Bible believers debate whether the spiritual gifts are for today. Henderson argues that they are and operating in the gifts, like tongues, is necessary to living a life of satisfaction and effectiveness. (13)

Much of the book is like others on tongues. Henderson goes over what the gift is, answers criticisms, explores the person of the Holy Spirit, writes about sins against the Spirit, the spiritual benefits of tongues and the proper protocol for use.

There are also some insights in this book I have not seen in others I have read on tongues. One is an enlightening look at the role of the soul in evidencing spiritual gifts and the reason the soul needs to be healed and restored by God. Another is Henderson's discussion on 1 Cor. 14:23-24, drawing attention to the “unlearned” (KJV). The Greek is idiotai, those who are probably believers yet ignorant in the things of the Holy Spirit. I appreciate Henderson encouraging us to always be considerate of unbelievers and the unlearned when exercising tongues.

Henderson's book is thought provoking too. “Believers who have been born again are supposed to be able to manifest and demonstrate the supernatural power of God.” (14) We are supposed to be marked by, characterized by the supernatural.

This is a good book for Christians desiring to know more about the spiritual gift of tongues. You'll find good information and insight. The book is also good for those who are familiar with the gift. You'll be encouraged to exercise it more for the benefit of yourself and others.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I enjoyed this. I loved the use of Scripture and enjoyed the information within this book. I think it's good information on the gift of tongues. Some parts made me second guess a few things as it felt more like a "you better speak tongues" rather than an encouraging read, but I of course didn't take it to heart. I prayed and let the Lord lead me. The audiobook was incredibly helpful to get through this book.

In The Gifts of Tongues, Robert Henderson explored what the gift of tongues truly consists of and what it doesn’t mean. He begins the book by sharing how he received the gifts of speaking in tongues. His father took his family to another church that practiced charismatic because he had a longing for the supernatural. His father was able to connect with the Holy Spirit in a deeper way and began to speak in tongues. At 12 years old, Robert was in the back of a car when he tried to speak in tongues and he couldn’t. He went forward in prayer and he supernaturally began to speak in tongues. He explained how Paul taught on speaking tongues and how we need to speak with love as well. He looked at in the book the debate on tongues and why there is much confusion. He also looked at the person of the Holy Spirit and how he had given that gift to people. He explained in detail, the three sins against the Holy Spirit and how we need to be careful and not to focus on labeling that something is not from God. Many times, speaking in tongues could mean that it is gibberish. Sometimes it might be meant to be between you and Jesus and to bring Him glory.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to learn about the gifts of speaking in tongues and they are wanting to seek and received the gifts themselves. I learned a lot about who the Holy Spirit is and what all incredible power He has. We can also ask for the gifts of speaking in tongues to bring Heaven to earth and to empower our lives. I liked reading about the debate and how he explored all of the issues people have with speaking in tongues. I immensely enjoyed the discussion and how he wrote a comprehension book on receiving the gift and the power that is available to believers. I also liked the personal stories he included about his own experiences with speaking in tongues and how it benefited their lives.

Tongues, What Do You Think?

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW ON MY BLOG: http://bookreadingtic.com/2021/10/12/...

The gift of speaking in tongues has been a hot topic in Christian circles for years. Things are especially controversial around the questions of whether or not tongues are being spoken today, if every believer can speak in tongues, and if someone does not speak in tongues, are they saved?

The author is a firm believer that tongues are for today and states he has that gift. He believes everyone that is baptized in the Holy Spirit will speak in tongues. When someone asks God for the gift, and they are thirsty enough for it, they will receive it.

Using this talent has allowed him to have a special prayer language he can use to communicate with God. It also infuses him with additional power to face the hard and difficult things in life. He views that speaking in tongues is evidence of being marked by God.

He also warns that we should not be overly familiar with the Holy Spirit, nor take Him for granted. Remember He is an equal part of the Godhead. It should be stressed that God does not always act the way we would like Him to, and neither does the Holy Spirit.

This five-star book gives a good summary of the author's view of speaking in tongues. It will be enjoyed by those wanting information about this gift, or want to learn of someone's experience with it.

I got this book not knowing what to expect, as speaking in tongues is foreign to me and my religious training and practices. Overall, it was greatly educational, thought-provoking and inspirational.

The author's key message is speaking in tongues is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit within us. Regardless of how readers feel about communicating in tongues, the deeper take away is that we do not show the Holy Spirit the same intensity, focus or attention as the Father and Son.

I see this as my main learning point from this read - the Holy Spirit is within us always, let us live in reference and in reverence to Him.

The rest of the read is fascinating, talking about the purpose of speaking in tongues, with Biblical references. Regardless of your preconceived notions on speaking in tongues, this is a very well done reading, and I highly recommend!

In Gift of Tongues, Robert Henderson provides Biblical scripture to throughly explain this gift given by the Holy Spirit and why this gift of tongues is so important to a Christian’s prayer life. He provides information on how the process takes place and addresses the misbeliefs and rumors surrounding this gift. And throughout the book, he explains how this gift to man interacts with all three persons of the Trinity.
