As personal assistant to a powerful alpha of a large pack, there are certain rules Jamie has for himself to make sure he’s successful at his job.
First, nothing and no one gets to the alpha without his say so.
Second, schedules will be enforced for everyone. At all costs.
Third, a certain Enforcer with an enticing scent and scarred face is not to be stared at, drooled over, and/or daydreamed about.
And fourth, human hunters are never, ever mate material—no matter what their smiles or Southern drawls do to him.
But what if his own rules are preventing Jamie from finding something unique and magical and hotter than he could ever imagine? Because being caught between a grumpy cougar and a dangerous hunter was the last place Jamie thought he should be… but it might just be exactly where he needs to be to find both of his fated mates.
The Hunter and His Mates is the fourth book in the bestselling Kincaid Pack series, which is most enjoyable when read in order. This installment is an MMM romance featuring a scentless human trying to make a home in a pack of shifters, an Enforcer with mild PTSD and a possessive streak a mile wide, and the sweet little hawk who adores them both.
Is this where the series goes to shit? I hope not. 🥲
I really like this series and how the sub-plot continues in every book, but not even missing new info made me finish this, it was a total no no.
Why? Well, an MMM is really hard to do in the first place, but then the author just made something insta for two of the characters and a 180 degree change in the third guy, (he hated one of the guys and then suddenly, he adores him), there wasn't a connection or a transition from hate to love. It just happened and I had enough. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
I'll still read the next one though, I really enjoy reading about the Kinkaid pack and I hope the next one gets better.
While I liked and enjoy this book it's probably my least favorite in the series. Not because it wasn't good but because I really didn't need a book following the same storyline as the others. I really need the big story to move forward.
I'd really been looking forward to Gabriel, Jamie, and Drake's story. All three deserved a happy ending and sweet, loving mates. I was a little disappointed this one happened simultaneously with previous books, so there's no real moving forward with the storyline. It's basically a 'behind the scenes' of the others, but I still enjoyed it and loved the three of them together. I'm looking forward to the next one.
This being an MMM, I was really nervous. I don't usually read this subgenre as I'm perfectly aware I have a hard time convecting with the romance. For me, it's hard to believe this love stories, not because I don't understand poly (logically I do), but because many times I have a hard time believing the romance is balanced between the three of them.
So, I was surprised to actually enjoy this quite a lot. I do believe their story, their love being a triangle that's balanced. And it's curious, since I don't thing the development is that good... Then how? At the end of the story, when the three of them are mated and stablished, I do feel what Jamie, Gabriel and Drake share is solid and flows in all the good directions. But the way to get there... Mmmmm... That made me lower my rating and I will explain why.
We meet the three of them in the previous books. First, it's obvious Drake and Jamie are mates, but when Gabriel appears and starts flirting with the little hawk... And being reciprocated! It makes the things interesting. That means the book starts with both Drake and Gabriel interested in Jamie, and Jamie interested in both men. The first half, more or less, is more focused on this, in how Drake and Gabriel feel for Jamie and it's not until halfway through the relationship (romantically speaking) of Drake and Gabriel starts to develop.
And what's worse, I was far more interested in Gabriel's and Drake's animosity than anything Jamie...
I missed some foreplay between the two. They hate each other (or they think they do) and fight for the same man. Yes, we see Gabriel is attracted to the cougar, and to some point Drake becomes aware of his own attraction towards the hunter... But that's it. That's the only hinting we have of them potentially loving each other. So yes, I missed development here, making me feel they are meant to be together (the three of them) and not just because they are two guys in love with the same guy.
Then we get to the second half, in where the threesome is stablished. Aaaaand things change completely and it kinda feels like sometime Jamie is... Just there. Gabriel and Drake feel more solid, like there's more feeling between them. And this specially shows in some scenes. Drake's feline side needing scents more that Jamie's bird side didn't help here, since that only made Drake more distressed by Gabriel's lack of scent and pronounced the sensation of Jamie sometimes just being there.
The author, however, accomplishes balancing the relationship little by little and by the end of it I have no doubt that this three work perfectly together. I loved how they ground each other, how each of them has their role in the relación, how the three are important, needed and loved.
The plot that comes along the romance keeps from where we left it. We continue the fight with the Counsel, but we you look back... Not much progress is made. Some revelations are made and new thing are discovered, but they are few. Too few.
The same happens with Gabriel's family plotline. It felt... Underdeveloped. Like something that's just there to fill the book with some kind of story and turning point that put our guy's lives at risk. But not really a solid plot, exactly.
So, when I look back at what I read, I loved the guys, I loved getting to really know Gabriel (who came as kind of emotionless and aloof in the previous books but shows to be caring, loving and passional), I loved to her into Drake's mind and see how he tries to overcome his trauma step by step, and I loved Jamie embracing his two mates and accepting what they have.
I wouldn't mind reading more about them, I kinda ended enjoying their dynamics and how they are together (even if I can't help but favor Gabriel and Drake more than Jamie because of what I said before), but I wish there had been more action and things going on.
Obviously, I'm dying for the next book! Nico and Keegan, oh yeah! Next book's plot sounds amazing and I want July to come already lol I also need more Doc and Damien for my mental health. These two promise to be hot together, I tell you!! Fingers crossed here for their stories to be accompanied with a more solid plot and not just their romance.
I can count on one hand the amount of MMM I read and liked but I was already attached to members of this clan and was curious how Kiki Clark would convince me of this two mate scenario. There were things I loved about this but others not so much. I surpriseingly didn't love Jamie as much as I thought I would and didn't ever end up connecting with him. Gabriel, a hidden softie, I cared for more than I wanted / or expected to . Drake was everything I wanted him to be and lived up to my expectations. The problem was I didn't care if they ended up together until almost halfway through the book. Thankfully, the sex scenes were 🔥 and there's a lot of sweet and possessive moments.
4/23/2022 - It’s in audio. And whispersync. Ahhhhhh! Rearranging my TBL because I have an ear crush on Kirt Graves that’s only getting worse each time I listen to him.
First. That cover. 🔥🔥🔥 and the perfect representation of the book’s characters.
While each book in the series covers a different couple - in this case a throuple/triad/poly - there are ongoing mystery/suspense story arcs that are developed as the series goes on. So, start at the beginning and read/listen in order.
I’ve been waiting for these guys and I’m so sucked into the Pack/Council political intrigue. Clark didn’t disappoint. This had to be my favorite so far. I listened to it in two days. This runs somewhat concurrently to Marcus & Robson’s book - but didn’t feel like a copy/paste. While there were a few scenes that were in both, because they were from completely different POVs instead of feeling repetitive it gave the story depth.
I really enjoyed getting to know Jamie, Drake, & Gabriel better. It wasn’t easy or Insta-love for them though they definitely felt a pull and poor Drake wasn’t easy to win over. I thought Clark did a good job honoring Drake’s PTSD & disability as an amputee. I also liked that there was an equal pull & respect for each other (or at least they got there.). My favorite poly are the ones where all are included and not equal exactly - but I definitely like to feel that no one is needless extra. Each guy had his own personality and they all had unique & strong relationships with each other.
I’m also a huge fan of the romantic suspense and mystery aspect of these books and this was one of the strongest in that aspect. I adore the Kincaid Pack/worldbuilding as well. It really works for me. The return from recovering Gregson’s secret message was a surprise and just leads to more mysteries.
While I’m excited for Nico & Keegan’s book (Nico has been a fun background character and I can’t wait to see what Clark has in store for him), I admit to be crushing on the hints at Doc and Damien. 🤞🏼
Narration: Kirt Graves narration on this series has been phenomenal. Clark has a huge cast of characters and Graves has given them each a unique “voice” and it remains consistent through all the stories. The inflections, accents, register, and emotions match the writing perfectly. These are so easy to binge.
I liked it when they all finally got together, and I understand that they are fated mates so it makes sense the flip flopping of emotions they have towards eachother, but it was a bit frustrating in the beginning, especially how uncommunicative Derek was.
I still enjoyed it, poly relationship + adopted puppies 😍😚
Lo siento, pero el peor de todos sin lugar a dudas. No le he visto sentido esta pareja de tres, siento que están pegados con cola y punto. Como personajes separados están bien pero juntos... no lo sé Rick parece falso.
This is Jamie, Drake, and Gabriel's story: the alpha's assistant, who turns out to be a needy partner; a man who has a trauma and is full of insecurities; a retired hunter, with a family that doesn't know when to leave him alone. Seeing how the three of them managed to talk and figure out that they were meant to be, was interesting, although I didn't feel that much from Drake towards the others, as his interest was kind of immediate in the relationship, with no transaction from the angry and jealous part, to the I'm-fine-being-with-both. I really enjoyed reading about Gabriel trying to woo Jamie, and how the hunter managed to talk to Drake. The pack is becoming better and better, can't wait to read how it'll grow.
THE HUNTER AND HIS MATES continues the Kincaid pack's battle against their Council enemies and this time features a poly couple with the Hunter Gabriel and shifters Jamie and Drake. However, the first half of the book is primarily focused on Gabriel and Jamie developing their relationship and Drake doesn't really become a part of things until the second half of the book. The transition from Drake disliking Gabriel (because he's a hunter) to being involved with him was a bit abrupt and I wish we had seen more of Gabriel and Drake spending time around each other so that Drake's change of opinion would have made more sense.
That being said, once these three are together they were on fire and I loved how much they cared for each other. The intimacy between MCs (both in and out of the bedroom) is something that Kiki Clark does really well and I was swooning through the majority of the book because of these characters. I especially loved Gabriel's southern charm and endearments.
While I loved the romance side of the story I do have to make a comment on the plot. Almost the entire first half of this book runs parallel in action to the previous book in the series so I would not recommend reading this without reading the previous book first. There were lots of brief references to events that were happening to other characters but they were never really given context in this book even though they were really important things for the overall series plot. I didn't really like this format because it made the first half of THE HUNTER AND HIS MATES feel like it wasn't a main story (which it is). Once the events are caught up though we get lots of new developments in the overall arc and I can't wait to read the next book!
Content Warning: Drake is dealing with PTSD and chronic pain after an explosion led to his arm being amputated.
I was looking forward to Gabriel, Jamie, and Drake all getting their mates, never guessing that they would all end up together. This book happens simultaneously with the previous in the series, so there is no real forward momentum in the plot. It was more of a behind the scenes of what was happening with these 3 while the major events were happening to the pack elsewhere. It was kind of interesting to see things from another point of view, however I read the previous book when it came out so some of the things I was expected to remember were a little hazy and left me confused.
I did not expect Gabriel to be so sweet and tender. He was such a mystery before this book so I really enjoyed getting to know him better. I also didn't expect Jamie, who tends to be a force of nature in his job as Ricks assistant, to love being to submissive to his mates. Drake I fully expected to be the possessive growly cougar that he was. No surprise there. It makes sense though. Jamie has to be in control of so many things in his daily life at work, while Drake is still dealing with PTSD and the things he can no longer control after the accident. In bed these men can have what they crave, while Gabriel can take care of both their needs. It worked really well and it was achingly sweet how Drake made sure that Gabriel knew he wasn't just with him due to Jamie after the way he treated the Hunter.
“I’ve wanted this for longer than I’ve even let myself think about it. You aren’t just the bonus prize to me, Gabriel.”
I am excited for the next book in this series with Nico and Keegan. I want to know more about the witch who is an extremely close friend of Gabriel's. We know very little about him, except for the fact that he is most definitely Nico's mate. We are also given a strong hint as to who is Doc's true mate. I had no idea that was who Doc's mate was going to be and I am dying to know more about those two as well. I was already intrigued by his shy mate and that was before I knew he was meant for Doc. Hopefully Nico and Keegan's book will give us more hints as well. Unfortunately we have to wait until July of next year for that to happen. Those 9 months are gunna be a long wait, but I have no doubt it will be worth it!
MMM is really hard to get right and I rarely enjoy it. I can only think of a handful of MMM I’ve enjoyed. This one didn’t change my mind.
I looooooooved Jamie and just didn’t feel like his story did him justice. It was fine, I read it and will keep going, but the common pitfalls of MMM were glaring here. Not enough time spent with relationship development, someone often left out, etc. I also fucking hated the final sex scene which was a DP scene where after the two tops came, they basically just ran off to a birthday party instead of performing aftercare and fucking worshipping the bottom who just had two dicks in his ass (what even is life?).
WOW, another great addition (4.5). I was hesitant about this book at the beginning because a throuple is a bit hard to write and only so many authors get it right and with the aspect of the shifters/hunter I was not sure how it would go. But it went amazingly.
I think the three had such a great dynamic, they all were so different yet they all were what they needed in each other and I could feel the draw to each other. The growth in the characters of Drake and Gabriel was good to witness and how it made them stronger as people and as a couple. I wish that Drake's mental health had more closure at the end. the ending did feel a bit rushed.
I am just obsessed with this series and I cannot wait to see what is next.
Favorite in series: 1. The Deputy and His Enforcer (5) 2. The Second and His Bonded (5) 3. The Hunter and His Mates (4.5) 4. A New Pack For New Year (4)
1) The dynamics of the relationship at times felt skewed, it was very much Jaime/Gabriel at first, then sort of the three of them, then it felt almost solely focused on Drake/Gabriel with sprinkling in of Jaime as if in afterthought. I do really like the relationship they share though.
2) I realized 70% through The Hunter and His Mates(#4) that what I was missing from The Deputy & His Enforcer (#3) & #4 was the overarching plot. Tbh, I couldn't figure out until now why I didn't enjoy #3 as much as the first two of the series.
The overarching plot through all the books is....good, I want more, it's definitely more interesting than most shifter plots, but it's lost with these characters.
I think I liked Rick & Kai's and Bennet & Kieran's stories so much more because they were more connected to that plot. Everyone else seems side character-ish. If this plot line had been expanded on and then resolved in the first two books, they would have been 1000% better and more substantial than they are now and then the next two could have been books focusing on these characters you met without this subversion from the plot. (and Gabriel's whole family drama could have been its own separate plot line for this book with a better climax and resolution and none of this council stuff.)
In conclusion, I really like the plot that keeps being brought up, but I wish the climax and resolution of it had happened in within the first two books because it's taking a backseat to the relationship of the moment and nothing is really progressing.
My favorite of the series because I've been so excited for Drake's focus! And the way Kiki builds their relationship was so intense, we coould see how they loved each other in every way. Also, I loved seeing more of Doc! The plot thickens and we get another clue to what was left behind, I need to read the next one soon!
So I don't read a lot of poly romances, because while I like them in theory, I often times have trouble believing that all 3 participants are equally invested and equally important to the relationship, but overall I think this story meets that threshold for me.
This is the fourth book in the series, and we get a lot more macro plot in this book than we did in the previous one which I liked. And, I really liked our three main characters individually, but also the way they interacted together.
I will admit that I was a little nervous at first. It felt very much like Jamie and Gabriel were together while Drake was off by himself working through the trauma he faced in Book 1. However, ultimately it worked for me, because Jamie wanted both Gabriel and Drake from the start, and Gabriel and Drake were very obviously attracted to each other - they just weren't quite sure what to do about it. And, once Jamie realized that having both was an option, it was less about 2 against 1 and more like....2 trying to convince their third he was meant to be with them.
I will say for all the macro plot, and having three main characters, I still felt like each of them was well developed. They had their own backstories, issues, a plot beats that all worked well together.
Three Thoughts: 1. I really loved the focus on therapy in this story. I think, especially in fantasy stories, there can be this tendency to kinda sweep aside character's trauma for plot. But, that didn't happen here. Drake has PTSD from the bombing and losing his arm, and he is really honest in therapy about what that means for him, and his progress feels authentic. 2. Gabriel broke my freaking heart. Not going to lie, I figured he would be the hardest sell for me. And, I worried that I would ultimately feel like the story should have just been Drake and Jamie, but that didn't happen. He is such a great character, and I love how much he loves both his mates. (Especially the scenes where is he massaging Drake's scars....so freaking sweet. And definitely sold me on those two together.) 3. I am absolutely here for the bromance brewing between Gabriel and Robson.
This was a really great entry in this series, and has me incredibly excited for the fifth book. Nico is such a great character and Keegan is a total mystery. (Also, I really, really, really hope Book 6 is Doc and Damien. *fingers crossed*)
content warnings: PTSD, discussion of trauma, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, violence, sex (on page)
I really like this series and this part is no different - and I think it is better to read them in order, as there is a storyline, which connects the books. I felt for Drake after the bombing and I am so happy that he finally gets his mates. and yes, there are two for him. Gabriel is very mysterious in the previous books and I love that we get to know him better. He is a great guy and fits Drake perfectly I had some troubles with Jamie at the beginning - coming from the third book, where I was the opinion that they treated Marcus not very nicely. but he is a good addition and makes his mates happy.
the story is interesting and I like to follow it through the different books and couples. but what I love most about these books is, how the couples get together and how they develop their connection. and this one is no differen: I love how this relationship developed. these guys are great together. I loved Gabriels and Jamies attitude and felt for Drake
I loved reading this story!
here are some of my reasons why only 4,5 stars ... but realistically they are really minor (and a bit spoilery): and I had some troubles understanding why Drake did not feel his mates, when they were in trouble or only felt Jamie and not Gabriel. the connection between Gabriel and Drake is in the end nearly overpowering the connection to Jamie, who was the focus in the beginning
all in all a great addition to this series and I am really looking forward to the next two books (yes we get a glimpse of two possible pairings *happydance*) can't wait to get my handson them
3.5⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I’m not the biggest fan of MMM because I’ve run into too many issues with the way characters don’t share, but this one was done well. Kiki Clark had all three with equal loving. Even when it was just two at first there wasn’t 100% focus on just them, and they always thought about their missing piece. I loved that.
I also loved getting to see this sweet, adorable side of Jamie. In the previous books we saw him as that fierce, always in control and brilliant assistant to Rick Kincaid. Seeing Jamie let loose, and let his mates take control for him was unexpectedly sweet.
My only issues with this book was the third person point of view and some grammatical issues. Both kept me from moving through this as easily as I would have loved to. The POV issue was just that there was too much going on for it to flow very well from third person. There were lots of “him” “he” and so on that made you pause a second and be like wait a minute, who are we talking about? I kind of wish it was in first person. I would have enjoyed it a lot more that way.
Otherwise, loved this and look forward to the continuation of the series with Nico and Keegan next. More than that I’m looking forward to Doc’s story whenever that may be. A little hint of who his mate is was teased again so we shall see.
It was an absolute pleasure to read this impressive MMM shifter romance that has a bit of an emotional hurt/comfort undertone & it is a splendid addition to the series. The plot has good world building & is filled with some well-described intense situations (I would really recommend reading the series to fully understand the underlying storyline) The characters are complex individuals with realistic flaws & are unique with their individuality but they go through a lot of trials & tribulations before developing a wonderful, loving relationship between them. The secondary characters offer good support throughout the storyline. There is: The alpha (Garrick Kincaid aka Rick) of the Kincaid Pack, his feisty male omega mate (Kai), a male hawk shifter (Jamie), a rather aloof male cougar shifter (Drake) & enforcer, a human hunter (Gabriel), drama, intrigue, suspense, various kinds of shifters, pack issues, fated mates, family issues, action, drama, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, mystery, magic, danger, threats, violence, conflict, memories, emotional/physical trauma, medical issues, distrust, insecurities, self esteem issues, misunderstandings, longings, compromises, love, bonding, steamy scenes, contentment & a well-deserved happy ending. I would recommend this MMM shifter romance (& the series) to people who enjoy reading this genre.
How did nothing happen? This was so much plot and in theory romance but nothing happened? I am so confused. I read this as a standalone - did the MCs fall in love with each other in the previous books already which is why we don’t really get to see it here? I understand plot happens but also doesn’t because it’s an overarching plot but… These guys could have had an interesting dynamic and story but like it just poof happened but also didn’t. Yup reading it felt similar to reading this review.
Idk how to review. I wanted to DNF but then I was already so far and kept thinking “but something is gonna happen now right? Right??

I received an ARC of this book. I really didn’t know what to expect going into this book between Drake, Jamie and Gabriel because I felt like the only one that I knew and had a bond with was Drake. It did not disappoint. I knew that the sexual tension would be rising through the roof between all three men, and that just tension would rise between Drake and Gabriel, but it went beyond my expectations in the best way. Gabriel was so guarded and yet he put himself out there more than any of them from the very beginning in most ways. His humor and persistence just made him so likable immediately. Jamie didn’t really hit my radar in the first few books, but I fell in love with his fierceness mixed in with his sweet shyness and just a sprinkle of insatiability. And Drake has been calling for me to get to know him since book 1 and I loved him so much. The vulnerability and prickliness with the mental/physical strength and the pure dominance. These three were so different and yet so perfect for each other. The story was amazing. Getting to know these three men and reading the beginning of their love story was just a treat. And don’t even get me started on the sexy times. Fire!!!! Dang near burnt up my kindle in two specific scenes. Read it and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. The overall story and the relatable characters and couples just keep pulling me in and I am so ready to see what happens next.

This series continues to be great. Love the characters, the world, and the stories.
The author is able to provide variety in her characters and push the story forward in a really good way. I loved all three of the main characters and it makes sense that not everyone can be perfectly healthy, but Drake holding back himself and his truth from his mates got frustrating, especially when it endangered his life.
The other thing that didn't work is the bizarre behavior from the characters when they are in a dangerous situation. They go to pick up some sensitive material (which we don't see) and then we come into the scene when they're back in their hotel room with the stuff. But, it makes no sense! They are not going to stay in the hotel room and there's no reason they would have gone to their hotel room. But, even though this moment stuck out at me as making no sense, for the most part the author does a great job at moving the plot along in a thoughtful way.
Jamie is a virgin who waited for his fated mates... sadly, sounds like Drake slept around a lot with anyone (male or female) and we don't hear a lot about the hunter's history.
MMM is so tricky to write, and there were times where I lost faith in Clark's ability to make this a cohesive and equal trio, but I needn't have bothered as by the end of the story their love was solid and made so much sense for all three of them to be together. While these three characters have made plenty of appearances in the background of other stories, I truly felt like we got to know them here and got into their heads in a way Kiki has always done so well. If you're looking for a well written trio, with some seriously steamy scenes, I do recommend this book.
Now, as others have pointed out, this book doesn't do as good of a job of progressing the overall Kincaid Pack plot, which is why I can't give this book 5 stars. Kiki does bonkers-good world building and it's just kinda missing here. I will absolutely continue on with the series as I need to see the epic showdown I just know will be there at the end, but this one ends up for me to be high on the relationships and low on the overarching plot.
Another great instalment in the Kincaid Pack series. This time it’s three mates coming together - Drake, Gabriel and Jamie.
Drake is still coming to terms with his new normal after being injured in an explosion whilst Gabriel, who is human, is doing his best to fully trust again. Meanwhile the previously sexually inexperienced Jamie has become very needy when it comes to being physical with his mates.
There’s lots of steam and the three need to overcome some minor hiccups and embrace their true mating before ensuring their longed for HEA. There’s some feels, lots of heat, some family drama from Gabriel’s previous life and a sneak peek into Nico and Keegan’s story which is coming up next.
