The Billionaire Hart #2

Bossy Billionaire

Rate this book
A hotel CEO in need of a new assistant. A law school dropout in need of cash. The magical night they’re not supposed to talk about…

Kicked out of law school, a canceled train home, and no money in her purse leaves Lexi stranded in New York City. A one-night stand with a handsome stranger she’ll never see again is exactly what she needs to forget her troubles.

Days later, she’s offered the position of assistant to the CEO of a luxury hotel, with the promise of a bonus to pay her tuition. Lexi jumps at the chance to get her life back on track. Then fate screws with her when she meets her new boss. It’s him her one-night stand, the gorgeous man who took her to his penthouse and did dirty things to her all night long.

Only Luke Hart, the god glaring at her from behind his ornate desk, is not the same man from that intense night. They have to pretend it never happened. And the fire in Luke’s electric blue eyes when he looks at her suggests he’s not good at pretending.

Instead, he turns brutal and bossy, trying to make her quit. Lexi needs this job to get back into law school. So a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do.

So she figures the best way to get back at a grumpy billionaire boss is to play a game of revenge.

And that’s a dish best served naked…

How does this book have a 3.99 rating here?I wanted to DNF this book so many times but I have my reading goal to meet by the end of the year.

Lets start with the plot.  Great plot I was sold:  Guy meets girl at a bar. They have a great connection and spend a night together. They leave it there both wanting more but not saying it. She ends up getting a job and her boss is her one night stand.

Problems I had with it:
-The women main character in the beginning was a strong, independent law student 26 year old with a 3.95 gpa who needed one more semester to graduate law school and they ruined it!!!! She did the chasing.
-Once she sees her new boss she throws herself at him and he immediately shuts her down and she's like what why. Her boss is like I'm your boss now this can't happen
-She tries to seduce him so many times and he's like no. He literally tells her I can't do this, I'm weak, I need to prove to my brother I'm a good CEO blah blah blah and she keeps insisting.
-They made her sound so desperate. Her mom tells her "the one who loves least controls the relationship" yet she's like nope, don't understand.
-So she's mad at him, I forgot the reason but get this: HER revenge is setting him up with hot dates. And he didn't want to go but he couldn't cancel them. And she feels bad he's going on those dates. Like she is supposed to be smart and that was her revenge setting him up with dates. My mind can't comprehend it. Like girl, mix up his coffee, delete emails, ruin his shirts idk anything but that.
-Anyway they hook up in Chicago on a work trip and the next morning, she's gone. He gets the call his mom is at the hospital and she's nowhere to be found. She shows up and he's like I have to go sorry and she's like I'm not going with you and they argue. Instead of her being understanding, saying if you want me to come I'll go if not I'll take care of the work. Like she is not mature!!! He's a dumbass too don't get me wrong but I just hate how they ruined a strong independent character.
-Also he has a brother and his brother is constantly naked
-Also the brother who told him not to ruin the contract and not to sleep with her is a dick. Like clearly his brother has feelings for the MC and he's like get over it, it doesn't matter and the MMC was like okay what an idiot. The younger brother told the MMC why are you listening to him he literally did whatever he needed to do to win her over.
Things I did like
-The ending was cute and they got their HEA.

I'm really liking these billionaires in the Lords of Gotham series. This is book three, a complete stand alone, and is about Luke, heir apparent, the eldest of three brothers to inherit an outdated, but regally so, The Sterling hotel in Manhattan.
Through all sorts of coincidences, fate, karma, good luck or bad, whatever you may want to call it, Luke meets up with Lexi, thee perfect, no HIS perfect woman. Only he can't have her now. There are several good tropes to run through my mind in here between these two. To say Lexi is a little spitfire, is probably downplay, and she does give as good as she gets. Sometimes it backfires, and she falls for Luke--hard.
This journey has a lot of feels, and I especially loved the funny bits, oh wait, the heat was super smoking hot too. Even the lawyer speak was hot, who even knew counselors had it in them?
A great read anytime, low on angsty drama, the dynamics of three brothers who grew up comfortable around each other, maybe a bit too much so LoL, now trying to find their way, salvage their father's legacy, and finding love when they didn't know they were looking. This will keep you entertained til the end. I read this until the wee hours of this morning, not wanting to put it down. Tristan's journey is book 2, and Grayson's book 4 is coming very soon, I hope.
I received an ARC through Booksprout and am giving my thoughts voluntarily.

This story is a stand alone but I did recognize Tristan and Laney from the second book of the series. The Sterling Hotel inherited by the three Hart brothers is the setting for BOSSY BILLIONAIRE.

Luke is one of those CEOs that first dated a different woman every night and then ran through personal assistants because he was so difficult to work for. COO Tristan suggests a male assistant and they get a great recommendation for Alex Markham who turns out to be a woman Luke had a super hot one night stand with the night before she gets hired - unbeknownst to either of them.

I loved this couple because Luke really struggled to do the right thing and not sleep with an employee. He also has commitment issues. Lexi was down with having a one night stand but seeing Luke again made her want more nights. She wasn’t really shy about that and it pained all of us - Luke, Lexi and the reader when he had to keep turning Lexi down.

To further complicate things, the third brother, Grayson Is a terrible flirt and seems to enjoy yanking Luke’s chain about Lexi. It makes us realize Luke is really unsure of himself despite his swagger and CEO status.

I hope the next book is the series is about Grayson. He is troubled, depressed, and some lovely woman will have to straighten him out.

Lexi is a 26 year old who just learned she would have to leave law school in her final semester because she couldn’t afford the tuition. She goes to a bar and meets Luke, a lawyer, and after they talk for a while she ends up spending the night at his place with no last names, knowing this was just one night. After a misunderstanding with her name she is given an internship working for the CEO of a hotel who happens to be Luke from her fling. He is a lawyer but left to be CEO of the hotel he and his 2 brothers inherited and he and Lexi keep their past relationship to themselves. He still has feelings for Lexi but since he has screwed up in the past he doesn’t want to disappoint his brother so he decides his interactions with Lexi must remain professional. Lexi also still has feelings for Luke and her innuendo and biting comments are fun to read. Will Lexi and Luke be able to keep their relationship strictly professional or will they succumb to their feelings? Is a HEA possible?

I thoroughly loved reading this book. The author did a fantastic job developing the characters and writing about their flirtatious bantering. I especially loved the epilogue, it’s always fun to see a little of what the future holds. I hope to read and enjoy more Deborah Garland books.

Bossy Billionaire, Book 2 of The Billionaire Hart series (it is also also known as Book 3 of the Lords of Gotham series), was about Luke Hart, the new CEO of The Sterling Hotel, and Alexis "Lexi" Markham, former law school student/personal assistant to Luke Hart.
Side Note: Let me just preface this review by saying how utterly boring this book started out to be. By the time I reached the middle of Chapter 2...yes TWO...I was already putting it down and walking away...for TWO DAYS. It was a fripping YAWN FEST.
uke, the oldest of the three Hart brothers, co-owned the Sterling Hotel with them and had the job of CEO. His reputation as a manwh*re was widely known, and it kept getting him into trouble at work. Ever since he had stepped away from his law practice to take the head position at the hotel, he let the celebrity status go to his head and slept with anything on two legs.
Lexi, having fallen on hard times, had to stretch her classes at university out longer than normal. Six years into her attempt to get her law degree saw her near the end, with just a few months remaining before she graduated. However, with her money gone and no one offering to lend her money to finish, she was forced to unenroll before she could graduate.
Luke and Lexi first met at a bar when she was "helping" confront some guys ready to cause trouble. He was enamored with her when he noticed her pink, curly hair. They fell into bed together that night, then a few days later, Lexi was hired by Tristan, Luke's younger brother (from the second book). On her first day of work, she moved into the hotel. This was a perk that was provided to many of the hotel's employees.
Once again, this book was filled with inane information, things that the reader really didn't need to know. It was mortifying how much fluff n stuff the author used and abused just to fill the word quota. Who cared about which of the brothers had which penthouse? What did it matter if Grayson had clothes on or off? (Well, that might have been a bit titillating if the author had been more creative and shared the details, right? LOL) Who cared who had what colored sofa and who had which colored carpeting? Get to the point of the story and quit wasting time! This book dragged so badly that I was tempted to skip from Chapter 8 straight to the end. I hated Lexi's character SO freaking badly. I was slowly being won over by Luke, though. He, at least, was making the attempt to be a better man. I couldn't say that Lexi was trying to improve her image. It was sickening how many times she threw herself at Luke. It was like the girl had no self-respect.
When Luke kept giving Lexi the "cold shoulder", she decided to set him up on some dates with his former lovers, without his permission or even knowing she had done so. When he finally realized what she had done, Luke "declared war" on her and sought retaliation...by flaunting those women in her face. But it backfired on him when he saw how hurt she was when one of the girls turned up during a meeting between him and Lexi and was all touchy-feely with him. Lexi, for her part, had to suffer through all of the dates she'd set Luke up with and wasn't happy with herself for what she had done as her way of revenge for his coldness towards her.
What is it with authors and their wishy-washy characters? Luke, like so many other characters I've read lately, was so damned wishy-washy that it was pathetic to read about. "I love you, but..."; "I love you, give me a chance..."; "The contract is signed, so is your job. Goodbye.". Good grief, Charlie Brown!
While the plot was a bit weak, it was nothing compared to the lack of maturity in the two main characters. They both really needed to grow up and take responsibility for their actions. They just weren't believable, and they lacked integrity. Well, at least Lexi did. Luke sort of grew into his character and stepped up to the plate faster than she did.
The emotions in this book were all over the place and more than a tad messy. The angst was out of proportion, and the drama was too over the top. There wasn't really any heat or spice to the sexy scenes. They were actually tame and a bit bland. The whole thing just felt off-kilter and flat. With that in mind, the story didn't earn more than a three-star rating.

This book is the third in the Lords of Gotham series. I haven’t read the first two books in the series and at no time did I feel lost or felt like I was missing info, so this definitely reads as a standalone but book two is Luke’s brothers’ story. I really liked this story and I’m going to go back to read the first two and I can’t wait to read Grayson’s story.

Luke and Lexi meet in a bar one night and start talking. They both had a horrible day. They start talking and are attracted to each other so Luke invites Lexi over to his place. No last names were exchanged. Lexi leaves the next morning never to see Luke again, but fate has other plans. Lexi is hired by Luke’s brother to be his temp assistant. Now the woman he can’t get his mind off of is off limits. Luke decides he’s going to do anything he can to get Lexi to quit so he doesn’t cave and sleep with her again, so he’s mean and cold to her. Lexis strong and determined to stick through to the end because she needs the money. Can they both win, or will they lose the best thing that could have happened to them?

CEO Luke Hart was imposing as he walked through his luxury hotel. Lexi, a smart-mouthed law school student, needs tuition money for school. They meet one night at a bar and agree to a one-night stand, first names only. When they decide later they would like a second shot, they have no way of contacting each other.

Luke's brother hires a new assistant for him and, because Fate makes sure things happen, it turns out that Lexi got the job! Luke doesn’t want to cross that line, but he finds it impossible to stay away from the enticing young woman! With Luke trying to do the right thing pushing her away, and Lexi needing the job and determined to tolerate whatever he throws at her, it’s going to be a stormy work environment. Will Luke finally realize what’s important in his life? Will he give Lexi a chance?

I love cute stories with humor to keep it fun. This story line was good and I enjoyed the characters’ interactions. Grab your copy and join the fun as they work out their office etiquette together.

Luke Hart has his turn under the scope. As CEO of his family business he needed to clean up his act. He is a commitment-phobe so his string of women are long and plentiful. but now he is going through a different type of woman, you the ones who work as his assistant, for one reason or another he can't keep one. If is recommended that maybe if hired a male assistant he would have better results. The night before her new job Alex has a night of passion with the hottest guy alive. one night no promises in the dark. But oh they will see each other again. What is in a name? Well for one the new male assistant is not only not a man Alex is the one night stand he was thinking about. This makes for a tense work place for a whole other reason. Now fighting inner battles and desires is becoming unbearable for Luke and his brothers are no help. Alex has taken to her new position well but her desires to be with Luke again are unbearable and his constant rejection is bound to make her run.

This is my first time reading something by Ms. Garland and I really enjoyed it. It is part of a series, so I definitely want to go back and read the ones I've missed! Though I did not read the first two books, I had no trouble following the story. This story is about Luke, the eldest of three brothers to inherit The Sterling hotel in Manhattan. Luke is one of those guys that dates a different woman each night. He also can't keep any of his personal assistants, so he is given the suggestion to hire a male assistant, Alex Markham. Only to find out later it's the same woman he had a one night stand with the night before she was hired. I really enjoyed reading Luke and Lexi's story. They complemented each other well and their back and forth banter was fun and entertaining. This is a good book to add to your summer reading list.

Fighting What Was Meant To Be:
By Korkoi -
Wow! Luke was a reformed playboy, who has become a grumpy workaholic with a stick up his backside since becoming a CEO. Alexis’ life was focused solely on law school, but her was thrown into chaos just when she was very close to achieving her dream. One night of unbridled passion, combined with the hand of fate, will take these two through back and forth sexual encounters, unthinkable outbursts and a myriad of emotions before they realised, they were two sides of the same coin and needed each other to thrive. Luke and Alexis story is really interesting and entertaining, and I recommend it as one of your summer reads.

She's given an internship working for the CEO of a hotel who she finds out is Luke from their one night stand. Luke, doesn't want to screw this up since he still has feelings for Lexi, so he decides they must remain professional. Lexi also has feeling for Luke and she has a great time with her innuendo's and biting comments. They are hilarious. Will they be able to keep their hands off of each other and stay professional? We first met Luke Hart in Reluctant Billionaire just prior to him taking a leave of absence from his law firm. In Bossy Billionaire, we find him immersed in his duties of CEO of The Sterling Hotel, which he and his younger brothers inherited from his father. He is NOT a happy camper. A meeting and a night with law school student, Lexi, lightens his mood for a bit. And then she challenges him at work and at home.

Once again, Ms. Garland has given us an enjoyable pairing of seemingly different people who compliment each other so well, meet challenges together and find their happy ending. I anxiously await the youngest brother’s story and recommend the Lords of Gotham series.

After meeting the first of the Hart brothers with Tristan and Laney's story I was excited to read more and get to Luke's story... and I have to say I loved it!
Luke is the oldest brother: a successful lawyer who had to grudgingly leave his practice and take over as CEO of his dad's hotel. His one-night-stand, who coincidentally was the first to help through his night terrors, turns out to be his newly-hired intern. He decides to ignore the attraction and focus on the hotel's needs but can feelings be pushed aside so easily?
Ms. Garland does great plot development, deep characterization and creates such a realistic setting making the book so alive and unputdownable.

Worth the 5 stars!

I was looking for a humorous book to read to change up my usual. Luke and Alexis (Lexi) were just perfect for this. Luke is one of three billionaire brothers. Lexi is a pink-haired law student in her final semester. These two are great together! I think they kept me smiling from beginning to end

They meet in a club, after both of them have had a really crappy day. Luke is the CEO of the family hotel. Lexi is in law school, working to pay tuition. Luke's brother hires a new assistant for Luke, and surprise! They already know each other. Luke and Lexi are cute, perfect for each other, but also so funny together. She frustrates him with her teasing; he doesn't want to cross that employee/employer line so he turns into Grumpy Gus to try to keep her away. The characters are likable, easy to care about. I'm looking forward to Grayson's story next.

I like that this is different from every other boss romance I've read. Even though I haven't read any of the others in this series this family comes across as very supportive and interesting. I think Luke was a bit too indecisive for his age and stage in life and I think that Lexi is a very compassionate person but a little too pushy when it comes to Luke. They are both very smart--career-wise, wish their story was more romance driven but it was still an invigorating ride to the finish line.

Luke Hart was more than I gave him credit for and Lexie was just the right woman for him. They met on a first name only ONS so happenstance made for their reunion a shock.
He's fighting his past and she's trying to stay afloat, can they get a HEA?
It's a cute read with a separation period of two weeks, and I wished it didn't have the back and forth with Luke's feelings on whether or not it was a good idea to date his intern.

A very entertaining read from start to finish. I love how Luke and Lexi meet for the first time. Lexi is such a sassy, strong and kick-butt type of woman who compliments the bossy, overbearing CEO Luke. The dynamics of their professional and not so professional relationship triggers a lot of angst and smiles as they try to navigate to their HEA. This story was fun to read from start to finish, and I would highly recommend it to add to your library.

Being the bossy jerk he is, he pretends he doesn't know her. Hurt but needing the job she thinks he will change his mind. Luke stays as far from her as possible until she befriends Gray. Bossy Billionaire is the third book in the Lords of Gotham series and is an engaging romance read.

This grumpy boss romantic comedy is fun and lighthearted, short enough for an afternoon read. I really liked the characters; Luke and Lexi complement each other and try to fight their feelings. The storyline is well written and kept my interest from beginning to end. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

I absolutely loved this exceptional book that has three-dimensional characters living in a realistic world full of romance, moodiness, desire while living life to the fullest in billionaire status. The boss is grumpy then twists and turns occur leaving mixed feelings. I recommend reading this phenomenal book by an extraordinary author that knows how to captivate her reader’s attention and hearts. I received this book for a fair and honest review via BookSprout.

Lexi really wants to be a lawyer but school is expensive. Tuition is hard to come by expecially when you do not want to ask for help. A one night stand after having to cancel classes 2 months shy of graduation seems like a good idea. The woman at the bar gives Luke a spark he has not felt in years. Luke is kinda wondering how he might find her. When unexpectedly both find out the the new assistant hired for Luke is Lexi. Now to deal with the intense attraction while being professional.
