The world has no shortage of moral ambiguity, especially in the emergency room. Dr. Jackson is the emergency room physician who seems to have the big house, beautiful wife, and an impeccable reputation as one of the most respected emergency physicians in Dallas. As the author peels back the layers, Dr. Jackson's life isn't so perfect after all. Filled with unique twists, complex medical cases and personal issues, Pulse proves that there is always more to the story! Pulse is the first book in the Vital Signs Series. If you loved Netflix’s Queen’s Gambit , you’ll love this series. Back of book includes book club prompts .  Here's what they're saying about "Pull up a chair and enter Dr. Jackson's world, one where his success in the emergency room is in stark contrast to his personal life. Walters brilliantly weaves a game of chess in such a way that mimics the story line and leaves you with a surprise ending. Pulse doesn't disappoint!" - Steve Ecclesine, Producer of Have You Heard About Greg? “Walters delivers a sharp and fast-paced read in this accurate portrayal of life in the emergency department and the costs of professional success. Behind the capes of these medical heroes are stories of vulnerability, fragility and imperfections. Perfectly paced with just the right amount of excitement and heart, Pulse is a perfect start of the Vital Signs series. This was an addictive read and I cannot wait to read more.” -Michelle Jocson DNP, RN Neuroscience Institute Director and bookstagrammer “Pulse pulls you in immediately and doesn’t let go! Its part mystery, part medical drama, part relational drama and a little dash of romance all wrapped up into a story that you’ll be unable to put down. When I closed the final chapter of this book, I was so glad that it’s just the first installment of the Vital Signs trilogy!”  -Leslie Shogren

Thank you so much to Kate Rock Book Tours and Judy Gaman for having me on the book tour for Pulse! I received a wonderful signed paperback in exchange for an honest review and feature, all opinions are my own!

This is a fast paced medical drama that reminds me of Scrubs mixed with Life in the ER.  I couldn't put it down and ended up reading it in two sittings!

Coming to you in between shifts to say that I totally flew through this book. I loved the bond that the ER staff have, whether they are joking about Dr Elohssa (😂😂😂) or kicking butt saving lives. Most of the patients and case studies are pretty realistic, the characters feel real, and there is more than a little moral ambiguity to go around.

I could totally plug myself into that team and go to work with them any day!  The drama and teamwork, friendship and friendly rivalries, joking and tears, people just needing ten damn minutes to ourselves after a code ... it's real!

Dr Jackson is a leading emergency medicine physician but his home life is a mess. His wife is absolutely crazy and I loved his daughter.  The main characters are pretty complex, as in Dr Jackson and his daughter, while the rest are pretty shallow.  They're nice, smart, a great team, and I'm rooting for them, but we don't get too much into the rest of the team.  In future books maybe! I definitely want to see more of the other characters based off the glimpses in Pulse.

The home life vs work balance is the other thread in the book. No one is perfect but no one deserves a life of torture either, and there is little room for error and distraction in medicine.  I was really hoping Dr Jackson and BJ ( daughter) would be able to get away from the abusive wife. BJ is a strong young lady and I loved the father daughter parts.

I just love medical dramas. I was at 1000 stars until the big event - and in the vein of honestly I'm going to bluntly say that the big event didn't work. It just did. Not. Work. Seriously ***** the terrorist, at a mall in Texas? Why? I found it hilarious but I guarantee someone is going to call it offensive.  I want a different catastrophe (Jacqueline could have caused a car accident trying to run Elizabeth off the road? Yeah? Literally anything else)!! so badly, but the results were the same, and I loved the ending anyway. I still totally recommend the book though! Thank you again for having me on the tour, all opinions are my own ❤

Thank you to Judy & Kate Rock Book Tours for the #gifted copy. I got to read this one several months before publishing and even got to share a blurb on the back cover.

I was a huge fan of the show ER and Grey's Anatomy (at least for the first decade) so was excited to read a medical drama series in that style of ER cases coming in each day, relationships between the staff and family drama at home.⁣

I binge read my copy and my only complaint is how long I have to wait to get my hands on Book 2!!!⁣

In this first installment, we are introduced to the fast pace of the ER where there are different medical cases everyday and Dr. Jackson handles them with care and ease. From the outside, he seems like he is living the perfect life with a big house, pretty wife and model student daughter. However, Dr. Jackson is living with regrets after one case that went very wrong where he wasn't able to save the patient. ⁣

When I was pregnant with my daughter in 2006, I discovered reruns of ER. I became engrossed in the series and watched it every morning. The emergency room setting is one that I really enjoy…there’s lots of action and plenty of drama. Pulse, by Judy G. Walters brought back those fun memories of spending time with Dr. Green, Dr. Ross, Carter, and all the other characters (I actually named my daughter Ella, which is the same name as Dr. Green’s daughter). Pulse follows Dr. Jackson…a very dedicated doctor with several issues in his personal life. Doctors always seem to live elusive lives so I always find it fun to see how they are human and make mistakes. The story was full of great snapshots from the ER…the reader meets several patients with interesting experiences.

Chess is also a big part of the story. I was never great at Chess, but reading so much about it made me want to dig my Chess board out of the game closet.

Overall, this was a very fun story to read with lots of surprises. I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book!

I received a copy of this book from the author to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Filled with unique twists, complex medical cases, and personal issues, PULSE proves there is always more to the story!

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆

"Doc, sometimes there's nothing you can
do to make a difference. Other times, it's everything you do that makes the difference."

I never thought much about good versus bad doctors until a few years ago when I was diagnosed with a rare, chronic, autoimmune disorder. To get this diagnosis, I endured countless tests and spent hours in the waiting rooms of specialized doctors. One thing became very clear: everything hinged on the doctor's competency and attitude. The truth is that I encountered a few unbearable, close minded, pompous doctors who had no business practicing medicine. Fortunately, I also found many wonderful kind doctors with positive attitudes and open minds.

Why tell you this? PULSE chronicles an emergency physician's work and home life, thus highlighting the ways his choices and personal character impact the lives of others. It helps to remember that doctors are, despite the enormous responsibility they carry, just human beings themselves. Regardless, doctors cannot bring problems to work. Dr. Jackson struggles with conflict at home, self doubt about his own capabilities at work, past regrets, fear of the future, relationships with colleagues and his daughter, and more. This one man carries a heavy load, albeit, in the life he chose, and much is expected of him.

Above all else, PULSE excellently humanizes Dr. Jackson in both the profound and mundane moments that stitch a life together. I experienced a gambit of emotional highs and lows throughout the story; however, one thing remained constant-a connection. The presence of humanity is evident in every aspect from the employees to the patients to the chess board and the cat. PULSE is a dramatic riveting story of the intangible something connecting us all and one man's determination to hold tightly to it-despite the universe's best attempts to severe all hope.

ABOUT THE SERIES

PULSE is the first book in the Vital Signs Series, followed by BREATH then PRESSURE. Each book in the series gives a behind-the-scenes look at emergency medicine, thrusting the reader right into the action, all while featuring the backstory of a specific character. All Vital Signs Series books are wrapped neatly around a game of chess. Even if you've never played chess before, this unique approach will be entertaining nonetheless!

Thank you Author Judy G Waters for having me as one of your early readers and blurbing for your amazing book I just loved!!

Walters delivers a sharp and fast-paced read in this accurate portrayal of life in the emergency department and the costs of professional success.

Behind the capes of these medical heroes are stories of vulnerability, fragility and imperfections.

Perfectly paced with just the right amount of excitement and heart, Pulse is a perfect start of the Vital Signs series.

This was an addictive read and I cannot wait to read more.

*I received a free copy of this book with thanks to the author and Zach Gutin at 64 Squares Publishing. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

After quite a shocking opening, this book settles into following the two ongoing strands of main character Bobby Jackson’s life. One is his crazy home life, including an abusive wife and challenges in his relationship with his daughter, plus a new friendship that has the potential to develop into something more. The other is his professional life, in which we see his cases and colleagues at work in his career as an ER doctor, some positive and some sadly not.

I was reminded a little of the Doctor Finley stories by A.J. Cronin, but brought into a modern urban ER department, rather than a little rural GP surgery! The family and relationship drama alongside this hospital setting also brought to mind any number of televised medical soap operas.

Some aspects of the main plotline felt a little bit far-fetched, but the main characters are well-developed and engaging and most of the cases presented feel realistic. Plus there is an interesting little chess side-plot for fans of the game. The balance between these different elements, the personal and professional, and the pace of the story-telling all worked perfectly.

I would definitely recommend this to fans of tv shows such as ER, Doctors, Holby City and similar, or anyone interested in a medical drama that highlights the humanity and vulnerability of the human beings who have to take lives into their hands on a daily basis.

I am not always one to dive head first into a series that is not finished. I have a hard time waiting for the story to continue, but when I saw this opportunity to be a part of a book tour come across my email, I couldn't say no.
Chess, romance, and the medical field? Sign me up! It's like Grey's with the added bonus of CHESS! Which, admittedly, I do not play. Checkers is more my speed.

In Pulse, Dr. Jackson is a brilliant ER doctor whose life is falling apart form Page 1. He's got two kids, a boozehound wife, and a busy schedule that doesn't allow for much else. And then tragedy befalls his family. Flashforward and things have NOT gotten better, and he's miserable at home, but thriving at work. His coworkers love him. So does his daughter, but his wife despises him, and verbally and emotionally abusive. He falls into the "I stayed for the kids" category and regrets it every day. But what is a doctor to do when he can't control his own life?

The story unfolds at a rapid pace, and I found myself flipping through the pages as fast as I could, knowing full well that I was going to come to the end and have that "What NOW?" feeling immediately.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Grey's, Chicago Med, or the like. It's engaging, you never really know what is going to happen next, and it leaves you wanting more.

Pulse is a love letter to hardworking, dedicated members of the medical community. The story follows the ins and outs of a Texas emergency room through the point of view of Dr Jackson. We see the tragedies and triumphs of the day to day ER with cases that would confound even Dr House and some that are routine but will really tug at your heart strings.

Dr Jackson himself has lost a child and is suffering through a bad marriage and we see how those things impact how he practices and relates to the folks on his staff. He's a great father to his remaining daughter and a kind mentor to those he works with. The thread of the stories touch on with grief, physical, emotional and substance abuse as well as the power of kindness and love. There was a great balance between compelling medical cases and a character driven family story. I'd say this one is Virgin River meets ER. It's going to be a series and I'm looking forward to seeing how these characters progress and what cases they tackle next!

Also, if you're a chess fan there is a fun throughline related to chess that takes place through the story.

Thanks to Kate Rock Book Tours for a copy of this novel. All opinions above are my own.

PULSE had a slight Grey's Anatomy feel, which I loved. The book revolves around a busy emergency room in Texas and focuses primarily on one doctor, Dr. Jackson, who endures an unimaginable tragedy in the prologue. What follows is both the aftermath, the fallout at home, and the daily ins and outs of the ER, spotlighting both his patients and his professional relationships.

The series will highlight a different staff member each book, and I hope one is centered around Sergei, the Russian custodian who stole my heart.

Fast paced, enjoyable read!

This one started with a prologue that had me tearing up. And it just held on from there. I loved this character driven drama that focused on the life of an ER doc, his patients, his coworkers, his home life, and threw in a fun focus on chess.

This was a quick read that I really enjoyed. And this book is precisely why I don’t normally read many series because now I have to (impatiently) wait for the next book.

I received an advanced copy in exchange for my review.

I didn’t expect for it to be short as it was, but I enjoyed it. Overall, I so appreciate the story from a point of view of a father. All I want from a character who is a father is to be a good dad. Bobby definitely struggled there at points but who doesn’t, especially while grieving. As someone who has lost their dad the moments between BJ and him were my favourite and I wish there were more.

I can’t remember if I’ve read a book set in the ER, I don’t think so. What an interesting setting. There’s moments between staff where they feel like family then there’s new patients and it’s life or death. One moment Jackson is celebrating getting an award or someone’s birthday and another moment blood is everywhere. I so appreciate doctors and nurses and their sacrifices more than before which I didn’t think was possible, considering the last two years with Covid.

I think about the book still and I think that tells of a good story. Especially the scene of the two girls from the skittles party. PSA don’t medication not prescribed to you.

Just a small thing, unfortunately, I didn’t care the chess aspect. My dad loved chess so it was one reason why I agreed to read Pulse. It was just not for me, I’m too much of a visual person and couldn’t follow the game unless there was an image which was sometimes included throughout the book. That was helpful and I appreciate that, but yeah.

“Pulse” introduces Dr. Bobby Jackson, an ER physician in Texas. He succeeds in every aspect of his professional life but fails when it comes to the relationship with his wife. When his young son is wheeled in as a drowning victim and he’s unable to save his life, Dr. Jackson almost falls apart.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. My day job is as a physical therapist at a trauma hospital, so I’m generally interested in medical cases and appreciated the depictions of organized chaos throughout the tale. I also really enjoyed the depiction of Dr. Jackson in more than just his role as a physician. His relationship with BJ was endearing and written in a way that seemed natural. I found Jackson’s wife to be a challenge- not because she was a seemingly terrible human being- but because she only seemed to be that. Find the full blog review at heatherlbarksdale.com

First, I want to thank Judy G. Walters and 64 Squares Publishing for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

WOW!! WOW!! WOW!!! Judy G. Walters Pulse is a 5 Star fascinatingly, addicting. jaw dropping, nail biting, emotionally charged, intense read will make you feel like you are a fly on the wall in the ER. Ohh how this satisfied my constant craving for a medical drama book! Out of all 10 books I have read this year, this one is my favorite!! You must rush out to buy and clear your schedule to binge read!! It. Is. So. Amazing!!

What I am so excited to learn is that Pulse is part of The Vital Signs Series that Judy G. Walters has planned!! If book 2 and 3 are just as intoxicating then I must continue on with the series. I think it is fair to say that Judy G. Walters now has a new fan! Then again why am I just learning about her now?!

The graphic designers did such a great job creating such a cool yet Erie cover for Pulse. It intertwined two focal points that were pertaint in the book. However, the layout was so uniquely done-and the colors were perfect!

Having an Medical Assisting and Medical Office Assistant educational background I could appreciate and comprehend much of the terminology, testing and diagnosis that were discussed in this book. Being a patient myself I also could understand some of the testing these characters were going through.

What I found incredible about this book was not only was Judy telling us a story but she was also giving us medical education in the process. With this she brought awareness to some sensitive but important subjects.

There were so many times on many different occasions where I wanted to reach into the book and just hold the character. There was an occasion where I actually broke down and cried during one touching and powerful scene.

Judy gives her characters some amazing storylines with some monumental messages. One message that I got out of the story truly nailed it on the head and touched my heart deeply.

One unique thing about these storylines is they seemed to intertwine and somehow have some sort of connection to another.

If you are a fan of Chess then you will appreciate that one particular storyline. Unfortunately, I am not skilled or knowledgeable on the game so I was not able to appreciate that aspect of the book as others might. I did however enjoy the Chess Board Illustrations.

Nothing could have prepared me for the ripped from the headlines climatic ending! I was at the edge of my comfy chair and jaw dropped open in total shock of what was unfolding! Nobody saw this one coming!! Just incredible!!

Judy incorporates a list of book discussion questions that would be perfect for a book club meeting.

Before I gush all about this read, I want to tell you about the authors. Judy G Walters is the pen name for Judy Gaman and her husband. Both are involved in the medical field and both love chess (I’ll explain the chess part in a bit).

Last year, I read Judy’s memoir about her friendship with a 100 year old woman named Lucille. I loved that book so I was curious to see if I would enjoy Judy’s fiction writing and let me tell you I LOVED IT!!

This book is focused on Dr. Bobby Jackson and his life as an emergency room doctor at St. Mary’s Hospital in Texas. It peeks into his home life with his really awful and self centered wife, Jacqueline.

We also get to meet and learn about some of Dr. Jackson’s team members in the ER as well as dive into some of the patients he sees during his shifts.

The beginning of this book literally give me chill bumps and at that point I was hooked.

I’m not in the medical field but I loved the way the story unfolded and how so many characters and their actions intertwined.

There is also a running chess game between Dr Jackson and one of his colleagues, Dr. Roberts. I don’t know anything about chess but I’m going to reread those parts because I feel like there is deeper meaning in the chess moves and I want to spend some time dissecting those.

This book has everything…action, drama, and a bit romance.

This is the first book in a three books series and I wish that ALL the books had been released at the same time because I would be binge reading the series!!

If you watch medical dramas on TV or just like a good book (I think we can all say we like that) then this book has got to be put on the top of your TBR list!

I admit to being a bit of a medical drama fan. In my younger days, I didn’t miss an episode of ER! It was one of my favorite shows to watch. Then as an adult, of course there was Gray’s, although I only watched the first 7 or so seasons. Now I watch New Amsterdam which is another fun medical drama. I get super queasy if they show or talk to specific about medical issues, but I love the strange cases and how the doctors have to solve them. And of course, the drama between characters is always the best part.

That’s why I really liked Pulse. It’s more than just one case after another after another. It’s the characters. The people behind the stethoscopes that are interesting and the drama of their lives, and the bad choices they make, even though they should know better. It’s so much fun when characters are interesting as well as the setting – it’s like having your cake and eating it too! There is also an element of Chess to this story which also makes it really fun, since I like Chess as well.

All in all, reading this book has made me realize that I really don’t see very many medical drama books, at all. Like even in the bookstore. I think this must be a completely forgotten about genre and I’m so glad that Walters has come along to bring this genre back to life! If you enjoy medical dramas, you must pick up this series. I really enjoyed this one!

Sometimes reviewing books is as easy as breathing, because you go with your gut and dump the feelings that a particular book elicit from you... What we call gushing.. But others is a bit more complicated than that. This is one of those times.

Pulse is a medical drama, that has a great plot.. it allows us not only a first hand experience of what goes on in the ER of a hospital -- Fans of Medical TV shows will get a kick out of this -- but also reminds us that Doctors are not Gods but mere human beings despite the enormous responsibility handling lives that they have.. And as Humans their messed up lives affect their work and performances, just like our main character in this story.

I have dealt quite a lot with both spectrums of the Good and Bad doctors and perhaps this storyline touch me a bit more deeply.. dampening my enjoyment of the story..

I did loved the Chess references, I love chess and it was a very good addition to the flow of the book.

It's an interesting read I won't be so biased on my opinion to put it down if it doesn't deserve it. It is very well written and the pacing is great you will read it in a couple of sittings... it feels like you are watching an episode of ER.. So even if this book wasn't a huge hit for me in particular I can see how it can be for many other readers out there..

*A Thank you to the publisher and author for allowing me to read this. This is my honest and unbiased reviews*

Hello Fellow Readers,

It's been awhile since a book had me hooked so quickly, from the first heart-tugging chapter to the last I couldn't stop turning, I almost wanted to ignore real life. Now, in Pulse we meet Dr. Bobby Jackson an amazing doctor who on the outside seems to have everything, but unfortunately there are cracks in the Doctor's personal life. With everything that has been going on in the world, this is a stark reminder that Doctor's are human.

Walters does an amazing job at keeping your attention, I never thought of having a medical drama interwoven with chess but Walter's does it pretty flawlessly. Described as Grey's anatomy meets Queen's Gambit, I also detected hints of M*A*S*H and ER, shows of which I am a big fan of. I am not as well versed in Chess or those shows so I can't make too many comparisons.

The main characters were pretty great, but I do hope in the next books Walter's goes into more characterization with the rest of the team. There was also one big event in the book which I feel didn't work and seemed a little out of place, I feel this could have been replaced with something else and have a more meaningful dramatic impact.

Overall, an amazing start to this medical series.

“People put what they want the world to see on the outside, but what’s really important is always on the inside”

If you are a Grey’s Anatomy fan you will love this book!
Once I started I couldn’t put it down.

This book (first in the series) follows Dr. Jackson and his experiences in a busy ER room. After a horrible tragedy, that starts the book off, Jackson must keep his focus on his daughter and his work in order to rebuild his life.

Jackson’s job and daughter are his everything especially since his wife “hates” him. Jackson is a character you will immediately fall in love with; if you ever end up in the ER you would want him as your doctor.

I tried to understand Jackson’s wife Jacqueline, but no matter how hard I tried I decided I didn’t like her.

Different patients come in to the ER with unique cases and as the novel develops you become close to the medical team. The medical team all handle the patient traumas a little differently but they work as a “family” to help each of their patients.

I love that each chapter ends with a chess move.

Summertime reading, for me, is often romcoms and other light hearted reads, but I like to throw in a little drama and something a little more fast paced just to make sure my heart is still pumping!

It is a perfect time to pick up Pulse, the first in an upcoming Vital Signs trilogy by Judy Walters. If, like me, all books set in the medical world are your thing, grab this!

It is a very character driven drama focused around Dr. Johnson, an emergency department physician in a busy Texas hospital. He feels like he can control things (as much as one can be in control in a chaotic ED) at work but home is an entirely different kind of chaos, and he is out of his depth there!

The stories of his patients he saw in the emergency department, his coworkers, his relationship with his daughter and the chess game interwoven throughout the story kept me turning the pages to see what on earth would happen next. Now I am anxiously waiting on the next book in the series!

Meanwhile, this one is out now and you can read the start of what I think will be a great new series!

Thanks to #KateRockBookTours and @JudyGamon for the opportunity to join this tour and enjoy this book!

This book is the first in this trilogy. It is a great start to this trilogy. I can't wait to read the next two books. The incorporation of chess into this storyline is an intriguing plot twist. I was not sure how the chess was going to play into the storyline but once I saw how it was introduced; it made sense and works well.

There is actually no main character in my eyes. While, it may seem like Dr. Jackson is the main character; as he would tell you, it takes a team and the doctors and nurses are in it together. Thus a huge reason that I really loved this book. Everyone was so engaging and they felt like "real" people and not just characters in a book.

If you are into medical dramas, you will want to check out this book. Pulse had me so engaged that once I started reading, I was hooked. I finished this book in one afternoon.

This book was like watching an episode of ER (which I recently binge watched again!)

Dr. Jackson works in the ER. One day, his world is turned upside down and he becomes a bit broken. He moves to a new hospital and keeps his family life a secret from everyone there.
His wife is horrible and hates him and his only bright spots are his daughter BJ and his fellow ER doctors and nurses. (One of which he plays a game of chess with-a move a shift.)

I would want to be treated by Dr Jackson if I needed it. He's such a kind man. I love the supporting characters Elizabeth and Sergei. What Dr Jackson does for Sergei in the end is so wonderful and made me tear up.

This was a fabulous start to what I think is going to be a great series!

Pulse by Judy G. Walters is the first book of Vital Signs Series.
This is a story about Dr. Jackson who is an elite ER doctor. He is living a demanding life both in his ER room and in his personal life. Behind his professional success, you see vulnerability and imperfection. How behind extremely successful people there is a human with dreams, desire, weakness and ,….
Dr. Jackson also loves to play chess with his fellow doctor and the author remarkably explained chess moves to different events in the book.
It is an action-packed and quick read. If you are a fan of hospital drama and chess, then this is a must-read for you.
Many Thanks to kate Rock for having me on this tour.

This book follows an ER doctor and the struggles of his life in both the ER and his home life. This book was semi-predictable, as it is very clear in the beginning who the love interest is going to be. Although the ending was unexpected, I thought it was a bit out of place and random. I also expected it to be super suspenseful but the book overall was not suspenseful, just specific moments which revealed the answer pretty quickly.

I did love the character development between Bobby and Dr. Roberts, as well as the relationship with BJ, however many parts of this book felt like un-important additions.

This is a quick and easy read and I'm interested to see what route the next two books in the series takes!

Thank you Kate Rock Book Tours and the author for a complimentary copy!

Calling all Grey's Anatomy fans, if you are a fan of hospital drama with turns that are completely unexpected, add Pulse to your TBR list. This book had me hooked from the prologue when an ER doctor has an unexpected visit from his wife and ten year old son.

I would describe this book as a quick read that is action packed full of Emergency Room situations and a lot of family dysfunction and drama.

This is a marvelous book about the life of the doctors in the Emergency Room of a hospital. Dr. Jackson experiences the worse day of his life when his 10 year old son is brought into the ER as the victim of a drowning accident. As he struggles with this loss, he is also struggling with a seriously failing marriage. This novel is about medical and domestic drama and is guaranteed to keep you hooked. ER doctors are heros and yet they face the same tragedies and problems as everyone else.

Thank you to @judygaman and @katerockbooktours for the #gifted copy.

Pulse was a page turning, drama filled book that follows an ER doctor who seemingly has it all on the outside, but what you see is not always reality. We get glipmses of real life in the ER and how experiences shape us. We also see that even our superheros are human. This book was everything I expected it to be - fast-paced, gut-wrenching, sad, and maybe a bit of karma! Add it to your TBR!

I was into this book before I even finished the prologue. Like an emergency room, this book did not slow down, there was always something going on but it didn’t feel like too much. The ending was a bit dramatic but I think it’s the perfect set up for book number 2 in the series.
I’m not normally a series person but I’m actually excited for the next books in the Vital Signs series.

In Pulse we follow Dr. Jackson. His life both in the ER and at home are grueling. A bright spot in his life is an ongoing chess game with a fellow doctor. The author brilliantly juxtaposed each different chess move to relate to the happenings in the book. I loved it.

Both plot driven and character driven, Pulse is impossible to put down- I read the majority of the book in one day! Though the ending fell a little short for me, I loved the first 95% of the book so much that I highly recommend reading Pulse!

Cheers to all the medical workers who constantly put their own needs for the betterment of others!
