When I'm With You

Rate this book
Kennedy Ryan likes her life neat and orderly. Growing up in a big, rambunctious family, all she’s ever wanted is a little peace and quiet. She may not love her job, but she knows what to expect from it. And maybe she’s never been head over heels for any of her boyfriends, but they’re stable and practical. In her world, a life well-lived is a life well-planned. And there is nothing that gets under her skin more than the chaotic energy of Brooke Nicholas.

After an adolescence filled with unpredictability, Brooke Nicholas never got in the habit of expecting things. She managed to finish college, moved to Philadelphia, and lucked her way into working at a hip wine bar after graduation. Other than that, she takes life one day (or night) at a time, choosing to spend her time meeting new people and enjoying the moment.

Kennedy and Brooke have circled around one another for years without growing close, and it takes getting stuck together during a post-graduation trip for Kennedy to finally realize she may have only scratched the surface where Brooke is concerned. A growing friendship, an abandoned puppy, and no one to act as a buffer between them is going to upend a lot of ideas Kennedy had about her perfectly crafted world. And it’s going to terrify Brooke because, for the first time in her life, she feels like maybe she’s found a home.

So, I really loved this. I have a soft spot for Monica McCallan’s books. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve read 8 out of her 11 works and I think I’ve given them all a 4- or 5-star rating. “When I’m With You” is no different.

Kennedy Ryan and Brooke Nicholas are about as different as two people can be. They don’t really like each other but they share mutual best friends so they’re always in each other’s orbits. One snowy weekend they are forced to spend time together and learn there’s more to the other than they originally thought.
This starts off as kind of enemies-to-friends-lovers but they’re really not enemies for long. I think by chapter 5 they start off on their friendship and then my favorite part happens. THE MUTUAL PINING. It doesn’t happen all that fast because this is also a toaster oven romance where Kennedy has never been attracted to a woman before. So, for her, she’s a little slow on the uptake about what her feelings are. (I mean, it’s totally normal to want to hold hands and snuggle with platonic friends, right?) Brooke, who is bisexual, knows exactly what she’s feeling but refuses to do anything because she doesn’t want to mess up this special friendship they have developed.

I loved both Kennedy and Brooke, for different reasons. Brooke is just a sweetheart that you want to hug and love and protect. Kennedy is more reserved but is softy once you really get to know her. They were both just so lovable in their own way and I was rooting for them to get together very quickly. I thought their personalities complemented each other very well and they seemed to bring the best out in one another.
My only complaint was that the pining seemed to go on a bit long. I was yelling just kiss each other already and then I was yelling at them to kiss again since they just didn’t seem to get it the first time.

For angst lovers like me, I think there’s the right amount here. I think there’s some built-in angst with the mutual pining trope so I expected it and didn’t think it was too much. I think this is something that may vary for people depending on their idea of angst.

This is a fast and enjoyable read; it’s got cute characters and endless pining and an adorable puppy! I’m also hoping for a follow up on their best friends Julie and Hannah…I need their story!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

3 🐶 - cute but ....

Monica McCallan has written one of my favorite books of all time so, I know how awesome an author she is, but for some reason, this book and I did not connect. It was well written, but I just found myself skipping ahead. For me, it really started to drag when they both know they have feelings for each other but take "being a useless lesbian" to a whole new level. The "I like her so much, but she doesn't like me the same way", just dragged on way too long. Even after sharing a fireworks-inducing kiss, they are still très confus. Come on ladies! Read the room already!

Obviously, I am in the minority on this so YMMV, for sure, but for me, this book missed the mark.

Monica is still amazing, I will 💯 be reading more of her books.

This book had one of the most unique premises I've seen in a while. It's got a hint of enemies to lovers in the beginning that slowly morphed into friends to lovers. Kennedy and Brooke have been part of the same friend group for a few years now, although their relationship wasn't one of friendship but of tolerance at best. The friction between them right from the start was *chef's kiss* 💋👌🏻

I immediately developed a soft spot for Brooke as we got to know her little by little. They say friends are the family we choose for ourselves, and Brooke definitely clung to that outlook in life.

I'm someone who loves slow-burn romances, but I admit, the MCs' relationship moved unbelievably slow here for me. There was a point I wanted to shake these two idiots 'cause their second-guessing of each other's feelings got monumentally cumbersome! Who the F gets kissed then thinks, "Ah. You see... I'm still not entirely sure you like me. Hmm... 🤔" alsjbdflajkdf! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Clueless sapphics 🙄💆🏻‍♀️

At 83%, their feelings predominantly remained just inside their heads and not expressed outwardly in actions, which I wasn't a fan of. When the story's light on the plot, I don't think it's a good idea to make the MCs drag their confession so close to the end or to stretch the romance too thin.

I also had an issue with the events leading to the sex.

Authors, for the love of all things holy, please be mindful of your characters' hygiene before you make them jump each other's bones! 😭

Regarding other areas of improvement, becoming repetitive and wordy about peripheral plot points are things McCallan should be careful about. She is obviously a very talented author, but this minor dent in her writing is something I've observed in her other books as well. Like for example in this book, I don't need dozens of paragraphs telling me why Kennedy wasn't happy with her job. It was an easily understandable, minor detail that didn't need a deep digging into to get the point across.

I'm also now positive McCallan has a thing for lip-biting 😆 Her book, Perspective, had plenty of it too. And look, I get it. It's both sexy and cute. But I really think she should take it down a notch... Those poor lips lol! 👄😆

Without looking at my star rating, one might think I didn't like this book. Well, that simply isn't true. Both MCs were cute, sweet, and likeable. The transition in their relationship's dynamic was an enjoyable ride. Coming from a position of having clashing personalities, McCallan did a great job of making Kennedy and Brooke grow to care for each other.

This author's really becoming a solid contributor to the WLW genre. Her books are getting better over time. Though there are still things that can be polished in it, her writing clicks with me 👍🏻

P.S. I wish we witnessed Hannah and Julia finding out the new developments in their best friends' lives. That would've been a fun scene 😛

I'm a big fan of Monica McCallan. Not every book has been an insta winner for me, but I've never been disappointed either. And I absolutely love her books Then & Now and Tapping into Love. So I was very excited when I saw on twitter yesterday that she had a new release as I hadn't heard about it before. And since I wasn't feeling well yesterday and took a sick day from work, and the book I had started was a little heavier thematically- it was an easy decision to pick this up.

This book follows Kennedy Ryan and Brooke Nicholas. While Kennedy and Brooke shared a friend group in college, they never were close themselves as Kennedy always saw Brooke as flighty and lackadaisical, when she prefers to be very orderly and organized. But after being trapped on a trip together, they each learn to appreciate the other more effectively. Then they grow closer and closer over the course of the next year, and this is particularly confusing to Kennedy as she has never had feelings for a woman before?

This was adorable! I really enjoyed this book. It had so many elements to it, a little enemies to lovers with their early dynamic, a deep friendship built over several months (after years of already kinda knowing each other), then lots of angsty feels of both yearning for each other. And while that might sound like everything crammed into one, I felt each worked pretty well and balanced out the story for a fun vibe.

Both Kennedy and Brooke were such interesting characters and I really liked seeing them bounce off each other in good and bad ways! Brooke has a wonderful level of depth to her character and backstory that really explains her actions. I really felt Brooke's exuberance and zest for life, even though I fully am aware I'm very much a Kennedy in temperament in my life.

I do wish however we got a more on page heart to heart between the characters, especially regarding Brooke's troubled upbringing, but that's just because I'm a glutton for feels. I do think the relationship and bond between them worked really well as is.

I also wish we saw more of Hannah and Julia, Brooke and Kennedy's best college friends. If not in person, then maybe over text- as we did have some text communication but not a lot. Especially after Hannah figures out Kennedy's dilemma- I would have liked to maybe see Kennedy work out her feelings on page.

This book was really fun. It's a very fast read, it took me just a day to get through it- and it has a lot of punch for the package. 4.5/5

This was the book I didn’t know I was looking for!

Someone asked on Facebook recently, “What are you looking for in WLW fiction?” and my answer was “More story less angst!” and oh my, this book was just that. I loved everything about it, which was surprising because I am not always into slow-burn romances, but this book just stole my heart. It is one hundred per cent (in my opinion) the best book Monica McCallan has ever written.

I loved Brooke and her warmth and kindness. Her life is a bit chaotic, but I think that is about embracing as many possibilities as possible. I actually saw a lot of myself in Brooke. I loved being inside her head and how she was trying to keep herself from falling for Kennedy.

Kennedy was my favourite character. She seemed so stern initially, but what was underneath was a fierce protector, a loyal friend, and so much love that I felt myself just wanting her on every page. Her growth and acknowledgement of her past bad behaviours towards Brooke were actually endearing. She was probably just as loving and warm as Brooke, but her emotional walls hid it. She was most definitely my book crush.

Monica’s storytelling in this book was just superb. And if it’s the start of a new series, then I am even more impressed. Usually, the first book in a series sets up the central love story and the relationships surrounding them that will be spotlighted in the next book or books. But Monica built a world around them adaptable for more stories while still holding her laser focus on Brooke and Kennedy’s romance.

The epilogue in this book is officially one of my all-time favourites. It felt like a warm hug that just tied everything up in a big bow. So I was overwhelmed by the ending that I was glad I had the tissues handy.

When you look up soulmates in the dictionary, Brooke and Kennedy’s photo is a reference. They were meant to be together without a doubt. So even when they don’t want anything to do with each other, you can still feel the underlying tension. It’s really lovely to watch it all unfold.

This is a slow burn, so the sex scene is closer to the end and very sexy! But honestly, what got me were the moments of pure love and vulnerability between them. I don’t think I have ever called a sex scene beautiful before, but it really was. Filled with so much emotion and love. I’m tearing up writing this… Just thinking about Brooke and Kennedy’s connection.

Feeling a little overwhelmed with how much I adored this book. If you are looking for something to get you in the feels, then this book is for you. Also, there is a puppy? Who doesn’t love a romance with a puppy?

When I’m With You is most definitely the best book Monica McCallan has ever written. She excels at character development and keeping the reader invested in the character journey. This goes straight into my all-time favourite folder!

This was such a slow burn but I enjoyed every moment. The uncertainty between Kennedy and Brooke hit close to home for me so I totally empathised with both women. To be honest, I really didn’t like Kennedy at the start of the book but her acknowledging she was an arsehole to Brooke endeared me to her. Brooke… Brooke just makes me want to hug her and tell her she’s not alone.

McCallan just keeps getting better and better. It’s amazing how much her writing has changed from her first debut book up to now. I’m so happy I didn’t write her off after her first few books because she’s really got me hooked with her latest work.

An emotional rollercoaster of a book!

Monica McCallan is one of my go-to lesfic authors and Lori Prince is one of my favourite narrators. Join them together and it’s a day in lesfic paradise.

Kennedy Ryan likes to live a predictable life, even if she doesn’t like her job or has never been in love with any of her ex-boyfriends. Brooke Nicholas had an unpredictable adolescence so she never expects too much and likes living the moment. Kennedy and Brooke have friends in common but never got along much until a blizzard got them stuck together during a weekend off and they start to really get to know each other. As their friendship grows so does their mutual attraction. But will they take a chance on each other?

This is an opposites-attract romance that eventually develops in a friends-to-lovers trope. Kennedy and Brooke are acquaintances who have very good friends in common but they don’t seem to get along. They just put up with each other when they are together and ignore each other the rest of the time. That’s until the group of friends takes a weekend off and Kennedy and Brooke get stranded alone in a winter cabin. Forced away to share the space without the buffer of their mutual friends, they start to address why they don’t get along. What follows is a year-long journey from distant friends to close friendship and the start of a mutual attraction.

Friends to lovers is an inherently angsty trope. Two people who are already bonded by love (though the friendship kind), who know, get and support each other. A relationship that can be even physical in a platonic way, sometimes even flirty. A relationship that can sometimes blur the lines of said physical contact. So when one, or both as in this case, start to grow feelings in a less than platonic way, things start to get confusing. Does the other person have the same feelings? Is it worth it to risk a friendship and maybe ruin it all for the possibility of love? Well, this book is exactly what it’s all about. The full-fledged feelings, the angst, the secretly pining for the other person.

However, When I’m with you doesn’t stop at that, it’s also a story about two very different people trying to find their way in life and accompanying each other along the way. It has a new adult feel where both women are figuring out their place in the world, personally and professionally. Usually, readers will tell you that in romance “it’s all about the journey”, it is indeed, in this case, a journey of character growth. A journey that they embark on together realising that maybe they are meant for much more.

I loved both characters, they are likable and relatable in their very different ways, the push and pull is epic, the pining and the angst are compelling. I’m not particularly a fan of angsty stories but I thought it was very well done here. I would have personally have liked more steam in the intimate scenes but I understand that it’s not the main purpose of this book. Brooke and Kennedy have chemistry in spades and complement each other very well.

Lori Prince narrated this audiobook and once again shows that she’s a perfect match for Ms. McCallan’s writing. This is an emotional rollercoaster of a book and Ms. Prince performed it as the absolute pro that she is. It definitely improved my enjoyment of the story and gave me all the feels. If you like angsty romances, then this one is for you. 4.5 stars.

ETA: re-read, i remember loving and rlly connecting to Brooke the first go around, and this time, Kennedy rlly stole my heart<3

~~~~~
I adored this. It’s likely one that will get bumped up to a fiver upon a reread or listen. I’ve loved (nearly) every book by Monica MacCallan, and I’ve loved the three that I’ve listened to narrated by Lori Prince the most. This narrator/author combination is PERFECTION. i really loved both main characters here, but Brooke especially stole my heart. This was such a good (lil bit of enemies) to friends to lovers story, but there is so much more to it. Brooke and Kennedy each individually figuring themselves and early adulthood out separately (and together) was just such a good journey. This will be a reread and listen, for sure. I really hope she gets Lori Prince to narrate basically all of her other stories. Absolute rec.
Well done!
By a twist of fate, Kennedy and Brooke are forced to spend a lot off time together in a secluded cabin. A cabin they rented with their mutual friends Julia and Hannah, for a weekend getaway. During the years they have known each other, Kennedy has developed a strong aversion to Brooke. If it wasn’t for these friends, Kennedy would never be anywhere near Brooke. According to Kennedy, Brooke was unpredictable, undependable and chaotic. Brooke was all sparkle and no substance. Exactly the opposite of her. You can imagine that this situation caused a lot of frustration and awkwardness. “When I’m with you” is a well-crafted story. It’s a slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers romance with great characters. Their struggle was heart wrenching. I loved the dynamic between the main characters and I adored Frankie. I can certainly recommend this great read.
To Be With You is a wonderful story about two women who couldn’t be more different. Kennedy is organized, practical, and always plans ahead, while Brooke is chaotic, spontaneous, and lives in the moment. They don’t like each other, but since they share a group of mutual friends, they end up seeing one another regularly. One weekend with their friends changes everything, leading them on a journey neither of them expected.
This was an amazing enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance, and I absolutely loved it. The dynamic between Kennedy and Brooke was fantastic, and their slow burn relationship was done perfectly. I really appreciated how their connection built over time rather than rushing into anything. It made the eventual romance feel so much more satisfying. And Frankie? Absolutely adorable!
I’m also glad this book didn’t go the usual route where the couple gets together too quickly, only to break up around 70%. The pacing was just right, and it made their journey even more enjoyable. If you’re in the mood for a sweet, slow burn romance without too much drama, this book is definitely for you!
Audiobook Review:
I also listened to the audiobook version of To Be With You, and Lori Prince’s narration was superb. She did a great job bringing Kennedy and Brooke’s personalities to life, capturing both their differences and the slow-building chemistry between them. I especially enjoyed how she voiced the characters—her tone and pacing really fit the book’s vibe. Listening to the audiobook made the experience even better, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a great performance to go along with a fantastic story!
I think the author, Monica McCallan, has considerable skill in describing characters and relatively good dialogue. I will definitely check out her other books.
I was pleased to think this might be a story without some drama happening to cause a relationship crisis, but alas the drama happened and reading became a chore for a good bit. Also, both characters being afraid to open up and reveal their feelings went on too long for my taste.
That said, I was surprised by the author's ability to write so well. Her descriptions of the main characters felt like real people to me and I knew them fairly well. I identified with Kennedy and I need to go and reflect on this choice :)
3.5
I love McCallan’s writing style so this was an easy read for me.
It’s a typical (and predictable) enemies-to-friends then friends-to-lovers story with most of the cliches you would expect from that trope.
It’s a very slow burn but there’s only 17 chapters so I don’t mind that too much as the pacing felt right for the characters.
If you want a short and sweet sapphic romance book then I recommend When I’m With You.
Re-Read December 27/21.
Upping this to 4 stars. Any book that inspires a re-read (and isn’t an assigned read—I’m looking at you, Jane Eyre) deserves 4 stars.
3.5 stars.
This was my first Monica McCallan book and I can honestly say I’m looking forward to reading more from the author. And I really liked the dynamics of this story. I like the idea of two people existing in each other’s orbit by default. In this case, Kennedy and Brooke only interact because of their mutual friends, Julia and Hannah. But Kennedy has never warmed to Brooke, despite how often they have to hang out together.
But a months-post-graduation, pre-Christmas trip to a cabin means Kennedy and Brooke, who both live in Philadelphia, must carpool to the cabin together. And because a blizzard delays Hannah and Julia’s arrival, Kennedy and Brooke are literally stuck together, and it’s Kennedy’s worst nightmare.
But then something changes. Well, it’s more that Kennedy and Brooke each make efforts and an actual friendship is born and then it turns out that there are romantic feelings in the mix too.
I don’t have another McCallan book to compare this to, so I’m not sure if this is a common stylistic choice or if it’s unique to this book, but this was an unusual narrative. It felt like a series of connected vignettes more than it did a typical novel. It was odd, but it wasn’t off-putting.
I really enjoyed this enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story. What’s keeping it out of the 4-star range for me is the mutual pining without an actual conversation went on way too long for me. And then, when they finally do get together, it’s wrapped up a bit too quickly for me. There is a satisfying epilogue, but I wanted more time with them together-together.
Oh boy is the description of the two MCs "circling each other" in the write-up ever true! Brooke and Kennedy surely circle, for basically the entire book, but Ms. McCallan is quite good at taking this slow build up time to create very interesting characters. I really fell for Brooke and her heart breaking story, seeing how she has built herself up by surrounding herself with solid people and being kind and generous. Kennedy was much slower to warm to, but I eventually got there.
I'd say this book could have been edited, around 70% I felt it was starting to lag and some parts became redundant. We readers have to wait an excruciating 90% for the sexy times, but hey, I enjoyed the book overall, so give it a shot.
Our main characters in this book are ~23, just out of college. I think maybe I should qualify this as NA.
Kennedy doesn’t like Brooke, hasn’t liked her from the moment they met. Brooke doesn’t know why Kennedy doesn’t like her, she just thinks their personalities don’t match. It takes a while before we learn why Kennedy doesn’t like Brooke and it’s a stupid reason, which she acknowledges. We seems them building a nice friendship that obviously has a lot of meaning for both of them. Brooke has some issues from her past that she doesn’t talk about, she loves talking and people, just doesn’t let them close. Kennedy breaks down her walls and without really realising it they are sort of dating, but not really.
The characters don’t get together until very late in the book, talking 80-90%, it’s ok because they are together and developing their relationship throughout the book. What I don’t like is that they are intimate once and they say their i-love-yous. It’s just too soon, even on this friendship turned romance.
Overall this is a fun read, I’d have loved to have them in a couple a little while longer, but they do all the couple-y things as friends as well. Also, this isn’t an enemies to lovers, it’s more friends to lovers as the enemies part is over very quickly. Plus the hostility is one sided.
So heartwarming!
Kennedy and Brooke have known each other and while, and they couldn’t be more different. When they end up stick together, they discover more about one another, and finally Kennedy is learning there is more to Brooke than she thought. Together they finally explore the friendship they have been avoiding, but an abandoned puppy and little understanding brings them closer than ever.
Loved this story so much. It was cute, very sweet, and filled with so many moments that made my heart ache in good and bad ways. Kennedy and Brooke had this great connection, even when they weren’t that close yet, and you just knew they would be good together, so I am glad they got the chance. This story very cleverly explored being kind, caring, and understanding of the differences you share with others. You never really know someone, and you won’t if you don’t both open up and be honest with one another.
It was the little puppy stealing the show though. It really sealed that connection between Kennedy and Brooke, showing both of them how good they were as people and together. I loved those scenes, with all the emotion and cuteness in them.
This was just a lovely simple story about not really knowing what you have until you are forced to explore it and then discovering wonderful things. It was a lovely romance with so much heart and soul, I was enjoying every moment of it and hope Brooke and Kennedy will appear in more stories by Monica because I’d love to get to know them even better!
4.75⭐️ Argh the chemistry and the pining!! I enjoyed this so much. Both Brooke and Kennedy are individually loveable and together they are adorable. The only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars, was that after a looooong wait for these two to get it together, it all finished far too fast, with the ending sadly feeling rushed.
I couldn’t put this down, and feeling the sleep deprivation now. A delightful book.
I've enjoyed every Monica McCallan book that I've read so far - great characters, great storylines, excellent writing! Add Lori Prince's unfailingly stellar narration and you know there's no way you won't enjoy listening to them! I'll definitely be getting the rest of Monica's books in Audiobook format even though I've already read them :)
5/5 - I'll be listening to this one again in a few months and definitely recommend it!
Update: decided to bump this up to 4 stars after reading Back to the Start.
Nothing particularly wrong with this, a very wholesome story.
I didn't really connect with the characters, even though I liked them. But it didn't bring much of an emotional feedback.
This being a friends to lovers trope and me reading Haley Cass right before also might have been part of a problem. Her books really set high expectations for me, it's hard not to compare.
This was so cute. I don’t know how else to describe it. The MCs had to change to be together but you could feel the wanting. Their personalities could’ve been overpowering and overdone but where described and developed marvelously, so they became endearing instead of stereotypes.
Brooke has been right in front of Kennedy for years, but she'd never really seen her. Their mutual friends Hanna and Lisa were always present as a buffer between them. Because of a snow storm they spend two days one on one in a cabin and get to know each other better. A friendship starts en slowly, very, very, very, way too slowly, grows into something more.
It took me a while to get into it because at first, the perspectives of both main characters seemed a bit mixed up. I sometimes lost track because I couldn't recall which head I was in.
The characters were great and the story was enjoyable to read, but it was the most overblown slow-burn romance ever. Never before have two people been circling around each other as much as Brooke and Kennedy. And just when I thought something romantic was finally about to happen, a major drama arose over a small thing. The ending was very happy though. 4-⭐️
When I'm with you is a slow, relly slow burn enemies to lovers romance bewteen the supposedly straight Kennedy and out and proud Brooke, who seem so thoroughly different, that they don't get along at all in spite of having two other young women as common best friends. When forced by circumstance to get along being snowed in, a tentative understanding seems to develop, but back in "real life", they block each other out again, in spite of the sizzeling attraction.
I could have done with one or two loops less of their lack of properly talking to one another and reacting out of fear, as common sense, something both seem to be capable of otherwise, should have made them understand earlier, why they behave like they do. The twists at the end could have come erlier for me and a slightly more condensed version would certainly have got 5 stars from me.
There's a lot to Monica McCallan's books that make them great, but sometimes I think the best way to get it across is to boil it down to one trope that is just, perfectly executed. In that vein, this book is a friends to lovers masterpiece.
Featuring two young women held together by their mutual friends who never really clicked despite their social bonds, Brook and Kennedy face the life struggles of leaving college and starting out in their careers. Through this they come to rely on each other wind up entangled in each others lives in a way that is just, spot on tragic gay pining.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read, the characters felt so grounded and relatable as they faced the personal struggles that crop up in that phase of life. It's a wonderful story to get swept up in.
mother of all slowburns
if there’s one thing Mccallan knows to do, it’s to write sexual tension like no one else. seriously it’s like dangling a carrot on a string at the end of a treadmill to a bunny. the tension alone propels you forward and you are an unstoppable gay person.
it’s almost embarrassing the chokehold this slowburn had me in. like i was 50% in and they had only just held hands but that alone had me crying and throwing up.
definitely not one of mccallan’s best books but i appreciated the lesson in patience.
I love everything Monica McCallan writes. Her characters always seem attractive, modern, and relevant.
They dynamic between these two main characters was cute after starting off at odds.
I love books where the main characters are clearly in some type of relationship but they don't even recognize it.
Monica McCallan is one of my favourite authors and I absolutely love Lori Prince! When I’m with you was a story I was excited to start.
I really enjoyed the first half of this story, loved Kennedy’s and Brooke’s connection and their background stories. As well as all the supporting characters weaved throughout, Mrs.Ryan, Maureen, Vanessa, Betsy and of course Frankie!.
Typically I enjoy a enemies to friends/friends to lovers/ slow burn story and this is definitely a slow burn but it’s frustratingly too slow for me.
I really wanted to give this a 5 star but I found myself skipping ahead too often. While listening I just found too much was concentrated on the build up and their doubts for one another and not enough on their relationship as a couple once they were on the same page.
