So I was a bit disappointed in this book unfortunately 😞 I found Ms.Holly on Tik Tok and by the videos she posted about her book I thought this was gonna be the hottest smut I'd ever read..... I found the story very much all over the place and way to much was happening all at once, it just wasn't consistent to me and I didn't feel a connection to any of the characters either. I really wanted to love this book and I did at first but about halfway through it just all kinda went haywire and I had to really push to get through the rest. I am glad I gave it a try though and happy I could support an author by trying out her debut release.💜
Illicit Affairs is fabulous! This is not an exaggeration. This book is SO good.
Illicit Affairs is Holly Dixon’s debut, and what an amazing debut. This is a workplace romance featuring a feisty, fierce, sexually liberated woman and a sexy, dominant boss who demands discipline. Ava Archer, twenty-seven-year-old legal secretary to the managing partner at her father’s firm, had everything she could ever need. She had the best friend a girl could want, a career that was on the rise, wealth, and social prowess. When Nathaniel Brooks comes into Ava’s life as the temporary managing partner at her firm, Ava’s life is thrown into chaos. Nate likes order and control in his life, but Ava’s feisty nature results in a fight to maintain control over the office and their lives.
This book was really good, like really good. Not only does it have a relatable heroine, but it also has a swoon-worthy hero. The characters, main and supporting, were amazing and relatable. Sam, Ava’s best friend and possibly my favorite character, was the perfect comic relief, comfort and soul sister for Ava. This book has some serious steam between Ava and Nate. The dialogue is well-done, it’s hilarious and so funny. The suspense and intrigue carry throughout the book and there were hints that things might go awry, but I did not expect things to happen the way they did.
The writing is so poetic and flows very well. The pacing of the story was perfect and the way the spontaneous, chaotic relationship developed between Ava and Nate was foreboding. This book is from the third person point of view and the writing was so exceptional I felt each of the character's emotions. I felt the rage, love, sorrow, and fear these characters felt. I laughed and cried with these characters.
I could not get enough of Ava and Nate. Illicit Affairs was a page-turner I thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend this spicy, hilarious workplace romance!
Okay so let me start with one thing. As a reader who absolutely hates Third Person writing I loved this book ! It was written so so good and I really enjoyed reading it. It was easy to understand. I must say what was hard for me was to understand the Scottish accent of Sam since English isn’t my first language but still it was a beautiful book. The plot at the end was kinda weird and confused me a bit but the Epilogue made it so beautiful again at the end and the last quote especially was very good and gave me „it ends with us“ (Colleen Hoover) vibes.
All in all I really enjoyed the story between Nate and Ava and I think it’s a very beautiful storyline !
4/5 Stars <33

This book is so good. It starts spicy and by the end of the book you’ll be in tears. The book has so many twists and turns and surprises that you won’t be able to put it down.
So I def thought that by the blurb of the book this story was meant to be for those of us that have kinks similar to the ones mentioned. Also, the way in which dominance is so blatantly mentioned and hinted that the protagonist Ava is not submissive, I thought bondage was legit what I thought the book was about. But Nah, I think the audience for this book was meant to be newbies to this type of genre, those who like read the spicy scenes laid out after all the sexual tension but don't want it to be too graphic. But as a veteran of this genre, I didn't like it and honestly thought that some of the descriptions of sex were just hilarious because of how many flower metaphors were thrown in.
As I mentioned I think the author really failed at properly categorizing her genre because I feel like this was a soft spicy book. Like panda dressed in a tiger costume, not for veterans of the genre - those of us with questionable kinks. I for sure was confused so many times throughout the book as to the why of some of the actions taken by Nate and Ava since the characters were not behaving in accordance with how they were first introduced. And even way later there just seemed to be no logic to the actions and decisions being made by both protagonists.
Mainly I definitely thought this was going to be for sure a mature and very sexually driven plot, the title implies it. But Nah, it kinda wanted to be a self-healing and growth book - following the protagonist perspective at least - but it also didn't do too good in that either. Plus I was honestly very disappointed with how the book ended, not only for the ending itself but for the fact that Ava - our proclaimed dominant character - really doesn't act like her usual smart self at all.
I must say, although Ava herself was not coherently written I did have so much love for her. In my eyes, I thought she was the coolest female character I had read in a while. Not only is she slightly older than other romance characters but she is unapologetically sexy and confident in her body and sexuality. But then again it just seemed dumb that she would make some of the decisions she made from the middle towards the end of the book.
Truly, most of the first half of the story was really appealing to me and I really liked the way in which the office affair was developing - that is like an affair. But once Nate pulled out the "I'm married for convenience" card and Peter ended up falling for Charlotte and sabotaging Ava I was just like....really? Any avid reader knows to expect these plot twists in the story but for a story that was going on so well, I thought the author would have taken time to develop and explain these points. Not at all. I simply wanted a plausible and coherent reason to the why of the actions taken by the male characters in the book but that was not given at all.
Additionally, the whole kidnapped section of the book was appalling in my eyes, it was so cliched and really just angered me because it seemed so unnecessary. Oh and let's not even mention Sam's death, it's not often I wish this but maybe Ava's death would have been preferred to add more dynamic to the book.
And that was truly it, the main issue for me was that Miss Holly wrote the most amazing woman duo in existence - Sam is amazing - and she barely developed them on their own. Ava is such a powerful, strong, and independent woman who needed to be given more of a voice and autonomy but instead was defined by who she was in the life of the men around her. Sam was just awesomely wholesome and hilarious but she was never given much else other than a sidekick role. And the love story for me should have really focused solely on only one of the two aspects: Self-love or Sexual Love, not both.
But overall I think it was a good debut, a truly great first attempt. I hope that as Holly matures as a writer she allows herself to dive more into the characters she writes and is not worried about word count because at the end of the day a good story is a good story and an immersed reader will not care about how long it takes to feel the cathartic release to come. Only that it does come.

>Firstly a little note about the wonderful Holly Dixon, you will know already that I outright adore her and she is such a lovely human being, which is why I had to jump at the chance to review this for her. However this being said all thoughts are my own. Now strap yourselves in it is about to get steamy. Firstly I want to warn you that the majority of this book will give you a whole lot of Bi panic. However, it will leave you with some new fictional crushes. If you used to be a wattpad reader (If you know, you know) you will love this book. Holly has always such a way with words and it is no different throughout this Illicit Affairs.
The characters in this book seem so real and as if you know them in person.
Aside from the steamy romance between Ava and her boss, Nate. Who it turns out I have a new found love for... Yes I am also aware that I should not love Nate but here we are with my questionable life choices. There are some hints of a mystery plot scattered throughout that in all honesty keeps you on your toes until the very end! You'll gasp, you'll moan, you may even shed a tear or two Whilst reading this please remember to breathe. It turns out you may hold your breath without realising in some parts of the book. In addition to the feelings you have, there will be some shedding of tears. If you're looking for a spicy romance with a great sense of humor this is the book for you.
Read at your own caution it will start an obsession. You have been warned.
Grab the popcorn, my fellow readers, because Illicit Affairs is packed with heat, drama, and twists and turns that I did not see coming. Illicit Affairs took me on a wild journey that I absolutely loved!
The steam and heart between Ava and Nate jumped off the pages. The way their relationship developed hit me right in the chest. And don't even get me started on the side characters. Best friend Sam had me in stitches whenever she opened her mouth!
If you like your hot romance with a side of intrigue, this one's for you. Illicit Affairs left me gasping at the unexpected turns and even crying a few times in between the sizzling steam. Ultimately, this book is a must-read from the amazing Holly Dixon!
5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You'll laugh from chapter one, bite your lip by chapter thirty and cry when it's all over.
I was one of the lucky few to read this book before it came out and WOW is it good!
I don't tend to read 'smut' in romance but this was written so well with imagery that was as beautiful as it was poetic. I admit I did get hot under the collar reading this book lol the author certainly delivers on the steamy smut scenes lol!
On the surface, this book poses as a slow burn office romance, which it is, but there's so much more to it with dramatic scenes and so many twists that you'll never see coming! It wasn't until reading this book for a second time [it was too good not to!] that you pick up on bread crumbs that have been strategically left by the author.
What I adored most about this book was the fresh take on women being more empowered in erotic fiction. I was put off of the genre from reading other books which gave off a toxic relationship vibe that was borderline abusive, but Ava Archer [female lead in Illicit Affairs] is strong, independent, sassy and takes no BS from the dogmatic men in her life. She is a true relatable woman for girls to aspire to and the battle for dominance between her & her boss [Mr. Brooks] was highly entertaining to read!
AMAZING!
Loved this book and can't wait to read other works by Holly Dixon!
Debut author, Holly Dixon, has such an elegant way with words as it depicted throughout this entire novel. Her characters pop off the page and her dialogue is witty and hilarious!
Aside from the steamyyyyy romance between Ava and her boss, Nate, there are also subtle hints of a mystery plot scattered throughout that keep you wondering and guessing what's up until the very end! You'll gasp, you'll moan, you may even shed a tear or two like I did.
If you're looking for a spicy romance with hilarity for pages and pages, this is the book for you!
So I absolutely loved this book. Loved the banter back and forth between Ava & Nate! But hated the whole getting kidnapped best friend gets killed story line! I felt like it went from a romance novel to a fighting crime/ murder mystery! Do love how the story ends with her becoming the boss though!
Don't be fooled by its cover ! This book is terribly, hopelessly and heartwarmingly romantic ! I'm not gonna lie, as i started this book i thought i saw the plot coming, the usual plot twists and problems ... Maaan how i was wrong ! I loved Ava's character and i related A LOT to her persona ! I recently lost a friend too so i felt it in my bones (not the same way, but still ! Grief is grief !) Nate is... Man oh man ... Let's just say that, by the end of the book, i was still surprised at how amazing he is ! He made mistakes but he definitely knew how to rectify them ! Does such a man really exist ?
I highlighted so many beautifully written quotes that I'll probably go back to a few times to get inspired or when i need that little boost of encouragements ! Definitely recommend !
I am finishing this book now and I’ve enjoyed it. But one thing I wanted to leave here was to suggest for the author to stop using “upon” to replace “on” - it doesn’t always work and sometimes it makes super haut sexy moments ridiculous or to read funny. My only comment since it’s probably just my own frustration being stuck on that word and not being able to get over it.
Overall really fun read 5/5 for the hard work that went into this book and story! Keep them coming! I’ll be reading!
This is an office affair hate to love with a twist romance. I absolutely loved reading about a strong female character who didn’t care what others thought of her until she met Nate but even then oh she pushed. When Avas father is on sick leave, his partner of the firm in New York becomes her boss, pushing her but oh does she push back. The push and pull between these two is electric. This is a slow burn so I was screaming a lot at my phone for them to get together but it was worth the wait. But what I loved most was the banter between Samantha and Ava. This is what true friendship is and I couldn’t stop laughing when they were together.
This book had me glued to my seat until I finished. I felt so many emotions reading this book and so the author did an amazing job bringing them out of me: I laughed a lot, swooned, fanned myself and cried so hard, this book is literally an emotional rollercoaster that I loved.
This is a warning, please hold onto a tissue book because there are scenes you will ugly cry. For me the relationship between Samantha and Ava was the love story and Nate came for the ride. I look forward to reading more from this new author if this is what her standards of writing is.
If you are looking for a steamy, sexy, spicy romance, Illicit Affairs is the one for you. You will be hooked from chapter 1 till the very last chapter.
Not only is this a steamy romance but Holly managed to make Illicit Affairs, funny, intriguing, suspenseful AND it is full of surprises!
From the sexy boss to the crazy and hilarious best friend, who has taken a very special place in my heart. You are in for a treat!
I couldn’t recommend this book enough!
What a wonderful debut Holly! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the future!
Holly Dixon’s debut into the world of steamy romance authors just sent us all bursting into flames. This wasn’t just another boy meets girl run of the mill sexy romance. This story has meat and potatoes to it. Twists and turns. Shocking surprises. And wow! What a turn of events toward the end. I couldn’t believe it. However, there were a few technical imperfections with the book. To grow as an individual, or as an author, requires receiving constructive feedback. So…here goes. I struggled with the grammar errors. Most pointedly, the tense of verbs. And the use of “ain’t” by Nate on several occasions. As a highly successful attorney and business partner, the use of “ain’t” just didn’t flow well with the persona of his character. I wasn’t sure if this was an attempt at making Nate “American” or not. According to Holly’s bio at the end of the book, she alluded to spending more effort toward the editing piece of publishing. My assessment I’m sure doesn’t come as a surprise. This is the only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5. There is a bright future on the horizon for this up-and-coming author. I wholeheartedly look forward to the next adventure of love and intrigue she can take us on.
Why should you read this book?🤔 👇🏻 It has those “illicit” 4💫💫💫💫 • 👍🏻Author Holly Dixon has done an amazing job with the background of the story, the plot and storyline🤩 The book has yumm-licious characters! Swooooooonnnnn...😍😋 👍🏻 An amazing plot, seamlessly blended characters, it has a very unique and interesting storyline that keeps you panting for more!❤ 👍🏻 For a Debut novel, this is a complete hit! Ava is hot and sassy and Nathaniel Brooks is cold as ice, and when those two get together, steams arise🔥 👍🏻My recommendation: If you are looking for a hot sizzling romance, this will get your motors roaring to life!🙈 • ‼Holly Dixon’s ‘Illicit Affairs’ is a searing, palm-sweating new brand of erotica – the kind that men will be begging their wives to read. Dixon ditches submissive, wallflower heroines for Ava Archer, a strong and formidable woman who shamelessly gets what she wants between the sheets. It’s a bold message to readers – that being assertive doesn’t dampen femininity, and embracing sexual freedom is a gift every woman can enjoy.
Ava Archer had everything a woman could ever desire. She was beautiful, rich, sociable, and free to do whatever she wanted between the sheets. In a battle for dominance, Ms. Archer would need to fall in line if she were to work under Mr. Brooks but there was just one problem: not all women are submissive. When the clock strikes five, both would soon realise the difficulty in keeping things business as usual behind office doors… Will Nate be able to maintain control over his heart? Will Ava lose everything when she learns that for a lawyer, deception is their art?
didnt finish - audio book narrators were awful, monotone

Found through bookstagram and saw a lot of hype with promo pieces. I had very high expectations and Holly exceeded them all!
I will admit, the front cover gave me the impressive of cheap smut but the story is far from that. I'd say that this is a slice of life romance full of relatable drama with well written smut in there.
My favourite character was the female lead Ava Archer who is a flawed but strong woman who I felt redeemed herself in the end. I enjoyed the dynamic between her and the best friend Samantha but adored the enticing relationship with Nate Brooks -Ava's boss.
The descriptions in this book were mind blowing. I had to read them a few times each time round.
If you like cheap smut I DO NOT recommend you read this book. If you like dramatic, complicated romances then I RECOMMEND this book highly.
I looked on TikTok for the spiciest, filthiest audiobook I could possibly read. This one came up. While it was not super spicy, it was definitely smutty, and the beginning of the book was pretty good. However, as soon as we got to the second half of the book, it got weird. This reminded me of My Dad Wrote A Porno, the podcast, and that really bothers me. The narrators voice was way off for the ladies, and the accents just didn’t do it for me. It got way too dramatic at the end, and didn’t make any sense compared to the beginning of the book.
I’m not much of leaving reviews on books I tend to read. But I have to say after finding her book on TikTok I did have high expectations for this story. But unfortunately it wasn’t what I had expected from what all the commotion was about. The reason I give it a 1 star in my opinion is bc i found it inconsistent and there was a lot of parts that I had to read read again bc it kept losing my attention. In another words it was boring to me.
I quite enjoyed this. I much preferred the second half of the book and especially the drama that unfolded towards the end. I enjoyed Nate and Ava’s relationship and the fact that it wasn’t all plain sailing and lovey dovey vibes, there were real challenges and issues that we can all face in new relationships. Overall a really good read that I enjoyed :)
This book was both action and spicy. A little like 50 shades, but also has an interesting story behind it. Ava and Mr. Brooks have a unique relationship when he becomes her boss and soon lover. Being both scandalous and professional, they have to decide which is more important. The relationship or the job.
