She Said: Witty Words from Wise Women
She Said is a wonderful celebration of the wit and wisdom of women through the ages. In it you’ll find writers, artists, politicians, actors, musicians, fashionistas, from Sappho to Beyoncé and Dorothy Parker to Carrie Fisher, all of whom have two things in common: brilliant minds and barbed wits that sting with their precision. Featuring women from as far back as 700 BC and right up to the modern day, the quotations and classic one-liners found here will inspire and delight, whether they are cheeky retorts from the outspoken, barbed reflections from the thoughtful or righteous indignation from the slighted. In the words of Elizabeth von Arnim (1866–1941), "A woman's tongue is a deadly weapon and the most difficult thing in the world to keep in order."

She said.

Reflections and lessons learned:
“Find out who you are and do it on purpose” Dolly Parton
Growing up, we used to buy inspirational quote books for each other - did a parent start it or did one of our friendship group find a perfect book to get it started? Either way it worked wonderfully for swapping thought provoking, well timed quotes for random moments. For several years in my twenties I always carried one of the smallest books that I was bought everywhere I went in my handbag, and probably still repeat the learned motivational quotes without thinking - so empowering and important to keep in mind - I’ll have to start stocking up on these for my daughter and her friends... and for me in lockdown!

this book was so underwhelming and felt like faux feminism constantly. there was no nuance and at times even felt sexist and misogynistic which seems to be the opposite of its intention. was a very disappointing read, I read this all in 1 day in the hopes it would improve but it really didnt. I only found a handful of the quotes in here interesting and they were all ones i had heard before or are popular in feminist literature already.

It seems, perhaps, that on occasion the editor of this book mistakes "narcissistic and nasty" for "clever and profound". That isn't to say the book is not enjoyable. It is quite humorous and at times insightful and inspiring. But considering the tone of a lot of the quotes, it seems that mayhap the title should have been something different.

Like so many other quote or pithy advice books, this is good for quick light reading when you have time to think about and chew over particularly flavorful morsels to get all the nutrition you can from them. Well organized by subject for finding relevant quotes later, should you choose to use it as a reference book.

Some great words of wisdom! I mainly gave three stars because the overall tone seemed kind of negative instead of the uplifting words of wisdom that was expected. The marriage chapter especially highlighted some bitter views.

A collection of witty / profound statements made by women.
I thought some parts of this book were fantastic, but a lot of it felt like ‘filling’.

Found the first half of the book less witty and more petty and small minded but the second half was better and much wiser

Some of the quotes felt out of place, as in they weren’t really ones that felt worth celebrating, but good organization. I definitely found some personal mantras and potential embroideries in here.

An easy read that brings along an inquisitive pondering, thoughtfulness, and the occasional chuckle.

What to say - it's a book of quotes - some are quite interesting, some not, however it was a gift so I felt duty bound to read it 😄

Quotes for every occasion. Nothing like advice from other women. Excellent source for laughs and motivation.
