More than just a dimpled smile and chiseled jaw, Theo Amato’s quick-thinking and bold confidence made him successful. Heavy responsibilities left time for close friends and family, but nothing more. It wasn’t until he looked into a pair of big green eyes that his focus changed.
Full lips, a gorgeous face, and an endearing personality had him hooked from the start.
There was nothing Dahlia Kincaid enjoyed more than a good book, a funny movie, and a full night’s sleep. Long workdays meant she rarely had time for any of them, but the sacrifice was worth it to live in the city. It wasn’t until she met a man with model good looks and sexy veined hands that her life changed in ways she'd never even known to dream of.
Wickedly sweet, Theo gently and strategically pulled Dahlia from her rut, handing her the world in the process.
But shadows play tricks on the eyes, and life wasn’t always what it seemed.
With them…
It was better.

Growing up, Layla Frost used to hide under her blanket with a flashlight to read the Sweet Valley High books she pilfered from her older sister. It wasn’t long before she was reading hidden Harlequins during class at school. This snowballed into pulling all-nighters after the promise of “just one more chapter”.
Her love of reading, especially the romance genre, took root early and has grown immeasurably until it was time to write her own stories.
When she's not writing, Layla Frost is an insomniac with a deep love of iced coffee, tchotchkes, plants, and her hens. She's also the world's okayest mom, but her kids think she's cool... ish.
'With Us' was my first read by this author and while I didn’t love it, I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to read more from her. Layla Frost delivers an intriguing, sexy, yet very sweet story filled with just a little bit of everything. If you love your heroes to be tall, dark and handsome and a little dangerous, then you don’t want to miss this one, because trust me, Theo Amato was exactly that and more.
Dahlia had a hard life growing up. Moving from a fostering home to another, without a real family or any guidance, wasn’t easy for her. She doesn’t have friends, working two jobs to make ends meet. One day at the coffee chop she works at, she meets Theo, a sexy, Italian man who for some reason seems interested with her. Theo is like no other man Dahlia met before, so she can’t believe a man like him, mature and sophisticated wants something meaningful with her.
Theo wants Dahlia. He wants to get to know her and to have her in his bed and he’s willing to do anything to accomplish that. But Dahlia as much as she’s intrigued by Theo, doesn’t exactly trust him. She accepts to go on a date with him, eventually starting a relationship with this sexy, intimidating man who apparently wants to offer her everything. Dahlia meets Theo’s family, Theo being very open with her about everything…well, almost everything since he keeps some secrets from her, secrets that can destroy everything he came to love.
This is all you have to know about Theo and Dahlia’s story, so try not to read too many spoiler-ish reviews. 'With Us'was well written and I actually enjoyed the author’s storytelling a lot. Filled with action, intrigue and suspense the story will keep you at the edge of your seat for a good part of the story, which I have to say had flowed nicely.
The two main characters were endearing and well portrayed. Theo was a wonderful hero that I must admit charmed me from the very beginning. He was sexy and mysterious and overall and intriguing character. I loved the way he was with Dahlia from the very beginning. Sweet, caring, patient and considerate from the moment he met our heroine, Theo is determined to give her everything she missed in her life – support, freedom, hope, family and last, but not least, love. And I have to say I liked how he do it. The way he was with Dahlia at times was really heartwarming, his tenderness made me fall for him very fast. Dahlia was a likeable heroine I enjoyed reading about, but her character’s development was not as good as Theo’s IMO. In some way, I expected a little more from her character.
I loved these two together. They were great together, a little sugary sweet at times, but I enjoyed reading about them as a couple. What I would have changed was how their relationship progressed. Personally, I think their relationship would have been more plausible with some back and forth, but this is just my opinion. The story is filled with drama and angst, but nothing overwhelming, which I liked and plenty of sexy times that were quite well written.
The story was okay for the most part, but I have to say it dragged a little. Also, the unnecessarily details about…everyone and everything, got on my nerves more than I want to admit. I was so annoyed I was tempted to skim…I didn’t, but I was very close.
What a beautiful love story. Theo sees this beautiful woman working in a coffee shop and he is compelled to go in. He comes by day after day until he asks her out on a date. Dahlia is enamored of this obviously successful and gorgeous man paying attention to her. He wines her and dines her and their relationship grows.
Theo and Dahlia hit a significant snag in their relationship that threatens to destroy what they have built. Everything is not as it appears and Dahlia must decide whether she wants to continue with this man who loves her obsessively.
I loved this couple. The old trope of good vs. evil pervades and you are drawn into this couple’s journey to HEA.
Beautifully written and fast paced. I read in one sitting. Steamy love scenes and a hero that loves passionately. I love the scenes with his family.
This is one to add to your TBR list if you are looking for a bad boy, mafia book.
I enjoyed revisiting With Us and found myself remember the high this book left me on. I'm not going to change my star rating, but admit that it didn't quite leave me as awestruck. The female narrator does a great job but the male narrator was not one of my favourites. I guess I just wanted a more swoon-worthy Theo whispering in my ear. 😉
Still worth a listen if you enjoyed reading this story and wouldn't mind re-reading/listening.
**********
One of the best books I've read this year ;-)
Bloody Hell!! With Us was awesome.
She's a good girl who has never been bad.
He's good...ish and kind of bad...ish.
She has never had a family and wants one.
He has a big family and wants to give her one.
It's like a fairytale when Prince Charming (in a suit) sweeps the fair maiden (in her ballet flats) off her feet.
But not everything is as it seems.
Will she trust the feelings that have grown between them?
Can he trust that she will still be with him when the truth comes out?
Will their love survive the secrets?
Can she learn to trust her heart?
The journey for Dahlia and Theo is not an easy one but it is an amazing one.
I really did enjoy With Us. It made me smile, blush, grimace and gasp. There are twists and turns, highs and lows and sideswipes that keep you on your toes. The heat factor was scorching. I will definitely be reading more of this series in the future.
Stacey is Sassy, received an advanced copy of this story. The copy provided is not the final copy and may be subject to edits and changes.
This is Theo Amato and Dahlia Kincaid's story. Dahlia is working two jobs just to make ends meet. After growing up in foster care she is used to being alone and looking out for herself. Until one day when a gorgeous stranger comes into her café and sparks fly.
Theo Amato is gorgeous commanding and rich, and when he sets his eyes on the lovely Dahlia his obsession knows no bounds. But Theo is keeping secrets that when exposed could very well send Dahlia running from him forever.
I enjoyed this one for the most part. The writing was great and the plot kept me interested (mostly). Theo was a smoking hot and unwavering hero and Dahlia was a likable heroine. There was also a good array of interesting side characters that added a nice dimension to the overall storyline. I'm hoping we will get some more books featuring them. Some twists and turns and some good action (especially in the last 25% of the book) added to its overall appeal.
That said, there were a couple of things that brought my rating down a star. The first was Dahlia's dreams. They really threw off the pacing of the story in my opinion. Not to mention the transition into them was confusing. Sometimes it would take me several pages before I realized this was yet another of her (IMO) pointless dreams. I understand the author was trying to show that Dahlia was working things out through her dreams, but for me, all they did was take me out of the rhythm of the story and honestly I started to skim over them.
I also thought this dragged a bit especially during the middle of the book. Especially with repetitive dialogue from several characters all saying the same thing (just in different ways) to Dahlia. I didn't really need for five different characters to say "We can't say anything. Theo will tell you" over and over again. Lastly, I HATED the direction the author choose to go with the baddie. HATED IT...It's going to take me awhile to get over that one.
Those issues aside, I really did enjoy this one and look forward to more books being released in this series. Two thumbs up from yours truly.
That wonderful feeling of euphoria when you’ve finally found a book to pull you out of your book funk and With Us was it. From the moment Theo Amato walked into the coffee shop and spotted Dahlia, I was just as enamoured as she was.
"She’s mine. And I’m every bit hers."
Dahlia was very much orphan Annie. Working two jobs, leading a solitary existence, she was happy with the life she had carved out for herself. So yes, she was instantly charmed by the handsome stranger regularly returning for bad coffee. Who wouldn’t be?
This story felt as if it was told in two parts. The beginning about two people from very different worlds dating and falling in love. The happiness Theo and Dahlia felt in each other’s company was profound. A man utterly besotted with this girl who never asked for much or expected anything apart from kindness and companionship. It was perfect until reality imposed.
I was used to being alone. It’d been that way my whole life, for as long as I could remember. Even when I was surrounded by people, I was still alone.
But Theo had given me company. Love and affection. A family. And now it was tainted with secrets and lies. I had to get out.
It was clear from the start, that Theo had powerful ties and it was no surprise that it was mafia related. And when it all imploded, did omission of truths make it acceptable? Dahlia would need to reconcile the man she loves with the man everyone else knew him as.
"I’d planned to tell you once I had you even half as addicted to me as I am to you. Like my next breath doesn’t matter if I don’t have you. Like nothing fucking matters without you."
With Us was addictive. I adored both Dahlia and Theo and his extended family. Geez did I happily relate to the loud obnoxious Italian get togethers. I also wasn’t bothered about the secrecy. Mafia is a delicate business. I imagine it takes huge consideration choosing to be part of it. I appreciated the second part of the story focusing on the fallout of this revelation. This story was immensely romantic, low on the mafia drama and just wonderful to read…if not a little drawn out.
Holy smokes!!! With Us blew my freakin’ mind and Theo and Dahlia stole my heart!!! What an way to open up the new year with extraordinary story!!! Adored every single word of it, and Theo… Swoon… He is PERFECT! A true Must Read!
Theo and Dahlia meet in the most ordinary of ways, with him taking a glimpse at her working on a coffe shop, but their story is anything but.
Dahlia has been alone in life for so long, and struggling to live day by day, working herself to the bone, that when a handsome – ok, smoking HOT, LOL ;) – stranger starts treating her like she truly deserves, showing her a whole new world of love and care, even though it’s not easy for her to trust, she slowly let’s herself believe in him and he doesn’t disappoint…
The way his body surrounded me, blocking out the world and making me feel safe, was like nothing I’d ever imagined. And that was my life with him. Protected. Worshipped. Happy. Loved.
Theo is a hard man, and with his role in his world, there was no other way, but even in his first contact with Dahlia he has been different. She captivated and enraptured him at very first sight, and slowly and thoughtfully he conquered her, as she conquered him. Only she saw this sweet and tender side of him. His love shone through in every act, every touch, every word.
It was the closest I’d felt to anyone. Ever. There was a connection beyond our bodies. The way he touched me, the way he moved inside me… It was more.
Their connection was undeniable, and every one in contact with them had no doubt of their love, and were just as delighted by it. His family was just as amazing as Theo himself and took Dahlia in and loved her like one of their own, given her something that she never had before, and that meant the world to her. Never again would she be lonely. She would be forever theirs. And to Theo, she would be forever his, he would make sure of it.
“Because, about that, he’s right. Everyone knows I love you. That it’s never, ever been like this.” Tucking my hair behind my ear, his fingers skimmed the exposed skin of my neck until they were curled around the back of it. “That I’m addicted. Obsessed.” Lowering his face into mine, he blocked out everything else. His eyes were so dark, his voice a low promise. “There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to keep you, Dahlia.”
I couldn’t have loved his possessive and obsessive streaks more. He was the perfect example of a loving, caring and sensible – given how slowly he enchanted and seduced her, respecting her fears and deep seated doubts – alpha, but just as obsessed, possessive and protective as we love – ok, ok, at least I – our romance heroes.
“Tied to me. I wanted you wrapped up and in so deep, you wouldn’t leave once you knew. I’d planned to tell you once I had you even half as addicted to me as I am to you. Like my next breath doesn’t matter if I don’t have you. Like nothing fucking matters without you.”
Without revealing too much, of course that when Theo’s secret and hidden world comes to light things aren’t as simple as expected, and Dahlia’s old doubts and fears come crashing, and will put their love to the test.
“Never,” he swore, the tone of his voice almost painful to hear. “I should. I shouldn’t have gotten involved with you at all, dragging you into my world. But I did, and I’m never letting you go. I’d give up everything else before I let that happen, Dahlia.”
“If things were black and white, light or dark, it’d be easy. But Theo’s gray. He’s a shadow.”
This world, or better yet, the book’s whole universe is beautifully and realistically written. There were no exaggerations or OTT stereotyping, and I adored that because it really took me into their scenes and world along with the characters. I was living the events with them, but also feeling what they were feeling…
When his breathing evened out in sleep, he still held me tight. Like I was his world, and he was afraid he’d lose me.
Theo and Dahlia were, like I’ve said before, PERFECT in my opinion, and their love story gave me all the feels, so I couldn’t have asked for more. Their love and their love story had, and was EVERYTHING! Dahlia duality of inner strength and hinted fragility was the perfect contrabalance for Theo’s protective and caring – even if hidden – nature. They were perfect for one another.
But I wasn’t going anywhere. I may have been dancing with the devil, but I’d accepted that. Because the devil needed love, too. And I’d be damned if anyone else was going to give it to him.
She was my addiction. My obsession. My entire fucking universe. Each time she came made me crave it again.
And just like their love itself, Layla Frost gave us everything in this story! A beautiful love story, enticing suspense, perfect main characters and amazing secondary characters, and extraordinarily developed storyline.Oh, and let’s not forget, some scorchingly HOT scenes!!! With Us is without a doubt a must read that I recommend to all the Romance lovers. Layla Frost was already part of my favorite, auto-read authors, and this book more than cemented that, it knocked it out of the park, and with the introduction of so many captivating characters I can’t wait for her next book! Seriously, I can’t wait! I want it now!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
I’d been addicted and obsessed since the first time I’d seen her. It didn’t matter how many minutes I spent with her, or how many times I fucked her, I’d always be that way. Addicted and obsessed.

This story had it all for me - steam, suspense and sweet love. It's also very tricky to review because I don't want to give away any of the twist and turns. I will say I am glad I read this as my first book of 2017. Hopefully it sets the pace for the rest of the year!
The story was sectioned into two parts.
The first part was Theo and Dahlia meeting and falling for each other. Theo was so devoted to Dahlia, there was no one else for him. They each had many layers that, as their relationship progressed, they revealed their true selves.
The second part was after some of Theo's secrets were revealed. This took them on a journey of fighting for their love. I will give you a heads up, there are some violent parts. Nothing that would have kept ME from reading it though.
HERO~Theo Amato - one of my all-time favorite heroes to date. He was sweet, generous, sexy and totally gone for Dahlia. He was a successful businessman and loyal to his family.
HEROINE~Dahlia Kincaid was a really great heroine (I don't say that often). She was younger than Theo but life experiences made her mature fast. She was witty and a prefect ying to Theo's yang. Alone in life, she was hesitant to trust Theo. Theo brought her into his family and she felt like she belonged for the first time. Her experiences left her often feeling vulnerable and she suffered from nightmares (the dreams are played out in the story which FOR ME, was a strange addition - I could have done without that)
SEXUAL HISTORY~
OW/OM DRAMA~ One of my favorite things about this story is the fact they're is zero drama from OW/OM. It was refreshing to read a good story without a crazy ex, a dead spouse etc. I loved that we didn't need to hear about how many women Theo had been with. It can be done people, and here is a great example!
SECONDARY CHARACTERS~ a great cast of secondary characters. Theo's family was great. I believe Luc will get his story as well! CAN NOT WAIT!
ENDING~ HEA with an epilogue that was a few months, then 5 years out. I loved it. You CAN have a series and provide a great epilogue at the same time. Layla Frost proved that.
James, Knox, Knight, Remy, Luke, Braden, Cam... Step aside boys 'cause there's a new BBF in town, and his name is Theo Amato.
I'm not going to talk about the book because once started, I would go on and on and on and then have to spoiler my whole review, and I don't want to do that. It's enough to say, this book was brilliant, I didn't want to put it down, and it's a must read.
But let's go back to Theo because him, I could talk about for days. He was so darn perfect. There were times he would say something, and I would just sit back and sigh. Yes, sigh. He was that fricken amazing.
So wonderful, in fact, he joined my elite group of Book Boyfriends. I'm not going to spoiler Theo, either. He's someone you need to meet and savor all on your own.
Sidenote: Nic, I call dibs on Theo. I know that's not fair because I got a sneaky-peaky, BUUUUT all's fair in love and war, baby!
Trying to come up with a way to review a book without using spoilers is freakin HARD people but since this book is completely safe and I do believe it would be a better read without spoilers I won’t do it.. However, I know once I get going I will just prattle on continuously because that is how much I loved the book, the characters and the plot.
So I will start with the characters first. I am always all about characterization in my books. I love it, I can’t get enough of it and if the characters are ones I enjoy, interact well with each other and in this case have their own brand (and my brand) of humor it works. You will always get great dialogue scenes and funny jokes in a Layla Frost book.
The plotline was well thought out and dropped me on my head. Why? Because I was at 50% and I thought the book was about the finish up. (Yeah I didn’t check the length or the TOC. I just started reading). It was going to be a solid 4 stars it was a cute book, exactly what I look for in most of my novels with the extra humor and great dialogue/characters I expect from this individual author but I just wasn’t wowed.
Well jokes on my ass because shit got real and I got wowed. The plot went from a typical contemporary romance to something different. I didn’t see it coming (and not in a bad way) that in itself made me enjoy it even more. The second part of the book started and from then on you couldn’t pull me from the book without some cussing and a snarl.
If you like a great plot line, interesting dialogue and some nerdy humor bordering on geeky you will love this book.
1/13 Update- Today is the day! With Us is LIVE and available on Kindle Unlimited!
1/12 Update- One day left! I'm not freaking out. What makes you think I'm freaking out. Maybe you're the one who is freaking out. (Okay, I'm freaking out)
1/10 Update- Three days left... Pass the vodka.
1/5 Update- Some #TheoThursday goodness. A little over a week left!
I loved it. Another fantastic book by Layla Frost. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. With Us is a delicious love story with amazing bunch of characters. Theo is the perfect hero. There is nothing he wouldn't do for Dahlia. I thought Dahlia was awesome too. She is sweet and funny. I seriously loved everything about it. Highly recommend.
HEA Cheating/OW/OM Any push/pull Any couple separation Angst Level: Low Heat Level: High
Well, I finally got around to reading this. The first half would be 5+++ stars. I absolutely LOVE Theo. I mean, hot, panty-melting goodness right there. He was freaking amazing and a perfect hero (hence he made my perfect-hero shelf). I liked Dahlia a lot too. She was sweet and kind. She'd been dealt a hard time in life but she picked herself up and was doing the best she could. And who doesn't want a Prince to step in and give you everything you could ever want including a family?
I loved all the side-characters and Theo's family. I really, really hope Luc is next....I want to know what Theo found in his apartment....
However, the second half kind of fell flat for me. I absolutely hated that for a lot of the time they were apart. I also felt like some stuff could have been cut out and the book shortened. It kind of drug in places for me. And the baddie situation about tore me to pieces. I was hoping it wasn't who had my suspicions about but, sadly it was. I did love the epilogue.
All in all I really enjoyed it. I love Ms Frost's writing and I am definitely looking forward to reading more in this series.
The first one was mostly consumed with the development of Theo and Dahlia’s (sexual) relationship while nothing else was evolving. And it became so boring that I was having second thoughts as to keep reading. It was too lengthy! Theo’s character was better developed compared to Dahlia’s, yet both were interesting and likeable in this part.
The second part grew slightly more interesting, since the revelations started unfolding and great reactions were presented. However, I wasn’t fond of Dahlia’s attitude. While in the first part she had two jobs for surviving, in the second she was staying at Theo’s house with all comforts and was unemployed because she didn’t have any idea of what to do!!! What happened to her strength, her resolve or her backbone? Her behaviour was fatuous and juvenile.
Throughout the story Dahlia had many nightmares - without rhyme or reason, which only created an uninteresting and frivolous element to the plot, leaving me indifferent and unimpressed.
Overall, the story left me unmoved and I didn’t enjoy it as I thought or expected I would... 😔😔
Genre: - Cont. Romance Series: - Stand Alone Love triangle? - Cheating? - HEA? - Would I read more by this author/or in this series? - Yes Rating - 4 stars
★Review★
Having previously read by this author and really enjoying it, I was looking forward to starting this one.
And I have to say, it was so different from what I was expecting! The author has really found her voice for me.
The hero was mysterious and handsome yet so in love with the heroine. And the revelation about just who he was, thankfully did not come out of left field as there had been enough hints throughout the story that it fit, as opposed to feeling very out of place.
I liked Dahlia as a heroine, she was hard working and determined to make a better life for herself, and I like that she truly struggled with just who Theo was once she found out.
Why not quite 5 stars, it felt like for me, it just went on a touch to long. And there were a couple of times I was thinking "well that is just stupid, no way would that happen" only for it to become clear after a couple of pages that it was a dream Dahlia was having. It just was a bit jarring the times it happened, as there was no sign that it was a "dream" and not just the plot.
All in though, an enjoyable 4 stars, full of romance and tension, secrets, love and drama. I would re read it again happily.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This one seemed a bit more serious than this authors usual style but I still loved it. Theo was a very protective Hero. He took very good care of Dahlia, who has not had a great past.
It was an insta-love but still a slow burn. Theo was hooked at first site but took his time getting to know her. He seemed to read her very well and adjusted himself to what she could handle.
I liked the mystery to the story even though you can probably guess some of what's going on. I really like the fact that this author doesn't over do things. You don't have too much pushing away, or over the top behavior and the plot twists are handled quickly and not drawn out.
It's low angst but what angst there is keeps the story thriving. I get easily annoyed with heroines in books but I've loved every single one this author has written.
It's a HFN ending that leaves enough curiosity to want the next book soon.
Overall Opinion The Good: I liked the way this felt like a well thought out book in sequencing. There was actual on page development of their relationship! I also liked the side characters and family aspect.
The Not-So-Good: The borderline instalove. The H claims to have not been with a woman for ~5 years but becomes almost instantly obsessed with this random girl. I think I would’ve liked a little more in his head to explain his attraction and why he felt so drawn to her.
The Bad: The pacing. It just felt a little inconsistent. There were times that felt way too slow and I skimmed and then there were time jumps that felt too fast. I think this was in the longer side of common books today (404 pages in my kindle app) and a lot of the slow parts were not all that necessary in the long run, so I think having an editor or just editing those scenes down would’ve benefited the overall flow.
Overall: This was a cute read that came recommended by one of my GR friends. I appreciated the fact that this was developed from their initial meeting all the way through to their HEA. I think it felt very complete, which isn't all that common these days! While I didn’t love it, I might still look and see if there are any other books from this series to try out.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Dahlia and Theo’s story. Theo comes in one morning and gets hooked on the nervous, sweet barista. He starts a strong pursuit and they start dating, but things aren’t quite how they initially seemed about Theo. There are some big secrets revealed, some suspenseful moments, and some sexy times…and they get a HEA ending.
Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Dahlia and Theo’s POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Alright. There were parts that I did skim (especially the dream sequences) that felt like they could’ve easily been edited down. They didn’t contribute to the story all that much and it made it feel too slow for me.
Instalove: I’d have to say no because there was on page development of feelings, but I did struggle with this a little (see above “not so good” section)
H (Hero) rating: 3 stars. Theo. While I liked how he was with the h, I don’t feel like we really got deep into his character.
h (heroine) rating: 3.5 stars. Dahlia. I liked how sweet she was but there were times where I think it would’ve been better for her to be not quite so naïve (but that might be due to her age difference).
Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed
Push/Pull: Yes
Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.
Descriptive sex: Yes
OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: No
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Cheating: No
Separation: Yes, but only physically
Possible Triggers: Yes
Closure: This ends with a cute jump ahead epilogue with both of their POVs at different times. I would call this a HEA ending
Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers
This is an excellent mafia romance with a terrific j/p H. There's no cheating, no ow/om drama, no abuse, and no triggers. This H is devoted to the h. He takes one look at her and he falls for her but it's not an instant love/hop in bed story. The H knows she's different and will be worth the wait. He woos her and takes his time. He waits several dates just to kiss her and waits longer still to have sex with her. He wants her to fall for him first. When they do finally have sex, it's hot and very steamy!
I love how he treated her. He's sooo good to her! He treats her like she's fragile and precious to him. She has zero clue he's in the mafia at first and for at least half the book. She's sweet, sincere and not a shrew at all. She's also a virgin. I love how they talked to each other and their love felt real.
The only thing I did not like were the dreams the h had. While I understand what the author was trying to convey by including them, they were unnecessary. The way they were written, it was unclear that it was a dream until the h woke up. The first time I read one of the h's dreams, I was confused. I stopped reading, went back and reread the passage, scratched my head, moved on and THEN it was revealed it was a dream. I wish they hadn't been included in the story.
Other than the dreams, it was a 5 star story and I loved it.
Star Ratings: Heroine (Dahlia): 23yrs old Hero (Theo): 35yrs old Plot: 5/5 Grovel: good Cheating: none HEA: yes with babies! Triggers: none
Average score: 5/5
Best Line: “I’m attached”
Worst Line: “My life pretty much began and ended with me.”
Personal Review: A great romance between a protective and dedicated businessman and a hard working, independent woman.
Random Ramblings •Aww, such a sweet opening •This girl has jokes! •Their banter made me feel so…
•I admire people who work hard – I know what it’s like being dirt-poor and working 3 jobs •I loved how real she was •Mar and Kat were too cute •His devotion to her was epic
I loved every second of this book. And one of the main reasons is hot and sexy as hell Theo Amato. I also really loved Dahlia too. They were perfect for each other. I loved that all of the drama came from life and only made their relationship stronger. The secondary characters were all amazing. The twist totally threw me for a loop. I can't wait for Luc's book. I was also really looking forward to another characters book but that won't be happening.
Theo Amato was intrigued the minute he saw the coffee shop girl, wanting to know more he beings frequenting the coffee shop. Dahlia Kincaid knows one thing, she is out of Theo's league, when he asks her for a date she accepts but isn't sure there will be a second one. Theo is enchanted, he knows she is the one and is also incredibly skittish about trusting him.
Theo has secrets and the more Dahlia becomes an integral part of his life, the more he knows he has to tell her who he is. They are in bliss, they are in love, and it is about to be destroyed when a threat Theo didn't see comes makes a move. Will he lose the one person who is his everything?
Remarkable, I laughed, cried repeatedly, definitely pulled my heartstrings and smiled throughout. I picked this book up and finished in one sitting, of course it was around three am but it was worth trading sleep for. Theo oozes power, masculinity, and you have no doubt his feelings for Dahlia. Dahlia has a haunted backstory and you get why holds Theo at a distance. If seeing where this couple ended up was not enough to pick up the book, the supporting characters are fascinating. I want more, I want to sit and reread this so I can savor it. High praise.
This was sooo boring. I kept waiting for somthing to happen, for the book to become interesting. And I waited and waited and waited. At one point, something did change. Unfortunately, it was too short and useless and meh; if I knew, I'd probably have DNFed this book.
The characters were boring, the plot was boring, and their story... well... it was boring.
Ah well, it could have been worse I guess, the MCs weren't total idiots, so that's ok. Dunno if I'd recommend this one to others though.
I have no problem with love at first sight in a book if the characters and their feelings are so compelling that I can relate to them.
I have no problem with an alpha-type hero, provided he is not manipulative or downright abusive AND that the heroin has somewhat of a backbone.
I have no problem with a hero involved in illegal activities provided the author is not trying to force silly justifications down my throat.
I have no problem with a plot having some loose ends if the whole thing is treated lightly and is full of fun and wit, making clear that we should focus on the romance part and definitely not on the plot.
Now as far as I am concerned, this book failed epically on all four of the above.
The MCs were so far from compelling that this book was boring for its whole first half : nothing happened.
No really n.o.t.h.i.n.g.
It felt like reading a journal telling us about everything in the female MC life or like a badly digested version of Fifty Shades of Grey without the kinky parts : b.o.r.i.n.g. Both characters were so stereotypical that it wasn't even funny. Now we did get some not so subtle hints that Theo was something more than just a successful and handsome and gentlemanly businessman. But otherwise it was just Dahlia swooning each time she saw the veins in his hands (don't ask !) and him growling each time one of their dates got interrupted by a phone call ...
And then we got to part two. The not so subtle hints were dropped in favor of the truth and all pretense disappeared. Theo still was a handsome and successful businessman, in more ways than one, but he definitely no longer was a gentleman. Actually not only was he violent on the "business" side of things but he was also cunning and abusive in his relationship with Dahlia .
Let me repeat : this is not alpha or protective in any sense, this is abusive and manipulative.
And did Dahlia, the poor but self-sufficient and hard working sweet girl, react and bolt away ? Nope ... she did consider it for a few minutes, but rather she did a 180 and felt guilty towards the "wonderful man" who fearing she didn't love him enough in return !!!
Worse this total change of mind was so badly treated that it was utterly unbelievable . The author used two tricks to try and make us change our mind together with Dahlia : after-the-fact justifications for the way Theo behaved in his "other life", that had nothing to do with the original reasons for his acts, and Dahlia's dreams that were somehow magically and mystically providing her with the ultimate wisdom on how to lead her life ...
No just NO.
And then the plot ... Granted, this is a romance, and not a thriller, but still would it be too much to ask not to have so many loopholes in the story.
Excited is probably the best way to describe it when I got my With Us ARC. A huge fan of her book, Hyde and Seek, I’d heard some early buzz that was as promising as heck, especially about Theo. Tall, dark, and dangerous… sign me up!
Theo is all he was built up to be and more. Although an anti-hero in some ways, he was perfectly alpha-sweet, caring, and careful, knowing when to tread lightly and when to come on strong. He had a plan on how to not only capture his prey but also to make sure he gets to keep her when all is revealed because Theo had some secrets. Big secrets.
Dahlia, I had a little bit of a harder time with. Having grown up in foster care, she had learned to never get attached. Because of this, Theo had his work cut out for him convincing her he was for real. Regrettably, that detached attitude kept me from connecting with her for a good part of the book. I liked Dahlia well enough, but it was hard to be invested in her until later on in the book.
With Us has two distinctive parts to it. The first part is all about Theo winning Dahlia over. It’s a sexy, fairytale with Prince Charming coming to life on the pages. He gives Dahlia everything she ever dreamed of but thought she couldn’t have. She balks a bit, but he is determined. This part is sweet but slow, at least for the action-loving half of me, but the romance loving half was in heaven. Still, I frequently found myself putting the book down and then returning to it when I could.
The second half of the book went much faster than the first, finally delivering on the action I was craving. When reality hits, it hits hard. This is when I wanted to shake Theo for keeping Dahlia in the dark at the worst possible time. This half of the book had me shaking my head at both of them but I read it straight through needing to know what was going to happen next.
I loved a lot about With Us. Theo is a wonderful hero, his family is awesome and characters are introduced that had me itching to know their stories. My main complaint was the disconnect between the two halves of the book. I wish that we’d had more of Theo and his activities in the first part. I wanted to know more about the business side of Theo and I wanted more action to temper all that sweetness. Still, I enjoyed the book and can’t wait for the next one. If you love super sweet romance books with bad boys as the hero, With Us is definitely for you.
Rating: 4 Alpha-Sweet Stars.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I totally loved this book. The first half was slow and sweet...a build-up. And then the second half of the book was solo good with that slight twist. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
OMFG! This book hit ALL my favourite things I love in a story!!
-100% safe! - OTT Alpha male - fun family characters -H was NOT a manwhore.... hadn't been with anyone in years!! - Mafia/ Darker themes - Funny - LOVED the build up between characters!!! - action and mystery -no OW/OM drama -HOT scenes - and an epilogue!
-It's very hard to find a darker themed/ mafia book that is 100% safe or the H is not a manwhore! That's one BIG reason why I lived this book!
-This book was soooo easy to read! It flowed well and kept you reading! No "Dull" or "dead" spots between epic/ important moments.
-I freaking LOVED how OTT, Alpha, obsessed, stalk-A- licious the H was!!! He was also sugary sweet! And the Ultimate Book BF!
-I loved how the h started off as this mousy coffee shop worker to a bad ass hitting thugs over the head with a bat o safe her man!!!! She got funnier and more sassy as the book went on, she also became more confident of her self as a person and about her relationship with the H.
Over all this book was fucking amazing!! I'm hoping there will be a book for Luca!!!!! Plz plz plz?!?
I got through about 80% of this book when I couldn't go one more page. This book felt so bloated with a meandering plot and dialogue. It was just too long. (460 pages?!?) I think it could've easily been half the length. I'm convinced that some of these KU authors pad their books because they get paid by the page. Now instead of a book that I loved and will come back and read again and again, we have this book that I won't ever revisit.
I went in blind and the book's tone changed dramatically about halfway in. Suddenly I'm reading a completely different book than I thought I was. And it just felt so stupid and pointless to me.
I have loved other books by this author so this is probably the exception.
OMG I LOVED THIS HERO SO HARD. He was just amazing!!! If you want a H who chases and never wavers then Theo is your man. He was everything I love to read about. Plus he wasn't a manwhore and we never had to hear about any past woman! Thank you to the author for that!
