnt have to wait for part 2. Myra published a Trition trilogy that was heavily edited and weighted down. I've read those but they aren't as good. This is much better.
Not only was this book exceedingly overpriced for a novella, but it was garbage too. I'll get into the garbage part soon, but if this book wasn't so expensive for what it was then I don't think I'd be near as mad.
Anyway....
Flame to Frost is a novella featuring our Heroin, Mila, who's country has been defeated, and her people enslaved. This novella is written in first person from her perspective, and you go on a short journey with her after her subsequent escape and eventual capture years later.
This book starts off well. The writing in honestly good, and Mila starts off as a potentially interesting character. But it was after the first few pages that my problems with Mila began.
Mila is a senators daughter, and apparently privileged....
She never had to receive training as a "priestess" despite having this immense power and her abilities have been kept a secret. So after her people have fallen, she escapes to the forest with a group of refugees. They are then captured, but somehow she manages to sneak away because she's so much more important than them and she absolutely can't get captured.
This privileged rich girl somehow happens to have amazing survival skills by chance. And somehow survives in a forest for years without being malnourished or dying from the elements. She simply survives off nut and bread, and builds herself a tree house. She also manages to outsmart slavers and trained mercenaries time and time again despite no background in tactics and basic survival skills.
This is a girl that can't even kill a bunny by the way. She's no Katniss Everdeen. She's apparently anti violence, anti kill, anti do anything bad to anybody despite those same people doing bad things to her. She's just soooo good. And soooo sweet. She's our innocent, beyond reproach, little flower of an MC.
I stress this now because as far as characterization goes, this comes back to bite the author in the ass later. But I digress.
Mila uses her time and experience in the wild to help free other slaves by poisoning their captors and essentially giving them the runs. She does this for years until someone outsmarts her and sets a trap using female mercenaries that pretend to be victims. She's captured and sold, and apparently looking a little rough around the edges.
No one want's her at the slave auction except one guy ( our main guy. our villain) who cleans her up and intends to make her a sex slave. On top of being a trainer/owner of sex slaves, Asher also is a general of some sort? Which left me wondering how this guy has time for fucking anything, much less training and fucking and sailing slaves. But anyway...one of the many plot holes of this book.
This is when we start to see a more violent side of Mila. Suddenly she's the complete opposite of how she is portrayed earlier in the book. She bites, she kicks, she even tries to strangle another woman with the intent of killing her. The only time we see her submissive side again is when Asher is fingering her and making her come as a part of her "training" and "punishment".
It was super rapey, which I'm fine with (rape scenes don't trigger me or anything), but it was just the way that the author portrayed Asher as a character that I didn't enjoy. Because at this point he's damn near irredeemable, and I just hate him, and he's shallow as fuck.
Eventually it's discovered that Mila is a priestess. And this is where another problem arises. At no point are we given a clear or decent description of the world or exactly what being a priestess entails. All we know is that Asher and others like him can use a priestesses' power to their benefit. Which leaves me to question, if these priestess are so powerful why cant their own people, or they, use their power to protect their country or themselves? There is a point in the book where a mystical chain/bracelet is eluded to that tames the priestesses, but it's never fully explained; just minorly touched on in the end.
Soooo......
There are just so many holes in the plot of this novella, the characters are wishy washy and there is no debt to them, the plot was predictable as fuck, and the world building was atrocious.
This book wasn't worth my time, effort, or money. 1 star.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I'm going to start this review by saying two things. Firstly, I adore Myra Danvers and her writing style. Delerium is probably one of my favourite books ever. Secondly, I have massive problems with non-con and I do not find reading about massive power imbalances titilating in any way. As a general rule, if a book has non-con in the blurb I will not pick it up, or if I discover it I'll DNF.
It is only that it is Myra that I kept going with this to the end, and that I really loved the other version of this series. I can't remember the specifics of the other version well enough, but I don't remember her relationship with Asher being so rapey.
However, whilst I don't remember seeing non-con in the blurb or warnings, I did know what I was letting myself in for when I read this, so I'm not going to let the fact it turns my stomach as a romance trope colour my rating.
As with the other version, I loved reading about Mila in the forest and freeing the slaves and I can't wait for subsequent books where I very much hope she pits Asher in the ground!
It grabbed me from page one and wouldn’t let go. I love these post apocalyptic worlds filled with intrigue and aggression. Mila is a wonderful heroine. I’m so routing for her. Asher is an alpha hole and the jury’s still out on him. I’m not holding out hope for a happily ever after for these two, but the ride will be fun. I’m dying for the next one!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love Myra Danvers far out writing style and this one is no different. My only negative is that it was way too short. I consumed this book so fast that hours had past and I did not even know it.
This book is about Caledonians and Tritans. Caledonians are strong brutes who attack them for their abundant resources, especially their priestesses. The priestesses of Tritan can feel energy from every organic thing around them and they are also sought-after healers which could make a Caledonian Elite practically unstoppable. Since the takeover priestesses are rare and Mila is one of them. Mila is a Titan Priestess who escapes during the raids and hides out among the trees freeing slaves when possible. However, a betrayal gets her caught and auctioned off to an Elite, Lord Rawlings.
Lord Rawlings is an Elite who bought Mila at a slave auction to train her to be a pleasure slave; however, he eventually finds out her secret, when that happens, there is only possessiveness and desire and that is when Mila knows that her days of freedom has come to an end.
And, right during the good part…. to be continued. So looking forward to the next book in this series.
I have received this book from Booksprout, and this is my honest review.
So this is book #1 and the original version of The Last Triton albeit one that has been polished to a good shine. However just to really confuse you, the author rewrote the story and released it a few years ago, beginning with Ravenous Innocence. This version, which is hugely different, was released because fans of the Lit€rotica version refused to be silenced 😂.
I'm glad I read the rewritten version first, whilst this was a fast paced and entertaining read, it didn't have the lushness, the incredible world building, the powerful emotions that I found in those books. It was still a gripping tale, more savage in feel with a plot that I would describe as dark romance with elements of fantasy. The pace is much faster, so is great for those who are impatient readers, and contained more erotic elements.
The great thing with this release is that you have a choice of this faster moving, darker, grittier story or the more complex and detailed fantasy based books of the Triton Evolution series.
Guys!! Oh my god this book! I’m telling you. Read it. It’s a 5/5⭐️ for me. It’s a quick read but it starts with a bang and just keeps going!!
When I say I had so many emotions. I mean SO MANY. My heart broke and mended and broke again. 😩😩
Milas hardships throughout the story just got me! She’s so strong and fierce I just love her and I want to give her a big hug and be her bestie!
Now. Captain Asher. I see you sir. I want to hate you but I can’t!! 😩😩
Anyways, please read this book. It’s amazing. It’s a great read! The world building and magic system is so easy to follow! Myra excels in explaining the world without making it boring. It flows so naturally.
I really like Myra Danvers' brain and the way that it works. She writes such twisted and turny stories, with all kinds of heat. This one is no different. It's a nice throwback to her early days.
I like Mila and how she goes out and learns by trial and error. She manages to stay safe for a long time, but she doesn't abandon her heart. Which is kind of a problem, at one point, but she wants to help. I think that she is really strong, and maybe a little bit naive at some points, but strong.
I want to find out more about Asher. I think that Mila is going to be a really good influence on him, so we'll see.
Having dyed things with walnuts, I can tell you how effective they are. Reading about Mila learning survival skills with walnuts reminded me of the wormy nuts we used to find in graveyards. And here it is: Mila’s life is a graveyard after the Caledonians conquered like ancient Romans, and she spends over two years learning how to survive in the woods. All that is overturned when she is captured. I felt like she was slowly being raped and demeaned, despite being resourceful and a spitfire.
I guess it is a guilty pleasure; I would never want any such thing in real life. The orgy scene is horrifying. The pampered slave life reminds me of peacocks in cages. This was a first novel? Unbelievable. The story is so graphic and realistically brutal that I was sucked in just reading the tiny details. The world seems real. The characters seem real, and it is scary.
Now I want to know what the rewrite looks like. I want to know if she ever figures out that chains go both ways. This is seriously dark and it reminds me of Quinn Blackbird’s stories. #Dystopian # Dark Romance #Definitely NOT for kids # Enemies to Lovers, possibly? # Alpha Love?
The only thing I don’t understand is the Title. Whatever. I received this through Booksprout for a review. Lucky guess on my part. I read it in an evening.
Re-reading this story of Mila and Asher was just as wonderful the second time as the first. I have been following this series for years, ever since its unpublished days posted online. When I found out Myra Danvers is publishing the entire series in its original storyline, I grabbed this to settle myself in for a re-reading of a great story.
In a world where Mila is the last Tritan free from slavery, she hides and fights against the Caledonian army who conquered her peaceful country for the Tritan priestesses, whose powers can boost a Caledonian Elite to unimaginable strength. Book 1 starts abrupted with the fall of Tritan, and details Mila's years running and hiding from being captured. It shows us Mila's back story and her development from a pampered Noble daughter to a butt-kicking firecracker.
The story is written beautifully and the plot is very unique, which makes the book hard to forgot. I find it difficult to put my phone down, even though it's my second time rereading. I rarely read books a second time, even if they're favorites, but The Last Tritan has a story line that remains unlike many of the fantasy genres out there. I look forward to reading the next book.
So I accidentally read book 3 first because I got confused with Danvers's other series Tritan Evolution, which I think I will have to reread that series again to refresh my brain. Wow, this is a great series so far my only dissatisfaction is that it's a short one, I needed more, and I know of course book 2 is already out but I just hope it's a little bit longer. I started this book a little after 10 pm and finished at 1:30 this morning. I love Mila, I mean she survived years in the forest all by herself, and she knows how to adapt to her situations, she has a heart of gold and is wild at heart, she does not want to accept to become a slave (who can blame her, right?). This book is very steamy considering there are no smexy scenes yet, and I love Asher and all his Alphaness! I highly recommend this series, so go ahead and start reading!
I have never read any books by this author before but this intrigued me as it was a chance at the original that had a very specific following and having read it can see why. The story winds itself round you and pulls you in. The details and the places are so beautifully described. You cannot help but feel for Mila who seems to have managed so well in terms of keeping herself alive yet those who she is kind to always seem to turn on her. She is eventually trapped but does manage to keep herself hidden until yet another betrayal. She has so much spirit and fight but that will only last so long when you have more than one person out to break you. You don't truly yet get a good read on Asher, by that I mean that his character is not obvious. You can see that he can be determined but that he is not malicious. Cruel, at times but not senselessly. I cannot wait to see where this goes!
I loved this book. I have read both versions of this tale. I liked both. The newest was atoned down version of the first book but it has more details. Captain Rawlings is still an a34hole. I love Mila’s strength and adaption to her new circumstances first in the woods and then with Captain Rawlings. She fought as hard as she could, going against her instincts, but only to betrayed buy those she called friends. And then there’s the cliffhanger... I hate cliffhangers but this is Myra doing the writing so I’m willing to wait for the next installment which I know will be as great as this one. This book has several trigger scenes. If you are easily offended then this is not a book for you! For all those folks who love this genre of books don’t miss this one for sure.
Enchanting! Engrossing! Extremely addictive storytelling. I couldn't wait another day to receive an ARC of this book so I bought a Kindle copy. $3.99 well worth buying.
Gorgeous Mila meets her match, an elite warrior with thighs thick as an oak tree! What a phenomenal story and a tremendously talented, imaginative, rapturous writer with the gift to take you away to Mila (protagonist) and Asher. I first read this story more than a decade ago on a free internet forum and I never forgot how riveting this story was. It captured my imagination and held it captive for a decade. Thank God the author decided to rerelease the original.
Mila is the last Tritan, and rare as she is, she's unwashed and wild, until she met Asher. And there their intertwined lives get even more interesting. Don't deprive yourself of the company of Asher and Mila and grab a copy of this book STAT!
‘Flame to Frost’ the first book in this series and is just mouthwateringly juicy. I exited this world and when into a realm of amazing countries, cities and characters. This book is an original version of ‘The Last Tritan” universe and is a magnificent read. You will come face to face with a warrior built to tame, conquer and lay siege to your heart. You will be swept away by the last Tritan Priestess who will have you captivated with her compassionate heart, strength, cunning mind and survival strategies. The world building and storyline is exceptional. The characters introduce throughout each chapter are just as exceptional. The action, drama, and suspense will throw you for a loop. If you want to hell of a ride and a deep dive into another universe you must read Flame to Frost!
I have enjoyed reading Myra Danvers and found Flame to Frost an intriguing addition to her literary portfolio.
Sounded all intellectual there, didn’t I?
But SERIOUSLY! This first book, which was kind of, sort of, already written, is a masterpiece of Danver’s art, reworked to create a parallel universe of intensity, need, and characters who obviously can stand the test of time.
Lucky we mere mortals, get a yummy, dark, cutting, twofer! (Really threefer if you think about it) set of stories from her “cult classic” beginning.
Any-who, you need to possess this story, as it might fill some of those deep crevices and cracks in your soul. You know, those ones you keep hidden from others? Yeah, those.
Three words...Give. Me. More!!! As in all of it! Myra Danvers delivers as always. This series promises to be just as captivating and tittilating as the Tritan Evolution series. In comparison,The Last Tritan: Flames to Frost started off slower than the Tritan Evolution series but it quickly picked up and is just as addicting. The stories are so different they can definitely each, not only stand on their own, but esnare and leave you begging for more. I couldn’t put this book down! I love the strong, fearless, heroine that is Mila. And Captain Asher Rawlings, the sexy but dark anti-hero you want to hate but can’t (fans self, hotttttttie!). The sexy cliff hanger ending left me craving more! The next installment can’t come soon enough!!!
I remember reading this book chapter by chapter before Myra started publishing and I was beyond excited when she announced she'd be returning to this older story. I enjoyed Tritan Evolution but the Last Tritan was my introduction to Myra and her skill... and I'm happy to return to this tale. I will say I'm unhappy about the cliffhanger in book 1 but I'm sure Myra won't hold us there forever. I remember what comes next but I dont think I ever read the end so im intensely curious to see it in time.
This first book is not as dark as some others can be, as it lays the groundwork in a deeper story and world but it's still highly entertaining and engrossing.
I first read this story many years ago and it had always been one that has stuck in my mind for good reason. Flame to frost is an incredible tale in a fantastic series. Newly edited but still largely in its original form I was delighted to be able to read it again and rediscover the well thought out plot, brilliant world building and deeply considered characters. Danvers novels all have one thing in common; their attention to detail in world building which creates a perfect scaffold on which to hand the plot and characters. The story itself is great and the smut is even better! I thoroughly recommend and can’t wait for the rest of the series to be released!
This book is a release of work that Myra did way back when she hadn't published her first book. I really enjoyed reading this because I was able to see the growth of Myra as an author. This work was my first glimpse into this world as I haven't yet read the re-written version of this story. I am eager to see what happens next. This is a quick read but for those who have been eagerly awaiting this release its definitely worth it and easy to see why it's a fan favorite.
