Trials of the Four Olympians

Rate this book
My name is Iris Dimitriadis, after visiting the Oracle of Delphi on my 18th birthday, I'm shocked to my core, to find out that I am a demigod! Yes, you heard correctly, a demigod! And one that is an offspring to one of the mighty gods. I never believed in the Greek gods until I started showing superhuman abilities, and this drastic change of events has awakened a forbidden prophecy, that no mere mortal could ever hope to complete. The barrier between the god's and humans has never been crossed before, well at least not until now. Everything changed on that fateful night, when the gods received a prophecy from the Oracle of Delphi exclaiming that Mount Olympus will be overthrown and destroyed by an evil fiend, and that only four demigods would be able to save them from destruction. These four demigods, offspring to the mighty gods of Olympus, will hold the fate of both worlds in their hands.

Unfortunately, as much as I tried to enjoy this book I simply couldn’t.

The premise started off interesting, however very quickly you realise the lack of depth in the writing, especially in relation to the characters.

I read half of it before I made the decision to drop it, because it was extremely rushed, with very little pacing. The storyline would jump from one major event to another, and while some would appreciate a fast paced story line, I can’t argue that this is one that makes sense. It reads kind of like an information book, and there is no space to flesh out how the characters are feeling, what their relationships are like with other characters etc. [kind of spoiler] The MC starts off not knowing who her father is, and then finding out her father is Zeus, and there isn’t much reaction there. It doesn’t flow very well.

At the point where I dropped the story, we begin to get POV’s from other characters. And in the first chapter from Hades’ son, we learn that he is attracted to the MC. Not a hint of this can be found in the previous chapters.

It was heavy on the grammatical errors, and had one of my biggest pet peeves - paragraphs of short sentencing. It had a lot of subject hopping too, i.e. the chapter starts off talking about something that is happening in the present, and the next paragraph is about their character (Alexandros’ POV comes to mind). There isn’t any buildup at all.

The characters are incredibly one dimensional, and we see the typical tropes being played out here. The female MC that has no idea of the world but turns out to be amazing at what she does even though she has had no prior training short of one session. The male MC who is mysterious and a loner and no one likes him etc. No substance really. This book may not be for my age range but I can’t see many teens enjoying these overplayed tropes either.

I appreciate that this is the authors first book, and self-published at that. I may choose to pick it up again at some point, however it is unlikely.

Pro-tip - don’t always take TikTok recommendations!

This book really sucked... Like really sucked. The author was in a love triangle with commas and semi-colons. The grammar was atrocious. The characters were flatter than Nebraska. There was multiple spelling and grammatical errors throughout the whole book. The characters were all over the place. When she changed POVs, the characters had the same tone of voice as the MC. Things didn't make much sense at times. There is an Olympic taxi service that can take them wherever they want to go? But they had to go through the labyrinth, which apparently spans the entirety of the globe, to get to South Carolina? NYC to SC is about a 14 hour drive. The author is Australian so I don't expect her to know this. The Cyclops just hanging out in the Shenandoah National Park was just weird. Each problem they faced was fixed in about a page. They were never in any real danger since all of them were extremely over-powered. This was a really shitty "adult" fan-fic of the Percy Jackson series. How the fuck are you going to market this book as "Adult Percy Jackson" but censor the word shit and crap? Crap? Really? Why the fuck was that censored? This book was really shitty. I will not be picking up the sequel.

I haven't read any novels for a while but when I came across this one I was intrigued. Purchased a soft cover and to my surprise I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Great story line and nice character development. I also totally loved the fight scenes! What sets this novel apart from others in the same genre is it's accuracy in Greek Mythology. So many novels always paint a positive outlook to the gods but not this one! Well done to the author..... can't wait for the next edition

I found this book on TikTok and was immediately intrigued, honestly the use of social media by the author to promote this was extremely well done, it worked on me 😂🥰. Sotirios is a new author and this was her first published novel, the book follows four children of various Greek Gods as they embark on an adventure together to basically save the world.

One of the main things I loved about this book was the plot. It was easy to follow and fast-paced; I read this in one sitting and couldn’t guess what was going to happen next. I also felt that the contextual information given was brilliant, the author clearly put a lot of work into research and it was evident throughout the book.

The magic systems were explained well and they definitely weren’t overly complex. Additionally, the author included illustrations (maps, characters etc.) that really established the storyline and pulled me into the story. I also felt that there was a good potential for romance and would like to see more of that storyline in the next book in the trilogy.

However, there were definitely some issues with the book that meant it wasn’t a 5⭐️ read for me. I felt that the characters were somewhat underdeveloped; with the book being so short, there wasn’t much opportunity to understand or connect with the characters.

I felt as though I could have read more within the book, the adventure aspects sometimes felt as though they were cut a little short. I’m also hoping that the character development both individually and with one another will happen throughout the remaining books in the trilogy.

Overall, I felt as though this was a solid read. I enjoyed the plot and found it easy to read. The target audience is YA so I’m taking that into consideration and definitely feel that it is a brilliant starting point for younger readers trying out the mythology/fantasy genre for the first time.

An extremely lovable story of a young Greek girl, from the beginning when she receives a prophecy, to the very end of her trials.

The characters she meets along the way bring tension, love, betrayal and most importantly friendships.

This is the authors first novel, and she has complete control over her story.

I definitely recommend and can’t wait for the next books in her series!!

After reading the preview on Xlibris I knew I had to have this book. Less than 24 hours later I’ve finished it with complete sadness knowing I’ll have to wait for the sequel.

The author’s passion for Greek mythology shone throughout the novel.
The characters, described to the very bone, are genuinely likable and successfully portray the idea that there is sadness connecting to being a demigod. The twists within this book are ones that I could not predict myself. I’m left now still unsure of which characters I can trust.
I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the next book!

Trials of the Four Olympians is a Mythological Fantasy. A real feast on Greek Mythology.
Iris, a 18yr old, after finding out that she's a demigod, receives a prophecy to join other three demigods and set out to carry out a task to save the Mount Olympus.
Iris, herself is the narrator in the story. Every details on the Greek Mythology is spoken out.
All Mythological Facts are layed as it is. The author had done a good job in research ,I have to say🙌🏻.
The plot is unique, and narration is undulating.
One might feel like ,that the story ground is similar to Percy Jackson series. But ofc it might me similar as both are based on Greek Myth and is abt summoning demigods to carry out the prophecy.
But this plot is entirely different and soothing and engaging.
So insightful too. The bond that the characters shared is impressive.
I loved the plot and the characters and the development of the story.

This book is similar to Percy Jackson and any Greek mythology book out there. As a debut novel, I am highly impressed, and that is why I'm giving it 4 stars. For those giving it a 1, I don't think they're considering that this is a debut book and that the writing can only go up from here. With that being said, TOTFO left me wanting more. Every time I put it down, I would think about it constantly, great character development and an engaging storyline.

Great job Rebecca, and I can't wait for the second novel in the series!

Truly amazing how such a young writer can tackle such complex subjects. Reading this as someone who isn’t up to speed on Greek Mythology, I wasn’t just gripped by the twists and turns throughout but also found a love for mythology. I fell in love with the characters, and hope to learn even more about them in the following sequels.

Must read!!!

"But Cronus, being afraid of a prophecy that he had received from Gaia, that he would soon be overthrown by one of his sons, resulted in him eating his own children. He definitely won the ‘Best Father in the Galaxy’ award."

From the very first page I enjoyed this read. Loved the back story of Greek mythology and then that punchline of humor let me know right there an then I was going to enjoy this read.
The chapters in this book are very short which honestly I enjoyed very much. Makes it easier for you to stop if you need to.

Alexandros (hades son) was an awesome addition to this story. Dark and Brooding to a complete turn around by the end of the book.
Tia (daughter of posiden) shy, beautiful and brave loved her character.
Theo (Apollo son) his character will have you shaking ur head in a good way lol.
Iris (Zeus daughter) loved watching her grow and come into herself, her strength and her powers.

This story stuck to the fundamentals of Greek mythology and the author added in her own awesome twists and turns. It was enjoyable from the first page all the way to the last. Honestly if you like the Percy Jackson series there is no reason i wouldn't see you enjoying this as well. I read this book in 1 day, which says something because normally even if I really enjoy a story on average it takes me 3 days. I can't wait to see what this author comes out with next.

Just as the title, the story revolves around four Olympians - the offsprings of four supreme Greek Gods. As per the prophecy, these four teenagers are on a mission to protect Olympus from evil.

I'm always so fond of Greek mythology and its blend with the modern world made it more interesting. The friendly narration makes this book stand apart from the rest of the mythological retellings.

Speaking of the characters, be it the protagonists or antagonists, or even side characters are very well defined. There are actions, adventures, love, emotions, and much more. It is fast-paced and well-executed. If you are a beginner who wants to read about Greek mythology, this book would be a good choice.

For someone who likes to read Greek mythology and is attracted by that World this can be a great attempt on the reading part .
Although the sentences are a little haywire and not that actual novel pattern still that doesn't hinders the enjoyment of reading and imagining this book , the book has done great on storytelling and fictional lines and this has been made ever so intresting with the help of realistic emotions that has been enjoyed by the characters which I actually liked .

Always in for a strong female character even if she has fictional powers this story is no different .One major thing that I would like to point is the way the powers are being imagined ,i mean its easy to create characters but its really difficult to justify the characters with the powers and qualities they are assigned with and author has done a great job in imparting those powers .

Very enjoyable read!
I have seen a few negative reviews that these anonymous readers were expecting some raunchy adult scenes, I’m not sure what they were expecting as it’s marketed towards teenagers and young adults!
Anyway... I was tossing up buying the novel before hand, because of these reviews, but I am extremely glad that I didn’t listen to them as it was a very enjoyable read.
Well written for such a young author.
Once ordered the novel arrived in the post super quick and once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.
Super excited to also find out that it is part of a trilogy and can’t wait for the next novel in the series.
Fan for life!

I really enjoyed this book that I could tell had a lot of research behind Greek Mythology and its origins vs what we think we know.

I liked the characters and enjoyed the quest filled with mythical monsters and friendships. I also enjoyed the clever introduction.

It was a great read but I wish it was longer, I felt some parts were a little rushed and swept over.

I also wish the eventual betrayal wasn't highlighted so much so it was more of a shock.

But I am glad there will be more books and I can't wait to see what else our Four Olympians get up to.

Honestly, I started this book with high expectations, but I couldn’t find whatever I was looking for.

First of all, it’s so short. Under 200 pages is never enough for any fantasy book. We have little to no backstories about the characters. I don’t even think characters were able to be their own separate characters. There weren’t anything significant things differencing them from each other, other than their parents.

We learnt most of the important stuff not within the story, but in parts given much like a textbook pages. The story was too fast, so many parts which were implied should be a really big deal were written shallowly. (Minotaur, the Labyrinth overall, the last battle)

The only good thing about this was it could never be boring as no filler chapters existed. Still, I felt out of place considering many young adult books included detailed descriptions and characters with a lot of depth.

I can’t say I hated the way the books was written, every author has their own way of writing and the reader must respect every different style. I’m just saying short and this kind of fast books aren’t for me.

But here are the three stuff that happened I’ve hated: The betrayal of Jake. Maybe I wouldn’t suspect him if the characters didn’t point him out, (because there weren’t any way to suspect anyone as we knew so little about how characters acted like) but after everyone started saying he was acting suspicious, I think every reader could see what was about to happen. What I didn’t understand is why the hell would everyone just do nothing about him when they knew he was no good. They literally just walked into a trap.

The second: everything happened as they wanted them to be. There weren’t any troubles on their way excluding the Minotaur and the Cyclopes.

The third: I hated the way Luke came back to life. He died, and he should’ve stayed dead. Not everything should have gone like a fairytale. At least it could’ve given Iris a bit of development.

I’ve never written this long of a review before, but I just finished the book and in a very short time, so I still had my first and unmixed thoughts without reading the other reviews first.

It’s only the first book, and I’m sure if this book was rewritten it could’ve gotten more stars from me. Maybe the second book will be more enjoyable as we know the characters.

As a Greek who's been brought up with the mythology and culture. I honestly find this book a 10/10, it may be the fact that the author is Greek also, so she knows her own heritage.

I love each and every character in this novel (except Jake...), the main characters with their unique Greek names: Iris, Alexandros, Theodore, and Anastasia.
I highly recommend this book if you enjoy Greek mythology! I cannot wait for the next book in the Trilogy.

I love Iris as a character so much! I think Sotirios does such an excellent job with this book and I can't wait to read more from her. I think she can be the next Rick Riordon haha. The characters are wonderful and the storyline really reels you in from the very start. The entire plot is well developed and though the novel was a little small I enjoyed reading it thoroughly. If you're looking for something interesting to read, I'd really recommend this!

The Trials of the Four Olympians is the debut novel of Rebecca Sotirios. Being in the YA genre, readers will find a lot of common themes and characters that they will likely enjoy but with a Greek mythos. The mythology was clearly well researched, and it was often the parts containing explanation of the history that displayed the author’s best prose and passion (not to mention some fun humor), and I would’ve loved even more explanation and detail, e.g., the Labyrinth and Minotaur. That said, the author definitely added twists and turns to try to keep things interesting and new.

A straight-forward plot with fast pacing made for a quick read suitable to the intended audience. While not flawless in execution, it is an enjoyable story, and a great first book from this author, who very obviously has a lot of potential. I look forward to reading future books and seeing how she grows in her craft.
