NOT LIKE YESTERDAY (An Ilse Beck FBI Suspense Thriller) is book #3 in a new series by mystery and suspense author Ava Strong.

FBI Special Agent Ilse Beck, victim of a traumatic childhood in Germany, moved to the U.S. to become a renowned psychologist specializing in PTSD, and the world’s leading expert in the unique trauma of serial-killer survivors. By studying the psychology of their survivors, Ilse has a unique and unparalleled expertise in the true psychology of serial killers. She had no idea, though, that she would become an FBI agent herself.

Victims of a new serial killer are being found with their bodies stuffed, the signature work of a taxidermist. Is this the killer’s trade? Or is he outwitting the FBI, planting a false trail, and far more dangerous than imagined?

Can Ilse enter his mind and catch him before it’s too late?

And can she juggle this case with another return trip to Germany, as she, finally, closes in on the darkest secrets of her childhood?

A dark and suspenseful crime thriller, the ILSE BECK series is a breathtaking page-turner, unputdownable from the first word. A compelling and perplexing mystery, rife with twists and jaw-dropping secrets, it will make you fall in love with a brilliant new character, while it keeps you shocked late into the night.

Great story but some irksome vocabulary needs attention

I really have been enjoying following the story of Ilse and her struggles with PTSD, because I can relate to some degree, however I wish the author could have avoided the constant use and almost abuse of using 'wince', which to me describes pain, not so much pleasure or other emotions, and always in past tense? I don't know but it just seems lazy when there are so many other descriptive ways to clarify a facial expression more creatively!
Detritus is another victim, as well as the phrase referring to 'wrinkling one's nose' is just off a bit, and it's kind of distracting.
This author is a very good storyteller, and I'll buy the next book, but I just had to say something before my head explodes. It probably will anyway though!

Boy did this book make me wince....

I am 73 years old and I've been a reader all my life. I've never in all those years of reading seen a word so frequently repeated as "wince" in this book. It had to be repeated at least 10 ten times and it really started to annoy me. I'd like to claim the Prize if there is one for picking up on this because there can't be any other reason. I found 18 synonyms for wince at first glance.

I enjoyed the book but as in book 2 the climax was quite far-fetched. So if my memory serves me well there were 1 million acres in which to pin-point the murderer which our heroine did. Then talk about fighting with one hand tied behind your back, there was plenty of that, or near enough to. The climax pushed the realms of possibility just too far for me.

The workings of a twisted mind in the middle of the forest lead to killing people and putting them together as if they were family. Ilse Beck has to fight her worst nightmares to face this deranged killer, and sometimes her feelings get really mixed up with those from when she was held captive in Germany. She does what she learned best, which is to fight against her own emotions, and she has Sawyer to help her out. A good, albeit somewhat dark story, that keeps the reader entertained and looking forward to learning how it will end!
As a member of the author's ARC team, I downloaded a free copy of this book through BookFunnel and this is my honest opinion.

Ilse a day rock climbing , then to slip
Hanging on a cliff, a rope being cut.
The nightmares, the bodies
A father saying how to survive
She was a fighter now, how to say no
Chilling story, gory #3 in series
Given ARC for my voluntary

This content is interesting!

The problem...unlike the two previous Ava books in this series...the
page numbers do not show, and it is difficult...the KINDLE does not
easily "page" with one swipe, so going forward or back is a pain when
you do not have the page number!!

I may try the next book in the series, but if missing page numbers...that
will be my last!

This 3rd book in the series was just as enthralling as the others. I will be reading all of them.
