Jane Austen's Emma goes Bollywoood in this delightful retelling from the highly acclaimed author of Accidentally Engaged, perfect for fans of Abby Jimenez and Jasmine Guillory.Kamila Hussain’s life might not be perfect, but, whew, it’s close. She lives a life of comfort, filled with her elaborate Bollywood movie parties, a dog with more Instagram followers than most reality stars, a job she loves, and an endless array of friends who clearly need her help finding love. In fact, Kamila is so busy with her friends’ love lives, she’s hardly given any thought to her own . . .

Fortunately, Kamila has Rohan Nasser. A longtime friend of the family, he’s hugely successful, with the deliciously lean, firm body of a rock climber. Only lately, Kamila’s “harmless flirting” with Rohan is making her insides do a little bhangra dance.

But between planning the local shelter’s puppy prom, throwing a huge work event, and proving to everyone that she’s got it all figured out, Kamila isn’t letting herself get distracted—until her secret nemesis returns to town with an eye for Rohan. Suddenly, it seems like the more Kamila tries to plan, the more things are starting to unravel—and her perfectly ordered life is about to be turned upside down.

When a brilliant romcom author who achieved to make you happy with her words before decides to write a book about the retelling of Emma sets in Toronto, you just request an arc and as soon as you get it: you just pop up your special champagne for celebration! That’s not so quick but a little elaborated version of my reading journey ( just the beginning part)

Both Kamila and Rohan are so much likable. Back story parts, character development were great!

This is light hearted, sweet, feel good romance we truly need at this time of the year. Who am I kidding? We always need romance at any time of the year!

Kamila loves to work as CPA at her father’s accounting firm. She loves her living situation - a quaint brownstone at east Toronto. She loves her social life, her volunteering gig. It seems like only thing she doesn’t like much is dating!

And Rohan is supportive long time friend, her sister’s brother in law, helping her to take care of her father. Their fathers are partners. Their families are already connected.

But Kamila’s peaceful life derails when her long time arch enemy decides to return back to town.
Overall: I think at some parts my love for Rohan surpassed my sympathy for Kamila! What a dreamy book boyfriend!

This is such a good friends to lovers troupe with smart and entertaining banters!

Absolutely I recommend it to any one who needs something fresh, energizing, making you feel good!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Forever ( Grand Central Publishing) for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

Happy publishing day to this gem!!

Kamila Knows Best is fun and lively!! I found this to be a super enjoyable read. Kamila and Rohan are both fantastic characters and super likable. Kamila is independent, sassy, and driven. Rohan is the definition of a perfect book boyfriend! I could definitely feel the blossoming chemistry between them. This book had a Bollywood theme and super cute dogs involved within the storyline which added more fun to the book. This is a light, easy read that leaves you with a smile on your face. Also, I love the cover, it is cute and eye-catching!

Thank you Net Galley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for an ARC of this book in return for my honest review!

I adore Farah Heron's writing. However, I don't like Austen, and specifically Emma is in my top ten least favourite books of all time: it brings on my psoriasis. So this was a toss up, ahaha.

Obviously loads of people love Jane Austen retellings and more power to their elbows: people loving books is always good, and "oh this is my favourite scene but different!" is a wonderful feeling. Which I don't have because I don't have the favourite scene, so I just sit there grumpily noticing the bits where the adherence to Austen gets in the way of the perfectly good new story that the author's telling. (In my opinion. Austen fans will doubtless disagree violently.)

This mostly didn't feel Emma-ish to me, in that I enjoyed it hugely. Unlike Emma, Kamila isn't a smug interfering cow, and her very limited matchmaking is done out of love and isn't obtrusive or manipulative (although the MC still dresses her down for it as per Emma, which struck me as grossly unfair and felt a bit like it was there to be an Austen reference, rather than arising organically).

Actually, Kamila is great. She's fluffy, image-and-social-media obsessed, and has a dog she dresses up in clothes, which showed my prejudices up nicely because those are not things I find appealing, but you know what, she does those things because she likes them and they don't make her shallow or vapid. What the hell is feminism for if women can't dress how they please and like the things they enjoy? Kamila plants her flag for being 'girly' and insists on being taken seriously with it, and good for her. We should all have got past the contempt for 'girliness' in this post-Legally Blonde world.

Rohan is mostly lovely (and absolutely not smug, superior and groomy as per Mr Knightley. God, I hate Emma). The point where he lets her down badly is really plausibly set up and played out, and he works to make it up. I also loved Kamila's relationship with her 'nemesis'--in fact they've been set up to fail by family influence and rivalry, and their reconciliation through female solidarity is terrific. But mostly I loved that (unlike bloody Emma) Kamila doesn't have to change because there is nothing wrong with her. She has insecurities, she has made and makes mistakes, she takes on too much (DON'T WE ALL DO ALL OF THAT), but fundamentally, she wants and deserves respect for who she is, and her HEA comes when she really starts feeling that within herself as well as knowing it intellectually. Turns out Kamila *does* know best. So there.

This was a challenge for me, because Emma is my least favorite Austen novel.

I do however love Clueless. So the story isn't lost to me I just need some tweaks.

Clueless works because everyone is so young it makes sense with all the immature plot points.

Kamila Knows Best kept all the miscommunication, childish reactions, and other immature parts but the characters are in their late 20s and early 30s which doesn't mesh as well.

And maybe it's just me and my friends but nobody has time for all these in person meetings to deliver gossip. Texts and phone calls are good enough.

Clueless also makes Cher significantly more likeable than Emma so you root for her. Kamila isn't particularly likeable. She's a little whiny and isn't great at putting 2 and 2 together. I also find her silly faux cuss words lame.

There are some good parts. Kamila and her crew havw a very sex positive attitude. The book discusses mental health in immigrant communities. There is a lot of talk about dogs.

I am rounding up to 4 stars because I always appreciate the mention of satin bonnets, but this book is like a 3.25.

Kamila Knows Best is a friends to lovers romance / loose retelling of Emma by Jane Austen, and it was adorable! Kamila is the endearing heroine who's living her good life, planning Bollywood movie parties, setting up her friends' love lives, and owning a dog who’s famous on Instagram. Rohan is a longtime friend of the family and she’s always considered him a friend... until recently. She starts having feelings and getting jealous when her childhood nemesis shows up back in town and seems to get close to Rohan. Kamila and Rohan were so sweet together – I loved their closeness, how they supported the other, and how they knew each other inside and out. If you're looking for a light, fun romance, read this!

I have no idea why I am so drawn into the South Asian retellings of Jane Austen novels. I see one and I cannot resist even despite the fact that I usually don't enjoy them that much. This particular one is "Emma" set in Toronto with safe, 5 year age difference between mr Knightley (Rohan) and Emma (Kamila). You probably already know how it ends ;).

Kamila Knows Best is really hard to rate. I absolutely loved how Kamila's character was executed, her extra-ness well balanced by a really big heart. I started the book rolling my eyes at her antics but slowly grown fond of her with the progression of the story. Rohan, mr Knightley of this book, despite being only slightly older than Kamila, has his life figured out. He is a typical rom-com heartthrob with pure heart, muscular body and thick wallet. Boring, forgettable, not even one tiny character flaw. Good juxtaposition for colorful Kamila but otherwise pretty bland. I feel like this conrtast between main characters echoes throughout this book with one or two chapters being quite enjoyable followed by the chapter that makes you want to DNF (like the one with slut-shaming). If you will decide to read this book don't get discouraged by a chapter that you just can't get into - next one is probably much better. Solid book.

Kamila has a pretty great life - a job she loves, friends she adores and who adore her, a wonderful dog, and of course Rohan, her childhood friend who's always been by her side. Nothing needs to change. Right? Right?

I adored this book. Partly because I love Emma and enjoyed picking out its echoes here, but what sold me most on this book are the characters. Kamila is a heroine I loved rooting for, one who felt authentic with her joy and her insecurity. Rohan was an absolutely swoon-worthy hero who had sizzling chemistry with Kamila.

But the plot of the book is also great, as Kamila works to silence the critical voice in her head. The struggles she faces as a woman who is underestimated due to her femininity rang true, and I appreciated that the author focused on her work life as well as the romance.

Overall, a really wonderful romance with lovable leads and an engaging plot.

I’ve been grouchy about the resurgence of Austen contemporary retellings (what is the point if you only have name similarities and allusions?!?), but I was impressed by KAMILA KNOWS BEST’s homage — and divergence — to the source material. The most important part of Emma (my favorite Austen) is that the titular character walks a thin line between self-absorbed and well-meaning, ultimately landing on the latter side. My main issue with Emma retellings is that the character lands on the wrong side, but Kamila balances that tightrope perfectly.

Read via audio (narrated by Soneela Nankani).

Confession: I have yet to read Austen's Emma but I really enjoyed this desi retelling!!!

If you're into any, or all of the following:

- Bollywood mentions/flailing
- (best) friends to lovers romance with mutual pining!!!!
- Brown women solidarity
- puppies and finance talk (not me but I still liked the book)
- LGBTQ+ representation
- flirty and adorable banter
- lots of delicious food descriptions
- Canada (specifically Toronto) setting

Then you should read this. GO. NOW.

Content warning: racism (microaggressions), sexism, past parental abuse, chronically ill parent (depression and heart problems)

I LOVE Farah Heron's novels and Kamila Knows Best is now the third book I have read by her leaving only her debut left for me to get to. I enjoyed every moment of this story and was completely clueless until I was done that Kamila is based on Jane Austen's Emma. Classics are not my strong suit, so this isn't a book I have read, but it still made me love Kamila even more. There is just a touch of spice which is just the way I like it, and so many loveable characters, including dogs! There were a ton of adorable puppy scenes thanks to Kamila being in charge of a puppy prom, and I loved those moments most of all. Never mind the fact that I love the flawed and amazing woman that is Kamila. There is also a ton of depth to the story, and this is definitely way more than your average romcom.

I also don't think I have met a Heron book on audio that I have not liked, and they picked another winning narrator with Soneela Nankani. Nankani has narrated a ton of books I am planning on listening to, and I couldn't be happier because she was the best. She made Kamila and the other characters come alive, and really helped with my connection to the story as well. AND she also narrated Accidentally Engaged, so it was really a joy to have her narrating this one as well. Kamila Knows Best is perfect parts romance, family, humor, and heartfelt moments, and if you enjoy the less spicy romances out there then I think you will enjoy this book. Kamila is a very complex and layered character, and of course, I also adored Rowan and was rooting for the two the entire time. Between the Bollywood theme, the dogs, and the chemistry between these characters (plus did I mention Rowan sounds super hot??), I was totally hooked.

This was my first Farah Heron book, but I want to read them all now!

At first, I went a bit back and forth on this one. Starting it, I immediately loved Kamila and Rohan, who were both amazing characters. Then eventually, the book got a little heavy on their jobs - they're both accountants - and that didn't interest me as much. I almost DNFd, but I'm very glad I didn't.

Because the second half of the book absolutely made the book for me, it was so good! There was so much emotional and psychological depth, and so much development, and I felt very invested in the romance. It was kind of a slowburn, but I shipped them so much from the start, and the third act conflict was actually really believable and didn't feel forced like often happens in romance books.

I LOVE Farah's stories and I think Kamila Knoes Best is my favorite. The Emma vibes were amazing and it's got one of the best friends-to-lovers romance I've read. The banter between Kamila and Rohan was to die for. And I just really really loved Kamila?? More coherent thoughts to come!!

It's... another Austen adaptation! I know, there are a lot of those out there these days. Overall, though, I really enjoyed what Kamila Knows Best did with the source material, including making itself different enough that you didn't feel like you were reading in the shadow of something else. The plot was slow going for me at times, but overall the romance was swoony and the pace picked right up in the second half without getting too melodramatic. Kamila's character also gave me a LOT to think about in terms of modern takes on Emma.

Hands down the most successful part of this book for me was the romance between Kamila and Rohan. Literal lifelong friends-to-lovers is not easy to pull off, because the reader has to believe that these two people have been Just Good Friends for all of their lives, but that somehow - coincidentally right around the time you opened the book - that starts to change. I think Heron pulls this off to *perfection.* From the first scene with Rohan and Kamila on-page together, there's an absurd amount of energy between them - an energy that is constantly dancing back and forth between platonic teasing and flirtation. It helps that Kamila has such a fizzy, flirty personality, so it's pretty easy to buy that both she and Rohan would write off their chemistry as nothing more than a side effect of that part of her personality. But as a reader, you can just feel the difference when she's with Rohan.

Also, my word Rohan is a swoony romance hero. Buttoned up and greying at the temples and so serious about the people he loves, but not afraid to slap on a polka-dot apron and help you prepare food for your Bollywood movie night. I enjoyed him immensely.

In terms of being an Emma adaptation (and I'm going to get mildly spoilery throughout here), the biggest change this book makes is dialling back the non-consensual matchmaking quite a bit. Kamila does still love to set her friends up romantically, to mixed success. But while she can be a bit oblivious when her desired match isn't working out, she doesn't fly in the face of other people's personal autonomy in order to enforce her own agenda.

Instead, the book takes a really clever twist on the Emma vibe by interweaving Kamila's mild medding/interfering with a whole lot of people-pleasing. She hosts lavish Bollywood movie nights at her house that are all about catering to her guests. She's super social-media conscious, to the point that putting together posts for online approval often takes over her schedule. She says yes to EVERYTHING at work. She dresses in a very put-together, colorful, super-feminine aesthetic that seems calculated to please, but also immediately switches up her look when she thinks that "seriousness" is what's needed to impress a potential client. And the book is very invested (as Emma is) in recognizing these feminine-coded behaviors as skills, but also acknowledging that society doesn't always react to them as such. Kamila struggles a lot with not being taken seriously at work because of her "frivolous" feminine aesthetic - and throughout the novel we get to see how that aesthetic is both a burden and an integral part of who Kamila is.

The book also considers how the people-pleasing that underpins Kamila's aesthetic is ... both an act of love, and a sometimes-hurtful form of interference and estrangement from her true self. It's really, really complex and well-done. The low moment emerges organically from Rohan's inability to distinguish what Kamila really wants from what she's just doing to please others and ... it turns out that's actually quite fair, because Kamila also needs to learn to distinguish those things for herself, as well. Which is a journey I found super compelling.

I do think it's worth mentioning that lot of Kamila's people-pleasing tendencies come out of a pretty traumatic backstory with her mother: I felt that was given slightly short shrift by the plot. For something so integral to who she is, it's not given a lot of page time, and as a result the mother also kind of collapsed into a one-dimensional female villain. At the same time, I can see how dwelling on parental emotional abuse would work against the otherwise upbeat vibe of the book. Plus, in terms of understanding how women can kind of... misunderstand and react poorly to each other for how they navigate a patriarchal world, Kamila's relationship with her rival Jana is doing much more interesting work.

At its heart this is a book about desire, which means that Kamila's journey to owning who she wants to be and what she wants to do with her life - and that she wants Rohan romantically - all fit together in a satisfying whole. There's a lot of fascinating meditation here on gender socialization and the drive to be an aesthetically pleasurable, welcoming, entertaining people-pleaser. And how that can obscure -from both yourself and from others - what you really want. Overall, I enjoyed this a whole lot.

Random observations:

- In terms of Austen-adapting, there was one point where this crossed a (very minor) line for me. During the love confession, the author attempts to re-write THE MOST ICONIC LINE OF AUSTEN by having Rohan tell Kamila "If I loved you less, I'd be able to explain myself better" and just... urgh. No. I'm fine with repurposing the sentiment, but to read the exact same line with a handful of words changed felt a bit like walking along and suddenly falling into a hole. Also the less/more dichotomy is what makes the original line so good! Anyway. Smallest complaint. The writing is otherwise great.

- Kamila Knows Best is closed-door, but in a very sex-positive way: Kamila talks a lot about enjoying her very active sex life, in ways that are often charming and hilarious, but we just don't happen to see it because that's not the vibe of the book. There's a fun twist here on a closed-door trope that I know a lot of people dislike: we see the characters wake up the next morning and we're told that they had a LOT of really good sex, without being told anything about it. In this instance, though, we're specifically told that the sex was good because Kamila (as has been established earlier in the book) has no filter, and has spent most of her life detailing things like her favorite sex positions to her long-suffering, very proper and buttoned-up Just Good Friend Rohan, who has been patiently enduring and filing this information away, until such time as he is suddenly able to deploy everything she likes in bed. And like... yes. This is 100% their dynamic, and it worked so well for me, I *cackled.* Being closed-door doesn't mean that a book doesn't have anything to say about sex, or that readers can't come away with an understanding of how sex plays a role in the characters lives.

- I appreciate that there are various queer side characters, but for a book with an overall pretty complex approach to gender and socialization, there are some false notes here around gendered language and... un-nuanced descriptions of queer relationships. Particularly when Kamila gets angry with her father and Rohan, she dumps a lot of "eew men" and "aren't you lucky you're lesbians and don't have to deal with them" comments on her best friend and her wife. And, I mean, come on. Gender does not *vanish* outside of m/f relationships, nor does it only spring into existence under the gaze of cis men, which this book sometimes kinda thinks it does.

- This book describes SO much delicious food. Do not read without snacks.

If you’re a fan of slow burn friends to lovers romances then this one is for you!

Both Kamila and Rohan are fantastic characters with tons of chemistry. I thoroughly enjoyed their interactions even with they were knee deep in the miscommunication trope.

I also loved the other incredible friendships with the supporting cast (BIPOC & queer!) that we get to see through Kamila’s weekly Bollywood night, which includes a Bollywood flick and a different style of biryani each time.

While this story does have lighthearted moments, Heron does tackle some tough themes too such as parental death (recount), parental emotional abuse, and therapy (there’s more so please check content warnings!).

The is the second book by Heron that I’ve loved (check out Accidentally Engaged!), and I can’t wait for more.

A friends-to-lovers romance and modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma, Kamila Knows Best is an engrossing read filled with dynamic characters, wonderful messages, and some laugh-out-loud moments. Farah Heron has such a knack for creating rich stories and characters with a lot of depth while still making the story feel light and fun, which is definitely the case with this one!

Kamila is such an interesting and layered character who learns a lot about herself over the course of the story. Outgoing, sassy, fun, and funny, she is often underestimated because of her vivacious personality and how she dresses and looks. And she has this adorable dog named Darcy, who is Instagram famous. Darcy is so cute and so loved by Kamila, and I love this canine addition to the story! Kamila is also very devoted to her father and her friends, and she is a people pleaser. She’s always on the go, and she takes on too much, and she’s not always honest with her feelings. Heron did a fantastic job in creating a smart, independent woman with struggles and flaws and complexity,

Kamila has several noteworthy relationships in the story. Her relationship with her father very much defines her life. They work together and live together, and he depends on Kamila a lot. I think readers will relate to Kamila and her dad and the realistic changes and situations they face. Kamila’s friendships are another important aspect of her life. She is such a great friend, and people gravitate to her, which says a lot about the kind, giving, and fun person she is. I would love to go to one of Kamila’s weekly movie nights, which are often themed. They sound like so much fun! However, my favorite relationship in Kamila’s life is the swoon-worthy connection she has with Rohan.

Rowan, the buttoned-up, serious, life-long friend of Kamila, is the kind of person you want in your corner. He is always there for Kamila, and she knows she can depend on him no matter what. He stays at her house to help out, he is the only one who can talk sense into Kamila’s father, and he helps Kamila avoid several disasters. Rohan is so devoted to Kamila, though she doesn’t see it as anything other than friendship. She’s so focused on other people and their relationships that she doesn’t notice the one blossoming right under her nose. Kamila and Rohan both struggle with insecurities, uncertainty, and communicating their feelings, but their actions, their tender moments, and their fun, flirty, and sometimes deep banter shows just how much they care for each other. I loved watching their life-long friendship shift and grow into something more.

Kamila Knows Best is a wonderful and layered contemporary romance that is heart-warming, humorous, and fun. I loved the characters and the love story, as well as the themes of friendship, family, being true to who you are, and healing. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Forever Publishing, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

A retelling of Jane Austen's Emma with a South Asian twist and peppered with its own distinctive seasoning, Kamila Knows Best kept me entertained, laughing and swooning from start to finish.

It features a feisty heroine, Kamila, who is an accountant by profession but loves dressing up (stereotypes be damned), throws the most elaborate and fun Bollywood themed parties, is mama to a darling TikTok famous dog and plays her part of the devoted daughter to perfection. The love interest is her now best friend, former childhood crush, Rohan who is sweet as he is sexy, caring as he is hot, easily the perfect book boyfriend material!

Perfectly executed friends to lovers trope, with the slowest burn yet plenty of chemistry, ever increasing romantic tension and full of the most playful yet sexy banter that had me cracking up multiple times.

Also, tons and tons of food talk, but in the best way. So make sure you have an abundance of both sweet and savory snacks around to munch along while reading. Pro tip - Order plenty of your favorite biryani beforehand because you'll be craving it more and more as the story progresses.

Alongside the lighthearted and fun storyline, there are also some serious issues addressed, such as forgiveness, overcoming personal insecurities, letting go of childhood demons, struggles involving mental health and emotional abuse to name a few. However, in my opinion this is mostly an entertaining romantic comedy and the grave topics are only fleeting discussions, so don't go looking for a story that delves deep into these issues in this book.

But, if you're looking for an enjoyable story full of family, friendship and laughter, food and plenty of banter pick this one up and you won't be disappointed. Meanwhile, I'll be eagerly awaiting Farah Heron's next book!

I really, really loved the romance portion of this story. I'd shelve it under friends-to-lovers, but the connection between Kamilla and Rohan felt much deeper than that to me. A integral friend of her family for years, Kamilla depended a lot on Rohan with caring for her father. It was a very slow burn featuring a seamless banter that was so funny. I adored them!

But while I love a slow burn romance, the story itself was too slow for me, with a lot of parties hosted by Kamilla initially taking up the majority of the plot. I did really like Kamilla, though. Constantly praising herself and holding people to high standards, she's a somewhat unlikable character that I still found super endearing. A woman who loves fashion and unconventional business attire, she's often unfairly forced to prove her knowledge in the accounting world. I loved seeing her push back on wrong assumptions and take charge of her success.

There's definitely many aspects I loved in this story (included the delicious food. Yum!), but overall I was slightly underwhelmed.

An absolutely delightful romance, both funny and poignant in ways that capture at its essence, the heart of its source material - Jane Austen's Emma & Bollywood films.

The author's work continues to grow, shine, and sparkle - with witty prose, delicious food descriptions, and slow-burn yet fiery longing that while fade to black, never once leaves you feeling like you need more.

Toronto is also its own character, and you'll want to meet up with Kamila to help her take a photo of her cute pup, and join in on the Bollywood movie nights she and Rahul are such a fan of.

CW: emotional abuse of a child, in the past; car accident and parental death, in the past; medical emergencies and scares (secondary character, survives), gender essentialist language. the cute dog is never in danger.

Thank you to the publisher for the advanced copy!

I always forget how anxious Emma-related media makes me, because I genuinely do love the origin story. But it does! And I really liked this so much, but I could have dealt with Kamila being mad at the men in her life a TEENSY bit longer, because way to suck! But really, this was very very good and I am glad that I picked it up!

I went to a local thrift shop and found this book. The cover and title called to me. Not only is it beautiful, but I felt this draw that I just needed to pick it up. And it was delightfully one of my favourite reads of the year!

Kamilla Hussain is a career woman who loves Bollywood and throws amazing parties. But, her Father's health isn't doing amazing and she works alongside him at his business. Walk in her best friend Rohan who is there helping her, being his own business man, and maybe there's some harmless flirting.

This book has reminded me I need to read Emma by Jane Austen soon because this is a retelling of it! Intertexts are at it again! Always one of my favourite genres (I claim it's a genre so it is). Farah Heron's writing also really vibes well with me and I was GLUED to this book. It sometimes felt a pinch too long, but that's my own opinion. Some scenes could have been shortened and gotten the same amount of impact, but it didn't ruin the book. That's my only real judgement. Because I ADORED this book. It was fun, felt pretty honest about adult life, and made me smile. AND PUPPIES! Who doesn't love puppies?

Five out of five stars.

Kamila Hussein has it all. A successful career as a CPA, a loving father, and a nurturing network of good friends. Kamila has everything. Well, not everything since she is missing an important component in her life — love. Sure, she had Ernesto in the past, but to Kamila, it was casual — a friend with benefits. So how can Kamila find love? She is just so busy that who has time to find love? Kamila had her career to think of. She was busy building her client base and on top of that, she was also involved with event planning, volunteering at the puppy shelter, and not to mention hosting weekly Bollywood parties.

Rohan Nasser has been friends with Kamila since childhood. They grew up in the same neighborhood and became very close friends. Rohan was there for Kamila through her growing pains, love interests, and now her career. As a sucessful tax attorney, Rohan knew what it took to be on the up and up and he had Kamila’s back every step of the way. But there was something else. Rohan couldn’t put his finger on it, but he knew that there was much more between him and Kamila. After all, Kamila never did blink an eye at his provocative playful banter. But that’s nothing, right? Best friends always tease each other…

Kamila Knows Best by Farah Heron is my very first novel that I read by this author. Needless to say, I am impressed. Heron manages to capture the finer details of the characters — from their features, image, and personalities. There are a number of characters but not too many to overwhelm. And each character comes to the table with their unique quirks. And for you pet lovers out there, cute puppies abound.

The storyline follows the friends to lovers trope in a PG sort of way. There are smatterings of sexual innuendos but that just adds to the comedic value of the novel.

Overall, Kamila Knows Best is certainly a novel for fans of the contemporary romance genre who also enjoys the friends to lovers trope. It is nothing short of wonderful and definitely a novel worthy of five glowing stars from me.

I received a digital ARC from Forever through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

Ahhhh! How have I been sleeping on this author! I adored this book so much! She may have even convinced me to give Emma another try someday 😂 This was fun and lively and there were recipes and dancing dogs and love and strong women and so many good things I don’t even know where to start! And then add in that it’s based in my hometown and you get MAGIC!
Kamila and Rohan (who btw is swoon worthy!) have been friends since they were literally children. Their parents were best friends. Now they’re grown and both successful in their own rights-Rohan as a tax attorney and Kamila as a CPA, an event planner, volunteering. The only thing not working for her is her personal life. Rohan and Kamila are still friends and Rohan helps with her father, and has taken over the business that his father and hers created many years ago. So of course, this is a classic friends to lovers trope, but in the most fun way. It wasn’t a straight line and there were times when I was shouting “NO” because I was afraid it wasn’t going to happen, but the thing I loved most was their banter! It was so fab and real.
Read this if you need something fun and refreshing and just want to feel good.

What I LOVED: This was my first book from Farah Heron and definitely not my last! I fell in love with her engaging writing and lovable characters!

Kamila wast he best! Between her love for fashion, dogs, her friends, family, and her talent for throwing the best Bollywood night parties, it was easy to love her. On top of all that, she’s also a kickass accountant and she’s passionate over what she does in helping women and small businesses. I also related to her being from an asian household which entails judgemental family members and being underminded. My heart broke for the way she was still healing from the trauma her mother gave her and admired her taking care of her dad amongst other things in her life.

Then comes in, Rohan, the sexy, businessman, best friend whom Kamila has grown up with. I enjoyed every moment with him especially when he would show up to just be there for Kamila every moment between helping out her father, throwing parties and being supportive in the dog events

Their romance made me remember exactly why I love a good ol’ friends to lovers trope and everything that comes with it from the secret pining, natural chemistry and friendly banter, the constant attempt to not cross the lines of friendship and the whole “everyone can see they’re in love but them”, I was swooning so much and there were moments even when I cried from the light angst.

What I LIKED: My dog loving heart enjoyed this so much! Alongside the scenes spent with dogs and the animal shelter, every moment with Darcy was my favorite! From the doggy photoshoots, outfits, Tiktok vids and even the dance performance, she was the cutest dog ever! (and she’s on the cover of the book even!)

Though the family relationship here wasn’t as toxic and was actually wholesome, I’m a sucker for a great, supportive friend group and that’s what Kamila had. I love Asha especially!Maricel was nice and her side romances was adorable. The side plot regarding her rivals to friends relationship with Jana was the most interesting, I enjoyed seeing them work out their differences and eventually be there for each other.

I liked the recipes in the end as well, I’m tempted to throw a Kamila-approved and inspired party too! The party scenes she had made me wish I was invited to them!

What I DIDN’T ENJOY: My heart broke from the toxicity of Kamila’s mother which is a thing that happens in conservative Asian households. Along with the judgements and constant criticizing, I’m sad she had to got through that.

THIS BOOK IS PERFECT IF YOU LOVE:
• friends to lovers, forced proximity
• cute doggy companions
• great friend group
• south asian rep

Heartwarming, witty, and romantic!

Kamila Knows Best is a charming, playful tale that transports you to Toronto, Canada and into the lives of the responsible, handsome Rohan Nasser and the spirited, intelligent Kamila Hussain as they discover that even though they’ve known each other forever and are the best of friends perhaps there’s a little something more underneath all that innocent flirting and casual embraces than they’ve ever cared to admit.

The writing is humorous and light. The characters are kind, supportive, and genuine. And the plot is an entertaining mix of friendship, family, snappy banter, shameless flirting, red-hot chemistry, tender moments, responsibilities, community, and culture.

Overall, Kamila Knows Best is a sexy, sweet, uplifting tale by Heron with a whole cast of characters I couldn’t help but fall in love with, an inclusive, diverse storyline that kept me engaged from start to finish, and a happy-ever-after ending that made me swoon.

Somehow I keep reading Jane Austen retellings without ever reading the original, but hey I'm not complaining. Kamila Know Best is a loose retelling of Emma, and I adored it. The characters were really the star of the show here- they were all so fleshed out, that I couldn't help but fall for them.

The book follows Kamila, a colorful, vibrant, dog loving, tik tok using, CPA with a passion for helping women owned businesses AND loves her family and friends SO dearly. She throws weekly bollywood parties and is a huge people pleaser (something she definitely works on during the book). It honestly hurt to see how cruel and shaming her mom was to her during her childhood, but it was an authentic experience in a lot of Asian households. I liked how this book touches on trauma and family judgement. It was so good that she had her dad in her corner the entire time, even if it wasn't always enough.

Now this book is childhood friends to lovers which was so refreshing to me and I loved Rohan. He was so supportive of Kamila constantly and kept showing up to help out with her parties, her father and get her connections at work. I felt like he really SAW her as a person, and he was head over heels in love. We love a simp. I love the whole "everyone can see they're in love but HER" trope and this book does not disappoint with that OR with the levels of swooning.

I also loved Kamila's relationship with all her friends. She would really go to the ends of the earth for them and it was so nice to see all the support she both gave and received. It's the kind of friends I hope to have when I'm older. Overall, great book and lovely friends to lovers read!.
