Pilot Dodge Kingston has always been the heir to Sky King Ranch. But after a terrible family fight, he left to become a pararescue jumper. A decade later, he's headed home to the destiny that awaits him.

That's not all that's waiting for Dodge. His childhood best friend and former flame, Echo Yazzie, is a true Alaskan--a homesteader, dogsledder, and research guide for the DNR. Most of all, she's living a life Dodge knows could get her killed. One of these days she's going to get lost in the woods again, and his worst fear is that he won't be there to find her.

When one of Echo's fellow researchers goes missing, Echo sets out to find her, despite a blizzard, a rogue grizzly haunting the woods, and the biting cold. Plus, there's more than just the regular dangers of the Alaskan forests stalking her . . .

Will Dodge be able to find her in time? And if he does, is there still room for him in her heart?

I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. And, if you're interested, sign up for my newsletter, a quarterly sneak peek into upcoming releases and projects. Thank you for your interest and support.

God Bless and Happy Reading!

4.5 stars!

Characters: I don’t know how Susan May Warren does it, but she always creates great characters. They seem like real people with real feelings and problems. I enjoyed reading both Echo’s and Dodge’s perspectives.

Language: Clean.

Moral: Why does my brain tend to go blank when I get to this section? I need to start taking notes or something. Anyway … A couple of the morals that I do remember were forgiveness and hope.

Plot: I have no idea why this book is labeled “contemporary romance.” It reads more like romantic suspense or action/adventure with some romance to me. I definitely kept turning pages and wanting to read more. And that cliffhanger … :) I need the next book!

Romance: Clean. A few kisses. I liked how the romance in this book was a little lighter than in some of Susan May Warren’s other books. I appreciated how the characters got out of situations when they found themselves tempted instead of hanging around to see what would happen.

Writing: As usual, I really enjoyed Susan May Warren’s writing style. She’s got this way of bringing the characters to life and giving them good voices. I did think the descriptions of what the characters were wearing got to be a little much, but that’s just a picky reader thing.

Overall: Sunrise was an exciting read, and I’d recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction, romantic suspense, and action/adventure stories.

Disclosure: I received this book free from the publisher/author. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

'You're afraid of God not doing things your way. Stop telling God what you want, and let him work his will in you. You might find answers.'

The instant I put down a Susan May Warren book, my heart and head are so full, it's nearly impossible to think of anything else and craft a review worthy of said book. My heart is just so full, totally captivated by these amazing characters and their lives.

Warren begins a new series, Sky King Ranch, with this book. Set in the state of Alaska, her descriptions are so incredibly vivid, I can very nearly feel the cold and see with my mind's eye the beautiful vistas in the scenes of the book. The dog sleds, the plane rescues, the cabins, the grizzlies, all seem so real!

Dodge and Echo captured my heart with their love that began as children. Makes me want to follow them into old age because this is a forever love destined to never dim one bit. This story was totally satisfying in every way and one I will not forget. And it ends on a note that left me gasping. Perfection. Well done!

I won a copy of this book on the Library Thing site. I was not required to leave a review. The opinion here is my own.

If you like an action packed, page turning read, Susan May Warren is your author to check out. This new series is set in the rugged, wild beauty of the Alaskan elements in the shadow of Denali, in small town Copper Mountain. Dodge Kingston is home because his father crashed his plane and needs some help. He doesn't have great memories of his last days home. It has been ten years since Dodge enlisted in the Air Force after a huge fight with his brother Colt over a night of partying with Dodge's girlfriend Echo. He always felt his dad took Colt's side, so he has some bitterness to deal with. Now, Dodge is between careers. After being shot down in Afghanistan, he spent time at Walter Reed, has recovered, ready for a new job, maybe working Air Rescue out of Anchorage but first he has to take care of his father. Dodge and Colt are two parts of a set of triplets with a sister Leake. Ranger is the third part and their mom died of cancer. Echo has her own regrets but when she needs help, Dodge is quick to her rescue. Dodge is filling in for his dad, flying to help people in need of supplies or rescue. The story revolves around how the characters deal with the dangerous elements and wildlife of the harsh Alaskan winter. Dodge and Echo both have issues to deal with if they want to rekindle their relationship, but they also have family problems to deal with. In particular, forgiveness is at the forefront. Forgiveness is for the soul of the one forgiving. I am looking forward to reading the stories of the brothers in the upcoming books. Another winner for SMW.

Great start to a new series!

While Sunrise isn't action packed, pages were turning as I wanted to know more about Echo, Dodge and their fathers. The inclusion of bears into the story line was interesting. Although I hope to never need this bit of advice, it's good to know: Black, fight back and brown get down. Really though, if a bear was coming at me, I have no idea how I'd react and likely wouldn't remember this rhyming tip.

Favorite quote:
"God always answers your prayers. It's just a matter of how."

Look forward to the next in the series.

The author starts her book with a telling of her story with a detachment that is very off putting. Apart from the scenic depictions of the Alaska landscape and the hardship of the people who live there, this book had little to offer me in the beginning. I found I just didn't care for any of the characters, they just didn't arouse any sympathy for them or their story. Then, some of the reasons for the chilly first part of this book were revealed.

Dodge Kingston, retired Air Force helicopter pilot, has a head as hard as the granite mountains of Alaska. He left home at 18 after a family dispute and hasn't been back for 10 years. Now, his father is injured and will lose Sky King Ranch unless Dodge steps in to help. To say this is not what Dodge wants to do would be accurate. His anger is burning as bright now as it was 10 years ago, not only for his family but also for Echo Yassie, the girl who broke his heart.

Echo Yassie is a self-sufficient, Alaskan woman. Her mother left her at the age of 9. Her father suffered a Grizzly attack when she was 14, and the man she loved left her without a word when she was 18. She has had to take care of herself without much support for most of her life. Now Dodge is back and so are all the feelings she has tried to hide from for years.

God has a way of bringing us mortals around to his will, sometimes willingly and sometimes kicking and screaming. He had a lot of work to do with both Dodge and Echo and they are going to need miracle or two helped them to find a missing researcher. But the researcher isn't the only one in danger.

Having wanted to visit Alaska for quite a while this book just made my desire to go there even stronger. The descriptions in Sunrise are absolutely scrumptious, from the extreme cold and deep snow to the danger and protecting yourself from the elements. The wildlife would be amazing to see providing you don't put yourself in any danger doing so. It's a harsh unforgiving area, you can not have a misstep.
So much intrigued me about this book as I was reading. There is lots of adventure, holding your breath wondering what's going to happen next times.
This is Christian fiction that has captivated me and I can't wait to see what's next because we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger here.Wonderful plot and well thought out characters.

More like a 3.5 stars.

It took me several chapters to get into this. Once I got to know the main characters, I started liking it more. The Alaskan landscape was gorgeous to read about. I think the setting was the best part!

For me, the middle of the story was the best part. What tends to happen in suspense stories is the ending gets very drawn out and I find myself losing interest, which is kind of what happened. But in the middle I was super invested and had a good time reading. Probably should give it 3 stars.

The faith was good. The romance was nice. I liked the build up for the next book at the end as well.
I will be continuing this series!

Is it possible to be freezing cold just from reading a book? Yes, yes it is. This book is set in Alaska and man, I am so glad I don't live there! I really don't think I could do it. So. Much. Cold. ❄ AND So. Many. Bears. 😨

I'm happy to be back into a new series by this author. She really knows how to bring the adventure and danger into her books. Her characters are humanly flawed but trying and not giving up which makes them so relatable and endearing. Hurts definitely follow Dodge and Echo- between each other and with other people. Watching them navigate those hurts and learning to forgive themselves and each other was satisfying. I loved the pacing in this book and how it built in tension and purpose. I can see the other stories forming from this one and I'm excited to follow this family through more adventures.

Content: peril, violence, kissing. Christian elements.

Sunrise is book one in the Sky King Ranch series by Susan May Warren. Dodge Kingston had left the airforce due to injuries from a helicopter crash except for a job with Air One in Anchorage when his sister called about their father. Dodge Kingston decided to go home and look after Sky King Ranch. When Echo Yazzie, a childhood friend of Dodge, needed help, he did not hesitate to go and help her. The readers of Sunrise will continue to follow Dodge and Echo to discover what happens.

Sunrise is the first book I have read by Susan May Warren, and I am pleased that I have found her books. I enjoyed reading Sunrise and had no trouble engaging with the plot or characters. I love Susan May Warren's portrayal of her characters and how they interact throughout this book. I like Susan May Warren's description of the settings of Sunrise, which allowed me to think about Alaska and how remote and dangerous it can be for animals and communities. Sunrise is well-written and researched by Susan May Warren.

The readers of Sunrise will understand the importance of having a sky air rescue team (SAR) in remote and dangerous areas in Alaska. Also, the readers of Sunrise will learn about the sport called Mushing.

I recommend this book.

Sunrise was a very fun read for me because I lived in Alaska for close to five years. My husband took me flying for the first time from Merrill Field. We both worked at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, I attended the University of Alaska, Anchorage, and we've had grizzlies on our lawn. On one occasion, we abandoned our flimsy tent for the safety of his 4-Runner, and on another, we discovered we were being followed by a bear while geocaching. These and a host of other memories came flooding back as I drank in Warren's writing.

While I'm not well-read in the contemporary romance genre, I do love suspense and the author delivers a lot of it through various search and rescue missions and man versus nature scenarios. The reunion of Dodge and Echo and the subsequent rekindling of their relationship is nestled perfectly within this high-action, fast-paced story. Echo is often the damsel in distress while Dodge plays the role of a night in shining *aircraft* well.

Speaking of aircraft, this story seems like it was written with aviation geeks in mind. A Piper 14 Super Cruiser, DHC-3 Otter, DHC-2 Beaver, and Bell 429 chopper are all mentioned or flown by characters in the story. I'll bring up my (pilot) husband once again only to say that I asked him to fact-check a few scenes and he gave them the thumbs up. This makes me wonder if the author really did her homework or if she is a pilot herself.

One critique I share with early reviewers is that there is a large cast (small-town high school reunion big). In fact, I read as far as chapter three before I returned to the beginning to start writing down names. In the end, it was unnecessary because the key characters soon broke away from the pack. I also trust Warren as an experienced author to remind readers of any crucial connections as the series progresses.

Nothing says Alaska like bush pilots, bear maulings, miners, and mushers and Sunrise has them in spades. I highly recommend this first book in the Sky King Ranch series.

I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

“This was love. Love showed up. Love stayed. Love sacrificed.”

Such a fantastic adventure filled with adrenaline, tender romance of a second chance love, faith-bolstering wisdom, and redemption and forgiveness after a long drought of anger and bitterness. I could not put the book down once I started it. I’ve never flown a plane/chopper, never worked with dogs, never met a wild grizzly bear, and never even visited Alaska but felt like I’ve done all these and more after being ensconced in Echo and Dodge’s world. I’m suspecting that the series will follow Dodge’s two brothers but I’m also hoping it will expand to include more of the uniquely wonderful secondary characters I’ve met along the way in Copper Mountain.

Echo is a brave but wounded soul, dragged down by regret and darkness even as she makes a living in the Alaskan wilderness as a guide and protector of wild animals. Dodge is a loyal, steadfast Purple Heart earning former Air Force pilot who also has plenty of regrets but realizes his potential and dream and desperate need to forgive as he comes home and faces his past and future head on. I do so enjoy second chance romance and this one will remain one of my favorites. Mixed in with the romance is Echo and Dodge working to rescue hurt and needy people from snowy and stormy mountain, surviving bear attacks and other natural hazards, outsmarting some evil men with fast-paced action and plenty of suspense. And if that’s not enough, there is a mystery woman whose identity has yet to be revealed…

If you’re looking for a great book with unforgettable characters and setting, heart-pounding action and suspense, heart-filling spiritual wisdom, and heart-melting romance, look no further. I’m finishing out 2021 with a bam!

I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Gernes: Crime/Mystery

This was slow to start. I struggled to get through this one. The mystery had merit but two things kept this from 3 stars. One is that this was predictable and it felt overly orchestrated. Not my favorite. Everthing was always falling into the right place at the right time.

And the other thing was the narration of the audio. It suffered from a common problem that many stories suffer from that are set in Alaska. And that is the pronunciation of Alaskan names. Narrators should do their homework. And I guess the author too and maybe the editor because one of the characters was the sheriff. The problem there is that there are no sheriffs in Alaska because there are no counties. So 2 stars.

Oh my goodness. My heart was pounding while reading this book. There was so much to love - romance, wildlife, suspense, danger, family, faith, and so much more. It was such a good read. What a great way to end the year!!

Warren has such a talent for telling stories. Stories of heartbreak, restoration (not just romance but family issues as well), faith, and yes swoony heroes. There are several quotes that you could take from this book and apply them to everyday life. And they are woven into the storyline so perfectly, effortlessly, and beautifully. One in fact that made me stop in my tracks:

“But faith changes things. It gives you perspective. It allows you to breathe through the grief. And, if you let go of needing reasons to let God work his will through you, you might even see joy on this side of heaven.”

I mean talk about pricking my heart! I literally had to pause while reading this, and reread it about five times before sitting there to reflect on it. Breathtaking. Absolutely breathtaking.

And the romance. My goodness Warren writes the best male characters. Flawed, yes fierce, protective, loyal and just…..cue the heart eyes. Dodge had his own things to overcome for sure, but what person doesn’t? And I love how warden took him and Echo through their issues. She took her time with them. Didn’t rush things and make it seem unrealistic. It’s almost as if the characters worked it out for themselves, and Warren was simply retelling their story.

I highly recommend reading this new series. And that ending!! My goodness I’m already counting down the days for book two to come out. Get ready for a wild ride folks. Grab a drink, find a few hours of time, and get reading. Warren will have you transported to the wild terrain of Alaska and you won’t want to leave.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love the way Susan May Warren immerses her readers in her settings. I've never been to Alaska and know very little about it, but it was fascinating to learn about the life and culture. Susan writes deep POV so well, making the characters with all their challenges and growth feel personal.
I haven't read the author's other books set in Alaska so now I want to read them as I assume most of the secondary characters here have had their own books, per usual for her. You don't need to have read them first, it just makes you intrigued to know their stories. :)
I was kept turning pages, more for the romance than the suspense. From the very first page I was hooked, and from the first scene that the hero and heroine shared the page, I felt the fireworks between them.
I just really liked this book, from the characters to the way the story unfolded to the secondary characters (Dodge's dad!!) to the descriptions to the message.

I received a copy of Sunrise from the publisher through Netgalley, but I was not required to leave a positive review and all opinions are my own.

Susan May Warren is quickly becoming my favorite adventure/suspense author. Her characters seem so real, and they have so much depth!
I couldn't put this book down. Grizzlies, poachers, and frigid storms all contributed to the non-stop action that kept my heart thumping.
I loved the theme of forgiveness that brought the whole story full circle. Some of the conversations that the characters have with each other were touching.

When SMW writes the leading guy's point of view, she always makes it seem like you're really in that guy's head. She uses a shorter, choppier thought process that gives so many layers to how the guy is thinking. Dodge especially has a lot of thinking he's doing. He's trying to figure out if he can forgive his dad, himself, his only love, and his brothers.
Echo is awesome. She possesses a ton of survival homesteader skills. I liked reading about her and her mushing team. She seems realistic. She was tough, but she also had palpable moments of fear. She even screamed a bit. Sometimes tough girls in books don't scream when I think they should. 😆

There's a small plot twist a decent way into the story that I didn't see coming, and the ending is a brutal cliff hanger. I can't wait for the next book! There's so much that I still need to know!

I like how the boys are named after cars:
Dodge, Colt, and Ranger.

I'm excited to begin a new series full of adventure from Susan May Warren! The setting of Alaska is epic, with extreme weather and grizzly bears the norm. The personalities of the characters are vivid, and I was quickly drawn into their world. Dodge and Echo have a difficult history of childhood friendship and young romance gone horribly awry, and it was gratifying to see them begin to heal and forgive their unseen hurts. The angst of their relationship gives way to powerful feelings that are only strengthened through their trials and I loved the way they supported each other as much as their chemistry. They both have complex family dynamics as well that come into play, and the theme of seeking and following God's will helps Echo, Dodge, and their parents envision a new future full of hope. The author skillfully balances the personal drama with dangerous rescues and nail-biting flights that kept me enthralled late into the night, not able to put the book down. Highly recommend!

Love books that pit man against nature? Want characters with a rich background and conflict that makes them three dimensional and real? Then you will love Susan May Warren's latest novel sunrise. Set in Alaska, I felt like I was living there with the characters, and I deeply wanted Echo and Dodge to find their way back to each other even as all the odds were against them. A satsifying read.

I'm trying to collect my thoughts on this whole story! The author had my emotions so messed up they didn't know if they were up or down. I'm still kind of a hot mess with the ending. A) a cliffhanger? really?! (I'm not okay) B) the start of book 2 has me VERY impatient. There is a LOT I need to know... NOW! lol

Ok, let's talk about Sunrise though. Dodge was mad, I was mad. Dodge was hurt, I was hurt. I mean, that's just how SMW makes a reader feel. You KNOW how hurt he's been by the people in his life. We don't know why initially, but all of the layers begin to peel back and we learn the "why" to all of them. I'll admit, I could completely understand why Dodge had no desire to be back Sky King Ranch.

Then there's Echo, and after learning her story I totally understood her hurt. And, whew, that was a lot. I think people in general go through a lot in life, but man, if you live in Alaska like theses characters do, they're like a whole other level! This definitely includes Echo.

There is a LOT going on in this story. A lot of it was relational for the main characters... with each of their parents and with each other. I appreciated how Dodge's dad made sure to direct him to God in regards to forgiveness and guidance. That was a thread throughout the entire story. Barry Kingston wasn't a perfect parent and I think a lot of us can relate to that. His heart is in the right place and his legacy of faith is one that makes an impact.

Of course, there are bears and moose, but mostly bears. Lots of bears. Also, one super creepy dude who is easy to dislike from the get-go!

Like I said at the start, there's a cliffhanger that has my mind whirling. The snippet of book two that we get doesn't deal with the cliffhanger, so now there are actually TWO cliffhangers! I'm not okay. HA!

*I received this book for review. This is my personal opinion.

Set in Alaska, Dodge Kingston has returned to Sky King Ranch after leaving the military as a pilot to decide what he wants to do with his life. He left 10 years earlier after a fight with his brother, one of the three triplets, and his marriage proposal to Echo Yazzie being rejected. He also felt that his father never loved him. He and Echo get involved with a missing friend, poachers, and both trying to decide what's next in their life. Will this bring them closer together or make them realize they aren't meant to be?

Filled with beautiful descriptions of the land, lifestyle, and animals of Alaska, this story had a touch of romance, a hint of suspense, and lots of faith building. Having traveled to Alaska once, it gave me a better understanding of the rugged lifestyle that these full time residents dealt with. I loved Echo and Dodge and enjoyed watching them learn that the hurts of the past don't have to affect the present and future. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and learning more about another of the disappearing Kingston triplets.

Susan May Warren is an author who never disappoints. And this new series is no exception.
The Sky King Ranch and the Alaskan lifestyle make this a fascinating read. And the suspense is top notch too. Susan always has strong women in her stories but I think Echo Yazzie may be one of her very strongest. Living in Alaska is no easy life and Echo is no average woman. And Dodge is one of the most selfless of her heroes. This is a second chance romance with plenty of action and family. I am already fascinated with these characters so am anxiously awaiting the rest of this series.
The one thing I have always admired about Susan's books is that she includes wonderful lessons in faith without being preachy. And I always find myself writing down quotes from her books so that I may go back to them.
I recommend this book highly.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to real this book. The opinions are entirely my own.

"It's love breaking through."

"Sunrise" is many things. It's a really good book by a beloved author of numerous titles, it's also a dare to forgive, even when you understandably don't want to, it's most certainly a reminder that God's plans are often misunderstood just before His providence dawns crystal clear; perhaps best of all, it is a nudge to bask in the sunrise that illuminates even the darkest of skies, "love breaking through".

Obviously, these life lessons are clothed in flesh and blood. Meet Dodge Kingston, former Air Force hero with uncertain plans, coming back to a place he never expected to return; home. And Echo Yazzie, who stayed at home to homestead with her father while serving as a research guide in the wide open spaces near Anchorage, Alaska. She never expected to see Dodge Kingston again . . . or maybe somewhere deep down inside, a flame of hope remained that their paths might cross once again. And they did. Boy, did they ever.

Enjoy this reunion romance with all of its ups and downs, high points and pitfalls, promises and uncertainties. There's danger around just about every corner, on both land and sky, but the landing . . . . the landing is one that was always meant to be, for "what if we judged God by what didn't happen to us?".

I received a copy of this book from the Baker Publishing Group through Interviews and Reviews. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.

I’ve been looking forward to this series since I heard Susie discuss it in a FB live video. A series set in Alaska about the Kingston triplets, Dodge, Ranger and Colt? Sign me up!

“I’m not calling you a coward. But you are afraid. You’re afraid of God not doing things your way. Of being helpless, and of the worst happening. You always have to have a plan because you’re terrified of making a mistake that could screw up your life.”

Susan May creates such real, relatable characters. I love the way she makes me care for them, cheer them on, understand their struggles.

Echo and Dodge were fantastic characters! I was hooked from chapter one and loved every second I was immersed in their world, history and relationship. I adored Dodge’s singularly focused pursuit of Echo from such a young age. He knew what he wanted and he was whole-heartedly devoted to her. Echo was such a great mix of strong, but tender-hearted. I loved her loyalty, her never-wavering love of Dodge even through the rough spots of their past. My heart broke over the storyline involving her mom. It made me admire her as a character even more. She was a fun one to get to know.

Talk about being immersed in their world! I have yet to cross Alaska off my list of places I’ve visited, but it has always fascinated me. Reading Sunrise, I felt like I was there. This author never fails to create an immersive experience for me as a reader. I feel like I’m right there in the middle of the action.

Sunrise left me happy, but anxious to continue with book two, Sunburst. I mean... that teaser though!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Get ready to meet the handsome Kingston brothers in Susan May Warren’s new Sky King Ranch series. These triplets are the younger brothers of Larke Kingston, who longtime readers may remember from the Summer of the Burning Sky series. This is the perfect time for anyone who has never read any of Susan May Warren’s books to jump right in with book one of this new series. Sunrise ends with unanswered questions that leave the reader eagerly anticipating book two of the series (Sunburst).

Everything I love about Susan May Warren’s books is evident in Sunrise…a strong, handsome hero with a military background, fast-paced action filled with danger, family drama, and a swoony romance. The publisher classifies it as contemporary romance, but it is so much more than your typical contemporary romance. Sunrise made my top 10 list of 2021 (since I was blessed with the opportunity to read an advanced copy prior to its release).

As readers follow the Kingston triplets throughout the series, it will be fun to see who they pick as their favorite Kingston brother. Sunrise is highly recommended for readers of action filled contemporary romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

Susan May Warren has a great talent for writing adventure while providing this reader with characters I totally invest in - characters who is not perfect, made mistakes, but learn from that and grows closer to God during that journey. And on top of that, this author keeps me on the edge of my seat trying to see how fast I can see and guess what is going on.

And just when I thought I had everything under control, the author throws in a new POV twist.

"Forgiveness isn't for the person you're forgiving, Echo. It's for yourself. It's what you do to be set free."

I loved this story. From Dodge and Echo (how unique is that name) who had to deal with past hurts and truly forgive to move forward, to huskies and grizzlies and danger! I was kept up late flipping my kindle.

"This was love. Love showed up. Love stayed. Love sacrificed."

Warning: For readers who do not like cliffhangers, this story did end in one, thought that just makes me excited for the rest of the series. I'm secretly hoping certain CIA agents from a different series will pop up later in this series...

Fans of Susan May Warren and Romantic Suspense - pick up this book. You will feel like you are right there in Alaska!

Sunrise by Susan May Warren travels to Alaska for a bear adventure through the wilderness. With the start of Warren's Montana Rescue series, she loves to travel to outlanding destinations and allow her heroines and heroes to fight the elements mixed with their fight for their hearts. In Sunrise, readers are introduced to Dodge, the oldest of the triplets born under the Sky Range Ranch. Readers also are introduced to Echo, his love who denied him his happily-ever-after. The plot definitely has plenty of action through the wilderness with the snow and bears fighting for the overwhelming plot twist. I had no problem flipping through the pages of the story, wanting more. The romance leaps forward with hints of what happened in the past. Understanding sparks through the pages of the story. Warren does wonderful job at crafting a wilderness that I wanted to travel to and venture around. Overall, Sunrise by Susan May Warren is wonderful story that takes place in Alaska and allows readers to fully engage in the story. I can't wait to read more stories in this series.

Sunrise
by Susan May Warren
Book 1 in the Sky King Ranch series
Rating: 4.5/5

As a huge fan of SMW, I was excited to start reading the first book in her new series! But first, can we talk about that amazing cover? It's absolutely gorgeous and I need to visit Alaska some day. As for this new series, the setting is beautiful and I already love all the quirky characters. The details seem to have been thoroughly researched regarding dogsledding and piloting small aircraft. I definitely read this story quickly since it held my attention till the end.

"She was the only woman he would ever love. And she’d taken that from him, leaving only darkness behind."

Dodge Kingston and Echo Yazzie were a such fun couple to get to know and root for. Their story had so many layers and so much history. Dodge's relationships with his father and brothers was a focal point because I believe the other books are about the other two brothers. His sister was also a fun character to encounter. I found their chemistry to be believable and loved their development. Like she always does, the author wove a beautiful story about faith and love and forgiveness into the characters' journey.

"Echo was softness and home and everything he’d longed for since the day he’d stupidly walked away from her."

Highly recommend if you enjoy adrenaline-pumping adventure with swoonworthy heroes and daring suspense over an Alaskan sky.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Sunrise is the first book in Susan May Warren's new series, Sky King Ranch, and a fantastic read. When I first started reading the book I felt like I had missed a story on certain characters that were introduced and, after doing a little searching, I figured out that Larke Kingston and Riley McCord had indeed had their own book - Some Like It Hot. I'm happy to say that the author did a good job filling in details, so it didn't bother me too much not having read that book. ;)

I don't know how to describe Sunrise. In some ways it was a slower read for me in the beginning, and yet it wasn't a slow read. Once I got familiar with the characters and setting, I grew to love it and couldn't read fast enough!

I loved the characters. Dodge and Echo were such complex characters and I enjoyed seeing them work through struggles and past hurts. The romance was definitely a good one and I loved the ending...even the cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book!

All in all, I loved Sunrise and definitely recommend it.

This story was a wild ride! Set in Alaska, Susan May Warren has written an action packed story filled with dog sleds, bears, cabins, wildlife and adventure!

This is about Pilot Dodge Kingston and his childhood best friend and former girlfriend, Echo Yazzie, a true Alaskan - a homesteader, dogsledder and research guide. One of Echo's fellow researchers goes missing and Echo sets out to find her, despite a blizzard, a grizzly bear haunting the woods and the frigid cold temperatures. Dodge and Echo work together to try and find her friend Peyton and the rest takes off from there. It's been 10 years since Dodge was in town and they each have to deal with the details from their past relationship - can they rekindle their love for each other?

This was so intense! It says it's a contemporary romance but there is so much more than that here! We have suspense and adventure! This is a clean romance and the characters have gone through a lot in their personal lives. There are some Christian faith elements, mentions of God and his plan, how God is our protector and we don't always know how God is protecting us in certain situations, plus so much more, especially in the last half of the book. I also love a good Alaska setting story and the details the author depicted really transport you there.

I think the characters were connected well - the narration isn't the best so I recommend physically reading on eBook or physical copy.

Overall, 4 stars. I struggled with some of the storylines and keeping up with so many characters and twists and turns, but overall enjoyed the story and plan to continue on!
