This is a good mail-order bride romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded down to 3 stars.
First, it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Mariah and Ben.
Mariah was likable, and I loved that she was so good with Ben's son, Benjamin. I especially liked that she was willing to take care of Benjamin, even though Ben didn't want to marry her at first.
Ben was likable, and I liked that he loved his son so much. His first marriage wasn't a happy one, so he was afraid to marry again, until he got to know Mariah. When he realized she was nothing like his late wife and saw how much she loved his son, he fell in love.
This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
The author has penned a sweet and heartwarming story full of human frailties including: sadness, heartache, threats, danger, secrets, and romance. This is Mariah and Ben's story and includes Ben's four year old son Benji. Benji and his friends decide to send for a MOB for his dad unbeknownst to his dad. Needless to say, when Mariah arrives confusion abounds. Will Ben and Mariah be able to develop a relationship that will grow into a HEA? Will Ben be able to accept that Mariah is what he really needs in his life? Will Mariah be safe from the danger she experienced in her uncle's household? Be sure to read this great story; I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Ben and Mariah are both running, Ben from the thought of marriage and the burdens and heartbreak that he has found come with it and Mariah from the threats and dangers she felt under her uncle's care. They are both wary, but seeing them work together to care for Benji and the feelings that develop from that is heartwarming and a reminder that we don't always know what is best for us. A sweet romance which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
This is the first book I've read by Rhonda Gibson but I really enjoyed it and will be looking for more. I love stories where the children have decided to take matters in their own hands and find a spouse for their parent, usually a bride for their dad. That said, i'm not sure I would have been as happy about it if I had been the parent or the unexpected bride. Thank heavens for kind neighbors.
This is a cute mail order bride story written by Rhonda Gibson. Benjamin is a sweet four year old boy whose mother died at birth leaving him lonely for a ma. His father is a hard working blacksmith and work many hours a day. Benjamin and two of his friends create a bride letter and send for a ma for Benjamin. Upon arrival she discovers the deception these three young boys have created. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.
I loved this book and read it in a couple of hours. It was so engaging that I didn't want to even take a break. I have read a couple of other books by this author and was excited to find this one. Ms. Gibson writes wonderful feel-good books that are great to curl up with on a cold evening with a cup of hot tea in my hand and a dog at my feet. I 'll definitely be keeping my eye out for more books by this author.
This was a wonderfully sweet romance. The characters were so likeable and I fell in love with little Benjamin. The story was well written and I loved the faith that Mariah had in God. If you like a clean, sweet, historical romance, I think you will enjoy this book.
This story was very interesting and sweet. Mariah is so shy throughout much of the story, but once she meets Benjamin, she finds a confidence she didn't know she had in her. Little Benjamin (Benji), sounded like a cute little scamp. It was easy to picture the characters in this story.
I really enjoyed A Bride for Benjamin. Rhonda Gibson is a very talented author. The story grabbed my interest from the first page and I couldn’t stop reading until the end. I wished it had been a few chapters longer their were just a few questions that never got answered. I do recommend this book.
