Technology is supposed to be our servant. However, for most of us, we have become a servant to technology. We need to turn that scenario around, and make technology work for us, not against us. Technology is supposed to be helping us do more in less time, but instead, it is controlling us in a very negative way. You’ve heard it—do more in less time and go home early, right? What happened to that? In my humble opinion, we have all become so dazzled by technology that we’ve lost all common sense. The methodologies outlined in this book combines distraction management skills, digital information strategies, with proven time management techniques utilizing technology tools for professionals in a practical and simple way. Many time management experts shy away from technology. I firmly believe this is a huge mistake. We must find a balance! Reverting back to paper in today’s modern world is a cop-out, especially in the age of technology and smartphones. The goal of this book is simple—to teach you time and task management skills and to help you cultivate the habits you need to make technology your servant so that you can regain control of your workday and personal life.
I first heard Paul last June when my law firm brought him in to speak about eliminating distractions and was intrigued by his message. I picked up his book and read through it this March.
I’ve been challenged by task organization and time management for a long time. I’ve read books like Getting Things Done and tried many different tools to help. The problem was that I didn’t have a methodology to get started. I’d dump tasks into the program, then get swamped by a huge number of tasks or deep dive on a single one and abandon the list.
This short book gave me what I’ve been missing for the first time in my life - an achievable methodology. The book provides an excellent mix of philosophical objectives with concrete, practical methods for getting and staying organized, and has helpful tips for the suggested tools. In just a couple of weeks I feel more on top of my tasks than I have in five years. There’s more to be done, but this book provided the springboard I needed to get going.
Highly recommended for legal professionals who live their professional lives going from urgent to urgent.
