Perry Rhodan NEO: Volume 1 (Perry Rhodan NEO

Rate this book
Amid crises in politics, climate change, terrorism, and more, humanity’s limited remaining hope lies in science and an increasingly decrepit space program. When a key moon base goes dark, it’s up to chief astronaut Perry Rhodan and his crew to mount a rescue operation - or so the story goes in the press. The truth about Rhodan’s mission, however, is a deeper, greater secret than the public can imagine, and the aftermath of what Rhodan finds will change Earth - if not the entire universe - forever... if there's still an Earth for him to come home to.

I am glad the series is finally coming back in English.

I first read the series whenever I was in high school in 1973. The only produced 126 volumes translated from the original German. Forrest Ackerman and his wife when Wyndane Ackerman where are the primary producers of this series. The story was published by Ace books. I read the new book Perry Rhodan and Neo volume l and I can’t wait to read volume ll. I have the original series numbers 1 to 126 That I have kept and I’ve read the series at least three times completely through. However I am going to read it again in the new Kindle format with the new authors or should I say translators. All I can say guys keep up the good work I can’t wait to read your further works.

Having read the original series when it was being translated into English decades ago, and is now over 3000 installments and ongoing, I wanted to see if this would convince to try the reboot. After all 300 books is less than 3000+.

The answer is no.

It really isn't that bad. It is that I recall the original (printed in 1961 Germany if I recall correctly) and this doesn't deviate that much from the regular Perry Rhodan. Rhodan and Bull are still USA astronauts on a moon mission who discover the more advanced Arkonide ship on the moon.

On Earth the major powers are headed to nuclear annihilation or economic and climate destruction . Take your pick it is the middle of the 21st century in the reboot.

Supporting cast from the original series are also present and much more developed than in their first incarnation. John Marshall has gone from bank teller to a person running a shelter for teens/young adults. Allan D Merchant is a spy master on the run, and even Homer Adams gets more development.

The problem for older readers like myself who read the 131 books translated for USA consumers is the following question.

Is this either so outstanding I don't care how much it repeats of what I've previously read, or it is so repetitive that I don't want to continue.

For me, it is the repetition. If you're new to the series I would suggest Neo. More character work, at least slightly better writing, and less of a catch up to attempt.

Great story

I read the 1st run when it came out and enjoyed it a lot. I was sorry when they stopped the English translations. They have hosted the year and the world situation to make a little less pulp style. I can confirm that I like this as much if not more than the 1st run. I just hope we get more books. Give this zero a try.

I read the original in the 1960s and this updated version is just as good, if not better

A good story with insightfulness. I hope that a number of first class movies are made based on Perry Rhodan. The movie Mission Stardust was a very poor example of the possibilities.

This updated take on the Perry Rhodan series is not only welcome but a breath of fresh air.

The original series was ahead of its time back in the day and even with it still being entertaining after all this time, its tech is outdated.

This new 'reboot' changes the timeframe to 'current' so that the story is still a wonder of things that might come only in a world that we are all to used to.

A good reboot

A few odd phrases here and there, but overall a solid effort.

Would very much prefer the ‘70s art style from the original series to the manga.
