No one knows the baby’s true identity. Who left her there and what became of them?

Right from a young age, Peggy always was inquisitive.

As she grows up, Peggy—who knows no other name—asks questions, wondering where she came from and what her future holds.

Peggy has a unique gift, a talent that sets her apart from everyone else. She faces unexpected obstacles.

In the rarefied atmosphere of an Oxford college in 1858, a woman has little hope of succeeding. Or so she is told.

Can Peggy’s life change for the better after she meets David Wickfield, a handsome Oxford scholar? Together they discover more about her true talents as their fondness for each other deepens.

“The Abandoned Prodigy” and all Catharine Dobbs' novellas are wholesome Victorian Romances.

I really enjoyed this book and had trouble putting it down to tend to daily life as well as reading. The plight of this orphan was very different than many stories of this genre, time period, and was refreshing change to the ongoing heartache of the young children of the time period. This was not without hardships but this child had a fighting chance that many were not given. It brings home how our world is now such a patriarchy and that the glass ceilings were being broken long before we were around, and it is work that we must continue. Bravo Ms. Dobbs. Wonderful book.
