I really don't know what to say that I haven't already said in the past few volumes. I was looking forward to meeting the Dad, yet it just fell short. Actually, this whole volume fell short. I liked that Masahiro and Kousuke finally told Kousuke's parents. I definitely feel like that needed to be said way earlier but I am glad it's out in the open now.
Another volume of Masahiro being adorably awkward. 💛
Living together with Kousuke isn't working for him. He isn't used to being left alone for hours at a time with nothing to do. He quickly realizes that he'd rather live with Kousuke's family and Kousuke, being the wonderful boyfriend that he is, agrees. The only problem is that his parents doesn't know he's dating a 16 year old boy who happens to be his student. 😬
Kousuke travels to Tokyo with his mother to pick up his father. While there he lets them know about his relationship with Masahiro and his plan to have him move in with them. His father is shocked but his mother isn't surprised.
It was nice seeing Kousuke interact with his father and I'm happy that Masahiro will be moving in with him. The events of the main story took up about 70% of the manga and the remaining 30% were bonus stories. I was happy with what I got but I'm greedy and want more. 🤣 There was nothing on Kensuke and Hasekura so they'll most likely be in volume 12. 4 stars because Kousuke delivered for his "wife."

This volume was an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed, cried, gasped and cheered. Macau I so has got to be one of the sweetest most humble fictional characters I have ever happened upon. From being an abandoned punk just looking for a place to fit in and call his own and Cousins being a vigilante strolling the streets of Japan trying to just feel and find what's missing. These two have truly found a home with on each other. This is hands down one of my favorite manga series and I have and will continue to read each volume over and over again. Memeco, really knows how to tell a story of love, family and friendship and Hitirojime My Hero is all of that and more. Please hype it so we get even more volumes and more seasons for the anime
I don’t know how, but the chapters Are finally going in a more linear narrative. It’s so nice. The story makes me so happy and it’s a good break from some of the other things I’ve been reading. Masahiro and Kousuke are just the best.
This series has the weirdest tone shifts. It's hard to decide how I feel about it; in some ways, it's definitely one of my favorite BL series, because I love the characters so much, I'm fully enjoying the ongoing story, and I'm happy and surprised that the manga is adding layers to the anime that I've adored for so long. But it just randomly veers off the tracks when the most interesting parts are happening?
So, this volume, I was loving. I took a break to run a stressful errand, figuring the rest of the chapters would be a great reward once I was back. But it really didn't go the directions I was expecting.
There's the Setagawa and Kousuke living together storyline, with the two of them trying to balance their happiness being together with the complications of living on their own, with Kousuke spending too much time at work and Setagawa not actually wanting that much space all to himself. He thrives in busy, chaotic environments where he can be needed and valued by a lot of different people (and a variety of animals).
When the Ohshiba mom tells Setagawa that she's taking Kousuke to Tokyo to retrieve Ohshiba dad and have an important conversation, it seems like things are finally going to reach some super important transition points. I loved this. Everyone in the group, even the more oblivious guys, recognize that Miho targeting Setagawa as someone who needs to be told about Kousuke-centered plans means that she knows about their relationship.
I love love LOVED the two-pager mini flashback of Miho humming happily to herself in the garden, then looking inside the house and realizing that Setagawa has been humming too, with this blissful, massively in love expression on his face as he looks at Kousuke, napping on the couch. It's so beautiful, with so little actual narration. I haven't mentioned it before, but I love Memeco's art; it's energetic, sometimes lovely, and always so emotionally expressive.
And the scene with Miho and Kousuke driving to Tokyo was great, too, with Kousuke grumbling internally over how she always manages to drag things out of him by acting like she doesn't know what's going on, but directs questions in exactly the right way to let him know that she already knows and just wants him to tell her himself.
Except. For some reason, it's actually a surprise to her? She didn't know he was dating and living with Setagawa? It was just a setup to get Kousuke to talk to his dad about their issues, which, yeah. That was important, too, and I also knew that was coming, but it makes the other scenes...confusing. Why did she tell Setagawa about Tokyo? Why single him out as Kousuke's other half?
It wasn't entirely a surprise to her, once she got over the initial shock; she was certainly able to slot pieces together, and she'd had some perhaps unspoken suspicions about their connection. But it felt like strange storytelling with some red herrings that weren't really fair to the readers.
And then...we just leave it there. Ohshiba dad gets whisked away again by his work, Miho stays with him, and Kousuke and Setagawa head back home alone, where they cancel their apartment contract and move into Kousuke's room.
It's...anti-climactic. After all that?
It was major for Setagawa to express his need to be folded into the Ohshiba family as a whole, and for Kousuke's parents to accept that. And it happened, but then...we just moved on. To some weird little snippet about Onda being Hasekura's and Ayaka's dad's political secretary who dresses up as his ex-wife for some sort of BDSM play.
Yeah. That happened.
It's disjointed and jarring and I feel a little bit cheated. I also have no idea if Ohshiba dad actually knows that Setagawa is a guy, since he was incognito in a dress and a wig, but...maybe the dad isn't even going to be in the picture very much from this point on, still? I'd thought he was actually moving back home for a bit and would be a part of their lives, but I get the sense that Miho will come back from Tokyo without him, as he flies off to work on another factory somewhere else in the world.
I don't know. I do love this story, but I wish it was holding a bit more actual structure so the big emotional climaxes could hold their weight.
It’s been a while since I read a manga. Think I have lost the flow in this series a bit but was too lazy/tired to read over the other volumes.
Even so it was a good read. Same daftness, misunderstandings and humour as usual. I’m glad the story finally progress into the parents getting involved. Kinda... I did love the scene with the mums face... I love how the humour is portrayed through the illustrations still. It’s one of the many things I love about this mangaka’s work.
I seriously keep forgetting how young Masahiro is though. It shouldn’t still randomly surprise me at volume 11 but it does.
But yeah, loving the art still, was a fun read, nothing amazing, just a nice read. Which is exactly what I needed right now.
This wasn't my favorite one in the series, but I still enjoyed it. I felt that when we finally met the dad, there would be something more, but it was a little...boring. There wasn't anything really going on with the dad, he felt really useless as a character. But it doesn't matter because I love them as a couple! I am glad that their relationship is starting to settle down and there isn't any more miscommunication and even though Masahiro is still insecure and all that, he's becoming more confident and happier within his relationship with Kousuke. Cute as always and I can't wait for the next installment!
For us finally getting to meet the dad it was very lack luster. Then the overall story in general for this volume felt like it fell short. It was amusing to see that the mom was totally caught off guard by the sudden announcement but I also kind of saw that coming. Still a good installment to the series and I can’t wait to see how things progress from here.
This series for me is ok, not great but not bad either. A 2.5-3 stars out of 5. I don't feel anything for any of the characters and a lot of the plot points seem a bit contrived and there are too many instances where something wouldn't even be an issue if the characters involved just talked to each other.
I like this tankobon. It’s less hot and sexual compared to the previous ones, but sweeter and more complicated, also fielding the family dynamics and the decisions to be made for the future of the couple. The other characters here had very little space.
Kousuke's parents finally find out what's going on, and they're totally fine with Kousuke and Masahiro being together. In a way, I kind of wish there was a little bit of drama from it, but they were fine 🤷♀️
I have been loving this series so much, but I just feel like it's dragging on and rehashing a lot of the same things—Masahiro not communicating, Kousuke not communicating, Hasekura and Ken's relationship.... The last volumes have just all felt the same.
