For Bill Black, the journey of a lifetime begins when he is struck by a car while standing on his second-floor balcony. Improbable? Definitely, but it’s just the beginning of a new normal for the man who will soon be known as Longshot, as he finds himself drawn into a forty-year old mystery involving thousands of unexplained disappearances. His search will take him and his companions far from everything they know and understand when they step through a portal to an alternate Earth, and he may find that duty, honor and friendship are not solely human traits. In the end, a desperate race for survival will decide the fates of those who remain. If they are going to have any chance at all, they are going to need the luckiest man in the world
If you like books where humans learn to live with different species, time travel and go to different worlds to live, you need to read this book. I could not put it down . I am very hopeful that this will be a series.
I judge a book by how well it keeps my attention and this one grabbed and didn't let go. I love the interaction with sentient alien creatures. All the concerns were well thought out like the details of surviving in the woods. Other concerns were also well thought out like the moral implications of our advanced technology impacting less developed cultures. Lots of other aspects of ordinary people dealing with extraordinary is circumstances were well written. That's my favorite kind of fiction. A book that you can put yourself in the characters place and wonder how would you cope with the circumstances.
