"Gareth Goossen describes worship as entailing more than music, as entailing all of life. To that one can only say a hearty 'Amen.' But he does more than this, for he not only describes the goal of worship, doing so in a very down-to-earth way, but he also gives us the practical steps for progressing towards that goal. Worship does involve all of life, and I warmly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in entering into this reality." -Dr. Peter H. Davids, author, pastor, professor, and New Testament scholar "At the very heart of worship is our longing to know and love God! Worship Walk helps bring us back to that heart in a compelling way! There are many powerful truths covered in this book-I love the way Gareth helps us to remember the truth of the cost of worship. God is more committed to forming his character in us than he is in providing for our comfort. This book is a timely reminder of what worship is all about and how we are to walk it out in our lives." -Brian Doerksen, world-renowned songwriter and worship leader "Worship Walk is an amazing manual for Christian living. Gareth has taken foundational aspects of Christianity and shown them through the lens of worship. As a worship leader who has also found great joy in worshipping God through things in addition to music (mountain biking, for one), I found this book to be very affirming but also very challenging!" -Kevin Boese, songwriter and worship pastor

About the Author:
Gareth, with his wife Gayle, live in Breslau, Ontario, Canada. They have their three adult children—Chris, Dan, Carine—and three grandchildren—Ashton, Ava, Gabriel. They are actively involved in leadership responsibilities with The Meeting House—their home church in Kitchener, ON. The focus of the church is the irreligious message of Jesus and bringing his presence to the people in the community by actively engaging with them in acts of compassion. A church that is attempting to worship walk—intersecting the worship of the church with the life of the community!
My Review:
We shouldn't look to the church worship service to be our entertainment. Gareth J. Goosen, the author has written a phenomenal book on how our lives and worship should come together. And how worshiping God should be something that we constantly do. He also points out that there are many different forms of worship. To quote from the book, "When our focus deteriorates to style, preference, and format, it is no longer worship."
Some people will change churches based on the style of the worship service, maybe the music and how it is delivered. This is actually something we shouldn't do. The author goes on to say that worship is not something we should sit on the side lines and watch but should be something we should participate in.
We give up ourselves as we stand before our Lord and worship Him. It will cost us, but there is nothing more important than being with our Lord and showing Him how much He means to us. The author has given a wonderful commentary on worship and how it should infiltrate every part of our lives.
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from bookfun.org.
In a world constantly besieged by parochial and superficial views, we often find ourselves in the throes of equating music with worship. This tendency is not confined to one specific group of believers, but, sadly enough, it is a worldwide spectacle. It must be understood that while music constitutes one important aspect of worship which contributes to our worship, it is not the final word. While our understanding of worship is lopsided, the Bible is pointedly clear on the issue: We must worship in spirit and truth!
To help Christians better understand what it means to worship and directs them to true worship, Gareth J. Goossen, who has conducted workshops and seminars on the theme of worship, offers relevant and practical insights in his book Worship Walk: Where Worship and Life Intersect.
Worship Walk is a three-part book with practical steps to show how one’s life and worship should come together, and how one should live out the life meant to be lived as a true worshipper. The first part entitled Getting Started details the essence of true worship. The second part Walking It Out offers practical steps to help the life of a true worshipper. And the final part is Tying Up the Loose Ends which sums up the entire book.
A careful study of the book teaches that worship is not about us, it is not a way of life, not entertainment or what many of us wrongfully perceived as a weekly activity.
Then what is worship? Gareth points out that worship is about God, an intense longing to know and love Him, cultivate a deeper relationship with God, and the ultimate desire and conscious effort to get close to Him as far as humanly possible. It is living your life as worship to God. At the heart of all true worship is the humble submission before God which engages all of our being, and not just the praises we offered through singing.
Worship Walk: Where Worship and Life Intersect is a must-read book, containing insightful and practical truths, which is a timely reminder of what worship is all about and how we are to walk it out in our lives.
Gareth J. Goossen is know throughout Canada, the U.S.A, and South America, as a director and pastor of Make Us Holy Ministries.
In his revised edition of Worship Walk, Where Worship and Life Intersect, this author presents 22 chapters on how the Christian can encounter the living God. He reminds us throughout his book that people should not attend church to be entertained, but to find God. He wants people to ask themselves: "Am I striving to find God throughout the week, not just on Sunday?"Many chapters contain valuable suggestions for the Christian to better his worship walk.
The author reminds us that people have needs, wants, and desires in their worship, but these should not be the focus; true worship should be on God. The author also reminds us that " Worship and entertainment are not synonymous."
Worship should be in all aspects of our daily worship walk.
This book was a challenge to read and at times repetitive in its presentation of concepts.
I was given this book free of charge from Bookfun for my honest review.
This book is a wonderful way to improve your daily walk with the Lord and learn to worship Him in every are of your life. Definitely a must read and a re-read for me.
A great book written by a fellow Canadian, which along with the topic of worship is what pulled me in, but it was the writing that kept me reading, thinking, praying and learning.
The book helps us to see what worship is, vs. what some of us may have assumed it is. Gareth often speaks directly from his life, which just as easily could have been me. Talk about a wake up call. In Chapter 2 WORSHIP AND ENTERTAINMENT ARE NOT SYNONYMOUS WORSHIP IS FOR GOD "I had fallen victim to the comfort of the worship tradtitions I was used to. The format I loved had become my key to worship, not God. When the familiar happened-the melodies, the harmonies, the instrumentation, the great words of my favorite songs-I felt the desire to give myself to God (and I did). But when those weren't there, I withheld my praise. It was more about what I wanted than what God required. Worship is not about the music; it's not about the style, the format, or the entertainment; and it's not about the language. Worship is about focusing your heart on God! It's about desiring him to receive your praise!" pg. 18
The amazing story behind Matt Redman's The Heart of Worship is shared, and we can't help but 'get it'.
As one whom grew up playing in the band, I rarely knew the words, just the music. It was a whole different ball game to become part of the congregation and now read see and sing the words. I have not played in the band for years, but still find myself drawn toward the music more than the words so this is definitely something I am working on.
Chapter 6 SILENCE A TOOL OF WORSHIP "Silence scares us because it doesn't seem natural. Sometimes I wonder if we are so afriad of what we might hear in the silence that we refuse to allow it. Or perhaps, we are afraid that we will hear nothing at all...and truly feel alone. pg. 50
Who hasn't attended a prayer time and heard the uneasiness during silence? Especially in today's busy society it seems many feel the need to always be on the move, using our time wisely. In Psalm 46:10 we are told to, "Be still, and know that I am God". When was the last time you were still? Have you ever thought of this as worship to God? Lots to learn in Gareth's book.
Chapter 8 KNOWING AND OBEYING HIS PROMPTING LISTENING TO THE VOICE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT "The ability to recognize God and to be open to the surprise of his voice develops as we are active worshippers....Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that God speaks in only one way." pg. 70
This one sentence is definitely a great reminder: "Knowing his voice--his prompting--is one thing. But obeying his prompting is equally important!" pg. 71
So the next time God urges me to do something, no matter how far out it seems, I need to be willing to step out and do what He is calling me to. God doesn't need me, He can use someone else, and if I don't follow through, He just may do so, and then whom is the real loser in this situation? Me!
"True worship opens us up to the needs of others. When we worship in truth and love, we become increasingly aware of his voice in our life-even thwne there is a lot of noise competing for our attention." pg. 72
Give some serious thought to this question:
"What would happen if our lives were so immersed in the worship of our Lord that we would live knowing and accessing the power of God in our lives? Well, that seems to be God's expectation of his followers....that his followers would live lives so powerful and compassionate that the people who know them would immediately give glory to God because of how they lived (1 Peter 2:12)."
Chapter 12 KNOWING THE WORD AND THE WORD WHO BECAME HUMAN "The Scriptures are God's word to us. They help guide us, lead us into truth, and confirm our own relationship with God....The miracle of the Scriptures is that the words are life giving." pg. 116
"Memorizing Scripture is a practical way to worship God. Deuteronomy 30:14 says, 'The word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it' (NCV)."
How many of us sing, "Standing on the promises" but don't know what the promises are? Have you committed to memory some of the many promises found in His Word? If not, it's not too late, start today.
Not only do we need to stand on His promises, but we are called upon to encourage one another, and it is good to have on hand His word in these times.
As you can tell I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but want to leave some things for you to discover on your own. Pick it up today, you are going to love it!

Worship Walk, Where Worship and Life Intersect by Gareth J. Goossen*****
To many people worshiping God is about the music they hear/sing in Church and some leave one church in search of another church that will have music they like or are comfortable with. However, in Worship Walk we learn that worshiping God is far more than the music we hear or even our attending church. Neither is being entertained by that music. We can worship while singing praise and worship songs, but our focus is to remain on God and not the music itself.
Music is an important tool in our worshiping God, but true worship is all about God. Our worshiping God is to be such a part of who we are that everything we do is worship to Him. Mr. Goossen gives detail in so many ways we can worship in our everyday lives. Worship should be in all aspects of our daily worship walk.
There are three parts to this book, each focusing on different aspects of worshiping God. Part I: getting started; Part II: walking it out; and Part III: tying up loose ends.
Each one of these parts are important to our worshiping God. One that really struck me is in part II chapter 6: Silence-a tool of worship, it is very clear that our world is full of noise everywhere we go. If our lives are filled with noise, how then can we hear God's still small voice?--Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”. It is hard to hear God speak to us if it is so very noisy. Even our church services leave very little time for “silence” before God. People get uncomfortable with silence but we need to sit before God and wait on Him in order to hear Him. God uses silence to talk to His people in the past and today. The book goes on to list several ways we can incorporate silence in our walk with God, listening for His still small voice and hearing it.
There is so much more to this book, more than I will go into here. I read this book fairly quickly so I could do this review, however, time is needed to study the information and the Bible verses mentioned in the book and then apply it to our walk with God; which in turn deepens our worship and relationship with God. In this way our life and worship of God intersect.

Fabulous read! Worship Walk is about living your life as worship to God. From the beginning it is evident the Gareth Goossen has put a lot of work and research into making sure everything he says is accurate and tries to explain it in a way that anyone can understand. He pointed out many things that are worship to God that had never occurred to me. I didn’t view them as worship until reading this book. He also has practical ways of incorporating them into your life listed at the end of each chapter. While Mr. Goossen is obviously well versed in worship and it’s many forms, he doesn’t come off as “holier than thou,” just as a regular person who is trying his best to live a life of worship to God and still making mistakes along the way. I loved that! I also really enjoyed the way the book is written. It has a conversational tone to it. It’s almost like you’re sitting down with him, just talking over coffee (or in my case, tea). Probably my favorite part of all is how he constantly points to God. He reminds us again and again that we can do nothing apart from God. You want to change your life? Great! But you’ll need God to do it. This book isn’t a list of “do this” and “don’t do that” instructions. It’s meant to show you what worship can look like in your everyday life, what it means to be fully in love with the King of kings, and how that translates into changing your world. This is a book I’m sure I’ll read again, and possibly again. There’s just no way to absorb all the information included in each chapter without taking the time to study it and look up the Bible verses, and various resources he lists. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to deepen their relationship with their Creator and who wants to learn to live a life of worship. I received this book through The Book Club Network for my honest opinion, which I have given.
Pick Up the Pace & Worship 24/7 (review Worship Walk by Gareth Goossen)
Worship Walk by Gareth Goossen is one wonderful book. Reading through each chapter felt like entering into a chapel where you could sit and encounter the love of Jesus reflecting on you from the worship experiences described. I especially found the sprinkling of modern day miracles within the pages to be encouraging and an antidote to the toxicity of those who downplay the works of God in current times.
This book contains a lot of good news I have never heard about in the media, and that is not just because I am in the USA and Gareth Goossen is in Canada. He has news all Christians and nonbelievers need to hear to boost our knowledge of how great our God is. This book enlarges the concept of worship so it no longer fits into the neat little time frame of Sunday mornings, 11:00 a.m. until Noon.
Gareth Goossen and his family have been radically dependent upon God. They have been open to His leading and have seen blessings of provision that can only be found through going beyond the compromising typical North American lifestyles. The description of sacrifice is not given to in anyway give glory to Goossen and his family but only to give glory to God as another form of worship is presented. God is shown to be supernatural and beyond our comprehension in His goodness and the way He shows His love for people.
Worship Walk is a book for all who follow Jesus and want to be more intentional in their expressions of worship. The book would be a welcome gift for worship leaders and those who help them. Worship leaders may feel challenged to present to congregants ways they can worship not only more effectively during the Sunday service but also at home and anywhere they may be.
Thanks to Bookfun.org for providing this book to me in exchange for posting my honest opinion and review.
I received a copy of this book from the author in a giveaway on The Book Club Network (TBCN) in return for my honest opinion. Wow, Wow, and WOW!!! If I could give this book more than 5 stars I absolutely would! This book is a definite life changer and will have any Christian question their idea of worship, and how they incorporate it into their daily lives. This book will take you to the roots of Christianity and show you how Christian theology and ideals are just as relevant today as they were during the time that Jesus walked the earth. The author reminds us that worship is NOT about us, but IS about God! The author tells us that God speaks to different people in different ways and that we should learn to listen to what God is saying, so that we may worship Him as He so deserves. After reading this book, I truly believe that God used this author to speak directly to me, and others like me, who are hungry for Jesus to be in their lives. How great it is that there are still people in this crazy world that stand with God no matter what! I am so inspired and moved by this book that I want to tell every person I know to read it! This book makes an excellent accompaniment to the Holy Bible, and it is one that I will definitely read again. Thank you Lord, for using this wonderful author to deliver your message!
Gareth Goossen says, "True worship changes us." He has written a very thought provoking book on what worship is and what it is not. Worship IS about God, it IS about silence, confession, passion, and mostly about loving and knowing God. It is NOT about self. It is NOT about music, personal preferences or appearances. "Worship Walk" is a book to savor. I believe it is meant to be read slowly, to allow it to sink deep into the heart and change us from the inside out. Goossen's book is set up in an easy to read format and it is easy to understand. It is filled with scripture as well as personal insight and stories. I really like how Goossen ends most of his chapters by sharing things that he has done or is doing to help himself have a closer walk with Christ. There are also personal questions for the reader to think about and suggested changes one can make to help one develop better worship habits. "Worship Walk" does not come off as a "know-it-all" book, but one where the authors admits he doesn't have it all down perfectly. He admits he is learning and trying right along with us. I also like Goossen's P.R.E.P. (for more information on that you will have to read the book!) I was received this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion.
This is a lovely book which could be used for devotion or small group study. I am finding it inspirational in my own devotions. Goossen provides many convicting insights into how we perceive and conduct worship in a musical meeting setting in contrast to the life of worship we are called to. My single criticism is a leaning towards quoting and reference to scripture with little exposition of those scriptures, but nevertheless an excellent inspirational book. Although I enjoy and use Church bands such as Hillsong, Jesus Culture and Planet Shakers in my walk, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book as it highlights a definite need and worrying trend in recent decades to value 'spiritual feeling' and musical 'worship' in a meeting over lifestyle and action in the Christian life.
I was given this book free of charge from Bookfun.org for my honest review.
Worship is more than just showing up for church and singing some songs. It is a complete life experience. The author takes us through the steps to make worship a constant part of our lives. He uses his own experiences to explain his points. Each chapter ends with questions that can be used for a small group Bible study or further personal style.
Worship is a subject that people often overlook or gloss over. The author has taken it to a deep and personal level. I really enjoyed the in-depth chapters, questions, and the stories that he wove into the message. The points that he brought out were thought provoking and convicting. This is definitely a book that I would recommend to someone wanting to deepen their worship experience.
I received this book free of charge from BookFun.org in exchange for my honest review.
This a revised edition of the 2004 book of the same name. This book is a kind of how to guide for us to put our daily life's in sync with our worship of God. Our worship services should not be about entertainment. The music in a service should not be the reason we come to church. Goossen shows us that worship is a longing to know and love God all the time not just on Sunday. He gives us practical steps to reach this goal. This is his walking it out portion of the book. This is a book for those of us who want to get more out of our worship of God than just entertaining music. I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.
Worship Walk By: Gareth J Goossen I really enjoyed this book. Worship! Wow how are we worshipping the Lord in each day of our lives. I love to close my eyes during the worships service and meditate on the words being sung. We can get so caught up in just saying words and not really getting the message out of a song. I think we want immediate answers as Gareth quoted in here God’s words “ Be Still Know I am God” we all want everything right now. God say wait let me handle this I will decide if you need this or not. I love the way scripture is in the book to back up what is being said. Just everyday stories are awesome in how it puts itt out for us to learn from. I would highly recommend this book. I was given this book by TBCN for my honest review.
I learned a lot from this book. It is thought provoking, challenging and inspirational. Although I love worship music and some of the activities in the church, Mr. Goossen reminds us that we are not going to church just to be entertained. He reminds us that our worship should be on God; to know Him, love Him and to walk daily with Him. This book is a good guide on how we should and can worship God each day. I think it would be a good book to present to a church congregation or in smaller study groups. This book will help me in the way I worship. I liked this book.
I received this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion and review.
We often think worship is what we do for an hour on Sunday morning. Not so, says Goossen. Our entire life is to be worship, so he invites us to a worship walk, a daily walk of worship. He reminds us of the sacrifice and cost of such a life. He explores various aspects of the worship lifestyle, giving suggestions on how to do each one. We were created to worship God. Goossen's book is an excellent encouragement to do that as a lifestyle. If you want to experience worship as a lifestyle, this book is for you. See my complete review at http://bit.ly/15MzNJe.
This is an excellent book giving pointers on how we should worship God. We should not focus on us or our needs; instead, our true worship is on God. We need to learn how to direct our thoughts, prayers, songs and actions to God. I would recommend this to anyone who truly wants to learn how to worship by giving themselves to God.
I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion.
Worship is not to be going to church to be entertained. This book truly showed me that Worship is making a conscious effort to get close to our Lord. Then it went on to giving the steps to reach that goal. How many of us are ready for that challenge? I was given this book by The Book Club Network and Gareth Goossen for my honest review Great, inspired book.
