Micca Michaels is a Paranormal, Why Choose author. She’s extended her writing to Contemporary once and is looking forward to writing books in more genres. She lives in the countryside of Kentucky, tucked in the woods. She has held or holds many titles and she’s proud of all of them: daughter, sister, auntie, bestie, wife, momma, author and most recently, oma.

Micca is passionate about making sure people take care of their mental health. All the lessons in her tough life have taught her some very important things, but if she was to pinpoint her favorite, it would be: “Never allow anyone to affect your mental health in any way. No one should hold that power over another, but if they do, they should feel privileged and handle it with care.”

At almost 50 years old Micca's an empty nester and has chosen to expand on her love of reading and write books of her own. Her love of sending readers on an emotional rollercoasters isn't coming to an end any time soon and neither is her dream of being named cliffhanger queen. Luckily for her readers, not all of her books end that way. Micca says she won't put herself in a genre box, but she will admit that Paranormal Why Choose is near and dear to her heart and soul. She says that she feels that's evident in her first series, The Dire Secrets Series. Oh, and Micca's name is pronounce Mee-Kah.

This book is rewritten, which means I will take both my review and my rating down. I won't be reading the rewritten version, mainly because I won't have the time to do so. However, I'm pretty sure others will and will let you know that the potential that has always been there very likely shows in the rewritten version.

When checking reviews for this book, please make sure to check when the review was posted or updated. The rewritten version goes live June 15th 2022. Most reviews before then will most likely be based on the old version.

Everyone who gives this book (another) chance: Have fun reading!

Dire Secrets is the first book in Micca Michaels’s Dire Secrets series. Raven is a young woman on the verge of coming into her powers and shifting, but she knows nothing of what is coming. She’s living a simple life and is expecting to simply have the house to herself while her parents go on a weekend retreat. But fate will take her parents from her with a cruel attack from a rival pack and her life will change as she leaves the United States to go live with family in Ireland and learn about who and what she really is.
Dire Secrets is the first book by Micca Michaels that I have read. The storyline holds potential but doesn’t really reach it. Raven is written as a well-behaved teenager who is respectful, kind, and basically everything good that one could hope for especially in someone her age. As such, I hate to say it, but it makes her very bland as a character. I expected in certain moments a bit of attitude or even rebellion but it just rarely comes if it comes at all. I like that this author chooses to combine shifters and witches because it brings an interesting element, but I don’t get the need for secrecy as to that there are dual sides to themselves.
I think that for me, this author’s style of writing this book makes it hard for me to really get into the story. For me, the story just doesn’t flow. There are also some time skips in certain areas that cause the story to not make as much sense. I think that adding in noticeable passages of time would help and maybe also adding in who the current focus is because it seems to jump from one character to another rather quickly. This creates some confusion especially when a character is talking. I’m also disappointed that no one (of the older characters) knows the prophecy. I feel that this is a major mistake. A prophecy is something important that should be remembered by at least one character (i.e. Gma). The fact that no one remembers the prophecy or knows all of it off the top of their head is really disappointing.
I’m rating this book a soft 4 out of 5 stars. The storyline’s potential is there, but it just isn’t really reached. Maybe if the book had been written in a different “person” then I think it would have been more engaging. As it is, I’m not sure if I will continue this series.

I enjoyed this book. Raven is a strong FMC and I was sucked into her world. Micca paired two of my favorite Paranormal creatures - witches & Shifters, so bonus points there! I enjoy multiple points of view and thought it was handled well in this book. Her men are hot and the scenes are spicy. I truly can't wait to read more!
Well done Micca, this was a wonderful debut. Now if you will excuse me, I need to jump into book 2, cuz this girl can't wait to find out what comes next.

Raven is nearly eighteen years old and has opted to stay home while her parents go off to participate in their annual snow run. Unfortunately, she can't get rid of this nagging feeling that something is off- and we soon learn that her parents and the rest of the pack aren't alone. After an avalanche occurs Raven learns that she just lost both of her parents. Her family comes from Ireland to help her get through what's happened and to bring her back to Ireland to ascend to her eighteenth birthday. She always knew she was a witch but her other half was always hidden from her (as is pack law). Now she is a part of the Whitewood pack and a part of a greater destiny. Unfortunately, there is a rival pack that wants Raven, they took care of her parents and now she is the next target. Will Raven be able to come into her own powers and will she figure out her destiny before it's too late?

Raven is a likable MC. She is smart, follows her intuition, treats everyone decently, and actually would make a good leader. Raven's family is a funny, close, and supportive group that really helps with the storytelling, they really do make great supporting characters and really prove useful. It is revealed that Raven will have four mates and we meet two of them in this book. We get a hint as to the third but it literally is a sentence and then snatched away. I have a theory of who the fourth is and it will be interesting to see if I'm right and how they meet.

I did find this book a little difficult to get into at the start. There are multiple POVs, which is normally ok, but they switch without warning within the chapters which can throw you at first. After a while, I think I got used to it but I will say it's not my favorite way of storytelling. That is probably my only negative thing to say about the book so all in all a positive read. A fresh idea that was filled with all sorts of twists and turns and will leave you hanging at the end!!!

Micca Michaels is a new author, her book, Dire Secrets, is her first book ever and she did a good job. Dire Secrets is a multiple-points of view urban fantasy reverse harem. The story centers around Raven Sullivan, a young witch, as she goes through trials and tribulations, learn about who she is, and trying to fulfill her destiny. The story is filled with magic, family, love, mystery, and action.

Raven is eighteen years old and she just lost both of her parents, her family comes from Ireland to help her get through that and what's to come. Raven processed things fairly well, she had her break-down moments but she let her family support her while taking charge of all that needed to be done. Raven came across as mature for her age and handle a lot of things that needed to be handle with a level head and a clear heart. After everything is done she heads back to Ireland with her family and that when things get crazy, Raven already knew she, her parents, her best friend Jacqueline "Jack" and her parents are all witches, however apparently there were things her parents didn't tell her and everything comes out including the fact that they are wolf-shifters, Dire wolves to be exact and now Raven is one too and will belong to the Whitewood Dire wolves pack in Ireland.

I liked Raven, she kicks butt, is smart, follows her intuition, treats everyone decently, and actually would make a good leader, and to see her with her Jack was great. The two girls have a very close friendship, they are like family to one another and while Jack wasn't in this book long, she did make an impact. Surprisingly enough, Raven's family is funny, close, and supportive. Raven and her cousin Tristan are very close, the teasing and joking they do, not to mention that she feels like she can confide in him. Tristan's father Liam adores her, and her grandmother Bridged "gma" supports and messes with them all, I can see the bond they all share and it's great. A couple of guys from the pack, Aidan, Aaron, and Clancy are introduced, not mates but are important, and just getting to know them.

Two mates are introduced in this book, Connor who Raven has known since she was five and has always felt connected and another who she's just getting to know. The guys already love, support, and care for Raven, there's a connection there and no jealousy. Connor is adorable, he is attentive, protective, and loving towards Raven, knowing all along that they were to be mated. I wanna get to know the second mate more before I pass judgment but he seems okay. Raven gets at least two other mates who haven't been introduced and I have a theory about who they might be and I'm hoping it's not the case at least for two possibilities.

I'm conflicted on what to rate this book because I had a few issues. One thing was the repetitive wording so close together got a little annoying. Then there was the mechanics of the wording, things felt off, the words didn't really flow that well in the beginning, it got a little better later in the book. Finally, the pacing, in the beginning, was very slow, the author put too much work in some scenes such as the handling of packing up the house, and spent too little time on other scenes that would have been better with more insight. One of the best parts is that the story is told from so many perspectives, normally you only see that in high fantasy books but I liked it in this one, just needs a little work.

However the story itself was really interesting, the Blackwood Dire wolves (who seem like jerks and skive me out) got a hate on for the Whitewood wolves for some mysterious reason, attacking and spying on them, out for revenge for unknown reasons, This book packed with all sorts of interesting things, assassins, challenges, magic, steam, transformations, prophecies, kidnapping plots, there are freaking Leprechaun shifters among other things, I would have really liked to know about the leprechauns, There are seers on both sides who seem to know a lot but not the whole picture so everything is in pieces. Then the story went and ending on a tiny cliffhanger.

For the most part, Dire Secrets was an entertaining read, is full of possibilities, and a good first book. I enjoyed the book, the characters were good and the plot was great and I'm totally invested in this story now. While there were issues I'm gonna give the author a break since it's their first book. I most definitely want to give the second book a go because I really wanna know what happens next in the series.

Secrets are revealed...

What can I say about this book? Well, probably a lot, but I'm sure you don't want to be reading an essay when all you're after is a review, so I'll do my best to cover the most pertinent points.

The world-building is amazing. You are introduced to it through multiple points of view, ranging from major characters to minor ones. While some people may find this disconcerting or even confusing, I loved it. By taking a holistic approach to her story, Micca Michaels has been able to create an intricate tapestry, hinting at possible plot threads here, and giving depth to characters there. What starts off as a seemingly tangled knot of otherwise unrelated strands, soon unravels and weaves into the beginnings of what promises to be a picture full of complexity and beauty.

The characters are complex, and even the villains will provoke your sympathies, if only momentarily. More than two-dimensional cardboard cutouts, their motives are clear, even if the reasoning behind them is still shrouded in mystery. I can tell you now, that Jack, Tristan, and Killian are sure to be fan favourites with their cheeky attitudes, smart mouths, and irreverent humour.

While Micca Michaels has left us all on tenterhooks with that cliffhanger of an ending, rest assured you don't have to wait to find out what happens next, as book two in the series - Dire Confessions - is already out and available to read.

Is this book for everyone? No, it's not. But if you enjoy a world where the paranormal is the norm, where magic is real, and where one young woman will fight to ensure the light and blessings from the Gods and Goddess will shine on, then I think it might just be the book for you. I can't wait to see what happens next.

So much potential. The plot is pretty good. Becca aka Raven is going to be something powerful? pivotal? The story just d-r-a-g-g-e-d. I think my main issue with it is that the story is told in 3rd person POV and you're just sitting back reading the action as it is overly described to you... I could really give two flips about the excruciating detail for the ski lodge where Becca's parents are staying...

There's also some plot points that aren't seeming to develop. Is Damian really tied into the pack or is there a mutiny brewing? I didn't like the seemingly gratuitous sex scene with Breen, Kiaran, and Damian. It didn't feel like it advanced the plot at all - and seriously, Breena just lost her mate (which by all accounts is alledgedly fated) yet she gets busy with both Kiaran and Damian? And if the girls find their mate at 18 during their ascension then where the hell are Kiaran's and Damian's mates? So many distracting questions.

Anyway, the plot was interesting enough for me to want to read the second book when it comes out. With that said, I'll likely skim that one like I did this one.

This book was brilliant! This was such a unique take on shifters, witches and the over all paranormal world. Micca Michaels completely wrapped me up in her story, consumed all my thoughts, and gave me one heck of a story that I never wanted to end!

The strength and resilience of Raven was awe-inspiring. Her whole world has and is about to change and she takes everything in stride with supportive family and friends at her side. Raven doesn’t even scratch the surface of the power and uniqueness that resides within her, but with her mates at her side she is determined to find out!

The secondary characters added an incredible layer to this story! Characters like Tris, Conner and Jack really added a nice dimension to the storyline and led to some great humor, tender moments, and loyal and loving relationships that made my heart soar.

This story is the debut novel from Micca Michaels, but you would think she has been writing forever! Prepare for a story that will have you wrapped around its finger!

Raven's story starts off with a bang. If you haven't yet delved into Micca Michaels' works, this is the perfect place to begin.

Witches, werewolves, and prophecy abound in this tale, which takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, beginning with a heartbreaking loss that sets the stage for a gripping coming-of-age journey.

If you're a fan of why choose and reverse harem genres, if found family and fated mates resonate with you, and if you crave alpha males paired with strong females, then Dire Secrets is a must-read.

Micca Michaels masterfully weaves the story from multiple perspectives, drawing you so deeply into the narrative that you'll be stunned when it ends. True to her style, there's a cliffhanger that will leave you hanging on the edge, but fear not—book 2 is already available, so you can dive right in!

So I went into this book thinking a new author to read and I have to say I was not disappointed. The beginning was action packed and just brought you right into the story. Raven's parents are killed before her ascension or her 18th birthday whichever way you want to put it. Raven moves to Ireland with her Grandma and there she meets her first mate who is also her first love Collen. Yes her first mate. At her Ascension she finds out she will have 5 mates in total. Her second mate is Killian who is a leprechaun. At her Ascension she shifts into a White wolf with the Raven birthmark. She is the double raven who will restore the balance between the living and the dead. There hasn't been one born in 300 years. The Black Dire Pack alpha wants to kill her to in his mind right the wrongs that were taken against his pack 300 years ago when the Raven was killed. He is a little off in the head. Raven and her team begin there journey to fulfill her prophecy. She knows what she needs to do just not how she is do it.

First off, I really liked the story. I'm a sucker for the whole secret destiny/have to find your mates trope. While it wasn't the most unique storyline there were many elements that were new and interesting.
My only big hangup with the book was that the pov switched constantly. I'm not sure if this threw me off because it was new and different or if I just didn't like it. I like books where the pov switches between main characters, but this book switched to random side characters too. I guess a positive to this style would be that the reader really gets a complete view of things, but for me ... It felt weird.
** Ooo, one more thing I didn't love was there was a ton of time and detail spent on unimportant things. I guess that makes sense with the multiple pov's.

This is just fantastic! Our female mc Raven is strong and feisty and facing changes, big big changes as we follow her on her journey! It’s fast paced and full of suspense and danger, there’s witches, shifters, magic, trials and tribulations and secrets are revealed. There’s so much going on in this book that I was drawn into this amazing world and did not want to leave. The storyline is addictive and exciting and the characters are fantastic and Raven is totally a bad ass and I just love seeing interactions with her family. There are also twists and turns that some i did not see coming and the twist the author has put on this paranormal world

I really enjoyed this book. At times it was a little confusing with the switch of pov's but the overall story and even with the added extra pov's made the book so much more.
We get to see the book from Raven's side plus also see the other side of those that are wanting to capture her. Giving the book more depth and more questions of why and who.
It was great to see the great lengths her family and Alpha and the protectors she is given while she goes to find the leprechaun chieftain.
This book was such a great ride right up to the cliffhanger ending that you have to keep reading through to get to. It's definitely worth it 100%

I f*ucking LOVED this book! Raven is so insanely strong as an FMC and takes charge so beautifully! I love to see a no-nonsense bad ass leading her people! The smut was on point and super spicy!

The story was so well written, I really loved having multiple view points so that I could really understand the motives of each perspective. As well as understanding their emotional view points and true feelings behind interactions. Takes the story from 2D to 3D so easily!

I love Killian - he's my guy. But the men in here are all pretty swoon worthy! Damn!

I can not WAIT to see what happens to Raven after that ending!!

Has promise. 3.5*

This is a really mixed one for me and I struggled to rate this.

I liked the concept of this story and how Raven added to her harem as the story progressed but there is just something about the way this was written that I struggled to connect with. I loved that there were loads of different POVs and that these weren’t solely those of her harem but even when they are a character POV it still felt like the story was being narrated rather than you being immersed in it as with other books I’ve read.

That said, I think the underlying story is really clever and I am intrigued as to what will happen next to Raven and how all the pieces join together.

Magically Delicious

So let me start by saying this is the first book by Micca Michaels that I have read. I was drawn in to the story right away but then was a little thrown off at the number of POV's going on. I do really love a book with multiple POV but I have never read a book with so many. After reading for a while longer and adjusting to the difference I actually started to really enjoy the 360° feel of getting the story from all the different characters. I thought that the plot was unique and unpredictable and I can definitely appreciate that in a book. I am invested in the characters and story and am very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series!!

Great premier book for this new author. The story includes witches, seers, dire wolves, leprechauns and more with lots of wonderful characters and some rival wolves who this author gives a fair share of attention so we get to know them as well as the main group of characters. A story with twists and turns, intrigue and plots, it is a slow burn RH that ends on a cliff hanger leaving you wanting to read the next book in the series. Although I found the grammar a little awkward at times, the story line was strong enough to make sure I kept reading. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed the concept and the characters, and I am excited to see what happens next. I will say that the beginning is kind of hard to follow and jumps from characters to character rapidly without clearly indicate who we are following which made it a bit confusing for me (this may just be preference). The beginning was also sort of slow, I felt like it lingered on them packing up the house for longer than necessary, but the story definitely picked up pace after that and I was hooked. I am excited to find out who Raven's mates are and what the opposing pack is going to do next.

Wow! Newly published author Micca Michaels comes with shifters, witches, magic and puts it into a story like I haven't seen before. I really enjoyed this. It doesn't happen often you come across something entirely different. Yes, I've read shifters and witches books before but not like this. Loving Raven as the FMC and how she copes with the changes. Prophecy is there but along with that heartbreak and a really good story. Only thing I don't really like is story is told in third person so that takes getting used to as you don't see that too often but that only took a minute of adjusting.

ohh title is accurate AF lol Secrets....check! Right at the beginning Micca throws a curve ball at us! I was not expecting this book to start off like that but dang. It does have different POV throughout each chapter so you are getting everything at the same time for each character-it was confusing at first but then it made sense. Becca/Raven is almost 18 and knows she's coming into her witch powers..but thats not all and her life will also change in many ways. But that ending! ohhh...need book 2!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

What a great start this is to a new series. Raven is one awesome FMC. We start with her as a teen where we follow along as she suffers some horrible loss only to come out stronger on the other side. The author creates a different take on the supernatural world which was a fun adventure to take making it feel very unique. I cannot wait to see what happens next. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

Intriguing and genuinely a different take on what we have come to expect in paranormal books. Great plot with plenty of twists and turns and a lot of action along the way.
Becca is a likeable M/C and for a first book its a brilliant read.
Some really enjoyable moment along the way but the depth of feeling for me was missing at some key emotional moments which is why i have 4 starred it.
Slow burn RH that ends on a cliff hanger so be warned don't read if you automatically review everything low for Cliffies as it wouldn't be fair to this first time Author

This book had some really interesting twists and turns. Becca's real name is Raven. She finds out that she is not only a witch but a wolf shifter as well! Some packs are out to ruin her family. She finds out who 2 of her mates are during her path to redeeming her parents legacy. One is a wolf shifter and the other is a leprechaun shifter. Its seeming like she will have several more. Can they find her other mates and will they be able to survive a war that is iminant?

This is the first book I read from this new author and was not disappointed. Raven aka Becca is headed to Ireland after a tragedy. She tries to figure things out with her Gma, Uncle Liam, cousin Tristan and Aunt Celeste along with the boy she's loved since she was 5. This book has wolf shifters, witches and Leprechaun Shifters. There are seers, alphas betas ,enforcers. It has everything you could want. It does end in a cliffhanger and is slow burn but worth reading.

I cannot stress this enough, push through the slowness at the beginning because the rest of the book is so worth it! I love the multiple POV’s but I think I would like more clarification on who is speaking as I found myself lost at times, which distracted me from the story. The action was intense and the heroine kept up so dang well with her men. I can’t wait to see what happens in book two, it’s going to be insane!

I was given an ARC, so I am writing my honest voluntary review.

Brilliant beginning

What a start. I had no true idea what this story was about. However as it unfolds it gets deeper and darker and more dramatic. Raven a bright seventeen year old about to start her journey in life has that path changed. Partially for the worse partially the better. Her future is not set in stone nor is that of the people whom surround her . Looking forward to the next book

This was the first book from this author and I am excited to see this author progress. This story had a unique and creative plot and I was eager to read this story. The characters are interesting and fun and I enjoyed the concept. It did take me a few chapters to really settle into the story, but once I did, I was hooked. Things really pick up and we are taken on quite an adventure. The ending got me! I wasn’t expecting that! I am looking forward to more!
