After a nasty breakup and moving to a small town, she is determined to get her life back on track. She wasn’t expecting to meet a sexy, charming, military veteran who causes her to feel things she’s never felt.
Jake has devoted his life to the military. That is, until he couldn’t anymore.
Now back in his small town, Jake is just trying to get his life back on track. He wasn’t expecting to see the beautiful woman he helped on the side of the road.
She’s the counselor, he’s the client.
The two have a charged connection they can’t ignore.
Lines become blurred and boundaries are broken.
Can Alex risk everything for love? Will Jake let her?
J. Akridge is contemporary romance author that has a quirky sense of humor and enjoys sweet, sexy, feel-good romance. She likes her bun messy, her sweats comfy, and her coffee strong. She resides in Missouri with her husband and their three children where she is experiencing her own happily ever after with her high school sweetheart.
Charged is a beautiful story about overcoming trauma and dealing with grief. This book is part of the Salvation Society series, and it is incredible. Charged is emotionally gripping, heartrending and will have you rejoicing when the couple gets their HEA. I enjoyed that this book is a standalone and does not end with a cliffhanger, and I love that it is a fast-paced, quick sexy read with unexpected twists.
Alexandra and Jake, the main characters, have both experienced trauma and deserve happiness, but it did not come without a price. It is a hefty price!
Alexandra is a counsellor and a group facilitator. Jake has tried individual counselling several times for depression and PTSD and decided to give group counselling a try. When lines and boundaries get blurred and are crossed, I was cheering for the couple because they were willing to risk everything for a small piece of happiness.
If you are looking for a book that will emotionally arrest you, I highly recommend you read Charged.
Jake may have left his military career in his past but the aftereffects still haunt him. He is finding the adjustment to civilian life more difficult than he expected until Alexandra comes into his life but with her comes a new set of challenges.
After what she has endured Alexandra is questioning her judgement when it comes to me. She is drawn to Jake in a way she never expected but is the reward of being with him worth the risk?
Jake and Alexandra take us on an emotional ride as there are so many reasons that they shouldn’t be together and only one reason they should which is the love and healing they bring to each other.
Ok, now this was GREAT!! J. Akridge cemented me as a fan with The Tribute Series and since then I’ve fallen for all of her characters. I would love to see more of these characters and I’d also love if Cat and Abby each got a book. 🖤🔥❤️🔥🖤
Alexandra has worked her hinny off to be the best that she can be. A counselor to those who have suffered and need to know they are still worth it. She is the head of the group of the Veteran meetings to let off what they went through and how to get the help they need. What she doesn't expect is one of them to be the kind gentleman that helped her on the side of the road. He's attractive yes, and she knows that she can not get involved, but there is something about Jake that just sets her blood flowing. Jake has had his issues knowing that he won't be able to go back to active duty is something he has had to fight with. His demons are his own, but he knows it's time to get a little extra help. He doesn't realize that help is in pint-size Alexandra. His heart beats faster when she's around, but it's forbidden. These unlikely two form a friendship and a love like no other. Sadly someone else is trying to take that away. When bad things start to happen can Jake be there to save her? Alex has been through so much, but she's tough as nails and I loved her character.

I knew this book was gonna be a good one based on who wrote it. I knew I'd be taken on a wild ride, and I was not disappointed. I was entranced from the very beginning and I cannot wait for more!!!!!
This is my absolute favorite from the new set of Salvation Society novels! I adored Alex & Jake! This was a quicker read for me, only a few hours. Mostly because I was drawn into the story.
Forbidden Romance between a military vet and his group therapy counselor. Add a little stalker. Some steamy scenes. Angst. Crazy OW ex. There’s a little something for everyone.
This book hooked me from the start! I fell in love with Alex & Jake! Couldn't put it down, stayed up reading even though I have to work tomorrow! Totally worth the book hangover!
I was hooked- Jake and Alex each have troubled pasts, her with ex-boyfriend and him being former military. We get a little of Catherine as she is Alex cousin. LOVED IT- heat, mystery, pain and love
Raw and emotional, this story takes you on a ride of working through your history, finding love at the most unexpected time and intriguing twists that I did not expect. I found the connection between Alex and Jake instant. Like they just fit into a puzzle together. Even if things shouldn’t happen, they do. But with every rough patch, these two are there together fighting through it. I love the unexpected elements that Akridge added to this story which to me gave it so much more depth. There are so many raw emotions that swirl in this story and that connection into the Salvation series was just the right amount!
What a great story! It certainly is emotional and got me hooked right off. Alex and Jake, counsellor and patient, both having experienced different traumas , trying to deal with them and trying to find a new way of living.. I really loved this story and it's impossible not to get attached to the characters and cheer them on.
A little forbidden but a lot sexy. Alex and Jake shouldn't work but the chemistry between them is undeniable. The story is gripping and emotional and the story of both character overcoming their pasts had me on the edge of my seat.
Absolutely Amazing story! Love this book. It really kept me turning the page with wondering what was going to happen next in this love story. With the shocking tragedies and ups and downs I felt every emotional rollercoaster. From him starting off on tour in Syria with his buddies to coming home and working through PTSD and finding the love of his life. Her life also had its troubles coming from an abusive relationship. However their relationship can cost her everything. I can't say enough how good this love story is.

An amazingly sweet book with some very sexy scenes 😉🔥. This book brings out so many emotions while you read it and you will need a tissue or two. A definite must read.
If you are wanting a sexy read look no further! I swear this book had me hooked from the first chapter. Jake is seriously the sexiest man in the book universe right now. There is twists and turns constantly, only on the go and keep you going feeling. It’s sexy, adventurous with a bit of mystery. The characters are beyond amazing. J. Akridge really outdid herself with this one.
