Midlife Bear Cubs

Rate this book
At forty-one, I never thought I would become pregnant.
Or that the father would be my best friend's brother...

Lauren
We both abandoned den life.
I went to the human world,
He went into the woods.
We may have tried to escape our shifter community,
But can we ever escape each other?
His babies are growing inside me,
And I can’t let anyone know.
I’m not trying to prevent him from being a father.
I’m just trying to protect my heart.

Wes
I’m more bear than I am human.
Den life and pack politics have never been for me.
When she didn’t tell me I was the father,
I felt angry and betrayed.
My inner beast wanted revenge.
But every time I see her, the more I want her.
The more I want to protect our babies.
Taking them deeper into the wild with me,
might be the only way to save them...

Delightful story filled with secrets, betrayal, anger, fear and romance. Wes and Lauren meet up again after many years apart at her mother’s funeral, but this encounter will change the path of their future forever. This is such a great book that I had to read it in one sitting as it wouldn’t let me put it down. Wonderful ending. Reality

It was actually a really nice change to have a storyline that involved real life situations where a shifter is in the later part of her life and finds herself expecting cubs.
In most pregnancy situations all the females are in the early part of their lives, but J.L. Wilder took the next step and provided us with what is happening far more regularly now than ever before and no matter the age of the mum or dad all any good parent wants is to offer their children the best choices life has to offer and I believe no one is freedom of choice.
So Lauren finds herself in the later years just over 40 and finds that one fun time without protection gifted her with the chance of children.
Without giving to much away this storyline involved both the generation that had led then den previously those taking care of the den now and what may happen in the future so rather than experiencing what most new parents believed, that they can just lean back relax and let life and fate make their choices they found out quickly that often decisions have to be made while being new parents.
Wes and Lauren both made different choices in comparison to those who stayed within the den and were basically seen as deserters of the clan, but personal choices were an individual right so when they decide to start spending more time in and around the town jealousy raised its head and they both found themselves at the centre of a number of conflicts.
Neither wanted problems or to be involved with those running the town but like any situations in life somehow Lauren seemed to be stepping on someone's toes, so by keeping to herself she hoped life would go back to normal, but it didn't look like things would be that easy so Lauren decided to deal with whatever problems faced her head on.
This is really a perfect rendition of what we as parents have to deal with when children arrive and when your dealing with different heirachies and ruling systems those in power seem to find threats no matter which way they turning, so when new parents feel as though others are living 15 -20 years in the future and involving the upcoming generations, they become very protective and aim for their kids to be able to live happy lives without the issues of the future.
This has been written perfectly giving us views of what can happen if certain situations occur and how far a parent or family member will go to protect all those involved.
A wonderful story reminding us that no matter the age we can all love deeply enjoy everything that means and also bring beautiful children into the mix.
A great easy going read that I highly recommend anyone who enjoys the genrè paranormal romance to grab a copy of "Midlife Bears Cubs"

Bear shifters Lauren and Wesley are both alike and worlds apart. Alike because they both left the den where they were born and raised and worlds apart because Lauren left to join the human world and ignored her bear side and Wes left to embrace his bear side and live alone in the wild outside their city. When the two hook up in the sorrow after Lauren's mother's death, neither was looking for anything permanent. Wesley left immediately after the encounter to return to his solitary life and Lauren packed up her mother's belongings and put the house up for sale before returning to her human job.

Two months later Lauren finds herself back in her old neighborhood. She had never expected to get pregnant at the age of forty-one and definitely not by her best friend's brother. Now she has to tell Jessica about what happened with Wes and ask her to keep the baby daddy a secret from everyone. She plans to tell everyone the father is a human man who has no idea she is a best shifter and wouldn't understand her presenting him with a litter of cubs. Wes, on the other hand, never wanted children and won't want the responsibility. Unfortunately, things will not go as she'd planned. Her den is not the same one she left due to a new alpha and her connection with Wes is deeper than she knows. The new alpha's wife hates her and her pregnancy seems to have something to do with it, but what?

This book is an awesome read.I am thoroughly enjoying the Midlife Shifters series.
This is bear shifters Lauren and Wesleys story. Lauren and Wesley had left the den 20 years ago. She to live as a human, as she felt more human than bear. He to live in the woods as he felt more bear than human. Lauren’s mother had passed away so both had came back for the funeral. One thing led to another and she hooked up with Wesley who happened to be her best friend Jessica’s brother. Lauren left and returned to her human life and he returned to his woods. Once she discovered she was pregnant, she returned to the den life as her children would be shifters. Upon her return she led everyone except her best friend Jessica to believe her baby daddy was human as she didn’t want Wesley to discover the truth. The current alpha her cousin Cody and his mate Tina are not happy at all, in fact Tina is furious that Lauren is back and pregnant.
As the story unfolds, yes Wes does discovers the truth, the alphas mate believes the father is a shifter and threatens Lauren so Wes takes Lauren to his trailer in the woods to protect her and their babies. Only the trailer is not safe for long.....
Grab your copy and enjoy there journey as they fight for their HEA. RECOMMEND READING.

Every time I see a book from J.L. Wilder, I know that there will be action, romance and a fight for what is right. Lauren is a bear shifter, who for the last twenty years has lived in the suburbs with humans, acting like them and working like them, then her mother dies and she returns to the Den to say her final goodbye. After it’s all over, Wes, her best friends brother kisses her, then before she has time to think clearly, they make love and he leaves. Then two months later, she has returned to the Den again, pregnant. This is when the fun begins. The characters are strong and determined and through a lot going on, they eventually find each other and fight for a happily ever after together.

A Bear is a Bear is a Bear

No matter how far you run ( to the big city or the wilds ) there’s no place like home, or the Den if you’re a Bear shifter . Lauren went to the city and didn’t come back to the Den until her Mother’s death. Wes stayed closer to the Den, only going as far as the woods surrounding town, being “wild” as often as possible and only taking to his human skin 3-4 times a year to go to see his sister in the Den. But things happen when emotions fly high and sometimes the thing you most wanted to not happen does and at almost 40 neither Lauren or Wes are ready for it !! Great characters, lots of sexy times and a bit of fighting to stay alive , all bring this story to a 5⭐️ read in my book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book in the Midlife Shifters series.
Later in life stories are a great asset to this author.
Wes and Lauren are both outsider's. Lauren in the human world, Wes in the wild. Both left home as soon as they were old enough and haven't looked back.
A grief stricken tryst changes all that.
I love the character interactions, plot detail and supporting cast. All gave great depth and feeling to a rollercoaster of emotions.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and series, I highly recommend it.

A surprise pregnancy for Lauren

This is book eight in the series and you can easily read these books out of sequence. The story begins with Lauren a bear shifter who left the den to live amongst humans. She wanted to gain some experience outside of her den. Lauren had an adult encounter with her BF Jessica’s brother Wes, that was great. This tryst led to an unexpected pregnancy. Lauren decided to come back to the den because she wanted her children to experience den life in a positive way. Lauren returns only to find that her den’s change in leadership has been detrimental to her family and the entire den community. What can be done now? Read On!

This is a very well written engaging story about Lauren a forty-one bear shifter women who has been living away in the human world and returned back to the den when her mother died finds out she's pregnant and Wesley, bear shifter, her friend Jessica's brother who is a recluse finds out about her condition is explored in this romance story. This was another story in this delightful series of older shifters I couldn't put down with it's likable characters with dramatic, romantic encounters along with action that I enjoyed reading. I volunteer to read and review this ARC via Booksprout.

Not a fan

I love shifter books, even better when they have shifter babies. I got 11% through the book and just couldn’t finish it. The hookup between Lauren and Wes was cringe worthy. No build up to them having any kind of feelings. He unzips his pants and puts her hand on him. I was like what the h…? This was a very dry book. I had no connection to either character and really didn’t care to. I don’t understand why there were so many great reviews? I hate that I’m being so harsh in this review but I feel disappointed.

DNF only skimmed

I had so many issues with this book. I’ve never read any of the previous books because I found the ad through Facebook.
This book started out so weird, and the “heroine” drove me crazy. I gave up after chapter 16 because of the way she acted and the things she said. Then the “love” scene at the beginning went from 0-60 in no time flat. It confused me so bad because I felt there was some paragraphs missing, I read read the scene 3 times thinking my eyes skipped over something. Nope! Honestly worst s*x scene I’ve ever read.

She left her shifter comunity to live in the human world until she found out she was pregnant and moved back. She refused to tell who the father was as it was a one night stand.

Wes went to the woods more bear than man he did not want anything to do with the politics of the den but then he finds out about the babies.

The characters are great. Fate has her ways.

Mid Life Bear Cubs, Midlife Shifters.

Another great Midlife shifter story! I've so enjoyed these books and this was no exception!
Home in the den for her Mother's funeral, Lauren has a brief intimate encounter with Wes her best friend's older brother. The rest as they say is history!!
An enjoyable book, I could barely put down, not quite a single sitting read but very nearly! Thoroughly recommend it.

Midlife Bear Cubs is book eight in the Midlife Shifters by author J.L. Wilder. This series and this book, give a whole new abstract outlook into the world of shifters. It’s incredibly intriguing and just a bit inspiring.
Midlife Bear Cubs, is full of bits of drama, obstacles, obsession and heat.
Enjoy!!

One of the things I liked about Midlife Bear Cubs is that the characters are more mature, and both had previously left Den life behind and were living primarily as humans, even if he was more bear than man. It's an enjoyable story and makes a good addition to the series. I have enjoyed this series, and highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre and bear shifters especially. A great paranormal romance for adult readers.

Lauren and Wes have a connection, he's her brothers best friend. Both bear shifters who find den life wasn't for them. So he left to become one with his bear while she went to be in the human world. Both crossing paths and crossing the line when her mother passes. Neither knowing that one encounter left Lauren with a little secret shes carrying. Will Wes find out her secret? What will happen?  Will there be a HEA?

Fast, fun, and easy to read. I enjoy all of this authors books but I especially like this mid-life series. Don’t worry, it’s a standalone and they can be read in any order. Don’t know how she writes so many different books so fast, but keep it up.

Unexpected mate

Absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend it to all readers who enjoy great romantic shifter books. What's a beautiful woman bear shifter supposed to do when she finds herself pregnant with her best friend's brother's cubs. Following Lauren and Wes's interaction should intrigue readers especially when she doesn't think that he would want to know.

DNF 45%

This book went everywhere but had hardly any romance. There was like three different sub-plots occurring that distracted from the two main characters getting together.

I skimmed and skimmed, hoping it good get better and pick up the pace and the romance, but nada.

I just ended up reading the epilogue and moving on to the next book.

Great Read!

I enjoyed this book about Lauren and Wes! Both were Exiled for getting pregnant with babies that could produce a son that could become the next heir in line to be the Alpha! The current Alpha, Cody, and especially his mate, Tina, doesn't want that at all! I do believe everyone who reads this book will enjoy it! I definitely recommend it!

Lauren is back home for her Mum's funeral, she has a one night stand with her best friends brother and becomes pregnant. She decides that now is the time to move back to the bear den where she grew up so her kids can enjoy the same sort of childhood that she had, and she doesn't want the dad to know cos he's a bit of a antisocial, wild man loner. Doesn't really got to plan though!
