Rate this book
She was the opposite of what he was looking for, but everything he needed.

Henry Wraxall is the most eligible bachelor and the most well-known womanizer of his era. His rakish lifestyle has provided him with every pleasure possible, but now it’s time to settle down. To find his future duchess, he decides to hold a secret dinner party. But the ladies have an impossible task; leave their homes unchaperoned. Certainly from those brave enough to attend, he will find a woman worthy of his attention.

Alice Egerton is a helpless romantic. Reading her books and keeping a low profile is her cup of tea. But when her sister decides to leave their house unchaperoned, she is ready to do anything to prevent her ruination.

This roguish duke is definitely one to stay away from.

Surprisingly, the only lady who catches Henry’s attention is neither a debutante, nor a diamond of the first water, but a bluestocking hiding inside his library, making fun of his eccentric way of choosing a bride.
As the only woman who has ever resisted his charm, he decides that he should win her. What a task it would be to unplug the wallflower…

He set her body on fire, she burned his rakish past…

A wonderful story of a bluetocking

This is a quick read and enjoyable story. Alice is a character you quickly feel concern about. She is many things including caring kind and considerate , as well as a bluesticling , wallflower, ad headed for spinster good. All she wants is to be loved. Henry decides to seek out a bride in an unusual fashion and wants to grind twenty eligible dubutants to his home to view on his terms. Alice's sister Nancy was invited but Alice insisted on going to protect her sister. This is where the story takes off. I do not want to lead into more without giving away more of TBE story. I do wish the book had of been a little longer and that we got to find out about what happened to a few of the characters, maybe we will in future books? Enjoy...

5 STARS, HISTORICAL REGENCY ERA ROMANCE DRAMA

A very endearing Novella by Lorena Owen, giving readers this memorial storyline of a Debutante going into her 3rd season who is considered plain & bluestocking who gets mixed up with a rogue of a Duke who looks like a Greek god & is highly desired.

The actions of some characters is despicable & others make you want to laugh or cry. Henry & Alice, weave enough great action that makes this a worthwhile read. Recommend

Party Crasher

Determined to save her younger sister, innocent and naive, invited to a midnight dinner for the most beautiful debutante in London, Alice will chaperone! Duke can’t figure who or how she got in, but in finding out, nothing is ever the same !

Very good read!

Absolutely love these characters. Alice so sweet and self deprecating. Henry the bold duke who is so loveable. A very interesting plot that was a new twist I've never seen before. Excellent job Lorena!

It started out well enough but much more time needed to be spent on character development. For much of the book I found the behavior and feelings of both main characters hard to understand and therefore unrealistic.

Great beat up in potential, but it ended too quickly. More focus should have been put on the ending of the story. In that way finding out the bad guy would have made more sense. A decent plotline however, and a decent read.
