Grrr

It absolutely irritates me when an author releases a book that has already been out with a different title and doesn't warn readers in the blurb. It waste my time and if I didn't have ku it would waste my money. I have already read the first 3 books in this series under another name and have been waiting forever for the next. Then I started this book with a new name and in the first sentence I recognized it. And I'll admit that the first titles were not that great and the new ones are better. All I'm saying is warn us and it would have been nice to read the complete series before it started over.

The world building in the story is fantastic. The characters and relationships were well rounded and believable. The story and plot are interesting so far. The problem I have with this book is this:

The entire book is almost completely internal musings, internal monologues, and internal narration!! Almost the entire story takes places inside the main characters’ heads.

Do you know what it’s like to read page after page after page of someone’s thoughts? No talking, no doing, no planning, just thinking! It’s pretty tedious. I don’t even wanna be alone with my own thoughts like that, let alone an imaginary person’s thoughts. Even when there are action scenes the author is writing the “action” in between all the thinking thinking THINKING.

So, while this is an admirable story attempt, and I love the world and the characters, I can’t make myself read any more of this.

- Fantasy Reverse harem
- 4 guys in prospective harem
- Low steam
- 1/5 steamy stars. There is one NA type sex scene in this book.
- Slow/medium burn
- No MM or FF
- No triggers
- Multiple POV’s
- FMC is supposedly a super special snowflake, but we don’t know how yet.

Hold on and enjoy the ride in reading this book. Being that its full on action packed and fast paced from start to finish. Tessa (FMC) is just a brilliant character. She seemed to have no fear with whatever she was confronted with. More so when she meets - Finn, Dresden, Griffin and Kai. All her anxieties and everything that people told her she was imagining makes sense then. Dragons, Demons and a new world this book keeps you on your toes. That cliffhanger ending was just knockout! A cracking start to this series

Elemental Awakened by Helen Scott is the first book in her Of Demons and Dragons series and this book is absolutely fascinating. The author introduces readers to Tessa, a young woman with a less than ideal past/childhood. Even now life isn’t that great for her. She keeps to herself, does her work, and is just working to graduate and continue pursuing her career, but everything is about to change. Seeing mysterious dragons in her peripheral is just the tip of the iceberg and four mysterious men are about to really shake things up.
Elemental Awakened was a really interesting story to read, for me. Tessa is an interesting character and getting some of her past/history only furthers that. She’s had some nasty trauma from her childhood, but the author only gives readers bits and pieces of what happened. I hate that Tessa went through what she went through, but I also hate that she’s unable to really date anyone because of the men she tries with...well, they’re idiots. The four guys that she ends up meeting are each interesting in their own way. The author really keeps things in the shadows so you don’t get a lot of information about them in this book, but I’m hopeful for more in future books.
Normally, I’d complain about there being a lot of mundane day-to-day content in a book, but for this one...it really works. You get the mundane, but you get just enough excitement mixed in as well. You get danger from Tessa being stalked and hunted by these creatures hijacking humans. But the threat doesn’t just surround her. The guys face it as well, so you just never know when it’s going to make an appearance.
Elemental Awakened is the setting of the stage for the next book so I’m eager to find out what happens next. I’m rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. It seems like that this is going to be a really interesting series.

I mean there was nothing particularly bad about this book, but also nothing stood out as interesting. Usually a book like this I’d give three stars except it was so meh that I have absolutely NO desire to read the sequel. It didn’t help that I literally had just finished the first three books of a series which also featured a girl who saw things, a storied past, and her ability to save a different five realms with her super unique powers. Nothing against Helen Scott this is the second book of hers that I tried that sounded promising and was written well, but the story just didn’t grip me so it could just be my tastes.

If you want to give this book a go to see if it’s more to your tastes I have a few notes.

-The lead is a touch Mary Sue coming off strong but constantly back peddling and self pitying.
-The guys are all pretty broody but there is potential.
-The dragons were not what I was expecting but instead lil puff the magic dragon creatures. The demons are more different dimension humanoids less biblical.
-The book is largely dedicated to getting the FMC to accept the guys’ story and agree to help them, not entering into the realms and truly developing the story until the end.
-There is a decent amount of internal monologues that will most likely annoy those who don’t have the patience for it.

So yeah there’s my two cents, I managed to finish it so if it sounds like your type of story it’s worth at least reading the first chapter.

2 stars, 68%, C+

Wow what a read

This book floored me especially with that killer cliffhanger ending!! Omg I need more.
The main character of Tessa is so well written that you just want the best for her with everything that she has been through all her life. Then with the appearance of Finn in her hour of need, just made the book come alive. Then when she meets Dres, Griff and Kai too things get crazy twisty. Especially the chemistry that comes out between them all.
To then end the book with that cliffhanger to leave you wanting more

wow where to start, this is an amazing story that draws you in to a world with dragons and demons, and with so many twists and turns that will keep you guessing. Tessa thinks that she is a normal college girl until some weird things start to happen that she cannot explain and it ensares 4 hot guys. Can they explain to Tessa what’s going on before all 5 worlds are turned upside down. I really cannot wait for the next book in this series as I’m dying to find out what happens to Tessa

This was a seriously great start to a new series! Terra thinks she’s a normal college student until she starts seeing impossible things and meets these guys Kai, Finn, Dresden and Griff. Everything in her world changes. Things get crazy quickly and she has to learn to keep up!
This is a wild ride and I was hooked from the beginning! I couldn’t put this down.
Super excited to see where book 2 takes the story and characters after the way this book ends!

I read this series years ago and always wondered what would happen next. I am so glad that the author decided to revamp and rerelease this series so that I might get the answers to the questions that I crave. This book is a great first book to what I am sure will be an amazing series and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Tessa’s pretty awesome. I like that she comes across as just a normal girl. She’s got some messed up past, but she’s learned to cope. Then 4 guys enter her life and she realizes that there is more to her than she knew. Finn, Griff, Dresden, and Kai are all from different realms, but are a team. While they are friends, they can also really irritate each other, especially Kai. Griff and Finn are my favorites so far. The story does end on a cliffhanger, so hopefully book 2 is out soon!

65% in and I’m bored as heck. FMC is getting a little annoying with the whole, ughhh fine if you want to talk I’m going home attitude. Have you never just hung out with people (significant other) and didn’t need to talk? It’s fine. If anything it means that you all will last because you don’t need “filler”.

Dnf, I started speed reading and skipping sentences. Why force it I’ll find a better book to read elsewhere. I blame FMC and Dres (MMC).

Helen Scott is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors, I first book I read by her was the first book in the House of Wolves and Magic series and I devoured each book in the series, always ready for more. So when I learned about her new series, Of Demons and Dragons, I was more than ready for the new paranormal reverse harem series. Elemental Awakened was freaking awesome, a main female character who can't tell if she's crazy or not, hot warrior like guys, with compelling multiple points of view story that is filled with magic and has a touch of mystery. To say that I was fascinated with the story is downplaying it, I loved every minute of it and I can't wait for more.

Tessa is the main female character and after being hurt by her mother and going into the foster system she doesn't open up to people easily. She doesn't really fit in when she has been seeing weird things since she was a child and believes everything she's been seeing is all in her head, it would make any girl keep to herself. However, Tessa is smart, she's just graduated from college as a graphic artist, she has a job, knows what she wants to do, and is good at it. While she does have issues that stem from her childhood she is moving on with her life, she might not fit in but that's okay with her.

After some weird events, she meets Finn, Griffin, Dresden, and Kai, these four guys aren't like anyone else she's been around, there is something strong between her and all the guys. Finn is the sweet flirt, Griffin is the protective teddy bear (also might be my favorite), Dresden is a bit more complicated because he tends to hide his feelings while Kai is sort of a jerk, he feels one way on the inside but reflects things and acts out around Tessa. I love it when the guys have chapters to see what's going on in their heads. I like the guys, each one of them is different, they offer something different but they work great as a team and they all feel a pull to Tessa as she does to them. I can see the bond-forming easily between two of them but the real entertaining part is how the bond will affect the other two, I have a feeling that relationship drama will unfold and I'm ready for the frustration.

I love it when a character is crazy but Tessa isn't really, she sees magic, really cool magic. The magic in this book was interesting, runes, wards, elemental powers, and more, not to mentation the cute supernatural creatures called caretakers are very interesting. I have no idea about what's going on with them but I would love to know more and I would love to see more of them in future books. Another great aspect of the story was the five different realms that each of the guys are from one of the five realms and while there was a hint about the other realms there wasn't much information until the end and I can't wait to find out more about the people, the culture, the politics, and how the realms interact with each other. Something is going on with Tessa that's obvious but I don't know what there was something in the end that hints at maybe what's suppose to happen but only time will tell. I think it has something to do with the two opposing factions and while one seems better than the other I have a feeling that maybe neither can be trusted.

Elemental Awakened was fantastic, it's just the beginning of the series and things are already wild wit, sexual tension, stalking, impossible magic, snark, fighting, and so much more. The story ended on a crazy cliffhanger and I'm already wishing I had the next book in the series in my hand.

Helen's books have been on my TBR pile for a while, so I thought I'd dive into this world and see what it was all about. I really enjoyed the writing style, story, and world-building!

Tessa's been a bit weird her whole life. Her mom tried to burn demons out of her while she was young and she sees dragon's the no one else can. All told she's making a decent time of it going to university and becoming an artist/graphic designer. One day when a creep just can't take no for an answer everything changes. Four dishy men can't stop running into her and weird attacks keep happening.

She soon realises she's not as human as she thought and the guys understand her weird. She has to embark on an adventure to save the worlds.

The FMC!
Tessa's seen some stuff in her life, which has given her a different outlook. She takes her new life mission and the fact there are other realms really well. The poly life isn't a normal thing, so there's tension as everyone is drawn to her.

The Guys!
Finn, Dresden, Griffin and Kai - all the guys are from the four realms so have different cultures and upbringings. It proves for an interesting dynamic as they all have to work together to find and then protect The Key.

The Smut!
This one is a slow build-up with loads of sexual tension and some one-on-one sexy time.

This seems like it’s going to be a really intriguing series. This first book has really been setting the scene for something much bigger in the works meeting our FMC Tessa who sees things no one else can and being hunted by demons that hijack humans. We really get a good feel for her and the past that haunts her. Her character is really well developed and well rounded with sassiness yet enough sense to know when to back away. The guys are each from a different realms and each have their own characteristics that represent this which is always a great way to really identify and separate each guy and individualises them. This book I feel is just the tip of the iceberg into a wonderful world of action and fantasy where demons and dragons really do fight to win the war. And what exactly will this key do?! Definitely looking forward to seeing more.

This is book one of the Of Demons and Dragons series and the main character is Tessa Morningstar and she is nearly finished her senior year as a graphic design major. She has to deal with the hassle of her current art history class assigned partner, who seems to think that someone saying no to him, allows him to continue to harass her and try to force her to go out with him. She had enough of a rubbish and extremely abusive childhood, with a mother who tried to burn the devil out of her and then years of having to hide a withered and badly burnt hand with a glove! She managed to get away from her annoying classmate and runs straight into Finn Blackmoth, who had heard the commotion. He walks her out of the building and saw her sketchbook when he helped her pick up her things. She likes drawing sketches of dragons, creatures that she has always been able to see, but can only sketch from what she can see from her peripheral vision, as every time she every tries to turn and view them directly, they disappear. Finn and his friends know these creatures as ‘caretakers’ and had noticed a large concentration of them in the area. They had been sent to this realm to find the ‘key’, what they thought was an object they would need to save life in all five realms, with Earth being the fifth realm, known by them as the ‘origin realm’. Others who were hunting for the key to the five realms, in order to destroy it, had been killing caretakers.
Killing a caretaker is a heinous crime in the other four realms and those who travelled to this realm illegally, are known as ‘distorted’, due to them using dark magic to give up their actual bodies. They would then possess a human body to use and once they over used it, it would literally burn up into ashes! Thankfully, Finn and his friends Dres (Dresden), Griff (Griffin) and Kai had each come from a different realm and become a unit, training together for years, before being lucky enough to be sent on this important mission to hunt for the key. Finn was the scientist, Kai the engineer, Griff the warrior and Dres is a mind reader. They have limited magic in this realm and use their training and teamwork to look for what they were sent to find. If they find the key, they can save all five realms from collapsing into each other, being destroyed and causing massive destruction and death. Finn has to persuade his fellow warrior brothers of what he believes Tessa is and then figure out how much of the truth to tell her. She is a human and it will be a lot for her to take in or even understand. She has already gone through so much in her short life so far, seeing demons and not being believed, never mind the dragon like creatures she has always seen and the damage she suffered under her birth parents. What would these four men bring that she couldn’t handle? A surprising twist on some supernatural concepts, making for an interesting and compulsive read, with a good touch of romance starting to show itself in action. Danger aplenty for Tessa and the warriors as they seek to save the five realms. I look forward to the next book and the rest of this series with bated breath! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Interesting book, great author and the way the characters are set up make it interesting. It ends on a cliff hanger for you people who don’t like those. There is Tessa who is a college student with a horrible past. She sees visions of dragons and is compelled to draw them. When she starts getting attacked in rush in the hero’s. Finn, Dresden, Griffin, Kai, they are all warriors from another realm sent to find a key that will unite all. They believe she is the key. They get her to their home realm and chaos rains!

Wow! This was quite an interesting book and I could not get enough of it! There was a lot of world building and I feel like there is a lot of easter eggs that Helen leaves us with in this book that I cannot wait to find out what will happen next in this series!

Tessa seems like she is just like every other normal person but she sees dragons and can't fully look at them but is constantly drawing them. We start off with a bang and delve into the world of demons. Tessa meets a man that comes right in the nick of time and slowly from there she is introduced to 3 other men and has a very strong connection to them all. We get a brooding a**hole but seems to just be misunderstood between them both however they never voice the truth. Then there is the funny man, a man that is all in his head sometimes and then a big giant who isn't as scary as he seems.

We are given the world building but there are so many questions that I have and I cannot wait to get the second book. I would highly recommend you pick up this book because it was absolutely amazing and you won't be able to put it down. There is an intense cliffhanger that I found myself wanting to chuck the book but it is so worth it!!

This is my 2nd time reading this series, and I can remember I actually loved it the first go around. I guess that goes to show me that reading tastes have changed quite a bit in recent years. Especially seeing as now I'd rate the whole series as a 2.5 now... main reason is because I disliked the way the fmc treated the guys. She was so mean in the second book, and honestly, it only got slightly nicer later. She just rubbed me the wrong way. Her character is portrayed as smart and independent (in the beginning), but literally, throughout this whole series, all she did was whine and complain about everything. She acted little more than a child throwing a tantrum 80% of the series. I wanted so much more from her character. If she was changed out and wrote with different character traits, I'd probably have enjoyed the books more cuz I absolutely adored the guys. Also, there was no originality in the sexy scenes, and I thought maybe there'd be some spice even between the male characters cuz of a few instances, but nope, nada just boring repetive scenes. Needs more editing. Anyways it wasn't worth it for me, but for some it would be. So that's why I'm rating it 2.5.

I loved this book!

Ok, I totally am digging this book, and I can't wait to see what happens next!!

The whole story is sooooo intriguing... and unique! I love that Atlantis is one of the realms but unfortunately I don't think they mentioned what the names of the other 3 realms were. Cause there are 5 realms... the 4 that Finn, Dex, Griff and Kai are from and earth being the 5th realm. And the guys were sent to the 5th realm to find a key that would stabilize the other realms and save millions of people. But they didn't know that the key they were looking for was a woman. Tessa is just trying to figure out her life and finish college when people start randomly attacking her... and she just knows she's seeing things when these things turn into ash. Now Tessa and the guys have to return to the magical realms but there is a fanatical group trying to stop them!

The ending is definitely a cliffhanger so I am dying to find out what happens next!!

Absolutely fabulous read!!

I recieved an ARC for my honest review.

Would i recommend?
Yes. Absolutely.

The books starts with a graphic designer in college who is damaged and labeled a bit crazy.
Within the 1st chapter i was completely captivated.

We all know 1 creep with dead eyes that you know is a monster without evidence, no logical reasoning but just that gut deep feeling of a darkness in them.

The added little snipits and quirks create such a rich character, and its easy to  love the group and really fall into the book.

The ptsd flashback really got me, as i deal with it. Amazing descriptions and accuracy. That being said definitely a trigger warning.

The dressss. The outfits omg the details/vision given i want to see them come to life they sound exotic and gorgeous.

The details so accurate they shent shivers down my spine.  This book made me laugh as well as keep me on my toes. Its fast paced, spicy, and one hell of a ride.
One hell of a cliffhanger. Holy sheeets. I can not wait for book #2 mark your calendars.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "ELEMENTAL AWAKENING" WOW!!!! Buckle for an interesting, unique, entertaining, intense storyline, addicting page turner you can't put down until finished.
Tessa Morningstar was raised by a sadistic mother who abused her both physically, mentally she saw things as a child she thought were just her imagination he'd draw strange creatures she couldn't explain.
Tessa was a College Senior wanting to be a graphic designer wore a glove to hide the scars on her hand from her mother she was an outsider because of her quirkiness.
When Tessa meets four creatures that are her imagination but real they save her from things she can't believe are real they tell her it's her fate to help them save all the worlds.
I definitely recommend to get this very exciting thrilling unique book so well written so well worth the read so much happens twists that lead you to next book in this amazing series you don't want to miss getting "ELEMENTAL SHADOW"

I read Elemental Awakened late into the wee hours of the morning because I simply did not want to put it down. I fell in insta-love with Tessa, the main character. She is so full of contradictions that oddly complement each other to make a cohesive whole. She's strong and fiery, and while she does get rescued a time or two, she's nobody's damsel in distress. I really liked her character. The men were intriguing with distinct personalities and behavior. For now, Dres is my favorite, but I can't wait to read more about each one of them. The pacing of the story was perfect and the premise is original, which I appreciate and greatly enjoyed. I will definitely be reading book two as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Oh my, I loved this story. It is a fantastic story. It has so much mystery and suspense with a lot of intrigue. The twists and turns throughout the story keeps you on the edge of your seat. Tessa is your quiet but intelligent and strong young lady. Then we get to our leading men with Finn, Griff, Kai, and Dres. They are all unique with strong alpha male qualities. They all lend a hand in the development of the story. It is off to a fabulous start and when it ended all I could say was noooo. I want more. Give me more please. Can’t wait to read the next in the series and see where the story is heading. Because the elements throughout just make it so unique. It is definitely worth reading and it will not disappoint.

Fantastic 🤩

A superb start to a series!!
It’s got mystery, action and steam - what more could you want!
Tessa, the FMC, is human(ish) and has been raised to believe that what she sees is all in her head leading to some traumatic experiences that have left her without trust in the world! Then comes along Finn, Griff, Des and Kai who tell her magic is real and she has a place in their world….yeah she does not believe them unsurprisingly! But throw in some attacks and saving and Tessa is bringing the ‘men’ closer together as a team. Despite the bombshells they throw at her she’s got morals and agrees to help!
The characters are a great mix of qualities and balance each other out! Having the multi-POV is amazing to really get inside their thoughts and understand the perspective!

Looking forward to seeing how Tessa develops and takes on her role!

10 Stars for Helen Scott’s Elemental Awakened, book 1 from her Of Demons and Dragons series.

There are some very established PNR RH authors that I love. Helen Scott is now one I am adding to that list.

Tessa, a quiet and unassuming young wonan, is just trying to complete her college degree, with as little fanfare as possible. Unfortunately, or maybe not, she finds herself repeatedly rescued by a group of unearthly men, who don’t quite understand why they are being drawn to her.

As things gets stranger and more dangerous for Tessa, the key to the whole situation starts to become clearer.

I absolutely loved Elemental Awakened, and would love for many other readers to enjoy this fabulous start, to what appears to be a wonderful series.

This was a different type of book for me. I don't usually do these types of books. I have liked other Helen Scott books so I grabbed this one. Tessa is a young woman with a horrible past. Her mother abused her, she was abandoned by her remaining family. She has worked hard to get where she is now. She has an amazing adopted mom and a great start to a career she has dreamed of. It isn't until she is attacked that her life is changed. She has always known she was different. She can see things other humans cannot. She calls them dragons. Her saviors call them caretakers. They introduce her to the five realms. Earth is just one of them. Is she the key to saving them all?

This book has a major cliff hanger!!!! It hurt.
