I really enjoyed reading this straight forward and interesting book on meditation. I learned to meditate many years ago but fell out of the habit whilst working in a very stressful and exhausting job. Now, I am enjoying meditating every day again and I have formed an exit plan from a demanding and stressful career. As I re-train, I hope to do so from a calmer and more balanced place. Meditation really does work and it is helping me to recover from years of stress and being repeatedly burned out. It is also helping me to come to terms with the fact that I have put everything I have, at the expense of my health and wellbeing, into a career that I am now leaving because the demands are unsustainable.
This is the first book I was able to fully “speed read”.
As a consistent practitioner exploring meditation for about six months, there was nothing groundbreaking for me.
The notes I took were mainly from the first half of the book which make parallels between the practice and laws of physics such as thermodynamics and entropy.
It’s all about transformation of energy.
From Naval Ravikant:
Happiness = peace in movement. Peace = happiness at rest.
One can easily correlate that to kinetic and potential energy.
The most important wasn’t what I read but where I did it. Over a meditation weekend at Vajrasana retreat, a very energetic environment.
Excellent and very well written book about benefits of meditation. The author talks about main benefits and highlights just how important and life changing the practice of meditation can be.
‘When you let go of fear of change and evolution, you have a greater capacity to enthusiastically step into the unknown. Shake up the status quo and innovation happens.’
‘We don’t need more people telling us how to behave. We need more people living their lives as an example of something good and inspiring. Just as negativity spreads, so does positivity.’
I recently learnt Vedic Meditation with Michael Miller at the London Meditation Centre which he runs with Jillian, and reading this book since has been both a validation of what I have learnt and am experiencing as well as a joyful exploration of the 'more' that supports the principles. The experience of reading this in its hard back from has been lovely and is a great introduction to meditation and the where and how of the work and benefit Vedic Meditation offers. Highly recommended - 4 stars.
Loved reading this, as it was a great addition to the course I followed from the London Meditation Centre. Besides that, it has been mind blowing to learn more about the resources behind meditating. For anyone interested, even a tiny bit, this is a very easy read with simple explanations. In any case I think this should be part of the curriculum in schools and the every day life.
