Kelly previously wrote From The Faculty Lounge - the story of London Central High School, the Department of Defense Dependents School which closed in 2007 (and also avaiable through Bayberry Books). The school had been located on the bases at Bushy Park, Bushey Hall and Daws Hill, High Wycombe.

In my mind I've always thought of this book as Totally Tasteless Sniglets, but now having read it, Garbage Pail Kids feels like the more relevant inspiration. Where Sniglets had their basis in the 80s standup comedy boom ("Hey, you ever notice there's a button on a baseball cap? Whaddya call that thing, anyway?"), these neologisms are part of the decade's later nasty comedy trend. Some are fanciful, some are existing slang terms, and some of them are actually pretty good. The definitions truly are gross, thanks mostly to Kelly's use of color words in just about every description.
