Closer to finding his sister than ever before, Max still has more questions than answers.
Why has she left cryptic messages across the lower floors of the tower?
What is she trying to tell him?
And then there's the last question. The one that keeps him up at night. The kind of question that makes him wonder if he really wants to know the answer.
What kind of climber has his little sister become?
With a new elite mission assignment that promises insights into Max's search, he plans to give it everything he's got.
Will Max be able to find his sister before it's too late?
Tower Climber 3 is the third instalment in the best-selling LitRPG/Progression fantasy series from Jakob Tanner, author of Arcane Kingdom Online. The story contains RPG mechanics, stats, and ranks as a form of power progression.

TC3 is another fun and entertaining instalment in the Tower Climber series.
Essentially, there is a tower in the middle of the USA that hosts magical creatures and grants people super powers. Our hero, Max, who is paralysed from the waist down, gets back the feeling in his legs and some awesome powers to boot when he is abandoned in the tower premises. His mission in life is to search for his little sister whom he last in in the accident that killed his parents and paralysed him.
TC1 dealt with Max getting his powers, figuring out the tower's culture and what is actually happening in the real world. TC2 dealt with Max getting more powerful and stopping a coup in one of the levels in the tower.
TC3 continues Max's character arc and reveals a lot more behind the conspiracy of the Fallen Angels. This time around Max is asked to participate in an Olympics/Hunger Games style inter-level competition in the tower. He is part of a team of some unique individuals and there is a real need for the team to do well, so that humanity is treated better within the tower.
Max's continues on the journey to becoming a strategic leader by being the team's de-facto tactician. His team encounters various setbacks, obstacles, traps and challenges set by the other competitors and they rely heavily on Max to come up with plans to win the scenarios.
I loved TC3. As always, Jakob Tanner's writing is exciting with a fast pace. There is always something happening that keeps the reader's attention. I highly recommend this series for LitRPG fans.
What a weird series. The characters keep making stupid decisions, people are still cruel for no reason, side characters remain mostly annoying, the action and climax fights don’t make any sense, and yet I am still drawn to this.
It’s got enough things I dislike that I would normally discard the series for something much better but I still find myself invested in Max and his journey to the top.
Max the orphan boy from the outer rim who had lost his whole family in a car accident, as well as the use of his legs had become a tower climber, fully able to function and possessing incredible powers. He was receiving clues left by his sister Elle, in the form of a black feather which was representative of the inter-tower terrorist group known as the Fallen Angels. Max had made it his life’s goal to be re-united with his sister who he had thought he had left for dead in the burning car when she was just four years old. Now he was chosen to be part of the team to take part in the United floors Alliance Tournament which was held every ten years, but humans had not attended for the past twenty years. This was supposed to be held to foster peace among the different floors but it felt like it was designed to keep everyone at each other’s throats. Every floor had sent a group of five representatives to take part in the ‘games’ and group Zestiris consisted of Harold, their A-ranker, Blake their B-ranker, Max and Casey both D-rankers and Sarah an E-ranker, however the group aimed on training Max so hard he would become their c-ranker before the games began. They had to climb to floor 30 to take part and the clock was ticking. They became the surprise of the opening ceremony as they made it just in time, nearly getting themselves disqualified before even starting. However from thereon Max proved his mettle as he fought with all that he had and more to keep his team from getting killed and if possible winning. This is a story in the same league as the Hunger Games, it is a story of hope and of great courage and one where Max’s belief in the good in all of them might prove to be enough to pull back the darkness of even The Fallen Angels – one in particular. The ending to this book leaves the reader craving for the next book asap! Max is such an amazing hero, and so humble to boot.
Wow! This book was such an emotional roller coaster that kept me guessing to the end. Is it the Fallen Angels' continued attacks that are bringing the lower levels together, or is there something about Max that inspires them to reach for the ideal? I love that choices were made in this book that will impact all of the lower floors, hopefully for the better.
I do have some questions about Max though. When he faced the cloaked mercenary, why didn't he copy their power and use it back? Did he just not have time? How was the cloaked mercenary only B rank? Was that a lie? Or has Max really almost caught up to the level of someone who has been working for years more than he has to level up as much as possible? If so, when next they meet, the mercenary has no chance of besting him. I mean, Max is one core away from B himself, and I imagine that we will be seeing him reach S and above long before his journey ends.
Are there even more secrets that Max has yet to uncover? Why would his family have been targeted? Why would the children be 'useful' to anyone? How much is Max's sister in control of her own destiny, and not merely being used as a pawn by more powerful beings? What is the tower really? Is something tempering, testing, and strengthening the populations in it? And why?
The plot in the first book was intriguing, but after that its gotten pretty boring. I feel like the characters have had almost no growth, or any growth they had felt a little fake. I also noticed that some aspects of the book have started to feel more like an anime and sadly not in a good way. There were also a few plot holes that bugged me. The overall writing could also use improvement. I've only been saying bad things but I might still consider reading the next book, if that one isn't any good I might drop the series though.
I hate giving negative reviews but this book could definitely use some work.
A wonderful addition to the story of Max and his developing powers. Without spoilers I have to say this is by far the best book in the series. Everything happens at a good pace as Max and his team first fight for the right to enter into a competition. The alliance of the tower is on an uneven footing, ready to topple. You need to read to find out how Max gets on with his long lost sister, and the competition. Excellent work again Mr Tanner.
So max and Casey end up getting picked for a big event on the 30th floor and are part of a team, they only have a short period to make it to level 30 and they grind thru all the floors with help from the team. A few characters from the previous book resurface and as they make with minutes to spare at the ceremony on level 30 , afterwards the real training begins. At the end of the book he meets his sister only to find out she is with the group that is trying to overthrow the current system.
Mr. Tanner was obviously trying to copy his favorite animes with this story. Unfortunately, in this case it means that the characters are all cardboard cutouts. The hero is an overpowered character with a heart of gold and a tragic backstory. All the other characters are caricatures and thin cardboard cutouts. The plot itself is cliché and unimaginative. On the plus side, the world is somewhat interesting, and I would like to know more about what's going on, but I can't really imagine that I'll be able to stomach another book to find out.
Different Yower Floors have very different races and Max needs to get stronger. Stronger he gets and his friends do too, but when they make it to the "Alliance Tower Games", it is everything opposite of an alliance. Humans vs. every other race, but they all hate humans and eachother. Slip in the terrorist group "Fallen Angels" and the fighting becomes epic. Max needs to become the Hero he is... The Fight is On!
Whew! That one got a bit more intense than the first two. Family, right? The first two were a good distraction. Escapism at its best. Now I’m hooked and completely invested in how this story ends. On to the next.
As the title says this is a review for Kindle Unlimited and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Good: I'm a big fan of Jakob's writing, its easy to read and has likeable characters. The plots range from simple to far fetched depending on the level of the characters (this is LitRPG after all). Having read the first 2 books in the series most of the characters are familiar, the new characters are the kind of wild cards the book needs. The story is exciting.
The Bad: This book seems a little rushed and I felt there were some continuity issues.
I really have high hopes for book 4. I'm marking this book up as an anomaly in an other wise great series.
I found this series on my Facebook feed. I didn’t know what to except, I’ve read a few other tower climbing lit rpgs. This one was actually very good. I started reading and flew through all 3 books to quickly. Now I’m stuck hoping there will be another book in the series.
Series started nice, but by now the MC has become almost invincible. Whereas all other climbers have one ability, he has 5 which are also 2x stronger than those he steals them from. And now he can combine them in unique ones. Battles become a bit boring like this. Also, he comes up with all the plans besides much more experienced climbers in the team.
Loved the first two books but this one is even better. Sometimes it seems like writers hit a slump for book 3 but Jakob absolutely crushed it. Good pacing, intrigue, character development, mystery, it has it all!
Jakob Tanner does it again with another amazing book in the series. I cannot help myself and binge read the whole book in one a day. I look forward to the next book in the series. thank you for writing such an amazing book
Each book gets better and better. The old is interesting and the story is more than a person getting more powerful. It is a tower climbing novel but better. Highly recommend this book and series.
A great story and obviously I was surprised by the turn the story has taken. I look forward to seeing how the redemption will be brought about or if it will be.
A little lighter in the litrpg department than the previous books, but what’s there is fantastically solid. The story moves along briskly, keeping you just in the crest of the action
MC was power leveled. They fought in a tournament. He found some answers about his past. Met his sister. Found some answers out. However, there was no tower climbing. The whole book is drama about tower and race politics. Tower climbing is 4th on the list, if that.
The third book of this series was better than the first and the second. It said it in a place that puts it at of the books I'm waiting for near the top if not the top.
A lot of series have a fun tournament arc, and apparently this one is no exception. It is a lot of fun and I would give it a chan e if you enjoyed the previous two.
The first book kept me up all night unable to put it down. Eventually falling asleep from pure exhuastion. Book two was more the same Now Book 3 has me up late into the night finishing it. Just bet Book 4 will be the same.
This story of a ex wheelchair bound young man who becomes a tower climber learning that he has been living a lie. Someone has manipulated his memories and his mission to find his sister changes. Great Reading
