The bonus Story at the end was cute and perhaps better than the entire novella
I should’ve given three stars but I wanted to be nice. The writing was superb as far as grammar and syntax the editing was perfect as far as I’m concerned. The story had a little too much to be desired. It was a fun read but just too unrealistic. So many things: mentioning bitcoin and then somebody’s going to sign it off is just completely unrealistic if anyone knows how bitcoin works, I won’t go into the mechanics but that’s just unreal, you need private keys, you need authentication code and all that which I agree is not necessary so let’s just not bring it into the story and furthermore if somebody had a bitcoin account of any substantial amount they would do two or three years of jail knowing that when they come out they’re basically going to be millionaires. The two cops one fat one thin made you think of Laurel and Hardy and lo and behold the guys name is Stan I mean really? Coming up with this incredible story and having it pass off where the police give permission to do this is just again complete fantasy I realize that’s what fiction is but it should still have some realism to it. Being hooked up with cables flying off a balcony and all of that just completely out of the question the only way this would have worked would be on a stage with music as a musical it would have been fun a dramatic musical but absolute fantasy that might have made it work and the story was too much like the movies we’ve all seen where they’re trapped and killed off one by one so this just seemed like a take off of one of those movies but without killing and slashing. I think if she would’ve gone further and had people die a miserable death it just may have worked better. Again I’m giving four stars because I am also a writer and I understand it isn’t easy and the writing was flawless, just the storyline needs a lot of work. I want to be moved, I wanna be touched, I want tears, I want laughter, I want arousal, something! This one didn’t give me any of that.
I liked the story. The plot was intricate, snd the characters were well developed for such a short story. Story was full of unexpected twists and turns.
Janine is the new executor assistant and is privy to a lot of secrets. When she calls for a meeting in the executive suite, the attendees will learn it’s not the average meeting. Secrets will spill and no one is safe. Twists and turns abound!
This is my first book by Leah and oh my gosh was it good! It’s supposed to be a two hour read and sure was close to two hours for me. I couldn’t put it down. The characters were written beautifully, the plot was AMAZINGLY done. I can’t wait to read more from Leah.
Well written and very interesting. I enjoyed reading this, I would definitely recommend this book to others. I’m glad it was available on Amazon Kindle.
I teach a college fiction writing class. I assigned this book to read as a good example of a thriller novella. I enjoyed the switch from 1st person, Janine, to the 3rd person perspective in the executive suite alternating chapters. I enjoyed the reference to the haunted La Concha Hotel in Key West, the scrabble scene, and the interaction between the three protagonists, Talia, Gracie, and Janine. The novella had a Good twist I did not see coming.
The Executive Suite: A Thriller Novella (Murder at the Opulence Hotel) Author Leah Orr
In this creative novella bases were touched to get people to reveal their secrets. There is an enactment which causes a man to reveal a secret and the facts of a crime is discovered.
I enjoyed reading this story. I've rated this fiction work five stars.
A very entertaining novella. I enjoyed that each chapter had a cliff hanger. I love that the ending was swift, and wrapped up nicely, and not dragged out. A nice 2 hour read.

I hate leaving one star reviews but this book did nothing for me. If not for it being an ARC I would not have finished it. Where it’s clearly a novella, I’ll forgive the all too fast pace, but I found it extremely hectic and too many characters to follow for the pace. There were also too many outside references (including song lyrics at one point) that felt like filler at best. I didn’t appreciate the off-handed comment about the Catholic Church, either. The plot itself has potential and I might have found it interesting if it had been presented differently. Overall, the entire situation felt unrealistic.
Thanks to BookSirens for this free review copy. I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
I was lucky enough to have received this book as an ARC, so thank you for that.(yes I know I am a bit late on reviewing this, but better late than never, right?) As someone who is used to longer books with more developed characters, this book is not something I typically read. I enjoyed this book, but i think the ending was kind of unrealistic, and I definitely prefer more developed characters. (This is definitely not the authors fault, it's hard to make well developed characters when the book is only 115 pages long) I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick read or just doesn't have much time.
A sophisticated psychological thriller set in a luxury hotel where every character wears a mask, and one of them is hiding murder. What begins as a glamorous corporate meeting turns chilling when a group of executives is locked inside the unfinished 25th-floor suite. Told through shifting perspectives, including Janine’s own haunting voice, the novel blends suspense with sharp character study. Each chapter peels back the polished facade of success to reveal ambition, debt, secrets, and betrayal. If you enjoy Knives Out, Big Little Lies, or closed-room mysteries with a stylish twist, this is a gripping and elegantly written read that will keep you guessing until the end.
Currently reading once I received it through the mail. Omg!!!!! Love love love it!!! No spoilers here but all I can say is it's really good. And on another note can I speak on how sweet the author is?? She is amazing. I won a copy of the bartender and she sent me this book as well since it goes before the bartender. Not only that she signed and sent a beautiful message. And in case noone knows she donates all the profit of her books to the cystic fibrosis foundation which her youngest daughter is inflicted with!!!
I have given this book (novella) three stars because it has the potential to be so much more. It could have gotten more in depth with the world building and character building. I felt that the end was slightly rushed and I would have liked to see a little more development of the whodunit part and how they actually got them to confess. The twists and turns throughout were entertaining and kept me intrigued. Overall though a great easy read at a little over 100pages you could finish this book in a day.
The novel it follows the story of a treacherous of events which undergoes in a luxurious hotel executive suite, and the subsequent investigation by detective Lila Day. The plot twists and turns w/ multiple suspects, each with their own visions and mist, making it a gripping and suspenseful read. Orr's writing style is engaging and keeps the reader hooked like gorillas glue until the very end. Over the aboves, "The Executive Suite" is well-crafted; a thriller that'll leave readers on the edge of their seats!
I read this book in about an hour. It was a good, quick read which I enjoyed. It was easy to read and follow, with a good plot and a nice twist at the end. My only critique would be that the wrapping up at the end was very quick. It felt like 3 pages wrapped up the entire plot, which I thought was a little quick. Overall it was a good book, held my attention, and was very well written. Would recommend!
An excellent short thriller. The story works really well with a suspenseful situation with a good small range of characters, all trapped in the white and all with their secrets. The writing is excellent, really builds the tension nicely. The narration also greatly helps the story, is easy to listen to and well performed An author and narrator I wil! be happy to revisit in the future. I received a complimentary copy from the Author and am leaving a honest voluntary review
I finished this book so quickly! I didn’t set it down, not even once. It kept my attention so wonderfully. It was an easy read and I appreciate that it is to the point and not overly descriptive. I’m the kind of person who needs things to flow rather quickly or I lose interest.
The only reason I gave 4 stars is the ending seemed rushed more than anything. The climax should take the longest to describe I think. Still a wonderful story and a very interesting read!
Great read with a few fun twists. Leah clearly knows the ins and outs of what goes on in large hotels, and what happened here at the Opulence Resort was perhaps a little far fetched but very entertaining to read. Cleverly written to make the main acts happen in the executive suite of the hotel where rock stars and presidents normally stay, but for this book it's reserved for a select few employees! Can highly recommend this novella which makes for a great break from the real world.
“The Executive Suite” delivered an enjoyable, solid read. Perfect for a commute or bedtime story for adults, the pacing of this short story moves along nicely. Every moment propelled me as the reader forward. The author’s experience in the hotel industry is apparent, and makes Janine and her colleagues all the more real. While the twist had me tinkering on the edge of believability, the ending is much more satisfying than I originally guessed. A uniquely presented whodunit.
I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this. The formatting could use some work and the ending felt rushed, if not anti-climatic. However, the characters were well-developed, especially considering how short this book was, the plot was highly intriguing and intricate, and the alternating POVs was quite refreshing.
Overall this was a very enjoyable read. It was well written, the characters were surprisingly well developed given the length, and the twist at the end was something I didn't see coming. I will say that it was obviously inspired by Megan Goldin's novel The Escape Room, but Orr did a good job making the story her own.
Inteesting thriller about murder at the Opulence Hotel. Gracie seeks to find out who her mother's killer is. Drake and Talia are locked in the executive suite faced with each other to find out truth of each other's situation. Adam and Jason both are have their own secrets. Janine helps Gracie to get the truth. The truth of Mr. Matheson is revealed.
This book isn't what I usually read, but I was looking for something different and I'm so glad I found this book! It held my attention from the beginning. A group of employees is invited to the executive room where they are trapped inside and forced to admit their secrets. Lots of surprise twists!
This novella offers an engaging narrative filled with intriguing twists and turns that kept me hooked until the very end. I enjoyed the dual storylines and the seamless shifts between first and third-person perspectives, which added depth and kept me eager for more. The characters were interesting and developed effectively. A captivating read!
(¯`·._.··¸.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.Review: Well this book took me through twists and turns! I know this author is all about surprises and confusion but wow. I really enjoyed this really couldn’t have seen it coming which is hard to do for me as I typically see a plot twist happening! If you want to go on a ride while trying to keep guessing, this is the book for you 100000% !! .-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸··._.·´¯)
I gave this a two star, I felt like the writing was all over the place. There was more plot than thriller… I’m not one to read a short story but was gifted It to barrow to read. Her first I read was “in the she shed” and loved It!!! This one I felt like the characters needed to be more development and more of there past.
