Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.
Many submissions and rejections followed.
In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.
In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.
She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.
She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.
Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

Odd man out, Tinker McClintock was given a road trip mission. With a line on the location of the last Quinn sibling, Tinker hopes she’ll be his one, true mate. As Chanku, there is no racial divide, only pack. But, Chanku exist in the larger world, and his dark chocolate skin has set him apart much of his life.
Lisa Quinn has remade herself. Devastated by the loss of her family, dysfunctional as it was, left her wandering and without purpose. Until she found the wolf sanctuary and came to work there. It almost seems she can communicate with her four legged charges. There is familiarity, but not yet trust. Someone is stealing wolves, and Lisa hopes to find out who.
Tinker is unprepared for the Amazon, that is the last Quinn. Tall, dark and slender, there is family resemblance; there is also Chanku connection. Within hours of meeting, they share bodies and possibilities. Lisa is nonplussed by Tinker. She had considered herself lesbian in orientation, but Tinker stirs more than her imagination.
When the nutrients produce change faster than expected, a whole new reality opens up. Then Lisa is kidnapped as a wolf. The last words she hears are “Don’t shift” as she falls into unconsciousness. Tinker follows her captor, while sending out a call for help, and then wonder kicks in.
It’s going to take more than Lisa, Tinker, Tia and Luc to stop all the threats to the endangered wolves and other animals. Fortunately, their pack has some power players to even the odds.
Just a word to the average reader, be prepared to step into a different shifter world. And, this series is so hot it should make an e-reader melt! I don't even know what abbreviations to use for the relationships in this series.
The Chanku are a lost race of shapeshifters. Slowly, the core group of Chanku is discovering other Chanku and helping them make the change to being a shapeshifter. While the books center around a couple, the rest of the pack are supporting characters.
I LOVE Tinker and I am so glad I got to watch him find his person in this book! Kate Douglas really makes you fall for the characters in her stories and I really loves the spicy scenes just as much as the endearing ones.
Lisa Quinn, Baylor and Tala's sister, has finally been located in Colorado, working at the "High Mountain Wolf Sanctuary" This part of our tale opens with Lisa sitting on a large rock in one of the enclosures. Surrounded by a pack of wolves, all are relaxed, sitting back on their haunches, accepting her as one of there own. It brought tears to her eyes. These were her wolves and she was worried. Wolves have disappeared without a trace.
Martin McClintock, (Tinker), is assigned to track down Lisa Quinn and his task, tell her about her brother and sister and then reveal her Chanku heritage to her. Lisa was easy to find. She was on the side of the road, picking up road kill. Tinker spot, what he thought to be a break down. After introductions, Tinker picked up the carcass of a deer and put it in the truck. Tinker was huge, 6'5", and as broad as a doorway. Plus he had the nicest ass Lisa had ever seen. The mutual attraction is spellbinding, tension building. Now the fog up the windows adventure all of us should have enjoyed.
Tinker is quick to take charge, looks at her and says, "We really need to set down and talk, but it's obvious we need to get something else out of the way first. I suggest we both get naked, rub a little, touch a little, then imitate bunny rabbits. Readers, it just gets hotter from here.
As Lisa and Tinker begin their investigation of the missing wolves, Tinker realizes he is going to need help. He calls Luc and Tia, there on the way. In the mean time, Lisa shifts for the first time, they end up mating and what Lisa sees in Tinkers thoughts, spikes her interest in Tia. The four of them working together produces results quickly. They find out what happened to the wolves and more secrets come out.
Lisa and Tia sit on the couch naked, watching Tinker and Luke wrestle for the upper hand. Tia looks at Lisa and tells her two things; first, "the love of a Chanku man for his woman is to the death. Second; when you and Tinker mated, you became family, we will always be your family and we look out for each other. Lisa finally has the family she has hungered for and a man that loves her. Tinker has finally found a family, where color is, for all practical purposes, non-existent.
Kate Douglas bills these as erotic fiction. I beg to differ but I mean that as a compliment.
Is Wolf Tale 4 hot? Oh ya! Is there lots of sex? Definitely. There's also great character development, a plot and a strong and well developed back story, and those are things that, at least in my experience, you don't normally find in modern day "erotica".
Lisa and Tinker are fully developed characters with real motivations, hang-ups and history and they draw on an interesting cast, both the Pack Dynamics crew from previous Wolf Tales and the employees from the wolf sanctuary where Lisa works.
What's more, there actually is a plot; quite a complex one. On one level, it is the typical erotica plot - hot, beautiful young people having lots of sex in various situations, positions and combinations. There's straight up man on woman, man on man, woman on woman and, because the Chanku are shifters there's even wolf on human and wolf on wolf sex, but none of it is mere sex for the sake of sex. You never find yourself having to just accept that somehow our hero/heroine have managed to get themselves into a situation as unlikely enough to have crawled out of the pages of Penthouse Forum and keep reading for the sex. If you can accept the fact that some folks turn into wolves from time to time, and if the current, runaway popularity of paranormal romance suggests many of us have no problem with that, accepting the sex and the rest of the story, is a cakewalk.
On another level, it's a crime investigation. Actually, it's two separate crime stories, both of them solved, by the end, by our heroes and their Pack Dynamics team.
Wolf Tales IV is, as the title suggests, part of a series and since we've met some of the cast before, it helps to understand what's going on if you've read the stories that came before. Having said that, I've had difficulties tracking down Wolf Tales III so I've never read it, and I don't think I missed out on anything significant as a result.
If you can find Tales 1 through 3, read them. The two I read were great stories, but whether you can find them or not, if you run across this one, by all means read it. It' a keeper.
The Chanku saga continues in the fourth installment of the Wolf Tales series. This novel is the story of Tinker McClintock, who seeks out Lisa Quinn and teaches her of her Chanku heritage. Lisa resides in Colorado and works at a wolf sanctuary. At this particular sanctuary, wolves have been turning up missing and Lisa's boss has been pointing the finger at her, because he has seen her out late at night in areas she shouldn't be in just looking at the wolves. She can't tell him, but the reason she is out there is because she feels close with the wolves. Once Tinker gets to town he helps her understand the attachment she has to the wolves. Tinker and Lisa, with the help of Pack Dynamics, a Chanku Detective agency, solve the case of the missing wolves.
This is the most action-packed book in the series yet. There are lots of subplots, and Douglas comes from all angles with little plot twists and surprises to keep readers on their toes. I was on the edge of my seat for quite a while in this book, not knowing how the wolves were going to escape when they were "caged" at one point. It was very suspenseful! I was also really happy to see Tinker finally find himself a mate in this book after being the "third wheel" in previous books within the series. I know he was greatly loved by the others in his pack, but he was missing that extra special bond between mates. I love how Douglas keeps the balance flowing between erotic scenes and the rest of the storyline. Readers will also appreciate how she keeps adding onto the storyline without using awkward flashbacks to provide background. Highly recommended.
Review: Wolf Tales IV is a lusciously arousing tale that will captivate your senses and send you heart racing with erotic delight. The Chanku heritage is being found in more people and the pack is sending out Tinker McClintock to see if Lisa Quinn possesses the special ability to shapeshift. Lisa has finally found a job that she feels more content with, but knows there is something missing in her life. She discovers her Chanku abilities when Tinker initiates her into the world of Chanku by sharing his knowledge, body, soul and his pack with her. Their sensual journey will leave you breathless when Lisa and Tinker share their special link with Tia and Luc, who we met in a previous novel, and the emotional and sexual ties that bind them all is hot enough to melt steel.
The engaging plot will keep you intrigued with memorable characters and the mysterious disappearances of wolves from the sanctuary that Lisa works for. There is danger all around them as Lisa, Tinker, Tia and Luc follow the trail of deceit that peaks into an exciting ending. Kate Douglas has penned another sinfully delicious tale of the Chanku that will leave you hot, bothered and wanting more from her sexy shapeshifters. It’s a fantastic read that I highly recommend and a definite keeper. It will go on my self beside the other Wolf Tales novels in my collection. I can’t wait for the next one!
This book is erotica, so if that's not your thing, stop reading.
So, this is book 4 in an erotica series about a polyamourous werewolf pack. In this book, Tinker finds his mate, Lisa, who happens to work at a wolf sanctuary where some shady stuff has been going on. Tinker and the rest of Pack Dynamics help catch the bad guys, and along the way, there are some very steamy sex scenes.
The erotica in this book can be a little over the top. Not only is there every combination of two women and two men, but these are werewolves, and they think nothing of shifting into their other form for a romp, regardless of the form their partner is in. (Honestly, yuck!)
This book wasn't as entertaining as some of the previous ones. The entire series is formulaic, but in this case, it took a while before the formula got to anything interesting.
By the end, they start to set up Tia's dad, Ulrich, to meet a newly discovered werewolf (who doesn't yet know she is a werewolf).
You don't read this series for the storytelling, but when the hot scenes are good, they are very very good. Unfortunately, this book didn't have many good ones.
Lisa goes to Colorado after living in Florida hoping to find what is left empty in her life. She lives on a sanctuary taking care of wolves. She thinks living at the wolf sanctuary will help her fill this hollow or the emptiness in her life.
Tinker, who is the packmate in San Francisco, is sent to Lisa after learning she too is Chanku discovering from her brother who recently joined the pack from Maine.
Something is going on at the sanctuary. She just can't put her hands on it. Tinker helps her in this mystery and eventually they find the Chanku relationship. While working, they discover what this mystery may be. The owner of the property has a lot to do with it along with the director of the property. You will have to read to see what's up with this. It is so big Tinker calls the pack from San Francisco as well as the head pack mate from Wyoming, Anton.
This book is so good, I've ordered all of the Sexy Beast novellas. I even contacted the author and told her how much I enjoyed the series! This book is truely one of the best of the series. I recommend it to anyone.
This series was mentioned to me by a new friend. I have always been into this genre with were creatures and the like. Wolf Tales is very different to most I have read though, Kate has brought the love and passion that is a part of a polyamorous relationship. It is not simply an erotic story but also something for the soul. To express the needs and wants of the more carnal side. Aside from that the characters are well thought out, they are not perfect stereotypes but have flaws, something relatable. The conversations are natural and not a forced filler. The story itself has a flow which is not as fast paced as the page count may cause you to think. They are full stories that have tie up all the lose ends and do not leave you hanging.
Chanku are very, very, VERY hot shifters! Be warned, if same sex relationships bother you, stay away.
I loved them all but I think Chanku Fallen in SB2 is my favorite. These are keepers
Chanku series Wolf Tales Sexy Beast~Chanku Rising Wolf Tales II Wild Nights~~Camille's Dawn Wolf Tales III Sexy Beast II~~ Chanku Fallen Wolf Tales IV Sexy Beast III~~ Chanku Journey Wolf Tales V Sexy Beast IV~~Chanku Destiny Wolf Tales VI Sexy Beast V~~Chanku Wild Wolf Tales VII Sexy Beast VI~~Chanku Honor Wolf Tales VIII
This book got rather good reviews and the first third of the book was enjoyable...then it moved into the not interesting category pretty quick. Maybe it's me, but it was such a transparent plot, there was no anticipation or build up - just pretty dull. I skipped through the last half hoping to discover something more, but no luck.
As a longtime reader of shapeshifter stories I am delighted to say that there are still a few surprises out there. This book is CRAZY and I am saying that smiling. WOW. Just crazy, so bad that it is amusing.
Tinker and Lisa's story was awesome. To say the least, it was amazing. When you first figure out what's going on with them you won't believe it bc it's not the norm. But you soon realize that this will be a very interesting story... I also love that Tinker finally got his happily ever after
Oh Tinker, how tall, dark, handsome and dead sexy you are. Lisa is pretty awesome as well.. love the dreams and the tie-in with books 2 (Tinker) and 3 (Lisa). Tinker is just the person to help Lisa learn all types of things.... not just why her wolves are disappearing.. ;)
It would have been better if they were actually hunted instead of just trapped on the sanctuary..am actually disappointed in this series.. Oh well. I liked one and three maybe five will be better..
