The Australian Outback is a vast landscape rich with natural resources, but it’s an ancient land imbued with magic — some forgotten, and some just simmering underneath the surface. Solace, the small opal mining town in outback New South Wales, has both. But when big time mining company EarthBore sets up camp north of town, the Exiles are worried. There’s no telling what kind of impact it will have on the seal they’re protecting...and if it fractures, it could unleash a devastating power onto the world, leaving it in ruin. The moment resident opal buyer and vampire Hardy looks into their new neighbours, he runs into an old acquaintance who makes one thing clear — their arrival is no coincidence. Solace has something they want, but the problem is, Solace ain’t selling. Hardy’s painful convict past collides with the Exile’s future in spectacular fashion, and as the threat grows, they will have to make their most difficult choice yet. Stay protectors...or go to war.

2022 bk 49. The residents of Solace, Australia continue to reveal themselves to each other and the reader as the town continues its role as protector of the seal. The seal itself and what it hides begins to take on a character all of its own - the seal doing its best to keep, no that would be a spoiler. Let's just say the town has its hands full. Particularly when not one, but two vampires appear. Both known to Hardy and both epitomizing the opposite ends of the good/evil spectrum. The plot continues to thicken and draw the reader in to this fantasy/paranormal story.
The Lightening Ridge police have given up on the search for the biker gang and Vera’s dark cousin has left. With both crises over, the exiles of Solace hope for a break. But the exploration of the iron ore deposit on Walawala Station is going create problems
Now that their underground house is finished, Kyne wants to go back to work on his opal mine and Eloise is not comfortable about it. Coen is concerned about the large iron ore deposit that is hidden in the Dreaming and how it’d affect the Seal. And Hardy is feeling restless and unsettled. Then EarthBore mining comes to the area with trucks loads of equipment.
Footnote: 1) Every time I read a book from down under or just out of the US, I have to switch my mind over from miles to kilometers and from Fahrenheit to centigrade. After all, 40 degrees Fahrenheit is cold.
Fave scenes: Kyne’s bath, Eloise using the jackhammer, finding Andante and Kyne’s gift to Eloise.
The continuing story of Solace, the ten supernaturals living there, Andante and Coen, is set in the outback. That alone would be enough for me. But there’s evil walking the red dust, searching for a way to unleash the power hidden away. The calamity. I loved that there were laughs and tears, the strengthening of ties, and relationships. All through the need to protect and preserve. I am so loving this series.
A rage tag of supernaturals take on the old ones intent to get free only it backfired spectacularly,an old vampire thought he could get back to his home from which he came from only to be killed by one of the ones he made.I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and may fortune smile 😃on you always 😁from a bookworm that is looking forward to reading more of them
