Final Days: The Complete Series by Jasper T. Scott and Nathan Hystad
Book 1.) 5/5 stars. The 2029 and climate change is in the final gasp. Earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and volcanic activity everywhere! Mass chaos. We follow a retired Marine and a hacker. The Marine, Andrew, his daughter goes missing alone with hundreds of other people. An FBI agent is investigating this cases. She and Andrew meet and Roland. What they find out about the missing persons is amazing.
Book 2.) 5/5 The people meet the billionaire Hound but where they are going seems to be a bit too secretive. A person goes missing. Lots of suspense and intrigue going on. Can't say more without given away spoilers.
Book 3.) 4/5 This is not what everyone expected. Where is Hound now? Lots of secrets are exposed now! Creatures are appearing, some good and some not so good! A radical religious group takes over and drugs and kills people. Help comes from unexpected sources. Good series!
This is a great sci-fi with plenty of action, adventure, creatures, suspense, and intrigue for the sci-fi fan! Enjoyed it immensely.
This is a very well written story that kept me reading and guessing to the end. The story begins with many questions as people begin to disappear and natural disasters abound as we follow a few key people who end up searching for the truth. I was hooked from the beginning and had to keep reading to see how it all comes together and what was really going on and who was pulling the strings. Just full of mystery, suspense and action as the facts are laid out and answers found. Loved it. Kept me guessing to the end.
There is a plethora of ribbons of subtext carried along with the primary story. Certainly as complex as life itself is, the series is also easy to read and become immersed in. I loved every page!
Decent story, but a stretch for my sense of belief at times.
Overall, I'd have to give this trilogy a weak 3 stars. The main plot line was pretty good but many of the details didn't make a lot of sense to me, or were never really explained.
SPOILER ALERT******************** Why did the author's have one of the characters lie about where they were going? With so many scientifically minded people included in the Colony, how was it expected to keep up the lie that they were going to Proxima when nothing matched what is known about Earth's nearest solar neighbor? END SPOILER****************
Most, if not all of the characters were severely broken, emotionally. That in itself isn't a problem but when it is to the point where all logic and reason goes out the window, it makes it hard for me become invested in the character's well-being. I liked the characters by the end of the last book. I was even happy for them so I guess there was character growth after all, but it took a hell of a long time for it to happen for some of them.
I guess it boils down to this. I liked this trilogy enough to finish it but it is not likely to be one I re-read. I do recommend it, but only because I recognize that my experience is likely to be different than that of other readers. It isn't a badly written series, but being a first read from authors whose work is held in high regard, I guess I expected more.
As is my custom when leaving a less than stellar review, I will say this: Those who cannot do, criticize those who can.

This was a good series, not great, but pretty good. I understand that the characters are written with flaws, but sometimes it's a little too much. I never wanted children, so the drama that they can cause is something that I am glad that I have never experienced. The one thing that is a recurring issue in any kind of writing, whether it's in books or movies, is the stupid teenager or female character. Everyone knows that in any kind of horror movie, the guy says 'Stay here' and the teenager or female character will go after the guy. This usually ends up getting the guy, or the teenager/female character, or both of them in trouble or killed. This is one of the main reasons I don't watch horror movies. I don't waste my time or money on horror movies. Anyway, because these authors put these characters in their books, this is what happens a lot, that's okay, but not if it is a constantly recurring theme. What you have is, different characters, different settings, but the same situations. Child or teenager, doing something stupid and it's daddy to the rescue. Other than that, the story was unique and different. The premise is very interesting. The reason for the story was a little bit of a surprise for some people, intelligent people may have caught the extremely brief hint that was embedded into the text. It is very subtle and it's not elaborated on. There is some intrigue early on that sets the stage for future events. There is plenty of action and drama to keep the reader engaged. The ending is very satisfying and villains get their due.
Great story, engrossing, exciting, and convincing!
As I started this series, I wasn't sure if it would be far-out-unbelievable, or realistic and convincing. It was not only convincing, but I could easily see it happening in the not-too-distant future.
I loved the characters. Some were annoying (as real people often are), some were leaders, some were followers, some were there to help, some were their for their own gain, just as it is in real life. I think that's what helped to sell the story.
It is science fiction, but when written so skillfully, with believable characters and not-too-far out scenarios, it was successful in keeping me up way past the time I should have been catching some z's, night after night, but is one of those stories you cannot help but say to yourself, "just one more chapter." Of course, it's never just one more, because something will happen that grabs you, and you just have to see what happens next.
This three book set is the complete Final Days series. Earth is in it's death throes as earthquakes, fires, tsunamis, volcano eruptions, reactor meltdowns, and rioting increase. The west coast is evacuated inland, but people are missing, and FBI agent Kendra, is unwilling to let it go. As she follows a trail to a potential kidnapper, she meets Andrew, a former Marine with a missing 14 year old daughter. The trail continues to a charismatic billionaire, Hound, who they learn has been collecting people with the brains and skills to start over. But why, and what is his end game? Welcome to the twilight zone. This series gets 3.5 stars.
This was a plot hat kept my interest to the end. The story starts with people disappearing, not enough to rouse the authorities, natural disasters that all seem natural, though so many together. A mysterious billionaire building a space ship under the radar to save earths brightest and best, I did spot some poor feedback of how a space ship that big could not be built and the gent said he never finished the book, if he had he would have (without spoiling your reading of the story) discovered it was not built with just earth technology. I enjoyed the books, a good read, some bits made me think its a 4.5 stares, I was not going to give a 4 so 5 it is.
Two of my favourite authors, so I was looking forward to reading this.
So it was okay, started off well, but just kind of run out of steam and some bits didn't make a lot of sense, particularly towards the end of the third book with how they all escaped, defeated the boss and made new friends with a super powerful race who saved them and actually had guns that could destroy all the alien tech and robots. Also the character development was a bit poor in my opinion I just didn't really like them, the main character was just annoying throughout most of it.
However despite that its not terrible and it's worth a read though if you are looking for another sci-fi trilogy.

I really enjoyed the series. I read all three books in a row. Kept interested throughout all of it. I would’ve given it five stars except that I thought a few parts were particularly unbelievable such as shooting underwater. Maybe I’m just not up on the latest weapons but I don’t think we have guns that shoot underwater yet. That, however, is an extremely minor point and did not take away from the overall enjoyment of the novels.
This trilogy is a thrilling new twist on the usual end of the world plots. I really couldn’t see how it could have a good ending, but this author is a master at keeping up the suspense before the entirely unexpected and very satisfying ending. I highly recommend this author to anyone who likes good space adventure.
A very interesting, action packed story with well defined characters who all played an active part. I think Jasper and Nathan took a lot of directors licence to make the story flow well, but I'll accept that in the interest of a first rate read. Well done, let the good times roll. Gramps
Definitely worth a read. Engaged with the characters for the most part and the story definitely keeps moving and is highly imaginative . But here’s the thing, the ending was blah. A great story with so much left unanswered and with an almost unrealistic sickly sweet conclusion.
Review of Final Days: No real science in this science fiction story(ies)
It’s an ok fictional book series. Plot was good, but over three books it dragged too much for me. Pros included very few grammatical or spelling errors. Cons included it was simplistic and written at a 16 year old level.
Another thrilling first contact - adventure from Hystad and Scott!
Great thrilling alien adventure! 3 stars as to the lack of celebrities and politicians within the colony lol. Nathan Hystad is now required reading for me after I finished The Bridge Sequence and Final Days this year. I should be starting The Event next year!
Ridiculous religious figure, entire character weak & unbelievable - would never have happened. Other characters wooden & one dimensional, lacking depth & humanity. Aliens just plain silly. Almost a complete waste of time other than as a lesson on how "not" to...
Good story told over three books, would be better if only one book, author was obviously trying to extend the story with meaningless detail and unrelated action but…hey, maybe he sold three books. That said it was worth the $1.99 I paid but probably not worth much more.
You seriously need to get the final days complete series, I guarantee you will love them! At first I wasn't sure whether I was going to like this genre of books, but I love the characters that the writers created. All of them are great characters, but I had a soft spot for Rollie. I love the storyline and I will definitely get more books by these writers
I found this to be a good read, a little bit twee in respect of them escaping annihilation on so many occasions, right at the last minute!!. The alien mastermind(s) have been left unresolved as to their ultimate aim.....so watch this space??? Well written with very little typos, so that's a win, win In my estimate.
This book had it all: The end of days, space travel, distant worlds aliens and all tied up in a nice bow. Nothing particular new or fantastically original but filed with fleshed out characters and paced well to keep your attention engaged.
An apocalyptic story of the end of the human experience on Earth and an unusual, mysterious beginning on a new world. Lots of twists an turns in the storyline and a cast of characters demonstrating the all too familiar problems of mankind.
Masterfully brilliant! I didn't want it to end. Believable characters, good and bad. The story had more levels to it than any other sci fi I have read. I read the 3 books in less than 2 days. Un-put-downable!
This was one that I found hard to put down. The characters were very well developed to the point of loving them and hating them. You just can’t go wrong with this series if you love space fy!
Wow, what a journey, great likeable characters and bad villains. Several twist and turns made for an interesting read. Thanks guys, would love a follow up later to see what the future brings.
Despite all the drama and trauma everything turns out well. The biggest irk for me was the use of word nail when discussing carpentry in the final chapters. Peg would have been a more appropriate example of ecological sustainability for such new beginnings.
All 3 books were good! Original storyline. Character development was great. Robots, aliens and humans!! So glad this book brought closure to so much and I loved the ride to get there!
It’s a good yarn with some interesting characters, I never really broke through to caring but I did want to know what happens in the end. It’s a firm 3 from me.
Drips of times to come. The discovery of another planet like earth is a real possibility. Mr J T Scott did a fine job in holding your interest at all times.
This book had me hooked from the beginning! The storyline was absolutely fantastic! The action was believable and heart stopping! The characters were so highly fascinating! Can't wait until the next book!
