A Paranormal Shifter Romance

"Fated love means nothing when we can avoid extinction. One tiny sacrifice will appease the shadows. It's a shame, really. You've always been my pretty little monster."

Those were the last words I heard from my Alpha, my fated mate, before his Beta tossed me off the cliff into a land of no return: Demon Valley, the place where no human or wolf shifter survives. Legends claim there's an escape from the shadowy, demon-infested haven, but no one has ever returned to confirm the truth.

Except me.

There's a reason no one comes back from Demon Valley, and when I reach the end of its dark tunnel, I finally understand why. At that grand exit lies a place of rejected salvation. Our Goddess may have blessed me with the ultimate plot for revenge, starting with the Alpha of Nightmare Daemons himself.

Malifer Nightshade.
A beast of shadows. A seductive master. Creator of this forbidden valley.
And the rejected older brother of my Alpha.

To gain salvation, one must be tested. For me, that means destroying my bond with the Alpha I expected to spend my life with. After his shattering betrayal, it's the only option, and I won't deny the ultimate truth.

I'm angry – broken – and with the help of these very addictive shadows, I’ll show my old pack of deceitful wolves exactly what a pretty little monster I can be.

DEMON VALLEY PACK is a full-length (110k+) Paranormal Rejected Mates Romance. Recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations.

What is going on, people? How could ANYONE rate this above 2 stars? How? Please, someone tell me how this is a bestselling book! The characters are insufferable. The writing is atrocious. The story literally makes NO sense and it’s obvious the author takes ideas from other authors and puts not one or two but several or these ideas into one book, yet definitively lacks the ability to put together a cohesive storyline.

It’s time we had better standards. Given the success of this book it’s obvious a large amount of readers have none.

Call this review harsh, I don’t care. I’m sick of horrible writers writing copycat books (I’m not talking about writing for the market. I’m talking about writing for market and taking specific plot lines from other authors who’ve written for the market and inserting them into their books) filled with so many grammatical errors they’d make a copy editor’s head explode, and readers showering said books with 5 star reviews galore. It’s pure insanity.

Changed the Entire Story in the Last Pages

This book was based on a common premise, innocent shifter is rejected by the big bad. It doesn’t seem like the author could stick to one idea though!!! In the middle of the book it goes from a rejected mate story to some kind of a university romance to a hunger games type challenge and in the final pages she decides to take away the few constants that we did have! *spoiler alert* it turns out that her main character was never rejected by her mate because Nathan, the brother of the ruler of demon valley, is actually just the familiar of the ruler of demon valley who knew our main character when she was a child but doesn’t remember because his father who was in a coma, but he’s not in a coma now because it turns out that was just an alibi, was planning on using the girl as a secret weapon because she is the heir to a family line that we never heard about before. And the ruler of demon valley was never rejected by his meat because his mate stayed with the alternate personality Nathan who with some sort of a twisted time keeper? Who was really just with Nathan so that she could feed off the soul of his virgin meat? Except she was only a virgin because one of her alternate personalities, who was really an elderly mentor for our main character but then was killed and then resurrected but not really because the mentor was just a figment of our main characters imagination? Made a deal with the father that would keep our main character a virgin? See how confusing this is?!?! Oh! Apparently our main character is really Russian and they are off to find her secret twin sister? I give up!

Wait….what happened

I’ll start off with this I saw an ad for this book and read the blurb. Went to purchase and read a bit of the beginning of the book I was hooked. I should have read the reviews. This book was great until the last few chapters. There was a few times during the book I got confused because the chapters started a little off from the previous one. I’ll let that slide no big deal. It happens. The story line for this was great up until the end. It was so rushed and nothing makes sense. Mafia what?? Where did this come from at the last minute. This should have been set up through out the story. I’m super disappointed because this book started out amazing and I had such high hope and the rug was jerked out from under me. I can’t even put into words how I feel right now.It was like the chapter was so rushed it was hard to follow and made no sense. I’m sad about this.

What in the goddamn wattpad werewolf books is this?

I have no clue what the hell was going on in this book outside of it crammed a shit ton of wattpad werewolf book cliches together using spit for glue and then the soggy mess was dropped in front of me to read. I have no clue what the plot actually was, the chapters were choppy and confusing and the ending was completely out from left field.

What in the wattpad hell did I read?

This probably has be the zaniest series of Stone's so far. The heroine has penguin familiar. Something unique an I had to question how that familiar would help. But then Stone has a crazy setting. This story takes a while to get to good parts but there is plenty of other things happening. Can't dive further into the world and learn more about Lex.

This really pains me to admit. But this is my least favorite book from this Author. I struggled to get into it and even finish it. I had to reread the first few chapters before I could even move forward. I felt like this book has some amazing plot ideas and characters but the story was not well scripted. I have NEVER skimmed chapters in any of her other books. But this book for me had no real flow. And the ending….. I have no idea how we even got there. I understand the need to have a major cliffy and keep you interested for the next book. Avery is a pro and twists and turns and bringing a story together. But the ending wasn’t even slightly believable. The dots didn’t even come close to connecting for that story. Honestly with all that I can move past. I can admit that Avery is really good at bringing books together so maybe the next one will make the first one click. But what I honestly struggle is at the end of the book I felt like the dialog was just so endless to meet a word count. Once again I’m going to be very clear with this review. Avery’s book usually have a shit ton of dialogue it always comes together. But this books, idk. It just felt like it was written for a word count to be met. I’m going to read the next one because it’s Avery and I read all her books. I’ve re-read her books multiple times. This one I think though won’t go into that category for me. I’m sorry.

Chaos

This is so disjointed and fractured. It's broken up, mangled and hard to follow. And that's just the plot, well, what passes for plot. The misogyny, mental health slurs and r*pe threats land it in a totally different category. There are zero trigger warnings for anything in this book. Women are nothing. Property, slaves and breeders. Their entire lives summed up in those words. But from the very beginning not a thing makes sense. Women aren't respected but she goes through a ceremony where she gets to choose her mate? If women have no rights, how does that work?? How can you be a Luna if you have no rights? How can women have power but be slaves? How can a pack trade a weak member for a strong member of another pack? No pack is going to trade strength for weakness. Why would misogynistic males worship a goddess? You can't sacrifice something for a pack that doesn't belong to the pack. The timelines are all screwed up. Demons are supposed to be powerful but the dolls she runs into in the forest are literally dolls, yet demons? The scenes alternate between fast nonsense and slowed down nonsense. No one thinks about themselves like their inner monologues read. Slut shaming? Really? If women have no choice then they can't exactly be sluts can they? Manipulation via s*x is something entirely different and if a woman in that world can find any kind of power and use it more power to her. The revelations at the end seemed like a sudden tack on for some unnecessary tension twist. And her sudden behavior change completely negates the character altogether. And considering she's already 3 personalities in 1 body adding a new one is overkill. I read a previous book by this author years ago and remember the disjointed writing, lack of world building, and torturously contrived plots. Apparently that hasn't changed. I made it to the end. Mostly because I'm incredibly stubborn. And I want to point out just how awful some of the things in this book are. Like how young girls are encouraged to date to find their mates. Bonds form at 16. And they're pushed to date even before that. Which, again, why are bonds even a thing if women don't have any choices? Every single thing mentioned is contradicted further on in the story.

Kinda painful to read

*some spoilers*
Got to be honest, I read about 30% of this book before I gave up. This book did not seem to have a realistic main character, nor one I could relate to, in any way. The ages and timing is confusing, she was friends with the alpha for 15 years but she didn’t realise he had a brother, or that he “killed” him, or that he was an overall disgusting philandering being. She had just turned 18, but everyone thought she was 20, but again she was best friends with the alpha for 15 years! There is a big difference between someone being 3 &5 when you first meet them!
I’ve gotten 1/3 of the way through and she hasn’t started any trials, I find myself doing everything to avoid reading this.
I just think the back story for the main character is inconsistent and felt like it was a part of a different story.

I usually love reading books from Avery Stone, but I’m going to miss this series.

I couldn’t continue reading this book. The girl is chucked off a cliff by her mate because she is a virgin and the guy doesn’t want that in his mate. He wants another girl who is more dominant, skilled with bedroom activities, is prettier, and has money and connections. The main character survives due to a spirit’s intervention. The girl wants revenge, which is understandable. But the story is just…yuck.

I don’t like the main character. There’s a ton of swearing, and when the character viewpoint changed to the guy character, it was filled with sexual thoughts. I mean, I get it, you think the girl is hot. Let’s move on please. I don’t need to or want to know what you or the thing between your legs want to do.

The world building is not good. The guy character is apparently a man and a wolf and a demon all rolled into one. Like…how does that work?! The creation event of the shadow valley thing was confusing. The curse that is afflicting the pack is confusing. The whole reason behind it all is confusing.

It’s obvious that an editor didn’t go through the book. There are so many sentences that are awkward and hard to read/understand. For example, one sentence had nine prepositional phrases in it. I had to read it several times to understand it. It was like the author tried to use alliteration to make the writing unique and cool, but she failed dismally.

I stopped reading after I read a paragraph where the main character is talking to herself as she’s going through a trial to get a demon put inside of her (I assume that’s what it was anyway…she was stabbed many many times with purple energy swords, or something weird like that). She starts screaming about how she didn’t deserve what happened to her, and she screams out that SHE. WILL. GET. HER. REVENGE!!! I rolled my eyes so hard I got a headache.

I wonder what happened to the author to make her hate men so much? Does she have a nasty ex? I kept getting jilted girlfriend vibes from the main character.

I was hopeful about the story, but was disappointed. And annoyed.

Umm...

Ok so I'm so freaking confused right now. This book seemed to keep me that way. Everytime I thought I had an idea of what was going on something else would come out of nowhere and put me right back into that state of confusion. I just have no words because I'm so freaking lost right now.

I struggled with this story…first 5 chapters seem to be ok then it flips to lots of chapters of FMC’s inner monologue and self pep talks, that did not jive with first 5 chapters…got boring quickly. I got stuck early on with the timeline…If Malifer was sacrificed 5 years ago and Lexi is only 18 she would had been 13 when this happen and she was in the pack from small child, shouldn’t they have known each other..these thoughts were constantly plaguing me throughout the mass chapters of the boring self pep talks and inner monologue. Same goes for end of book…if Malifer is Really Nathan than what happen to the real Malifer and why is Laura being referred to his ex mate though Lexi was Nathan’s mate…fucking confusing mess. So I am extremely disappointed with Avery with this story…not sure if I can read next.

Ending left a lot to be desired.

The ending didn’t make sense. I can’t really say more without giving away the ending. I felt like the author just threw a bunch of twists into the end, that don’t add up.

What the actual F did I just read. The other reviews for 1 and 2 stars are spot on. Throughout the book, it was sometimes difficult to follow and I didn’t always know who was speaking. Also way too much internal dialogue. But then the last like 5% was such a random shitshow. It almost read like someone accidentally replaced the ending with the ending of a (Russian mafia?) book. So random in the worst way.

It's a bit of a stretch but give it a chance

I'm pleasantly surprised in what happen happened it a bit of a stretch but once you got your mindset into this book it kinda took off and that's saying alot because I'm a book blogger. It's hard to understand in the beginning and the ending is no better but the buildup in characters and how this whole valley was created to be a haven is a bit unthinkable. If you like slow burns and a twist on supernatural romances you will think this is whole other thing but give it a try and get you mind to take all these twists and turns with you

Penguins, Voodoo Dolls and Monsters! Oh MY! Another new series for Miss Stone and I must say I love it already! Our story starts with Lexianne being rejected by her fated mate and thrown off a cliff as a sacrifice. You would think that this would have been the most tragic part of her story but it isn't. Lex sure has her work cut out for her between the forest, the creatures, the other demons, the challenges and Malifer. I won't spoil anything for you but it was definitely a fast pace read for me. I flew through this book!

I will say one more thing. That ending... I had to reread it multiple times in order for my brain to process the information. It had be scrambling to see when the next book was due.

1 plot twist too many

First, the characters where very repetitive. If you didn't understanding the characters point of view after the first internal ramblings don't worry. Both leads will have the same thoughts again at least 5 more times throughout the book.
Second, the final plot twist makes no sense. To the point where you feel like the author isn't even trying anymore. There is no way to save the story after that. Nothing makes sense.
Only nice thing to say is the concept is awesome.

Used and betrayed by her Alpha, Lexi is sacrificed for her pack. Thrown off a cliff into Demon Valley, her death is supposed to appease and atone for the actions of her fated mate's father, the Pack Alpha, and help with the pack's curse. It also conveniently frees her fated mate to mate with a more politically powerful female. Instead, the Goddess intervenes. Lexi is saved. For revenge. She secures strong allies along the way and survives the tests of Demon Valley. Once there, she meets the creator of the valley, the original rejected member of the pack, Malifer Nightshade, the oldest son of the Alpha. She is the yin to his yang, and if they unite, revenge will be theirs.

This story is entertaining, for sure, but a mess. Information dumps, internal monologues, too many plotlines, and convoluted twists. Let's dive in. Who is Lexi? She's ugly, she's strikingly hot; she's submissive, she's an Alpha. She's weak; no, she's a secretly trained superior warrior. The only thing for sure is that she's a virgin. And while I'm venting about Lex, can I say the overuse of the word submissive almost made me stop reading the story! We get it, please stop repeating it, or hand out drinks for a drinking game. Beyond Lexi's character is MoMo, whom I adored. It's alluded to that she is a powerful familiar, one who turned down Malifer, yet there's no proof of this when Lexi is fighting for her life repeatedly. The same goes for Lily. Malifer is a man, wolf, demon, creator, and mafia lord. He's five characters wrapped up in one. Why is the mafia even thrown into this? Wasn't there enough of a story with the pack and revenge? It seems like a mishmash of story ideas all thrown in together. Also, there's way too much monologuing. Lexi and Malifer will live in silence because they are too busy having internal monologues to speak. Finally, the plot twists are a lot. They undo everything; erase known history and the character you thought you knew. I've read this author before under other pen names, and she's usually more focused. This one got away from her.

OMG! I was waiting for this to come out and it did and I could not put it down! So first off, the characters are great as usual. But we have this sort of disconnect between Lexianne the human and Lexianne the wolf personality wise. That is some thing I haven’t really seen before, or at least seen in the beginning of series or stories. So that was a little different, in a good way. And just getta look at that name, gorgeous! I would totally name my child that. The emotions were so heightened like right from the beginning. They were so many details that I really wanted to paint what was going on because it would be a masterpiece within itself. The ending! The! Ending! I cannot believe I was left with a cliffhanger! The twists will leave you nodded in a bow except you’re not a complete knot because you have so much ribbon left that you can still twist yourself up within it pretty easily. And I think that was the intention of this cliffhanger. The really cool Demon brothers! Are we going to get a story for them? Because I feel like they should if they’re not gonna be making a harem with Lexi. Like I really want to see what happens to them because I already love them. In short, I would rate this above five stars if I could. It was totally worth the wait! Avery Stone you rock!

I used to think “Chaos Walking” was the worst book I’ve ever read…. I was wrong.
So much internal dialogue that rambles and makes you feel like you’ve read gibberish. A story that could’ve been cut in half with so much going on that you end up not knowing what you just read. Characters that are the same person but also not. Dreams that aren’t properly acknowledged as such and conversations which you have no idea who is speaking. Flipping the story completely around in the lasts chapter to making even less sense. Part of me wants to know how the other books end just to find out if it’ll eventually make sense. But id rather have a tooth pulled than suffer through another book that Id rather light on fire. Disappointed because I’m pretty sure I’ve read a different book by this author and enjoyed it… don’t be fooled by the pretty cover, this book will shove every random book idea down your throat till you’re choking on confusion. Voodoo dolls, a penguin and secret siblings that may or may not actually be the same person or someone else in disguise…having the MC turn around and claim shes been pretending to be pitiful the entire book… what drugs did the author take while writing this story? Because they may be required to be able to follow and enjoy this story also.

Demon Valley Pack

Lexianne is such a complex wolf, she was raised as an orphan wolf in the Shade Moon Pack and was a Fated mate to the Alpha’s son. But it seems that Nathan Shade Lexi’s fated mate has made other plans…plans that don’t include a mate bond with Lexi, and he ends up sacrificing Lexi to the Demon Valley for “the good of the pack.”

Thus begins Lexi’s incredible journey through unexpected trials, mind shattering pain and unexpected pleasure that completely overwhelm Lexi at some points, but also give her the added incentive to remove any type of mental obstacles that currently blind her to her real and very formidable self.

This book is more twisted and darker than normal Avery Stone books….and I loved every moment of it! That ending was shocking! Was incredibly devious and totally unexpected in every way!!!

This is a MUST read! It is a MUST buy for my library and one of those books we will tell all our friends that they have to buy and read!!!

So quit hesitating and press the one click button now!!! Then call for a pizza for the family, put up the do not disturb sign on the door and enjoy all the goodness that this book is!

Positively baffled😳

Frankly I don't know what to think about the end of the book😳😳😳 It's certainly the f*cking biggest incredible plot twist I ever read. OMG! I'm shocked...completely.
Well, I would say that the book was extremly intense. I don't usually read about rejected mate, it gets me too emotional but the blurb of this book intrigued me a lot so I tried. And I'm really happy I did! The storyline flowed quickly and easily. There never had been a dull moment.
Lex is an amazing FMC: clever, powerful, compassionate, and likeable. The book talked about her awakening in some way. Well, just wait until the end for the BIG revelation! I loved as well Lexi's familiar, Momo, and the voodoo puppets, there were so adorable and funny!🥰
I have hesitated to give 5 stars to this book because the plot twist was sooooo enormous that I'm not sure that everything fitted exactly🧐 I had to reread the end to understand and there were still some unclear parts... At the end, why Nathan tossed Lexi into the Valley, prefering Lauren instead of her? Why did he kill Master Gaia? Where is the brother of Nathan?
Well, a lot has to come and it promises to be captivating!

Don’t waste your time

Picked up the book because it was recommended for me on Audible. Thought it was a pretty good idea and was looking forward to seeing how the revenge would play out (plus obviously she was going to fall for the brother).

However, it completely missed the “show don’t tell” rule. I only made it - skimming along to see if it would improve - to chapter 7. In that time there was zero to guess at, zero hidden, zero surprises. Every thought of every person was completely explained. Made it unreadably boring.

Given the end of the story was already obvious and there were no other elements of surprise there was no reason to actually read the book.

I feel bad for the author writing this, I’m certainly not saying I could do better. Avery Stone, if you happen to read this please keep going; and remember that great books allow the reader to think as they read, show don’t tell. Your idea was great, the familiar tropes mixed in w your demon world and the afterlife was pretty original and not many people can do that.
