Midnight Magic 2: Mirror Mischief

Rate this book
Midnight and Trixie are back in their second enchanting adventure!

When Trixie is at school one day, Midnight gets up to some mischief with the bathroom mirror and brings her reflection to life! The mirror-Midnight causes all sorts of chaos – safely on the other side of the glass. That is, until Twiggy the broomstick accidentally smashes the mirror, setting the destructive double free!

As Trixie, Dad and Nan get tangled up in the turmoil, can they work together and send the badly behaved magical cat back to where it came from before it’s too late?

A bewitching new series from the best-selling author of A PINCH OF MAGIC, Michelle Harrison. Told in rhyming verse and illustrated in colour throughout by Elissa Elwick.

My first children's novel, THE 13 TREASURES, won the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize. THE OTHER ALICE won the Calderdale Book of the Year Award. A PINCH OF MAGIC won a Dutch Bronze Pen Award. My books have been translated and sold in 25 territories worldwide.

Before becoming a full-time writer I worked in publishing as an editor, and before that, as a bookseller. Prior to that, I worked in bars, a bakery, and a second-hand record shop to make ends meet while trying to get my first book deal. I live in Essex and have a son, Jack, and two cats, Widdershins and Lucky.

My next children's novel is A CLOCK STRIKES MURDER, a sequel to TWICE UPON A TIME, publishing in March 2026 in the UK. My debut novel for adults is TWO LITTLE LIARS, a thriller partially set in the 1990s. It publishes in June 2026.

I was lucky enough to win a copy through a competition Michelle ran, partly in thanks to my own Midnight.

I loved the first book about Trix and Midnight but this one surpassed it.

This time sees Trix, Midnight, Doodles, Nan, Dad and Twig plunged into chaos after Midnight’s mischievous reflection escapes and goes on a bit of a rampage.

The poetic prose is delightful and the short rhyming stanzas are perfect for those younger readers. I found myself constantly giggling to myself throughout the book, especially when they are up the chimney and can’t go any further thanks to Nan and her derrière.

I like the note in the back about how Black cats tend to be the last ones taken from rescues or shelters. This will hopefully take away some stigma of black cats, and having one myself I can whole heartedly say that black cats are certainly fun……… especially at this time of year 😉

Sent as part of Scholastics LOLLIES awards.

Fun chapter book with rhyming verses throughout each chapter.
A kitten comes to live with a little girl and her family, but she can do magic. In this she causes quite a bit of mayhem with a naughty reflection of herself.
